14 Best Bakeries in San Jose and the South Bay Area | Eater SF

"Family-owned CA Bakehouse in San Jose is notorious for creative takes on Asian-inspired pastries. The shop was initially known as Le Monde, which opened in 1996 and became infamous among locals for popularizing the pandan green waffle. Customers rave about the honeycomb cake, a simple Vietnamese pastry with a chewy texture and a subtle pandan flavor. CA Bakehouse also offers classic staples, like Portuguese egg tarts with dough that’s laminated multiple times to garner an extra crispy outer shell. Of course, they still serve the pandan green waffle with the same recipe from decades ago." - Cathy Park

Google
TLDR: gave us old pastries that weren’t fresh We got the pandan croissant and the croissant was a waste of calories, it was stale and barely any flakiness at all. The Same thing for the sesame cookie, flavor was not good and it was old. They don’t let you into the shop so you can’t even see the pastries and items at all. Would not recommend

Love coming to Little Saigon for this spot. Once they open their doors, they have a line already. The quality is soooooooo good here. I’ve never had an egg tart as dense and rich as they make it here. They are huge! You can’t go wrong with anything here. I usually go with the egg tarts (all flavors) and the Vietnamese cookie. The prices are great here, so TREAT YO SELF.

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time now, but haven't gotten the chance til now since it's only open in the afternoon from Thursday to Sundays. There was a short line when we got here around 2pm on a Saturday, but the line moved super quickly with 2 employees taking orders and another 2 serving orders. This place is togo only, and they'll give you a nice box and plastic bag to hold your pastries so that they don't get crushed. I got the ube croissant and durian egg tart. They gave me a durian choux by accident but were nice to still give me the egg tart afterwards. The ube croissant was huge and flaky. The ube cream wasn't super sweet and not overwhelmingly thick. Meanwhile, the durian egg tart and choux definitely tasted strongly of durian, and I especially liked the durian cream inside of the choux.

Google
My favorite is mochi cake, very delicious! Pandan cake is just like the one I had in Singapore, very soft and delicious! The difficulty is that it is difficult to park on weekends. I recommended to order online, and it only takes 15 minutes to pick up.

Shirlene K.

Google
We got the honeycomb cake, chiffon cake, pandan egg tarts, mochi cakes, and kaya choux. We ordered online to pick up. I'd highly suggest it so you don't have to wait in line and go to the pick up line instead. But if you want the waffle, you'd have to go in line since it's not available in the online menu. Might've been too hyped up and expected too much from it. Honeycomb cake: smaller than expected for one piece (might've been 6 inch pan divided into 6 pieces). This was pretty good and good bouncy texture. Chiffon cake: not much pandan flavor but it was super fluffy and moist. I enjoyed it even though it wasn't flavorful. Pandan egg tart: tasted like a regular egg tart. I've had better egg tarts elsewhere. Mochi cakes: guava filled was a bit of a miss, the guava filling was at the bottom of the muffin. Although good flavor, it was odd to have to flip it upside down. The banana version tasted like a banana nut muffin but with mochi muffin texture. Kaya choux: agreeing with other reviews. The choux itself missed the mark. Was almost like it was stale? The kaya custard inside was delicious and I would totally eat that by itself. Overall: I'd stop by if we're nearby within 10 minutes drive but I wouldn't make a special trip otherwise. Nothing was a must get or casts that "I'm craving for this" spell.

Google
Delicious baked goods and with traditional Asian flavours like ube, pandam, and tea. Service is fast and food runners are quick. When I went there, employees took your order at the front. You weren't able to enter the store and I wish they had like one of each of the pastries displayed at the front window or at the counter where you order so you could see them. The baked goods were 4/5 fillings were good, but bread bits were okay. The ube croissant was more of a bready croissant than a crispy one. The crust for the tart wasn't super flakey and the filling was firm. Flavors were fantastic and sweetness was balanced. Will be back to try their milk breads though.

Google
Stumbled upon this place awhile back and definitely miss the pastries! This bakery is small, but it offers a lot of delicious options from egg tarts to honeycomb cake (my favorite). There were two people working there when I visited and they were super friendly. Would definitely come back to try out their other goodies!

