As an American, when I think of a "proper hamburger" I imagine a delicious patty with a nice, pink middle, known as medium rare. Cooking a burger is a very simple process, but when we visited Bryon "Proper" Hamburgers, there was a card explaining that they did not have the correct equipment for accomplishing a truly proper hamburger - i.e. I guess a frying pan? Anyway, the food was adequate, but honestly about 30% over-priced. The service was slow, and we had to wait a long time for our bill. You can get the same type of slightly over-cooked hamburger at any Greene King pub, of which Cambridge has an abundance, for slightly less. We also split a milkshake, and although tasty, it was still over-priced and nothing to write home about.
