1st time ever here, heard good things so I had high expectations. Service was great, our waitress was excellent, refills and attentive, taking empty plates away. (can't remember her name, brunette lady). A good sized slice of complimentary coffee cake for us to sample was really good. (really nice touch) Everyone ordered different items both breakfast and lunch. No complaints, only compliments about the food. I wish I had tried more items than just the biscuits and sausage gravy now. Everything was made to order, exactly as described on the menu and exactly what we ordered. Happy campers all the way around. Two thumbs up for both food and service. BONUS = there is a FAMILY bathroom with a baby changing station available for those who have the little ones with them.!!! Really nice and smiling faces all over the place, even at the end of the lunch rush on a Saturday !!! Definitely will come again to sample more diverse offerings.!!!

Google
This is a great breakfast restaurant. Definitely one of our favorite in the area. We have missed having a great local breakfast place to go to and this will be our go to. The food was really good! The service was outstanding. And I really loved the restaurant atmosphere itself. The complementary coffee cake was such a nice touch and delicious.

Google
Wait was less than expected for a party of 5 and our server was really attentive. Food was great and everyone left full. The fried banana bread was a great treat that we all shared.

Google
Food and service was excellent. We got there around 10:30 and were seated right away. Pineapple mimosa was excellent. I had the quiche breakfast with a ham and asparagus quiche and a glorious morning muffin. Best muffin ever, carrot cake with raisins. Delicious. Highly recommend this place and will be back when I'm in town.

Google
I want to put my comment into context so that it really shows how I feel about this place. I love chicken fried steak!!! Like if it's on the menu I am getting it. This place has the best chicken fried steak I have ever had!!! We were a party of 6 and everyone loved their menu. Our waitress Tara was amazing. If you want breakfast dont go anywhere else!!!!

Google
I need you to understand that this food changed my life. I forgot you could even enjoy food this much. Chicken and waffles is my favourite brunch food, and these were the best I’d ever had. Perfectly crunchy chicken, soft buttermilk waffle, great syrup, and the muffins were the best I’d ever had too. Came out warm and fresh and so perfectly moist. I am so glad my beautiful friend Magnolia showed me this place, it’s an hour drive for me but it’s so damn worth it. Beautiful atmosphere and great service too.

Google
Yum! 😋 heard about this place from friends. Great service and delicious food! 🙌 had an original mimosa, fried mushrooms, cranberry muffin and honey suckle salad with grilled chicken. Salad was chefs kiss 😚 recommend!

Google
Our waiter, Kelly, was phenomenal. So knowledgeable and friendly. The eggs Benedict are only available on the weekend, so he recommended either the coastal or creole breakfast. I chose the Costal and ate every single morsel. Polenta was dense and perfect texture, the lobster sauce 🥰🥰 I wanted to swim in, flavorful big shrimp, the poached egg was a fine complement to the dish. Hat’s off to the chef and to Kelly for the perfect recommendation.

Yelp
This is a cute restaurant. When we arrived, there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. Always a great sign!! Once we were seated, our waitress came over and greeted us. She was super friendly and gave a few recommendations, since it was our first time. Of course, I got the pancakes. My coworker opted for lunch. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The portion sizes are more than enough. Everything we had was delicious. I would definitely return when in the area.

Yelp
Pancakes to die for and chicken fried steak that will make you fall in love! Excellent comfort food, large portions and top notch service. Large group and we were seated easily. Plenty of parking Easy to find Great service and filling breakfast to start your day.

Yelp
Jagger gave our table of four adults and one kid great service. Orders were taken and appeared soon afterwards. He understands: Fill My Coffee Mug is #1 priority! Next priority is great biscuits and plenty of sausage gravy. They were fantastic! Wonderful atmosphere of cozy country kitchen. I'll be back!

Yelp
My bf and I went on a Tuesday morning and sat right down. Quickly got our drinks and ordered our food. The food was out so fast! And it was amazing , my favorite place I have tried this week so far. Definitely will be going back. It had cute homey vibes. Sweetest waitress too.

Yelp
Yummmmm! This place was definitely better the second time around. The food was delicious and had lots of flavor. The wait was still a little long so I would definitely make a reso. The service was great. The restaurant was a little dated but still very comfortable. This was redeeming!