Google
Delicious and quick bakery items! The pandan waffle was made on the spot and came out steaming hot, it was crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside, perfectly delicious! My friend also got the pandan croissant and we also fetched some creamy, flavorful egg tarts. Everything for a great price! Highly recommend :)

Yelp
CA Bakehouse is this tiny bakery in the main Little Saigon plaza. You order on the tablet outside and they call your name when your order is ready; there's no seating or anything and it's meant to be quick and casual. Don't let the long line deter you because it goes by fast! Hours are pretty limited so there will almost always be a line if you're going on a weekend. Onto the pastries! Portuguese egg tart: amazing! The perfect hybrid of a Chinese and Portuguese egg tart because it's not too sweet like a Chinese egg tart but still has the amazing flakiness of a Portuguese egg tart. Kaya egg tart: bright green and had an amazing coconutty pandan vanilla flavor. This may have been lifechanging for me. I'm not even that big of an egg tart fan to begin with. Honeycomb cake: my friend had said this was a nostalgic sweet treat for her and I can see why it'd be comforting. Simple and chewy and lightly sweetened. Very good! Slices are quite small though for the $3.50 price. Will be coming back for more for sure!

Yelp
3.5 STARS ca bakehouse is a to-go bakery that usually has a really long line on the weekends, and i wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. i always order for pickup to avoid the line - just keep in mind that there are some items you have to order at least the day before. the bakery is located in very busy vietnam town, so it can be hard to get parking nearby sometimes. they have a really extensive menu with unique items! - egg tart (3.5/5): it had a great sweet and creamy custard, but it was doughy and soft instead of crispy and flaky. i didn't mind the texture too much because the flavor was there - kaya egg tart (4/5): very slight coconut flavor and overall very light. i liked this one more than the regular egg tart because the flavor was unique - banana mochi cake (4/5): this reminded me of a banana nut muffin but with mochi! it had a good fresh banana flavor. i loved the soft, chewy mochi texture, although it was almost too mushy. the nuts would've been better if they were crunchy, but they were still a nice addition - guava mochi cake (4.5/5): one of my favorite items here! it had a tart and sweet guava filling, which balanced out the sweetness of the pastry and icing on top. it was still on the softer end, but i liked this one more than the banana mochi cake - kaya croissant (3/5): i thought the croissant would be soggy because of the filling, but it was actually kind of chewy and dry - maybe overbaked. i loved the yummy kaya filling, and it wasn't too sweet. i actually think it could've used more filling. it was very aromatic! - ube croissant (3.5/5): similar to the kaya croissant but with a sweet and slightly earthy ube filling instead. i enjoyed the filling because i could really taste the ube! like the other one, i thought the croissant was too dry and needed more filling - black sesame choux (1/5): probably the worst item i tried. the black sesame wasn't very sweet. there was barely black sesame flavor, and it had a bit of a bitter aftertaste. also, the choux wasn't crunchy... it was soft and mushy, and it broke at the bottom where the filling was spilling out - durian choux (2.5/5): i loved the filling, which was at the perfect sweetness. it had a strong durian flavor, but the choux pastry itself had similar issues to the black sesame - pandan macadamia cookie (3.5/5): it had a very light pandan flavor, which i thought could've been stronger. i really love soft cookies, but this was weirdly soft and fell apart - almost like it wasn't fully baked. the macadamia nuts on top were a nice touch - black sesame cookie (4/5): tasted just like a peanut butter cookie! it had a strong nutty flavor, more like peanut butter than black sesame. my favorite part was the center, which had more of a sesame flavor because of the sesame seeds. just like the other cookie, it was very soft - honeycomb cake (3/5): this had a stronger pandan flavor than the cookie, which was great! i just didn't like the texture as much as other honeycomb cakes because it was less chewy and more mushy - pandan basque cheesecake (4.5/5): the BEST menu item i've tried, and i would come back just to get this. the cheesecake was very creamy and relatively dense, even for basque cheesecake. it had a slight pandan flavor, which could've been stronger, and caramelization on the sides. the green looked so pretty! i'm not really that picky with textures, but everything is just on the soft and sometimes mushy end, except for the croissants, which are weirdly dry. i actually enjoy a lot of the flavors, so i do see the appeal. i just don't think i would come back often.

