Members-Only Dinner Club Tasting Collective Makes New Orleans Debut | Eater New Orleans

"A members-only dinner club that stages five-course, dinner-party-style events at restaurants on nights they’re closed or slow, Tasting Collective operates in about a dozen U.S. cities (including Houston, New York, and D.C.). Its goal is to “create a stage” for chefs to experiment and “put on a show,” with chefs coming out to introduce each course, tell stories about their process, and participate in a Q&A during dessert while diners provide direct, constructive feedback via cards that are handed to the chefs after the event — Gelb calls it “essentially the anti-Yelp.” All event profit goes to the restaurants, which keeps tickets reasonably priced (about $60 for a five-course meal); memberships cost $165 per year (first 500 New Orleans members can join at $99), only members can buy tickets, events run every two to three weeks (roughly 20–30 dinners a year), guests are welcome for an extra $25, and the club — launched in New York City in 2016 by Nat Gelb — aims to give diners a behind-the-scenes, interactive experience with top chefs." - Clair Lorell

Members-Only Dinner Club Tasting Collective Expands to Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Operating as a private dining membership club, I see Tasting Collective taking over top independent restaurants on their typically closed or slower days to host six-course tasting dinners; it currently operates in Austin, Chicago, NYC, Philly, San Francisco, Oakland, and Washington, DC, and is launching in Nashville with its first event on Monday, April 1 at Peninsula. Founder Nat Gelb says the idea is to 'create a stage upon which executive chefs can experiment with new dishes and put on a show,' a concept rooted in his upbringing around farms in upstate New York where food was a human, communal experience. Gelb launched the company in NYC in May 2016, and it has grown to over 4,000 paying members across six chapters. Memberships cost $165 annually and tickets to dinners are $50; events seat 50–100 members who receive six-course menus presented personally by the chef, peppered with personal anecdotes and closing with a Q&A during dessert. I used By Tastings for my wedding and I can't emphasize enough how incredible they were. Not only was the food incredible but the service was top notch. For days, my guests have been reaching out to compliment the food and service, stating how fun, personable, and detailed oriented everything was. I worked closely with Franck and Steffi on designing the experience for my wedding and their creative input was everything to help elevate the event into a magical night. Gaudir is now open 6 evenings a week (and for breakfast on weekends too) and I finally made it there. In the year or so I’ve heard if it, it’s only been open on Mondays and now I’m sorry I hadn’t been there sooner. The food is really good, the room is now a little different than it had been when it was Mountain Bird (new tables, artwork, a bit more lighting, and a bigger bar with a few seats), and the staff is incredibly friendly, including the chef who visits the tables and serves some dishes himself! We went two nights in a row and highly recommend the Gaudir salad, the eggplant dish with anchovy, the ham — not to be missed— and the churros (though I prefer them without the chocolate.). I took a photo of the mushroom dish but I didn’t eat it because I was too full thanks to our over ordering but I’m including it because it’s so beautiful.

I reached out through their online inquiry form and detailed my event requirements, including specific questions about options for my post-wedding party. Unfortunately, my questions went unanswered, and I only received a sample menu with an immediate quote. To my surprise, they sent me a price without inquiring about my needs, and the menu was full of seafood despite my allergy. This demonstrated a lack of attention to my event specifics and felt far from bespoke. I followed up several times, but my inquiries remained unaddressed. I even suggested a phone call for clarity, but that email was overlooked, and communication ceased altogether. For a company that markets itself as "bespoke," their lack of responsiveness and care for client details was disappointing. I will be exploring other options for my event needs.

I just catered a party for 60 people in my home using Tastings NYC and it was terrific working with them. I wanted an elegant rehearsal dinner with a cocktail hour and a sit down dinner. The staff showed up early and set up the entire indoor dining area. During the party, we started with an open bar and hors d'ouevres outside. The bar tender was excellent and the passed hors d'ouevres were tasty and terrific. We then went downstairs for dinner and had a choice of Miso Cod or Korean Short ribs. Both were excellent. We had great side dishes as well. For dessert, we had opera cake and blueberry cobbler. The staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating to the adjustments I made during the evening. At the end, my place was clean and items were neatly staged for pickup by the party rental company. Franck was our contact at Tastings, he was great. I would work with him again in a heartbeat. Our captain for the evening was Peter. He was also amazing. Overall, I highly recommend these folks and will use them for my next party.

We used Tastings NYC to cater a very small corporate on-site event (six people) and they were excellent. I tried to order from them online but the site wasn't cooperating so I gave them a call to see if they could assist. I worked with Kenwyn who was extremely gracious, professional, and took good care of us. This order was a little bit last-minute but Kenwyn consistently kept us in the loop with our order and stayed on top of all our changes and requests. The on-site attendees raved about the food and the service was top-notch. Thanks for coming through for us, and for being so reliable and professional.

Lovely Japanese and French restaurant for true foodies who appreciate creativity and authenticity presented in quality and fresh ingredients. Just take a few minutes to read the menu and you will understand what I mean. Don't miss this hidden gem in Harlem, and remember to ask for the specials of the day. Also, this is a no-tip restaurant.

I highly recommend the grilled octopus dish. It’s BEYOND tender and it literally melts in your mouth. I had the fish special and that was AMAZING as well. The ambiance was very romantic and relaxing. I would definitely recommend this place.

I purchased a Cinco de Mayo cocktail box for my husband's birthday. It came in a lovely box that I didn't have to wrap. Cocktails were great. I would order from them again.