Yelp
I really like the Buttermilk Cafe, and I have been eating there for almost three years. However, my husband and I decided to try the chicken fried steak recently I don't think we have ever been more disappointed with the meal we have had there. To be honest it was the worse chicken fried steak I have ever had, and we have had some bad ones over the years neither one of us could actually eat the steak. tough as nails to be kind! I don't like to create bad reviews however I just had to in this case as their chicken fried steak is not cheap. we ate our biscuit and potatoes and by then when the server finally asked how it was (way toooo late I might say) we just said we couldn't eat it, never offered to have management come over or anything just said OH! We will go there again of course but we won't be having the chicken fried steak.

Yelp
It's a very busy restaurant on a Wednesday morning. Beautiful surroundings with quality fall decor integrated in. The portions were generous. Chicken fried steak was good and going home with us as well. Crustless quiche was rich with cream. Potatoes were good. The chicken pot pie was to die for -- at least for me :) creamy, nice crust, and vegetables were tiny. Okra was good as well.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday morning. We did experience a wait but it was a great opportunity to enjoy the day and talk. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by smiles and the smell of good food. The service was quick, the food was warm and yummy. The prices are appropriate for the restaurant. Definitely will be coming again !
google avatar

Yelp
One of our favorite places to go, the food here is always great and the service is wonderful. We look forward to the breakfasts, just be aware that the weekend brings a lot of people so the wait is there. The inside is nice and while it seems crowded, it really is not and you are able to enjoy conversation and each other.

Yelp
Did not plan on being in New Braunfels all day. But what a Cuul happen stance having had too! I located this Cafe & So Happy I did. Cute interior & Service with a smile even while taking my order as I spoke on my cell & mouthed my request (with a Great Big Smile in Tow!). AAANNNDDD He got it one thousand percent correct! Jonathan L. Was very attentive. I'll DEFLY BE BACK for a Full on breakfast! Granola was Jist' what I needed!

Yelp
Stopped in with my wife, brother and aunt. We were able to be seated right away, which based on other reviews surprised me. Service was very friendly, attentive and quick. We ordered and had our food in less than 10-mins. We stuck to the breakfast menu and everything was awesome. Only gripe, the cinnamon roll had too much frosting. The texture of the roll itself was really good though. All food items were cooked perfectly, seasoned well and delicious. How great can a biscuit be, really? Well, this place makes some really tasty biscuits that stick out above most I've had. Coffee was also very solid. Being something of a coffee snob, I found their bean blew very accommodating to the meal. The entire breakfast and lunch menu looked great and makes me want to go back for sure.
google avatar

Joy F.

Yelp
What a disappointment. The chicken fried steak was horrible. The breading fell off so I just ate the meat. I will never return. Our bill was over 60 dollars for 2.
google avatar

Yelp
10 out of 10!! We will definitely be back! The staff is so friendly, ambiance we lovely.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and they have gluten free options! I appreciate that they take such care with my gluten free food and care about food allergies. Servers are nice, professional and prompt.

Adrian M.

Yelp
The food was good, but the first time in my life (46) years that I have been to a restaurant that doesn't have tabasco hot sauce for my food ! And NO creamer-flavors (French vanilla, hazelnut) for coffee. Hopefully the owners make a few changes and add some more options for the customers. Especially paying the amount for food we did.

Yelp
This place was packed to the brim with people, chairs, and tables. Came here for brunch and was semi disappointed in our choices. I got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict with a side of fried green beans, is a special not on their normal menu but the little menu left on the tables. I guess I was just disappointed because the salmon was completely dry, and the tarragon hollandaise was a bit tooooo much. The waitress did bring regular hollandaise over whenever I had one bite left. The best part of the dish was the green beans ‍ My husbands bowl looks big in the picture but it's not big at all. He ate majority of my food and my daughter's food just to be stuffed.
google avatar

Laura F.

Yelp
Really delicious home cooked food! I had their quiche special with soup and we all shared a dessert. They get very crowded on weekends and around lunchtime, so be sure to go early to get on the list. They will not seat incomplete parties either.
google avatar

Ernest C.