Yelp
My first visit to this packed bakery was quite overwhelming due to the ordering process. Since customers are blocked from going inside, the bakery uses a small table setup for to-go orders. There was no clear line, and people with tablets seemed to be taking orders randomly. Complicating matters, many people were just crowding the entrance waiting for their online pickups. Because we weren't allowed inside, it was difficult to see the offerings, and the menu was just text with no images, making it hard to know exactly what I was ordering. Despite the chaos, the staff was able to pump out my order very quickly, and the pastries were quite delicious. I would come back, and now that I'm more familiar with their system, I expect the experience will be a lot less overwhelming.

Yelp
best item would be pandan chiffon cake (not pictured) and i'd say everything else is honestly mid. i tried this place like 3x and all 3x i hold the same opinion.

Yelp
CA Bakehouse has been consistently good for years now!! They have perfected their pandan flavored pastries and I highly recommend you try any one of them. Our favorites are the green waffle (of course), the guava mochi cake, Kaya Choux, and the honeycomb cake. Everything else we have tried has also been good, like their croissants and cookies. The only downside is sometimes they will send coupons and they won't work (even before they expire) but the price is reasonable so it isn't an issue at all!

Yelp
CA Bakehouse is a great option if you're looking for Asian-inspired treats without the intense waits of the more hyped Bay Area/SF spots. Their specialization in Asian flavors is the main draw. The Pandan and Ube croissants, mochi cakes, egg tarts, and various cream puffs are all delicious and offer unique tastes you won't find at a traditional patisserie. You can also walk out with a box full of pastries for a fraction of what you'd pay elsewhere. The pastry technique doesn't quite rival some popular Bay Area/SF bakeries, but for a quick, convenient, and very affordable treat, this place cannot be beaten. The low price point makes it an easy indulgence. I've also found the lines move quickly, and there's not too much hassle involved. It's great for grabbing a weekend box of goodies or a quick afternoon snack.

Yelp
Heard all about the durian egg tarts, but it was just okay. The durian is all right, but the egg tart felt doughy instead of crispy. The choux wasn't great either, the texture of the filling was not what we expected and it didn't taste like much. It's takeout only and you can't go inside. But it's convenient and cheap if you just want a quick snack I guess since they don't need to prepare it. There's a nice sign outside showcasing what there is, but it would've been nice to see all the real items labeled instead

Yelp
If you haven't been to CA Bakehouse before, it's definitely a must try. Lines can get pretty long on the weekends, so be prepared to wait! Located in Vietnam Town in SJ, parking can also be a bit tough. I love their egg tarts especially as a durian lover, the durian egg tart is a standout and is super unique. Their pandan waffles are also delicious! The shop itself is pretty tiny and they do take out only.

Yelp
This Vietnamese bakery bakes up unique baked goods that's not typically found at other bakeries. The hours are impractical for a bakery though. Most bakeries are usually the 1st businesses to open everyday, but this bakery is the last to open in this entire Vietnamese strip mall. They open at 12pm 1. Original Green Waffle (3.5/5) The green color is from pandan leaves. The waffles were a bit too thin and soggy/floppy in my opinion. Takes 15-20 minute to make 2. Portuguese Pandan Flavor Egg Tarts (3.5/5) The crust was a bit hard. I prefer the flaky ones. The inside custard part was too thick and gelatin like. It was also lacking the pandan flavor. Because it's supposed to be pandan flavor, it also masks the usual eggy flavor of the traditional egg tarts 3. Choux Pastry (4/5) This is similar to cream puffs, but with a unique twist in that they top the outside shell of the puffs with a layer of almond crunch, which I liked as it gives it additional crunch and texture. They have a variety of flavors ranging from Kaya (Pandan), Black Sesame, Ube, Hojicha and Durian. The ube flavor was strong, but slightly artificial tasting. At least it was not overly sweet. The hojicha flavor was robust with the roasted tea flavor. 4. Pandan Croissant (4.5/5) Kudos for the idea of Pandan flavored croissants. I like both so the pairing caught my attention. The croissant was a bit dry. They slice the top of the croissant to add the custard filling. The pandan flavored custard was fragrant enough to be pleasant and light, while not being overwhelmingly sweet. Appreciate the business for throwing in 2 free cookies with my order. Overall, I would give a 3.5/5, but for this kind gesture, I am rounding up.

