"C. Lidgate is a family-run business in its 5th generation, meaning they've been around for about 150 years. Their meats are sourced from local farms, and father/son pair David and Danny Ludgate travel across the English countryside to source it. As a result, their homemade sausages and meat pies (made with exclusively organic and grass-fed meat) are award-winning."

Lidgate’s is absolutely fantastic — a real gem in Holland Park. The quality here is second to none, and although it’s a bit on the expensive side, you really do get what you pay for. Everything is beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Their sausage rolls and pasties are a must-try — rich, hearty, and some of the best you’ll find anywhere. The service is knowledgeable and friendly too, which makes the whole experience even better. If you want top-quality produce and traditional favourites done properly, Lidgate’s is worth every penny.

Saw this butchers whilst working in the area and was tempted to pop in by the wonderful meats and pies on display. I have now tried two different pies, pork chops and pork belly, which have all been utterly delicious! The pies (coq au vin & lamb, leek and apricot) were well filled and very tasty, the chops and belly both thick and flavoursome. They also do hot pasties and sausages roll which are both just lovely, reasonably priced and perfect for lunchtime feasting. Looking forward to trying the chicken Kievs and steak next.

Google
Lidgate is exactly what you hope to find in a proper local butcher—exceptional quality, expert knowledge, and real charm. The meat is top notch every single time, from their steaks to the sausages and Sunday roast essentials. It’s so lovely to have a butcher that’s been around for years and still takes such pride in what they do. The staff are always friendly and happy to help, and you can tell they really know their craft. Shops like this are rare these days. A true gem—long may it continue!

Google
I’ve been coming to this butcher for years, but the quality of service has seriously declined. They have a tendency to give you the wrong meat – I asked for curry goat and was handed something completely different. When I raised the issue, the staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful in resolving the situation. + super unhygienic Very disappointing. I would be cautious if you choose to shop here. Shame i cant rate 0

Amazing selection of lovely pies aside from fresh meat and marinated meat. It can get really busy in the morning

Fantastic butchers with a great variety of quality meat. Lovely friendly staff, who go out of their way to make you feel seen. Big thanks to Paul and Jamie who gave me a fantastic recommendation for a meal. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
So I have lived a short walk away for so many months and never tried this place until recently. I had heard great things about this place but for whatever reason never got around to trying it out. AMAZING! I had no idea what I wanted to try as everything looked great. I asked the lady helping me which sausages were the best and a worker was putting sausages in the case said "Everything!!" He was right. Everything we tried was soooo good! We tried a bunch of different sausages, the beef bourguignon pie, and the shepherds pie. The beef bourguignon was for sure the stand out item. For the next few days my husband kept talking about the pies here because he liked them so much. Great service and wonderfully delicious products! Must try!!

Yelp
Someday I'm going to marry Oprah and I'll be a stay-at-home husband. I'll say to Oprah, "we should buy a place in Kensington/Notting Hill." And she'll look down the back of the sofa cushions and procure me a giant wad of cash to do so. And then I will spend my days grilling tasty meat snacks, procured from C Lidgate. Almost everything they sell is so meticulously prepped that all you have to do is bake/cook/grill. Or if that's too difficult, you can buy a pre-made pie. If Holly Golightly was a carnivore, she would have stalked the windows here and not Tiffany's. The fare here is presented like fine jewelry. That's why I gotta marry Oprah. It's simply uncouth for me to go in and order just a single lamb chop.

Yelp
The term "Awesome"...and certainly in lower case does not do this place justice. AWESOME!!!! - ahhh much better - I have never felt this way about a set of butchers before....it could be love....though that would be weird. The quality of the products they have is phenominal - as is the range. It can be quite dear but the price really does reflect the quality. Put it this way to celebrate a close relatves 60th birthday we opened a bottle of Dom Perignon and had a pie from this place. The pie held it's own ground. This is the place to get your Xmas or thanks giving turkeys. The sausage roles for your Sunday brunch are also very good. And as for the pies -I would eat them all...I would be fat and I would die happy - I recommend the Chicken Ham and Mushroom - hell I recommend them all....and they come in different sizes. Be warned though you do have to order them in advance. This place is a must!!! Go to their website and check out what they have to offer.

Yelp
The service at Lidgate I have been going to Lidgate for 30 years. The service used to be formal and old fashion with an occasional smile; then it became formal and cold with no smiles, eventually cold and almost unfriendly. Now it is cold, unfriendly, rude and inefficient with no eye contact what so ever and a grunted farewell-dont-ever-come-back as you are ready to pay and leave. What is the matter with the place? Is the staff beaten every hour or might it be underpaid or is it so full of itself that the rest of us mortal need to be despised and humiliated? The meat? It still has a good reputation but quite honestly there are plenty of other places by now where the meat is local, free range and organic, properly cut and delicious looking with staff that recognises you and treats you with such friendliness that you long to go back the minute you step out. So I ask myself is my chicken escalope worth Lidgate's obnoxious and uncivilised treatment?

Yelp
My wife has bought from here in the past and recommended that we get a pie from here as she had a hankering. I was stunned when I was quoted £20 for a three-portion beouf bourginon pie but thought "well, the missus must know something", ordered the pie and paid the money. When I took it to her, she was stunned that her notoriously tight-fisted hubby had spent £20 on a pie. My rationale was that if this place was as amazing as she said, it'd justify its cost. This pie was made to order at 4pm in the afternoon, fresh as a daisy and you could see where they'd brushed egg over the top of the pie. We cooked it and it smelled just amazing. I think I'd buy it again just to smell it. I was disappointed when I realised it didn't have a base but when I ate the first bite, all my disappointment subsided. When I ate the second bite, I realised that this pie was really something special. It was flavoursome with a beautiful pastry and full of filling. Pies usually skimp on the filling but this one was filled to the brim with amazing beouf bourginon. I really can't fault it, it was absolutely worth the money. I would never usually review after one good experience but this was so good that I had to write a review. I want to try a Cornish pasty but my worry is that if I do, I'll never be able to eat one anywhere else.

