Butter Half Cakes

Butter Half Cakes made the perfect galaxy cake for our Star Wars party. It was stunning, delicious, and so easy to order. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

We used Butter Half for our elopement cake. The cake was not only so so cute but so delicious!!! It was clearly made with love. Would absolutely get a cake from Butter Half again.

Butter Half cakes is the best - I’ve used her (Nicole) for all my daughters birthday cakes - she is collaborative, responsive and most if all an incredible baker!

I stopped by the microbakery stand on a Saturday morning. It's basically a cake vending machine in the yard of a private residence (presumably the bakery owner's). You purchase slices by scanning a QR code and paying on your phone, which causes the door to automatically unlock, allowing you to retrieve your slices. It relies on an honor system, trusting that you won't take more than you purchased. The cake is heavenly. It's difficult to recommend a favorite flavor given that they rotate weekly, but I'm confident that anything you choose will be delicious. The cake is perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and paired with smooth, light frosting that enhances without overpowering. That being said, the slices aren't that big and they go for 12 bucks a pop. Whether that's worth it to you depends on how much you value really good cake. I wish the pickup process was a little easier. I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and there were already a few people lined up. Since the slices seem to sell out every day, I didn't have much of a choice. It would be really nice to be able to pre-order slices and just pick them up at a set time, guaranteeing that they'll be available. Though, given the operation's popularity, there's no real reason for the owner to change it up at this point. In summation, excellent cake, if a bit expensive, and an inconvenient pickup process, but still an overall positive experience.

Nicole baked an amazing two-tiered chocolate cake with vanilla frosting for our 50 person June 2024 wedding. It was so delicious that many guests had second helpings! I appreciate that it was moist and rich (dry wedding cake is my pet peeve). We would 100% recommend Butter Half Cakes for affordable wedding cakes in Seattle.

Our family have had Butter Half Cakes for EVERY birthday for years now! Not only are the cakes amazing, they can be made gluten free and are JUST AS GOOD! 10/10 would recommend!

Butter Half Cakes is sweeping the Seattle foodie scene by storm with the tantilizing proposition of a "cake vending machine" that is far more than what you'd expect your first time hearing it. The setup is much more impressive than a mere 'vending machine' as she's created an automated portable fridge of cake slices that is as simple as scanning a qr code, paying for your slices, and seeing the 'locked' sign lights turn off letting you know you can open the fridge and grab your slices. As for the cakes themselves I tried the 3 offering that weekend: confetti with vanilla buttercream, almond spoonge with rhubarb orange zest compote and a chocolate cake. Make sure you let them warm up for at least 2 hours to room temperature to prevent the coarse dry texture you get with cake that is too cold. The confetti cake was the driest but still had a good balance of flavor and sweetness for something that is usually a very sweetened cake flavor. The fancy almond sponge rhubarb orange cake was my favorite, maybe it being gluten free helped it stand out from the pack and have a moister flavor as gluten-free usually means an oilier flavor. All of them were good, not too sweet or heavy in the grand scheme of American cakes but a bit too dry. I'd probably give the cakes a 3 but had to add a star just for the sheer brilliance of the 'vending machine' and how it's hit the zeitgeist. Looking forward to coming back and seeing how things go round 2 sometime!