Yelp
Parking can be challenging at times, but well worth the effort to come here. CA Bakehouse is one of my mandatory stops when I'm in the area, and if they're open. They have limited opening hours so check before you head here. So many good options here, pandan waffles obviously are one of the items you must get. Currently my favorite item are the pandan cookies. If there's any when you get there... just get it. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
One of my favorite Asian bakeries in the Bay Area and for many others as well, as the long lines show. Be sure to order online for pickup at least a day ahead to avoid those long lines! Parking can be difficult in this always busy plaza, but you can park in those loading zone only spots for quick pickups. I always love their Egg Tarts, but lately my favorite item is their Vietnamese Coffee Cookies. Big and thin with tons of deep offee flavor. Also keep on mind they have very limited open days and hours.

Yelp
I come here for the egg tarts, both regular and Kaya. I usually order online and then pick up (as opposed to waiting in line in person and then waiting for my order), since their system is very easy to navigate! It's located in Little Saigon, so parking can be a little crazy to find. I've also tried their honeycomb cake, mochi cakes, and have been generally very happy with all their flavors and textures! This is a pick up only bakery, so don't expect to come here and eat your pastries.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Honeycomb cake is a must! You need to get there early because they sell out FAST! There is no seating inside nor indoor dining. Service is quick!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
I tried a slice of the honeycomb cake during a previous visit and I kicked myself for not getting an entire cake! Well I'm back and I got an entire jiggly cake to bring home. Cheers to me!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered online was best because they don't let you in to look and order. The have registers at door and you pick up or order there. Pretty busy. Very yummy pastries.
google avatar

Yelp
Was in the area and so glad I stopped in to grab a few items. Loved the ube croissant and the guava and banana walnut mochi cake. My favorite was the ube croissant as it was perfect and the cream filling wasn't too sweet. I will definitely be back to try the other items. Parking was a challenge as I came on a Saturday. I was bummed we don't really get to see the items as you have to order by the door and they don't allow anyone into the store. Staff were friendly.

Yelp
HOURS UPDATE: Starting 7/10/2025, they will be closed on Thursdays due to construction. - 4.8: kaya croissant. Perfect crust and interior goop. - 4.7: Kaya cram puff. Discard half the goop. The goop is very salty. But coating is great. ** 4.6: Banh Bo: Update: Once it was severely under-cooked, and almost dripping. I should have asked for a refund. But normally, it's a 4.6/5. - 4.6: egg tart. Not as good as Sheng Kee. - 4.5: Pandan chiffon cake. Very light. Lightly flavored. - 4.3: Pandan milk bread. It's like a parker house roll, with pandan filling inside. - 2.0: mochi cake. Dry.
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful staff. I had placed an online order and was going to be about 15 mins late for pick-up past their open hours. When I called the store before heading out, the young man was very considerate and told me he would leave the door open and I could just pick my order up directly. I really appreciate the kind gesture. Upon entry, this is a grab and go kind of place. Brightly-lit ambiance. Efficient staff. Parking is abundant unless you come at peak dining times. As for the bakery itself, this was my first time trying the baked goods here. I got a mochi muffin, honeycomb cake, and a kaya puff pastry. While the mochi muffin was very good, the pandan flavor and color in the honeycomb and kaya pastries tasted very.. artificial? Also the kaya tasted way more like pandan than actual kaya, which is originally stronger in coconut flavor and dark yellow in color. So that was misleading. Regardless, I would still come back here for their mochi muffins and perhaps try a few other things next time.
google avatar

Mary Grace F.

Yelp
Sweets were great and yummy! I wouldn't recommend going there towards closing time because they maybe sold out of their best selling sweets. I was here the day before and had to go back the next day! Service was also great, staff was kind and helpful. Pandan cookie and guava mochi is a must! I also like their almond crumb cookie, all was delish! My kids love their pandan waffles they say is the best. Orders taken outside their door easy peasy =)

Yelp
I've been working near this bakery for years and heard so many good things, but I never got to try unless recently. I went to vn town plaza to get matcha and pastries with my friend who came from out of town who likes this place. They're currently doing renovations inside the bakery, so ordering system is either you order online to pick up or you order at the window with the cashier. There were menus posted on the windows and where the cashier is so you can see what you want to order. By the time we ended up deciding what to order, there was a line forming. We ordered the honeycomb cake, egg tarts (durian, regular and pandan), almond cookies and chocolate chip cookies. The honeycomb cake wasn't too sweet which I prefer and it was still soft a couple days later when I finished it. The egg tarts tasted like how I assumed it would. I wished for the durian egg tarts tasted that there was more of the durian flavor, but I mainly tasted egg and the custard. The cookies were so soft here, but my boyfriend said it was decent because it tasted like they used a lot of baking soda. I would come here again to try the croissants because apparently, that's what all my friends told me I should've gotten instead. So I will be back here for a redo next time my friend is back in town.

