15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"What started as a sugar shack serving 20 people at a time in 1941 has grown to include a candy factory and microbrewery, too. Situated in a gorgeous cabin northeast of the city, Constantin is one of the more popular sugar shack destinations surrounding Montreal. This season, it’s operating until April 24, serving up an all-you-can-eat menu of smoked pork jowls, pouding chômeur, sausages, and eggs cooked in maple syrup. They also offer vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and egg-free options. Prices range from $26 to $33." - JP Karwacki

We went at 10am and it was a little quiet and lacking atmosphere. But they were getting ready for a special weekend with a DJ! Guess we went a little early! The food was very good. The omelette was great. Ham is the best. The pancakes, I probably could eat every day! Service was good too. They bring small amounts at a time and bring more with a smile and quickly. Leads to less waste. They gave us milk upon request. Their 'tire d'érable' was probably the best I've had. Their pricing is very reasonable too. They have a cute little farm with animals and some walking trails. I will go back.

Food is good. Same as any other cabane à sucre. The service was great Sarah and her mom were very nice and friendly. I like the farm animals and rustic atmosphere.

We visited this sugar shack on the 2nd of April 2023, it was pretty packed, but the service and food were really good. It was my first time at a sugar shack, the servers were really nice and friendly while they attended every table with groups of 20-25 people, they also went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. The food was really good, it was a very interesting culturally rich experience, as this is a very Québécois thing to do. The food consisted of fried eggs, baked beans in lard, deep fried salted pork rinds, sausages fried in maple syrup, pea soup (my personal favorite), baked ham, fried crepes, sugar pie and most importantly the maple taffy. I’d absolutely recommend everyone to try this place as it was very interesting to learn about the Québécois culture and to try Québécois food while being surrounded by wilderness and wildlife.

Nothing is homemade with the exception of preserves. Will most likely not return there.

Have been going to Constantin Grégoire for 20+ years - the food has been consistent and delicious over the years. Generous portions, friendly servers, and decent prices. The meal includes: Pickled onions Beets Pickles Homemade fruity ketchup Pea soup Creton + warm bread buns Hot dogs in syrup Eggs Ham Fèves au lard Potatoes Oreilles de crisse (pork rinds) Fried crepes Sugar pie Coffee Followed by endless tire outside - none of that one stick per person silliness you get elsewhere. There are also horse carriage rides, a small animal farm, a playground for small kids, and music and dancing in a separate hall.

We had reservations for 11AM but only ended up getting seated at 1:00PM. Food was mostly good. Beans were undercooked and crunchy but rest was ok. Not worth the wait
