The 38 Essential Manila Restaurants

"With the premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race Philippines in 2022, the Manila drag scene has never been more exciting. Online specialty bakery-turned-weekend cafe Butterboy regularly holds Saturday drag brunches and meriendrag (a play on merienda, or snack time): daytime drag performances with set meals of pastries and sandwiches. The place is owned by Hilder Demeterio and partner Jayson So, who describe themselves as “not pastry chefs, just pastry gays.” You can preorder Butterboy for delivery Tuesday through Sunday (there’s no dine-in service on weekdays), walk in from 8 a.m. to noon on weekends, and reserve for events on the website." - Toni Potenciano

Sinfully good! Hindi tinipid ang lasa, and the pricing is fair compared to other bake shops. I discovered them through Pickup Coffee years ago and got addicted to their pain au chocolat. Last month, I finally got to try more of their pastries at a Burgos Circle pop-up and I was pleasantly surprised by the fair pricing. I bought a box 6 right away. Service could be better, though. This review is long overdue, but I just really appreciate how consistent they are. Keep it up!

We were lucky enough to be close to the QC branch. Our hotel was just a few minutes walk away so we had to try and check. The staff were nice enough to entertain us even though they were busy preparing for the drag show. Croissants did not disappoint! Really good coffee as well. What a nice spot for weekend brunch!

We’ve been wanting to have their famous croissant since last year and finally managed to visit their QC branch! I say and no doubt, best for its value croissant that I’ve ever tasted. For the place, nothing special plus parking is really a hassle. Their staffs are really nice. Although a suggestion to consumer if you’re going to the QC branch to double check the computation since from my observation, they just do manual computation and they don’t issue receipt. Haven’t had problems about it, but just a note. Suggestion to Butteryboy, please have a kiosk in QC (I vote for SM North) just like in MoA so we can buy every week without the need to book courier.

Love their croissants. The place is very plain and looks like an old house. From time to time they have a drag show which is very fun. For special croissants you need to make sure to pre order. My fave is the pistachio croissant. Take note place is a residential area with very small road so parking is very hard.

Butterboy never fails to serve (pun intended) high quality croissants. There’s something about freshly baked buttery pastries that just makes it filling, especially if you’re a bread connoisseur. They host drag brunches almost every weekend but is available everyday of the week for order and deliveries online.

Ordered caldereta croissant, pain au chocolat, kouign amann, apple danish, and classic croissant. Already tried apple danish and caldereta croissant which I both like! Caldereta croissant is not that spicy though but felt like you ate 1 meal already (no kidding, its a plus for a small frequent eater like me!) I heated apple danish for about 5minutes and true to their claim - toasting it will make it more crispy. So I certainly recommend their breads! Also, price starts at 59php. Affordable compared to coffeeshops ( I know price depends) and plus factor that I can enjoy a good cup of ☕️ with 🥐 at home.

Best croissants in Metro Manila without extortion prices! That flaky goodness is not easy to find plus the big size is enough to make a person full right away. My favorite flavors are: - Pain au chocolat - Truffle fondue basket - Almond - Chocolate hazelnut - Tom yum (but sad coz this is already discontinued)

Almond croissant: 4/10 my husband said it had an after taste of cough medicine and he’s someone who loooves almond kwaso. It’s probably the almond flavouring they used. Not sure but it was a bit strong. Kouign amman: 6/10 apparently one of their best sellers. It was okay naman but it had an umay factor after the 7th bite. 7th bite??? Hahaha Iced and hot latte were decent. Staff were so nice. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things.