Yelp
I pass by this place every time I go to Tastea but I never came in. The other day I decided to come in to take a look at their pastries and WOW I have been missing out. I came in around 4pm on a Thursday afternoon. They had a pretty good selections but I'm not sure if their selection is wider if I came in earlier. I decided on the durian choux which is like a cream puff. A durian custard cream puff is what the choux pastry reminded me of. I was so excited and surprise to see "durian" anything. The lady recommended I also get the durian egg tart..which I was delighted to get. I think she saw how excited I was when I saw the durian choux that she told me to get the egg tart too. The egg tart didn't have a sign saying "durian egg tart" so I'm glad she recommended it to me. I also decided on a Vietnamese coffee cookie. I loveeeeeeee the durian choux!!! I could eat a lot of those in one seating. The egg tart was okay..but in their defense I am not really an egg tart kind of person but I just wanted to try it since it was durian. If you like egg tart and you like durian you will definitely like this. The Vietnamese coffee cookie..it was sweet but bitter. I don't like bitter..so I didn't like it..BUT if you don't like really sweet desserts you would enjoy this cookie..honestly it tasted like a Vietnamese coffee. DUH!!! I will come back here for more durian choux and hopefully try some of their other goodies. I wonder if they have a durian cookie..I will ask next time I come here. 5/5 stars for their durian choux pastry. While the other pastries I got was not my cup or tea..I'm sure if someone else who liked egg tart or not so sweet desserts would enjoy it.

Yelp
Came a bit too late in the day and they didn't have much stock left! Tried the mochi cake and the kaya egg tart. Kaya egg tart didn't have much fragrance or flavor of kaya - crust was flaky and nice. Mochi cake was a bit dry, dense and buttery. Will need to come back to try the other goodies.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
Asian flavors galore! Think pandan, black sesame, ube.. fun for your eyes and taste buds. Have tried few of their croissants and choux pastries and all excellent. Don't sleep on the pandan coconut milk bread! Packed with flavor. Haven't tried the banh bo (honeycomb cake), chiffon cake, and basque cheesecake but they look bombbb. Given the soaring cost of butter and eggs and everything, I find this place has still remained really affordable in the age of $7 croissants. There's usually a bit of a wait but not bad. You can pre-order online. They take orders at the door, you can't really go in and peruse the selection which is a bummer. Parking can be wild there despite how big the lot is.

Yelp
Saw lots of TikToks about CA Bakehouse so had to see what all the hype is about! We came here on a Sunday around 2:30pm. Located in Little Saigon, this area was very crowded so it took us time to find parking. There is no seating so we took everything to go. We decided to get a variety of items: guava mochi cake, Kaya croissant, Ube + Taro croissant, hojicha tea choux, Portuguese egg tart, Portuguese egg tart without cinnamon and powder, and kaya egg tart. My personal favorite was the guava mochi cake! The guava tasted very fresh and sweet. This was delicious! The kaya croissant and Ube+Taro croissant were both filled generously, however the flavor of the filling was too subtle - to the point where I could not really taste the kaya and Ube/taro. Similarly, the egg tarts didn't have much flavor. The filling in the hojicha choux was too strong for us. I am not a big hojicha fan so I didn't enjoy this but if you like the flavor, you would probably like this dessert. I'm glad I finally got to try CA Bakehouse. The desserts looked very aesthetic and the flavor choices were interesting, but the flavors were hit or miss for us (either too strong or barely there). Parking was also difficult to find so I am unsure if I would come back - maybe would get the guava filled mochi if I was in the area. Overall, I would give CA Bakehouse a 3.5 rounding down to 3.