Yelp
Coastal breakfast. You will thank me later. Amazing! Coffee was great. They do offer flavor for your coffee for $1. But it's enough for 2-3 cups Great food. Great service.
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
Food was super delicious. Had 2 eggs over medium cooked to perfection with sausage links and 1 large pancake. I loved the pancake as it was dense yet fluffy. Tasted great loaded with bittersweet and syrup. I am a purest and chose not to add fruit or chocolate chips to my pancake. Our waiter, Adrian, was the best. Great personality and great service. Highly recommend this place and ask for Adrian!
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places! I love their shrimp and grits- creole breakfast , it's amazing, tomato based and delicious! I also have to get a pineapple mimosa EVERYTIME!
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
I've been here three times and every time the food and service is excellent. The menu has a good variety. All seating is inside. It gets very busy, so be prepared to wait. The longest we've had to wait is about 20 minutes.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Overall excellent experience. Food was great! I got the French toast breakfast. French toast had great flavor and was topped with a fair amount of strawberry. Bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly and the side potatoes were crisp but soft and flavorful. My partner got the Avocado Toast and she said the flavor profile was thoughtfully layered. She really liked it. They seemed really busy but the 10-15 minute wait time they gave us was accurate and everything seemed to running smoothly and efficiently. We were served very quickly and the food came out fresh. Very good vibes and friendly staff.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
Pancake was chewy and too cold to melt butter, sausage was kielbasa, i wanted breakfast sausage, grits were good though. Service was good, I would go back maybe and try something else.
google avatar

Dorris T.

Yelp
Great service great food and cute place. We stopped in to get breakfast. I ordered the avacado toast with a fried egg on top. My husband got the eggs, sausage potatoes and a pancake. Everything was very good. Pancakes were delish. Can't wait to go back and try their lunch menu.
google avatar

Connie M.

Yelp
If you're going there for mimosas, just order the bottle lol. Food was good. Eggs for me tasted a little more like they're stored battered but other than that, it was great.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
My friend and I had a disappointing experience at Buttermilk on Monday. The turkey and dressing no longer come with dressing, and biscuits or cornbread are only served at an extra charge. Despite the good salad with buttermilk salad dressing, sweet potato casserole, and cranberry apple sauce, the turkey tasted like frozen freezer burn, and the gravy was too salty to eat with the turkey. The unhelpful waitstaff and subpar hamburger steak with a thin and frozen patty were also disappointing. I am willing to pay more for the old quality to return and enjoy fresh, high-quality meats and properly seasoned gravy. * please don't destroy your quality over cost saving!
google avatar

Alejandra M.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 5/5 Pretty decent wait time for a table of two, the pancakes were delicious(so yumm).
google avatar

Cris G.

Yelp
I saw some good reviews for The Buttermilk Cafe, but it was the throng of people waiting outside at 11am on a Friday morning that let us know this could be the right place. Turnover was swift and we might have waited for 30 minutes. Wasn't bad for how many people were waiting. I wanted to walk away and am glad we gave them a chance. My wife was ready for breakfast, I was ready to move on to lunch. She had a standard breakfast plate as she was craving biscuits. Their biscuits were not her highlight. Their grits were fairly limber and not stiff. I had the country fried steak, which I started to wonder the difference with chicken fried steak. The breading was tasty, but not very thick (so that's the difference?). The steak was piping hot. They had brown gravy (I like that better than cream). The fried okra was fresh okra not over battered although someone lost a little control with the salt. Their mac and cheese was acceptable. Our waitress was lively and kept our drinks full. Overall it was a pleasant meal.
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
The Chicken Fried Steak is a piece of shoe leather wrapped around a very disappointing thin crust. It's not homemade but something frozen dropped in the deep fryer. For a "chef" owned restaurant it was a shocker. I'm used to a much, much better CFS from restaurants that are run by terrific homemade cooks, not this crap. And they're very proud of their food judging by the prices. The staff were the best I've encountered but what good is that if the main function of your business is the product you put on the table. We won't be back.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
This place is always so delicious, which is why it is always so packed- no matter the day or time. Everything is fresh, the coffee is extra hot and the service great. I must also add that the prices are extremely reasonable. My husband and I stopped in here for a later breakfast during the weekday, and surprisingly there was still a wait (albeit very short). I wanted to try something different and opted for the baked oatmeal. Wow! I need to figure out how to make that at home- it was so delicious and warmed up my soul. Every different thing I have tried here has yet to disappoint. I definitely can't wait to come back to try something else that I haven't.

Bruce W.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast or lunch. It can get crowded, especially on weekends expect to have a wait list. Service was excellent, food was quick. A great hometown cafe!
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Not Mitch breakfast place. They have everything. Their muffins and quiche are great! Definitely a great choice.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times, the food is always delicious, haven't been disappointed by what I've ordered. Service is excellent, even tho they're busy they still provide quality service. The inside is spacious with a good flow, with a nice country atmosphere.

