Yelp
Got here today after recomendations from friends. I had 3 tacos, Trompo, Mahi Mahi, & Carnitas. I ordered Trompo, I let the waitress choose the other 2 for me. I had a bottle of Tamarindo and chips/salsa (they were all out of most of the the other appetizers).
This was Sunday, post-church. There was a large family there, about 10-15 @ 1 table. They seemed obnoxiously Texan, so I ate outside. Eating outside went well, but by taco #3, the flies swarmed in.
The chips/Salsa were great-although the salsa was just 2 of those tiny jello-shot cups, so it didn't last. Still, good salsa- a little too watery for me, but plenty of cilantro. I would have liked more, a 1/2 cup, at least. Good, thin chips.
Tacos ranged from good to great. Mahi-Mahi was a little dry, but came with plenty of sauce to counter that. Carnitas was also good.
Trompo was amazing- maybe SLIGHTLY heavy on the pineapple, making a little TOO sweet, but this will be my go-to taco whenever I eat @ C Rojo's. And I will be eating @ C Rojo's again.
Overall, I dig the place. Here are the pros/cons-
PROS- -FOOD. Lack of decor, so the focus is on the food. And it shows!
-Ingredients seem REALLY fresh. Maybe that's why certain apptizer
were off the menu?
-Decent sized tacos. 3 tacos w/ an appetzer or chips/salsa is plenty.
-right off the I-20, plenty of parking.
-inside/outside dining. I really dug the outside seating, but flies!
-Food was Fast. Crazy fast. Almost TOO fast. I wanted to relax on the
patio for a bit, but the food came too fast for that!
CONS- -Needs more (thicker) salsa for the chips.
-Lack of decor. Yes, it's a pro too, but inside/outside need about
$2000 worth of decor. If they turned the right half of this place into a
bar, it would liven the place up.
-Lack of decor 2- likewise, outside dining overlooks old food trucks &
broken down stuff. Hide that stuff and improve the view.
-Needs a better online presence.
This place is on the verge of being 'discovered', so check it out if you're nearby. So much potential! Like the first Torchy's or something. If you're nearby, it's worth skipping Posados/Cinco de Mayo in Lindale and driving here.
As for me, I am just glad Lindale-area finally has a good MX place without having to drive into Tyler. IMO, Cinco de Mayo is Blah, and Posados is good but your typical gringo MX place. It's C Rojo's for me from now on.