Yelp
I recently visited this Vietnamese bakery, known for its original green pandan bread. Their selection is broad and the items I've tried are quite tasty. One challenge, though, is ordering if you're not familiar with what they offer. There are no pictures, just a board with the item names, and customers aren't allowed inside to see the selection--probably a practice that started after COVID. But how would you know what's freshly available? That's the missing link between the customer and the store. After a few visits and some trial and error, I finally found items I enjoy. Checking Yelp photos beforehand definitely helps when ordering here.

Yelp
The egg tart wasn't too sweet and creamy. I really enjoyed the crispy crust. The hojicha choux was my first time trying hojicha flavored pastry and I liked it! had so much filling and hojicha flavor had a smoky taste, very authentic.
google avatar

Sandy Q.

Yelp
For a quick snack, we ordered 3 cream puffs (Kaya, black sesame & hojicha) and a Kaya croissant. I had high hopes for this place since there's always a line here. Unfortunately, the food is just mediocre. The cream puffs were soggy (most likely from the filling), the fillings lacked sweetness and the top crust was salty. The only thing I liked was the croissant. It was buttery and flaky and the filling had the perfect amount of sweetness.

Yelp
Saw this in ig the last time I was in San fransisco. So i told myself I will visit this place when i come back. So here I am. I got there just 30 minutes before they close for the day. TheTuesday the next two days, on Monday and tuesday. You can't go in. You can order with the lady by the door and pay. Most of the stuff already sold out. I tried: Kaya egg tart - could use stronger flavor of kaya, but i love the crispy texture Mochi cake - sweetness is perfect, but could be more chewy.

Yelp
I'm definitely the unpopular opinion when it comes to CA Bakehouse. Maybe Asian desserts aren't my fave but items ordered were decent. Sister loves her pandan desserts and asked me to pick up items with pandan ("Asian-vanilla") usually accompanied by coconut milk: :: Pandan Macadamia Cookie - these were okay and not much to rave about as far as flavor but it was a nice soft, chewy cookie with taste of macadamia :: Bánh Bò Nướng (honeycomb cake) - chewy, airy from the use of tapioca flour...if you like mochi you'll love this cake. Sadly, it wasn't for me...its a texture thing and to me, didn't have much flavor :: Kaya and Durian Egg Tart - family enjoyed these brightly-colored tarts. Crust nice and flaky. Wish I had purchased a simple Portuguese tart to try. Overall, i wasn't a fan but sister was happy with her #1 request of the honeycomb cake with the bouncy texture and pandan flavors. Other family members enjoyed but I felt like my 7- year old niece "I just taste GREEN"....EXACTLY! Also picked up orders for a friend and she thought items were 'ok'. The owner who handed me my order was very friendly and nice. After ordering about $150 worth of items, I forgot to add a pandan waffle to eat for the ride home... I asked if it was okay to order ONE item....the young worker said I would have to move over to the ORDERING line (10 people) and wait. SMH. It wasn't like I was ordering 10 more items.....almost had a New Jersey Housewife moment and flip the table....okay, only in my head! Place is set up for pickup/ordering at the door vs perusing in the bakery. Best to order online and pickup to minimize the wait. Saturday pickup was fine as i have good parking karma and scored a spot in front but it's a bit chaotic exiting (101, Story Road) the freeway (11:30 am) with parking being a challenge and a bit frenetic.

Yelp
This is a solid bake shop with some really great goodies! My favorite is the honeycomb cake, it's moist and delicious! The flavor is wonderful and really worth the price! The mochi cake is really nice as well, be ft chewy and sweet. The pandan milk buns are good, but really filling. The choux and egg tarts were alright. We usually order online for pick up and it's much easier than standing in the long line. The only downside is that they are only open at noon. Definitely worth trying!

Yelp
This bakery is more of an order and pickup place as you cannot walk in and browse to look at pastries. Lines are usually long on weekends so I opt to order ahead online through their website (also available in third party apps). I tried their egg tart, Kaya egg tart, choux pastry, and mochi cake. Kaya egg tart was light in favor (barely noticeable) but still good. My favorite was their normal egg tart - while the crust was flakey and more dense, tart was overall still delicious. Mochi cake was standard, choux pastry I could've definitely skipped (didn't love the pastry but filling was good). Overall place was good. Plaza it's located is busy and may be hard to find parking on weekends!