Hayley Y.

Yelp
Have been there multiple times. The last time my husband and I visited we were very disappointed because we have always had delicious food. This time neither of us enjoyed our food. If it hadn't cost $52 plus a tip we would give it another try and think they may have had a bad day.
google avatar

Jo Ann S.

Yelp
This restaurant has a diverse menu. Very good service. Waiter Kevin very knowledgeable on menu. I had Avacoda toast with fruit cup and added crispy bacon. Very delicious. Would have preferred balsamic glaze rather than balsamic vinegar, though. My husband loved the smoked sausage that came with his 3 eggs and pancake.
google avatar

Alysha K.

Yelp
Coastal Breakfast was exceptional. The bread is delicious and chewy. The sausage links were great. French toast- 2 thumbs up. The potatoes perfectly seasoned and cooked. Nice ambiance, good service. Best breakfast we had in New Braunfels over 4 days. Would highly recommend
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to get a table sometimes, especially since they are only open in the morning and early afternoon. However, the food is amazing. The chicken fried steak and eggs are the best in the area by far in my opinion. Don't let them being busy put you off, it's absolutly worth a little wait for this affordable and delicious restaurant.
google avatar

Ricky R.

Yelp
I'm back just to update a previous review. This place is still amazing, and it is always a treat to come here. I've been eating here for over 10 years now and I've never had a bad experience. I still highly recommend this little jewel of a spot. The food and the service have always been pleasant. However, I will be editing my review from a 5 star review to a 4 star review. While this restaurant is very clean, I tend to be somewhat of a germaphobe, and do not like to drink out of glasses without a straw. Well, for some reason, unbeknownst to me, they have nixed straws and will not provide them. I get it.... With the inflated prices of all goods and services going up, businesses look to save money. This business also charges you extra to use your credit card to pay for the meal so they do not have to take the hit from the credit card vendor. I am not even mad about that, and I fully understand that no business is exempt from rising prices. However, I find the tactic of not providing me a straw to be cheap. I'm sure a 25 cent straw will not eat into your profit margin that much. Bring back the d- straws.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Service was great! Our server Philip was very friendly and helpful. Pretty solid breakfast/brunch spot, very open & welcoming. I was highly disappointed on the quality of my meal. The pancakes were stale & almost hard to cut through. Also, it's only 1 pancake for every breakfast plate. I was expecting at least 2. Chicken sausage & potatoes were prepared perfectly. I would say I do not plan to visit again anytime soon.
google avatar

Denny H.

Yelp
Great food and amazing service. There is usually a wait, but so worth it. One of the first restaurants we visited when we moved here. Love the food and be expected to wait during summer hours.
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
A very nice and efficient diner is open until the afternoon that specializes in breakfast. The service was impeccable and the place was spotless. It can get busy at times so choose your visit wisely.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Food was ok, very high priced though. Server was nice and knowledgeable. Food came out incorrect, missing items but was hot. I'd give a better review but just can't because the order was wrong and the server knew it because she mentioned it when she set my plate down. Just a tip, if you know the food is wrong, replace it before bringing it to the table.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a gem. The minute you walk in you are greeted with hospitality. The staff takes your order and while it may take a little bit, after getting it you realize why. The food is great. I had the meatloaf and you get up to 3 sides. They have plenty of sides to select from including a house salad that is a good size and tasty. So fresh. It seemed all the vegetables were freshly picked. I loved it. And since really struggled between breakfast and lunch I ordered an extra - a bisquite with my meal. I over did it a little, but it was lite and so good. My meal included the meatloaf, stuffing, sweet potatoes, small salad (not shown) and a good size grilled peach that was very flavorful. My partner had a Honey Suckle salad that was so good from what she said. It had grilled chicken and came with a big muffin. Everything was fresh. This is a place that if you are looking for something totally different, but yet a good home cooked meal, make this your stop. You'll likely return. And again, the staff especially at the front door awesome. When we left, the guy told my partner - "thanks for coming in Vicki". That was appreciated. Especially because the place was packed.
google avatar

Kristi S.

