I ordered a birthday cake and they exceeded my expectations. I placed the order over the phone and they were so patient, helpful and made amazing suggestions. During pick up the 2 ladies were so sweet and helpful and expressed the excitement they had when they were decorating the cake. Everyone else loved the cake! It tasted like a fresh homeade cake and it was said that it was almost too beautiful to cut. I ordered a lemon cake with cream cheese frosting and it was one of the best lemon cakes we've had. I also ordered additional treats which were also good. I highly recommend.

I had a great experience with Buttercup BakeShop and would highly recommend them to others! We had Buttercup BakeShop make a custom cake for my friend’s 30th birthday. The initial design didn’t come out exactly the way we wanted, but they took the time to completely redo the design and managed to get it done in a few hours. The cake was reasonably priced — around $50 for a 9 inch large cake. The design was more complex and cost $85, so the total was $135. I really appreciated their patience and understanding, and their willingness to completely redo the design! They even refrigerated or froze the cake before pickup to ensure it was more stable. They also took the time to carefully package everything so that there wouldn’t be any damage to the cake during transport. Their cake was delicious and my friend loved it! Everyone was complimenting both the cake design and taste. Would 100% recommend Buttercup BakeShop to everyone and go back again!

This is my favorite cupcake shop near work, and I find myself stopping by almost every lunch break. The cupcakes are always fresh, soft, and full of flavor. My absolute favorite is the Ube—it’s unique, rich, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The staff is always friendly, which makes the experience even better. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

Everything I tried was delicious - and I'm a pretty harsh critic as a baker myself! The espresso cupcake was perfectly balanced and full of coffee flavor. The ube bar was delicious too and has a unique texture. Brookie was great if you like a fudgier brownie. Please note that you do get a free cupcake for leaving a google review - but it truly was delicious! Limited seating.

These are probably the best cupcakes in the city (trust me as a dessert girly). The icing is perfectly flavored and the cakes are never dry. I always stop in when I’m around.

Staff was wonderful! Greeted when we walked in, the ladies offered suggestions to us. We got like 6 different things so will update later. Lots to choose from and really good prices!

Good cupcakes, rich frosting and lots of selection. Late night snacks should be easy to find and good when you first-bite. I think these easily met this criteria. The only not so good item was the lemon bar. It did not taste very lemony, no zest notes and not even lemon scented, not sure why. Everything else was really good.

Buttercup Bake Shop is such an incredible bakery. We traveled to NYC all the way from Colorado and this was a guarantee stop on our trip. We planned our trip around visiting this amazing bakery.

We revisited and got an ube bar - sweet vanilla like. It was fun going here after a few years of not. It is so cute here with so many differ t types of cupcakes! And of course, other sweets! Love the wall art as well! Check them out !

The bars are super delicious and buttery! Price isn't bad at all for NYC. Service - not busy so we were helped quickly. There's 2 very, very small tables to sit so I wouldn't count on it.

I can recommend literally anything here and it would probably bring pure joy to your face! Their top tier choices, and what they are known for are their legendary Banana pudding (the original before people branched off to form Magnolia Bakery!) Their cookie bars are addicting snd their ube cake is the best ube dessert I ever had! Their staff is always friendly, happy and helpful. Who wouldn't be happy working there?!

Cute bake shop with a variety of sweets and desserts options from cupcakes to banana puddings to cookies. Love the variety of unique and cool cupcake flavors they offer such as ube, lemon, peanut butter, etc. The cupcakes are not crazy sweet which is always nice. The staffs here are super nice and friendly.

I am obsessed with their Ube cupcakes. Besides the pleasant purple color, they're perfectly textured and not sickly sweet. This place is small, just takeouts. No frills. I've had a couple other cupcake flavors that were good, the banana pudding is really good, but the Ube is where it's at.

it was lowkey kinda mid.. i got the bestest cookie and it wasn't the bestest.. my banana pudding was frozen on the inside but it wasn't that sweet so i didn't mind. derive was good, the girl who helped us out was ready to help with questions. space is small so not much seating but it was nice to see all of the sweets displayed.

Damn good yummy delectables. Open late which is even better. We were wrapping up at the bar next door and popped in before 10pm. Excellent selection and cupcakes were divine. We ordered vanilla/vanilla, cookies & cream, red velvet, meringue, and a toasted treat. Moist and flavorful and beautiful to boot.