Yelp
Fresh Asian flavored pastries! Pandan egg tart and Portuguese egg tart was yum! Winner here for me was their cassava cake. Their pandan croissant custard was solid. Croissant could use a little bit more fluffiness - a bit hard/not as fresh as other croissants I've had. They rotate their menu, but their egg tarts are always there. Quick order and pick up. The shop doesn't let you in at the moment. You just order at their door.

Yelp
Love coming to Little Saigon for this spot. Once they open their doors, they have a line already. The quality is soooooooo good here. I've never had an egg tart as dense and rich as they make it here. They are huge! You can't go wrong with anything here. I usually go with the egg tarts (all flavors) and the Vietnamese cookie. The prices are great here, so TREAT YO SELF.

Yelp
I was in the area for an event and was wanted to pickup some Asian desserts to take back home, given I had plenty of bookmarks around San Jose and this was one of them. I'd previously come here to find out they were closed. It's in a large Vietnamese shopping/dining mall in San Jose. It was really crowded on a Sunday after New Year's and finding parking was tough for a bit, we eventually got a spot after waiting a bit. There was a line, they're obviously super popular. The baked items were coming fresh out. I was confused for a while with all the options, especially because I wanted to have both kayo and ube, and also the egg tart. I eventually settled on getting a Portuguese egg tart and a kayo (pandan custard) croissant. My friend got the guava mochi. I gulped both desserts down immediately after getting home. They were both great, I can't pick one over the other. It's easy to see why the kaya croissant is a bestseller, it's was light, fresh, and the right amount of sweet for sure. I've had pandan flavored desserts before and this was certain up there with them. Egg tart was fluffy and filling! It was light in terms of flavor without a strong egg flavor for me. Good value for money for both in my opinion.

Yelp
Thanks to the many awesome recommendations and pics from fellow yelpers, we came by to check this place out. We didn't realize they were near closing and we saw their coconut buns and honeycomb cakes hot and fresh from the oven. I wanted to try their croissants and egg tarts but the 2 ladies there said they're all sold out and about to close. (Thats when we realized they were closing and we happened to walk in as they were prepping to close). They were nice enough to still sell us the buns and honeycomb cake as we said we literally just got there from SoCal! I will say...perhaps we never had these literally fresh out of the oven in LA and why they were sooo deliciously soft and fluffy but they were still just as good as the moment we bought them the next day!! One of the best I ever had!! Oh I will miss delicious morsels n will get definitely get a few more if i ever go back to visit NorCal! Alongside the egg tarts and all the other items next time!! Or perhaps, they can open one is SoCal one day! Place was clean and nice. Service was great and parking was plentiful. A bit costly in my opinion but totally worth it!!

Yelp
CA Bakehouse has a stand out Portuguese egg tart and everything else I've had here was average to fine. Definitely still swinging by for the egg tart and be prepared to wait on the weekend, but the line moves fairly quickly. Parking is pretty packed Pandan Choux Bun (2.5/5): Once again, the choux bun was super soggy, which is unfortunately the entire cream puff experience. Cream was solid enough, but nothing to write home about. Portuguese Egg Tart (4.5/5): Super creamy custard, definitely the best filling I've had so far. The crust this time around wasn't quite as flaky as I remember, but this spot is certainly still worth swinging by just for these. Pandan Honeycomb Cake (2.75/5): I personally didn't love the texture - it felt a little too wet and I wanted it to be more of a bouncy / chewy texture.

Yelp
This shop is located in a busy strip mall, so parking can be tricky. It's also very popular, there was a line but you can also preorder for pick up. I've been excited to try this bakery with many treats with an Asian flare. However, it was a little overhyped and the flavors fell a little flat. Ordered a variety: choux, pandan egg tarts, mochi cake and pandan cookies. The choux was too soft, and Hojicha flavor didn't taste like it at all and we couldn't finish it. The best thing we ate was the pandan cookie.

Yelp
Asian fusion bakery that likes to play with Asian flavors like pandan and Kaya. I got an assortment to bring home to SoCal with me. This location is in Viet Town and is very close to the San Jose airport. The pastries were deliciously unique in their own way. Try them with a pot of jasmine tea. Different from the ordinary and good to try. Parking is available around the center. Casual. Please come and create your own experience.