Yelp
My baked oatmeal was fantastic. There were 8 women in our group and everyone enjoyed their breakfast very much. Terra was a wonderful waitress! We will make this our weekly place.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
This place was pretty disappointing despite the menu sounding promising. Everything sounds great but is mediocre at best and overpriced for what it is. For the pricing here, you're better off going to Snooze or another brunch place and actually get something more unique than your typical eggs and bacon marketed to be farm fresh and homemade. No complaints on the service, but there was just nothing enticing enough about the place to go out of your way to stop by. Food ratings: - Shirred eggs (2/5): Basically baked eggs in cream with bacon, tomatoes, and green onion. They overcooked them - would have been better with runny or soft yolks. Nothing that flavorful about it. The biscuits were good but I've had better. And the red potatoes are decent but nothing extraordinary. - Classic breakfast (3/5): The most disappointing part was the sausage gravy. Tasted like the thin packet version. My mom's recipe and my own are much better. Everything else was pretty basic and again, just nothing special. Overall it's not a terrible place, but I wouldn't opt to go here again with so many other options on the market. For breakfast/brunch to be really impressive, it needs to have something unique or just over the top. Otherwise you can simply make it at home.

Yelp
Service was good, not great but good. Server was knowledgeable of main menu, but did not point out other items in separate menu on table that looked like a wine menu. Watched as buss people took care of tables after we found ours to still be dirty. The lady buster just emptied dishes and did not know what a cleaning cloth was. Second young man came to wipe table but in our short time there observed at least 3 tables that never got wiped before next guess were seated. Now we get to food tough pancakes, unsweet tea with no spoon too stir in sweetener. Eggs (3) 1 just right, second yellow half cooked hard, 3rd still runny white. Ordered side of sausage gravy. Gravy came in tiny bowl that was not even enough to cover half a biscuit. Biscuits were good. All and all way over priced for what you get. There are much better breakfast places than this in New Braunfels. First time here and it will be last.

Yelp
This is the place to come for breakfast or brunch!! I knew it was going to be a great experience by the wait time. We made the drive from San Antonio and was definitely worth it. The experience is worth the wait. Unfortunately, you can't "join the waitlist" through Yelp or by calling in. We drove 30 minutes to visit, then had to wait an hour to be seated. We have two children under 3 so we waited in the car. I had to run in every 15-20 minutes to check our wait because they text with updates. Our time was up and we were finally seated. The servers were very accommodating and nice! We didn't have to wait too long which is always great with young children. Coffee was pretty decent. One thing that I didn't quite understand about this restaurant was that they don't do straws. That makes Things a little difficult with young kids. I think that was the biggest downfall of our experience, but also a hill that I'm not going to die on. Food came out fairly quickly, and they serve coffee-cake on the house! The country fried steak was the best I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly! It was fantastic. Not overly breaded and did not get soggy over time. Stayed crispy and was not over cooked. The eggs and potatoes were pretty basic but I was obsessed with the country fried steak. my boys loved their pancakes, one pancake fed them both, which was great! My wife really enjoyed the chicken and waffles as well! Chicken was well breaded and crispy! Any time we're around we will definitely be making this trip! We will just bring our own sippy cups for the boys :) The service was great and the food was fantastic but my favorite part was that the owners would walk around and wait on tables as well. He even came and sat with us for about 20 minutes, which we enjoyed. It really was a great experience.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. We're on the hunt for a "go-to" American-style breakfast joint, and so far, this place is the winner. The inside is dimmed and well laid out for small groups, not overly loud so it's easy to hold a conversation. The staff is friendly and very welcoming - even early in the morning. We ordered their Lox bagel, Chicken fired steak, and Pecan cinnamon roll. All were very tasty. The bagel had plenty of salmon on it, not too much or too little of cream cheese and I liked the additions they had on the side of greens, capers, and citrus that I could add as I liked. the Chicken fried steak was a great size, cooked perfectly, was crispy and moist, with a gravy that was the perfect consistency and had great peppery flavor. However the winner of the day was the black coffee matched with their rich decadent pecan cinnamon roll, it was large, chewy, creamy, cinnamon-y, crunchy -- and everything our sweet tooth needed. Loved this place and will defiantly be coming back.

Yelp
Waited 45 minutes on a Saturday afternoon and boy was it worth it. Ordered the breakfast strata photo enclosed and it was delicious and perfect size meal. Coffee was good too. Wife and I tried several other times to go but this time was waited glad we did.
