15 Best Bars in Lisbon | Condé Nast Traveler

"By the Wine’s arched ceiling is undoubtedly its most striking design feature: row after row of green-glass wine bottles that reinforce the raison d'être of this bar in the trendy Chiado neighborhood, which belongs to the winemaking empire José Maria da Fonseca. As its name implies, wines by the glass—all from Portugal—are the name of the game here. There are also plenty of bottles. Try wines like Domini from the Douro and Puro Talha from the Alentejo. Several thousand bottles are up for grabs in the shop. Come to get good grasp of the thrilling Portuguese wine scene and try some equally impressive food in a buzzy atmosphere that puts the spotlight on one of Portugal’s oldest wine producers." - Alia Akkam

We came here for our last dinner in Portugal and loved it! The food was good but the highlight was the wine and the service. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and let us try different wines while explaining the different regions in Portugal. I would recommend for wine lovers looking for a fun vibe

Stumbled upon this place, headed to our dinner reservations and decided to stop in for a glass of wine. Beautiful place with super helpful servers. We grabbed a couple seats at the bar for a glass of wine. Great spot to watch the gentleman slicing ham and making gorgeous charcuterie boards. So the next night, we went for dinner after seeing all the amazing plates the night before. Food was lovely. Wine was fantastic. Service was great with amazing suggestions.

We went on a walk till I found the perfect place to eat! We were lucky enough to get 4 bar seats as we had no reservation and it was extremely busy!! Atmosphere popping and so much fun. The decor was beautiful and the food and the green wine were impeccable. I had a sandwich that had arugula, beef, and most amazing mustard sauce. I’m drooling thinking about it!!! I wanted to go back and sadly never made it hopefully one day!

By the Wine quickly became my favorite wine bar in Lisbon — and not just because of the iconic wine bottle ceiling. The food is great, the wine list by the glass is solid, but what truly sets this place apart is the staff. They're incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and always ready with spot-on wine recommendations. Their warm, attentive service elevates the entire experience. A fantastic place all around — highly recommended!

Great vibes for dinner. They have big table for big groups in the back hall. Food was good, some dishes like the octopus was excellent.

We discovered this restaurant in the afternoon and asked to book a table. Unfortunately, it was already fully booked but were given the option to sit in the bar if we came back in the evening which we did and were welcomed immediately the very friendly hostess. A big selection of wines, the food is very tasty but the portions are quite big so ordered a bit too much (we asked the waitress if it was and she said no it is ok). when the food arrived - after a good wait - we were surprised by the quantity, most probably there has been a mess up in the kitchen cause all our food arrived at the same time and it was much but delicious. Highly recommend the place and the staff is very nice and fun.

We were in Lisboa for 2 nights, and I feel downright lucky to have found this bar. The owner has crafted an experience, from the ambiance of the bar and decor of the gorgeous dining area, to the wine selection. He has found a wine to fit any taste, and is capable of helping you find it with grace and ease, though not every bartender is as adept. The cheese, though its smell overwhelmed when he first cut open the wheel, melted into gorgeous, sumptuous flavors that kept me engaging with it and his selection of wine for several hours. I know I'll return to this bewitching city if for nothing else than to spend another evening at BytheWine.
