West Seattle’s Alchemy and Vine and Spoon Hit With Eviction Notices | Eater Seattle

"Located on Capitol Hill, By the Pound was F2T’s deli with a hidden bar that accrued roughly $75,000 in unpaid rent and faced eviction; just when it seemed poised to close for good, F2T said they’d brought on a new “strategic partner” to retool the space." - Megan Hill

Award-Winning West Seattle Bar Finally Gets Its Upscale Companion Restaurant | Eater Seattle

"Opened in late 2017, I see By the Pound as a Capitol Hill sandwich shop that combines aspects of classic and modern neighborhood delis with a hidden bar that requires a password to enter." - Megan Hill

We love shopping at By the Pound! Bring your own containers (they have some if you don’t), and fill up on all of your staples. We get a wide variety of items from here at a great price. Customer service is the best as well!

This is my favorite store in my entire life and world. It feels so special and like a warm hug shopping there. Staff and customers and so friendly and helpful and they have every herb and spice you’ve ever heard of plus one hundred more you haven’t. I love choosing something new and finding a recipe to make with it. I only have to buy exactly the amount I need for that recipe too and I save so much money. I love that they carry UK snacks and Indian foods as well.

Rustic? Yes. Authentic? Definitely. By the Pound started in the 1980’s in Ann Arbor, MI but has many historical precedents, when flours, grains, sweets, teas were sold at any General Store before the prepackaged Industrial Age. The store moved to its present location 3, 4 years ago. This store is Colonial, “Old World” vintage feel. Thus the inventions of Electricity, Coolant systems and modern day conveniences changed the way products were sold. This is a throwback store without containers for the majority of spices and powders. We, 21st century folks take packaging and refrigeration for granted. You determine prices per pound by the quantity of product you choose. A large variety of items to choose from. The gentleman had an accent that wasn’t a Michiganders, next time I visit, I’ll ask him about it. Atmosphere and reception is very important to this reviewer, and I’m happy to say, Acceptance, was in evidence. Enjoy your adventure in this store as there is a lot to choose from and purchase.

Amazing little shop that stocks everything for sale by the pound. Everything from candy to pasta. All stock is clean and everything is fresh. Would recommend to anyone.

Long time Ann Arbor staple. If you are buying spices anywhere else and live in the area you are doing it wrong. This is also the spot to buy dried fruits and nuts. Pretty much anything you could want that is shelf stable is sold here at a great price. They also have an extensive selection of loose leaf teas.

I ran out of one of my herbs that I use for pain and I called them to see if they had it and they did. They are amazing and I felt welcomed even over the phone. They also get to know your name especially if you become a regular.

One of my favorite shops in all of Ann Arbor. I visit every other week to stock up on pantry essentials. I always buy my coffee, spices, oats, flours, falafel mix, nuts, and honey from here because I can bring my own jars or containers. They also have a small selection of canned goods and refrigerated items. If you’re looking to ban single use plastic from your life, this is a great option.
