Technically, the butterbeer cart doesn't exist in the Harry Potter books or movies, but I shouldn't complain because the greater accessibility to butterbeers around the park, the better. The line moves very quickly, both here and at the snowman cart, which also sells butterbeer, by the other entrance to Hogsmeade. These carts offer two versions of butterbeer: cold and frozen. The hot version is sold at The Three Broomsticks, Hog's Head, and The Leaky Cauldron.
Described as "a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch", the frozen butterbeer has just the right amount of sweetness, and tasted like a delicious butterscotch slushy topped with a creamy, frothy butterscotch head. As everyone else has also described, the cold version is like a butterscotch-flavored, carbonated cream soda. Both are delicious, so give each a try. You simply can't go to the WWOHP without purchasing a butterbeer. The Starbucks secret menu's version just doesn't compare!
The plastic butterbeer mug is around $9, and a butterbeer is $4 or $5 for cold or frozen, respectively. The plastic mug allows you to get refills on fountain sodas for $0.99 throughout both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Plus, it makes a great, relatively inexpensive, souvenir.