Smaller cupcakes that I remember and they taste different. Not in a bad way but not like how Magnolia like they tasted before. I like chocolate frosting of the way they used to have it. It wasn't crowded so service was nice and quick. Place smelled great.

A little take out spot in Turtlebay. If you want buttery and rich deserts, this is definitely the place to go!

First of all the service in this little bake shop has been outstanding both of the times we've stopped by -- very friendly, very helpful. This really should be a 5-star review for the service as well as the baked goods, and would be for our first of two visits. And it is only 4 because when we went back to Buttercup for the second time, we were sad to find that they did not have the flan we were hoping to buy again or the tres leches cake that we stupidly chose to forego on our first visit. So on the 2nd visit, we clutched and bought a simple chocolate brownie. It was unfrosted, but perfectly moist and tasty. I'm sure we'll buy their brownies again, but unlike the flan I don't see us craving the brownies quite as desperately between visits. Now I don't want to oversell the flan we had, given that one person's favorite kind of custard is often very different from another's favorite. But for us this was exactly the kind of home-style south-of-the border flan you serve after a simple home-cooked meal. The custard itself is a little on the denser side, but paradoxically not at all heavy or mealy, and sweet but not excessively so. The caramelized sugar in the batch we ate from falls on the paler end of the spectrum (white gold, say, rather than a darker gold), but the flavor it lends to the custard is pitch perfect. We had half when we got home and half after dinner the next night -- not because it was too rich but because it came in such a generous portion. In that sense, their flan is sort of the opposite of the vast variety of mini cupcakes that seem to be the main attraction for Buttercup's intended market. It's also the opposite of the mini cupcakes in the sense that the custard comes with only its caramelized sugars -- no extra frills like whipped cream, flavored syrups or sprinkles. For us that was a feature not a bug. But don't worry if frills are your main need from a dessert. The cupcakes offer plenty of flavors and frills to choose from! Now, if only we had also tried the tres leches on our first visit, which looked as though its preparation was approached with much the same homestyle aesthetic as the flan. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that Buttercup will offer both the flan and the tres leches again in the future (hint hint). But even if they don't we'll be back often for the great service and to try whatever other delicious treats they're baking on any given day.

I've been craving chocolate cake and came here to get a slice. It was $6, which is way less than Little Cupcake Bakeshop ($10). They're both solid slices of chocolate cake. This one is a little smaller than Little Cupcake Bakeshop but just as good. I'd definitely come back to try some of their other cakes!

Great variety of cupcakes. Good buttercream (I make my own so I am kinda picky). Cake in the three we tried, Van Van (vanilla), s'mores and hummingbird was dense and a tad on the dry side but we were there at 9:30pm sooo....A little pricey for a regular sized cupcake ($3.50). Flavors were good and service was spot on- super nice gal gave us suggestions.

Cute, narrow bakery with a variety of desserts. Staff was friendly and fast. I tried a cupcake, brownie, and cheesecake, all of which were solid. The highlight was definitely the fun selection of cupcakes. However, I found everything to be very sweet, specifically the frosting. Truthfully, I wasn't blown away, but then again, it's hard for a dessert to be THAT bad. I'd still give this place a go, especially for a kids birthday party or casual event

We ordered four different small desserts and were happy with all of them. The Oreo cupcake was delicious and the butter cake was the best of the bunch. The staff was friendly and professional. There were beautiful cakes and cupcakes in the case. I would use them if I was having a party or or dinner at my home.

We ordered a cake in advance to be picked up. I ordered over the phone to be sure. I went first thing in the morning, the cake was boxed and bagged and ready to go! It was beautiful and such a hit at the office. Will be coming back!

AMAZING!! Magnolia has nothing on this place. I needed last minute cupcakes delivered the next day to my office for a birthday. Not only were they able to deliver but the cupcakes were absolutely delicious. I don't even like sweets but let me tell you the frosting is to die for and the lemon cupcake is heaven. My entire office enjoyed them. Thank you Buttercup. I'm a life long customer now!!

Ordered cupcakes for delivery to Drs. office where other vendors have gotten items without issue. Delivery was promised for am, not done. Specified address on order not done. Opportunity to commemorate 15 years of cancer treatment wasted. No one showed ever deal with this organization.

