For years I've been sent the Lidgate emails and drooled over all the tasty-sounding meat. Finally, for the 4th of July, I decided it was time to make the slight trek out and get some meat for the barbecue.
It's not a very big place but it's full to the brim of many tasty looking things! It's a bit hard to see the things for the BBQ as they're only on display in the window. But we made our picks and came back inside and placed the order - a Jamaican chicken skewer, a steak and onion skewer, a chicken and lemongrass skewer, and a wagyu beef burger. We also got some smoked bratwurst, a chicken and olive pie for dinner another night, some veal and gruyere burgers, also for another night, and some pecan pie slices.
Last night my other half endeavoured to fit all the meat on the BBQ. We were a bit disappointed in the chicken skewers, which were expensive (between £5 to £7 each) and didn't have much flavour of the marinades. But the chicken was nice! Our favourite was the steak skewer (£8) and the wagyu burger was tasty, too (around £3). The pecan pie isn't good and at £2.20 a slice, is good value but I wouldn't recommend it.
Service was prompt and friendly, and our bag of food was heavy and full for about £40. The packaging though wasn't perfect - the frozen pie put at the bottom of a paper bag caused the bag to rip in about an hour, but we had another bag and it was okay in the end.
They had a huge selection of sausages, which we didn't buy but we did sample some and they were really good. I think it's worth going back, but next time I'll be a bit more selective.
