Where to Eat in St. Paul’s Eastside Payne Phalen Neighborhood | Eater Twin Cities

"This comfortable, counter-service taco joint that packs a punch, Bymore is the Payne-Phalen spot for everything Mexican. Tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas fill the menu, with a self service topping bar that houses the spots homemade salsa." - Ryan Meaney

My wife and I had the best tacos I've ever had here. The girl at the register was very friendly and helpful. The lady cooking behind her looked like she was a mother and that's who I want cooking for me; Mom! I was right. This Mom was spot on. Lastly, I needed to use the mens room and this was the cleanest I had seen all weekend. Highly recomended.

Excellent tacos! The grilled chicken was done perfectly. I like that you can choose your own toppings and salsas. The salsas are very flavorful. The people that work here are very cordial. I will definitely stop back here again. There are so many good Mexican places to eat on the East Side, but this one stands out!

Small store with a true Mexican feel. Includes a butcher shop and has limited street parking.

First time there. Was awesome to see the different options and we found some ite.s we wanted to try.

This place is excellent! Quick service and great menu options. I recommend the homemade corn quesadilla that comes stuffed with queso fresco, choice of meat, lettuce, tomatoes and cilantro.

I see they somehow carried over the reviews for the restaurant across the street to this rip-off grocery store to make it look better than it is. $4.59 for a small bag of fritos. $8.99 for a package of hot dogs that was labeled $3.49 in the refrigerator. $4.99 for the same pack of rice pudding you would get at Walmart for half the price. Pretty much everything here is way too expensive. I don't know how they stay in business other than having loyal Mexican customers that want very specific things not found elsewhere in the area. Also there was a drugged up guy begging for change at the front door. You should probably do something about that.

Yelp
We eat at Ward 6 all the time and I've been curious about this little mercado across the street for some time. Today we needed tortilla chips so we popped in after brunch. I am really glad we did. First of all, they had El Milagro tortilla chips, which are our favorite and are actually a little hard to find around here. Total score. The store is small but well organized. Everything was neatly arranged. The produce area was small but adequate -- if you need stuff for pico or any one of a ton of varieties of peppers, this is your place.. We also were surprised to find the meat counter to be larger than we thought it would be. We spotted all of our favorite cuts but didn't buy any (being stuffed from brunch). Next time maybe.. The cashier who checked us out was super friendly and very nice. Reading the other review here, I am now bummed that I missed the fresh tortillas. Next time...

Yelp
I found the salsa de javier to be bland call him he served it to me and claimed it to be his own. 651_331_8711 however the chichiorone were proper.

Yelp
Always shop here for fresh meat and tortillas and Mexican things you can't easily find elsewhere. Mexican Pepsi in glass bottle for example or an authentic loteria game or a piñata or chicharrones or carnitas. If you can dream it they have it, buy more!

Yelp
Not a bad mexican grocery. Always has fresh tortillas. Meat counter is clean, and tastes pretty good. Produce is hit and miss, depending on what it is.