We ordered my husband's birthday cake from Buttercup Bake Shop in Midtown East. It was a delicious vanilla sheet cake that served our party of over 35 guests. Several people asked us afterwards where we got the cake, and we happily recommended Buttercup Bake Shop!

Nice little bakery -with lots of cupcakes, cheesecakes, and other pastries, but no coffee -I've now been here two or three times. Strangely, they don't offer coffee to go., but they do offer some light beverages and soda. Though they have seating, they are not really a sit-down place, so just come here to purchase the sweet stuff and then leave and go on your merry way. Would I come back here? Yes.

We order from here all the time when the occasion calls for baked goods (or just because!). The banana pudding is just as good as Magnolia's (and Buttercup made it first- just ask them about it!). The ube cake, red velvet cake, and brownies/blondies are also delicious.

these are some solid cupcakes. they offer a good variety of flavors. not extremely sweet like some other places.

I tried the lemon cupcake, which was extremely good as well as the vanilla bean cheesecake, which was very good. This place has a wide variety of different cupcakes and cheesecakes and I would go back!

This place deserves more hype! The cookie dough cupcake is soooo good. All of the bars are great too. They're also open pretty late which is nice.

Every cupcake and bar is made with perfection! I ordered the chunky monkey, devil dog, and ube cupcakes and they were all delicious. The gooey chocolate chip bar was so soft and yummy! I highly recommend Buttercup for when you are needing a sweet treat!

We ordered a couple cupcakes from them, and all of them were pretty solid. The staff was friendly and fast. Our only complaint is that the cake seemed a little dry-- but we went at the end of the day, so maybe that's why. Would definitely order from them again!

Not as good as they used to be. The ube cupcake is too sweet and lacking the ube flavor, I wouldn't be surprised if it were vanilla with purple food dye. The lemon cupcake was also disappointing, tastes like box cake. The lemon poppy muffin from Stop n Shop is 10x better and at the same price but obviously larger. The coconut bar was really good, a bit too sweet. I wouldn't return nor recommend it.

I really like citrus and on a casual stroll I happened on this bake shop open at 7pm night and a lightbulb lit in my head that bake shops open late are busy and delicious so I wandered in and spotted lemon bars which I've become skeptical of lately due to most places not being noticeably lemon so what do you know there's about enough lemon to be tart enough to lightly challenge a Warhead candy so I want to give this place a shout out! PS it's a tall bar and maybe twice as wide as most. I'm discovering most all portions in NYC are double the volume of "normal"

Only tried a couple of cupcakes but they were damn good. Devil dogs were a big part of my childhood and to find a cupcake version? Just gimme! Also had to try the Twinkie one and it was also great! Would def like to try some of their cakes.

Epic, fresh cupcakes delivered. I had ordered five dozen cupcakes for my client to deliver in Lower Manhattan. I couldn't be happier with the taste and quality of the cupcakes.

Cute local bakeshop for some yummy cupcakes. I'm usually at the downtown Murray Hill location, but after a meal across the street, we swung by for cupcakes. Buttercup does great classic cupcakes, small but moist and tender to the last crumb. Buttercream frosting is not cloyingly sweet, but smooth and light. $14 for a box of four, but they don't hold well in the summer heat! I like the flavors from their "premium" lineup, and this time got the Ube, Salted Caramel, Apple Pie and Red Velvet. All were delectable, especially the apple pie a la mode. Ube needed way more ube flavor though. Eat them quick, as the HOT summer is not kind to the frosting. We traveled a few blocks and the frosting was slipping and sliding away.

won't order again They sent incomplete order. What they did send was stale. Tried to resolve issue with Raoul ( I think he gave fake name) and no luck. Would not recommend. Not worth the hassel

It was one of my coworkers birthday, so we decided to get his favorite banana pudding and cupcakes from Buttercup Bake Shop. When I walked in there were many options too choose from, from puddings to brownies to cupcakes. They even had some gluten free options. Order: - Banana Pudding (5/5) - Cupcakes (4/5) Pros: - A lot of options to choose from - Gluten-free options - Tasty - Really nice employees Cons: - Frosting for cupcakes were a little too sweet Overall: Buttercup Bake Shop offers a wide variety of tasty options. I highly recommend!