Yelp
For years I've been sent the Lidgate emails and drooled over all the tasty-sounding meat. Finally, for the 4th of July, I decided it was time to make the slight trek out and get some meat for the barbecue. It's not a very big place but it's full to the brim of many tasty looking things! It's a bit hard to see the things for the BBQ as they're only on display in the window. But we made our picks and came back inside and placed the order - a Jamaican chicken skewer, a steak and onion skewer, a chicken and lemongrass skewer, and a wagyu beef burger. We also got some smoked bratwurst, a chicken and olive pie for dinner another night, some veal and gruyere burgers, also for another night, and some pecan pie slices. Last night my other half endeavoured to fit all the meat on the BBQ. We were a bit disappointed in the chicken skewers, which were expensive (between £5 to £7 each) and didn't have much flavour of the marinades. But the chicken was nice! Our favourite was the steak skewer (£8) and the wagyu burger was tasty, too (around £3). The pecan pie isn't good and at £2.20 a slice, is good value but I wouldn't recommend it. Service was prompt and friendly, and our bag of food was heavy and full for about £40. The packaging though wasn't perfect - the frozen pie put at the bottom of a paper bag caused the bag to rip in about an hour, but we had another bag and it was okay in the end. They had a huge selection of sausages, which we didn't buy but we did sample some and they were really good. I think it's worth going back, but next time I'll be a bit more selective.

Yelp
Just the very best quality meat in London. Fantastic home made pies. Great condiments. Organic eggs. Goose fat. Lovely cheeses. Fresh hams. Really, all you could ask for in a butcher, old school, excellent quality and very friendly service. It is expensive....but like everything in life, you get what you pay for. You can taste every single penny worth of flavour. I definitely recommend this butcher to family and friends.

Yelp
Superb butchers. They give me free bones when they have them around (for stock). The highest quality of meats, and the pies are certainly good. I've never had the prepared stuff (marinated items), but they looks like good ways to get a quick dinner on the table. These guys are upholding a great tradition that has faded a bit as we have decided to pinch pennies over quality and good value. The minced steak is way better than anything you can get from Waitrose or Tesco. I wouldn't use anything else honestly. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is due to the gruffness you get from the staff sometimes. I'm sure they are all nice guys and gals, but they can be a bit dismissive or annoyed if you ask a lot of questions or have weird requests (the bones). I'm not sure I would even change that, as these folks are professionals and there aren't a lot around, but when I went to A. Dove and Son (my old butcher), that guy was hilarious and always friendly.

Yelp
I live in Northern British Columbia and have just returned from visiting my family in the U.K. On the day I was due to leave my sister had ordered a steak, mushroom and apricot pie from Lidgates for the sad, farewell lunch. The pie arrived at 7:30a.m.and I truly thought my sister had lost her mind never having had a pie delivered before, definitely not at this time in the morning. Welllater on when I had woken up I could not belive my eyes when I saw the pie! A huge pie and certainly it could not have been carried home. It was truly the most wonderful pie I have ever eaten!I am home now wondering how I could attempt such a pie myself..hence the googling of Lidgate!

Yelp
After shopping here for over 1 year I can offer a review,3 day a week I looked forward to great service, helpful advice from the butcher staff, meat usually good , but on 2 occasion the chicken breasts were smelly & on there way south, & with the organic eggs I found 1 black rotten egg in a box of 6 more than once, when i complained to the office staff I did not get much satisfaction, with my monthly spend over £500 I thought I was a valued customer, didn,t feel that way. Overpriced for not so great quality.

Yelp
I'm not much of a meat-eater, but when I make an exception I try to get it from Lidgate's. The prices are a lot higher than supermarkets, but so is the quality. Each visit is an experience and a trip into a long-lost time. You order at the counter, then queue to pay at the back of the shop.

Yelp
Every butcher should be like this one! The meat was so good. You can't get this stuff in supermarkets. Yes, you'll pay about double of what a major supermarket would charge, but I do highly recommend it, even if it is just for the special occasions. I had the sirloin steak and it was absolutely amazing. The service is really good. If you don't feel like cooking much, just grab one of the pies they have. I haven't tried them but they do look delicious.

Yelp
Surely this is the best butcher in Central London. Lidgate's has been around for more than a century and a half and sells seriously high quality meats - organic and free range. Try the excellent homemade sausages, pies, quiches as well as of course all the usual joints and cuts. Much is sourced from Prince Charle's Highgrove Estate. This is probably the only butcher to which it is worth making a special trip....oh and try their coq au vin - delicious!

Yelp
One of the best quality butchers around. They pretty much do everything and its all organic and free range. Yes it is expensive but as soon as you sink your teeth into that juicy slab of meat you know where your money went and that it was so worth it

Heidy M.

Yelp
Whether you love or like meat you may very well love C. Lidgate. This shop beats Whole Food's ( in London) meat counter any day. Their sausage is so full of flavor and they make their own Toulouse sausage. They also have a deli counter with real turkey and ham. Great meat and fantastic unexpected extras like slap ur mama seasoning! Perhaps not the place to go if you are on a tight budget but excellent if you have a little extra to spend or value fresh organic meat and great service.

Qype User (bugl…)

Yelp
Simply excellent quality meat and very friendly staff. Their pies make winter worth having.