Yelp
Parking is always a bit difficult to find in this area. We came here around 1:30pm on Saturday and it was pretty crowded outside the store with a short line. We got a Portuguese egg tart, Kaya egg tart, ube croissant, hojicha choux, and espresso cookie. We enjoyed all of the pastries, and the espresso cookie and ube croissant were my favorite. The two egg tarts didn't seem to have much of a difference in flavor. I'd come back again to try other items!

Yelp
I honestly really like CA Bakehouse, and their pastries! It's a cute pick up type of situation, so there's no seating. I'd recommend already knowing what you want to order because the line can move fairly quickly. I bought the Portuguese Egg Tart and Pandan Choux, and both were so flavorful and fresh. The outer part was soft, and the fillings for both were not too sweet either.

Yelp
This bakery is a hidden gem. It's similar to 85 degrees but cheaper prices. The Pandan milk bread is so good and they give you a whole loaf that looks like green Hawaiian bread. You can't go wrong with any of the desserts. The durian is even good and doesn't smell because it's baked in.

Yelp
Overall, good desserts but i wish they all had stronger flavors. - Portugese egg tart: 5/5 no notes - Durian egg tart: 2/5 wish there was more durian flavor - Kaya croissant 4/5 Wish there was more kaya flavor in the croissant itself, but the custard inside was very good - Durian craquelin cream puff 2/5: the filling was a durian custard filling felt a bit too thick, too overcooked. WIsh there was a stronger durian flavor. Although the regular egg tart was the best item I got from CA bakehouse, there are better and cheaper places to get them at.

Yelp
I tried several times to go to this place and finally made it last Sat. I ordered a bit of everything out of the menu. The famous pandan waffle was just ok. What really stood out was the basque cheese cake. I was very skeptical in the beginning. But it turned out to be the best I have ever had. It was very light and not overloaded with sugar. The texture was complex too with a little bit of crisp on the edge and cake-like texture and creamy in the inside. It is a must have.

Yelp
The honeycomb pandan cake is enough to warrant 5 stars. The most buttery squishy cake. I always think to myself if I can brave the traffic and parking situation at viet town to get some more. The guava mochi cake was also phenomena! We walked in at closing time and the ladies had already packaged everything up. Luckily they were willing to sell to us anyway. It kinda felt like I was at a stall in Vietnam cuz they were all trying to get me to buy more than I bargained for. And I'm do glad they did cuz I came home with a bounty! If only I could get down there more often, I would. These ladies know how to bake!

Yelp

Yelp
CA Bakehouse has a variety of pastries and baked goods with Asian-inspired flavors like Durian, Pandan, Ube, and more! They're a popular spot and there was a line formed outside the shop. Next time, we'll order online beforehand. We ordered the Kaya Croissant, Kaya Egg Tart, Portuguese Egg Tart, and Pandan Cake. I only tried the Kaya Egg Tart since I also got some food from TP Bao 5, but my siblings said they enjoyed the other pastries as well. I definitely would come back to try more of their pastries and drinks too!

Yelp
There was a little bit of a wait on Saturday when we went, maybe 15ish minutes. Their prices are good & baked goods are so good. I do wish they put a little more cream in their croissants as they are pretty big & the corners don't have any cream. The banana mochi muffin was so good. I'd get that again, texture and taste all hit the spot. Not too sweet too.

Yelp
Service: We were able to place and receive our order quickly. Someone took our order at the door on the tablet. When our order was ready, someone brought out a box of warm egg tarts. Food: We only ordered their Kaya and Durian egg tarts. I would pass on the Kaya tarts - they didn't really taste like pandan at all despite the vibrant green color. The durian tart was very intense in flavor and is worth a try if you like durian. I'd like to try their other pastries, especially their choux (cream puffs) and croissants.

Yelp
The funny thing about this place is that I've never physically been at the location just because of the horror stories that I hear about the parking and lines when people go. Unfortunately, I am able to rave about the location HOWEVER, I can speak to their food since I order from them on DoorDash pretty frequently LOL My favorite thing to order are their egg Tarts, pandan waffle batter, and the croissants. I've never had an issue with delivery other than once I open the box, you get this amazing aroma of the baked goods. I do want to see the physical store, and maybe I'll update my review by then. Just make sure to check their business hours before going.