Devil dog cupcakes ?! Seriously?! Grew up on devil dogs so it was a lovely throw back! Red velvet + B+W cookie heaven they nail it consistently

YUM, YUM, YUM you can smell the sugar and the butter the minute you step into this joint. I've been a covert customer for years but usually not on my dime. I've had many encounters with the baked goods here via office parties and friend's birthdays. This was my first time being in this store in person. Had no idea it was so close to my office. Walking in, display after display of sweets. Brownies, cupcakes, sugar cookies, macarons, muffins and cake in a cup. What to choose?! Flavors is the way to go. Ube yes, red velvet yes, chocolate chip yes... Then you have to decide what will satisfy your sweet tooth. I'm actually not a big fan of overly sweet stuff, I'd rather salty snacks but this fits the bill for last minute gifts and hostess thank you's or that sugar crash in the afternoon Everything in here is sweet! It tastes like butter and sugar for sure. I can recommend the cream puffs and the classic cupcakes. Banana pudding was my go to purchase this visit but the other desserts in a cup were just ok. Oreo ice box cake would be the next option for me. The folks behind the counter know their stuff. Any questions, they can answer easily. Allergies, you should ask for sure. Prices are typical NYC where it's reasonable to high.

This is my favorite bake shop, the UBE cupcake is the best. I love the customer service and I love everything in the bake shop. The banana pudding is delicious and it's not sweet.

If you cancel an order with them, keep an eye on your credit card statements to see if you really get the refund or not. You'll be told you will be getting a full refund, but email response wait times will get longer and longer, and they may run into an "issue" with their pay portal. After multiple emails with them and almost two months of being told my refund is on the way, I have yet to be refunded for my custom cake order. Paid ~$90 for a cake order that I canceled the same day... never received a cake nor my refund.

Overall cute looking shop but cupcakes are a little on the smaller side and a bit too sweet for my taste. The texture and consistency of the frosting and the cupcake are good though but the sweetness was a little overpowering for me. The cookie was good though and their banana pudding was pretty solid!

This is the 2nd time I have been here and similar to the first time I wanted to try everything. They have cupcakes, pies, cheesecake, and all sorts of stuff. I really like the cupcakes here. $3.50 a cupcake but they are damn good! I want to try the different cakes next time and maybe sneak a fudge brownie in while I am at it!The cookies are also spot on. I don't get the negative reviews but everyone has their opinion. It is a little pricey but that is nyc for you. Come check it out and support a local business!

We ordered a bunch of cupcakes and brownies after my dad told us it was National Dessert Day (for the record, it was NOT National Dessert Day but he wanted cupcakes and felt he needed an excuse, which is crazy because nobody needs a special occasion for a cupcake. For those that are wondering, October 14 is NDD) Each cupcake was more delicious than the last. We got the salted caramel, a s'mores cupcake, a hummingbird, a chocolate banana one. We got some brownies and bars and a pecan thing. Honestly every one of them was delicious. It's more reasonably priced than competitors and tastes better too.

I'm so sad! While I've been very satisfied with Buttercup's sliced cake (it's still yummy), my last two orders have seen a SIGNIFICANT decrease in the portion size of their marketed "massive" sliced cake. Take a look at my photos; Putting a la ferme yogurt cup for sizing purpose. The cake slices used to be DOUBLE the size and was put in a box that was also double the size. Now the cake slices fit in a cupcake box and what makes me sadder to say is that I'm still paying the same price. Hard to see this being worth the cost anymore. Blame rising costs and/or supply chain, but how could you charge the same amount for a smaller slice of cake? Very sad.

I decided to come here after passing by it so often, and it was definitely worth it! The staff was very friendly and I was able to quickly get my order (a cup of banana pudding). Delicious and better than any other banana pudding I've had before -- highly recommend!

Everything is definitely too sweet for a frequent sort of snack, but I did enjoy the vanilla cake vanilla buttercream slice a lot, though I tend to gravitate toward chocolatey desserts. The cake was soft, and the buttercream paired well together. The chocolate cupcakes were ok, but I liked the jam filling inside. Next time, I hope to try one of their squares/bars, which looked tasty.
