Still my favorite brunch spot -- just one area for improvement
Butters Pancakes is hands-down my favorite brunch spot in town. The chocolate chip pancakes with Vermont maple syrup and a side of bacon is my forever go-to -- comforting, consistent, and always delicious. The servers here are phenomenal -- warm, attentive, and always make me feel genuinely welcome.
This place holds a special place in my heart. Earlier this year, before my father passed away, I brought him here to share one of my favorite meals. He was visiting from Hawaii, and I wanted him to experience the brunch spot I loved so much. That memory means the world to me, and it's one of the reasons I'll always have a soft spot for this place.
The only consistent issue I've experienced is with the host stand. Their energy often feels too laid back -- almost unwelcoming. On multiple visits, especially near closing (even when I arrive a full 30 minutes before), I've been met with passive remarks like, "You've got maybe five minutes to order," even though I'm well within dining hours. It gives the impression that they'd prefer I not be seated at all. Once I'm seated, the experience completely turns around, which shows me this issue is isolated to the front of house.
I truly love this restaurant -- it's familiar, special, and always worth the visit. I just hope the hospitality at the door eventually reflects the warmth and excellence of the rest of the team.
