Fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean! Very busy but still enjoyable and we were able to take our photos by the Monument showing we were at the furthest west point of the European continent. Enjoyable safe walk (keeping to the rules) along the cliff tops.

Google
It's an endless, elusive feeling to stand at the westernmost point of Europe. The view is beautiful, definitely worth a visit. Buses run frequently, and there are places to shop, eat and drink not far from the lookout. It's also worth taking a walk along the hilly slopes to the Ursa beach (just to the top of the hill), from where the view is even more spectacular. However, this path is not paved, so be careful in very windy weather.

Great place to visit for a unique experience. Insane winds and highly unpredictable weather aside, it’s a great place to take in the very special feeling of being on the westernmost point in continental Europe. Great views with a small gift shop and WC nearby. Make sure you bring a jacket here.

Visiting Cabo da Roca on a Sunday afternoon, leading into the evening, is nothing short of an extraordinary encounter with nature at its most dramatic. Situated at the westernmost point of continental Europe, this destination embodies both raw natural power and breathtaking serenity, offering a journey that is as much about the trek as it is about the arrival. Approaching Cabo da Roca involves a scenic trek along cliffside trails that wind through rolling green hills and rugged terrain. Each step reveals a new perspective—sweeping ocean vistas, wild coastal flora, and pathways carved into the earth by centuries of wind and sea. The trek itself feels immersive and grounding, like walking through a natural amphitheater built to showcase the Atlantic’s grandeur. The coastline here evokes the otherworldly atmosphere of a cinematic masterpiece—akin to scenes from Avatar. Towering cliffs plunge dramatically into the roaring Atlantic, their rock formations sculpted into surreal, almost sculptural shapes. The interplay of light and shadow across the stones, coupled with the ocean spray rising against them, creates an almost ethereal visual symphony. Down below, hidden coves and secluded beaches reveal themselves to those adventurous enough to explore further. Jagged rocks stand sentinel in the surf, their silhouettes resembling fantastical creatures from another world. As the sun begins to lower, the entire coastline is bathed in golden light, amplifying the textures of the cliffs and painting the waves with hues of amber and sapphire. By evening, Cabo da Roca transforms into a place of contemplation and awe. The horizon stretches endlessly westward, and watching the sun dip into the Atlantic feels like witnessing the edge of the earth itself. It is both humbling and inspiring—a moment of perspective that resonates long after departure. Cabo da Roca offers an unforgettable blend of adventure, natural wonder, and cinematic beauty. From trekking the dramatic cliffside trails to standing before the towering rock formations, the experience feels like stepping into a living painting—or indeed, into the world of Avatar. It is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking not only a landmark, but also a profound connection with nature.

Google
Amazing place! It really gives you the vibe of the end of the world. Feels so unreal to be here. Definitely should visit! Note the wind could be quite strong here and a bit chilly even during the summer. And do be careful don't fall down the cliff (not all the places have safety nets). Very lovely to take a walk here, definitely want to visit again.

Google
This was our favorite place from the 7 days trip in Lisbon! The view is absolutely mesmerizing! The feel of the ocean waves hitting the stones, the birds flying near the shore, the way the hills are showing you their beautiful curves and the powerful ocean wind. Everything about this place is beautiful and amazing! If you visit Portugal this place is a MUST!!!

Belma H

Google
Amazing place! One of the highlights of our Portugal visit, magnificent! Cool photo opportunity but also to take some time and enjoy nature at its finest! Beautiful. But suggest everyone to be careful, fences are there for a reason! Our guide told us many unfortunate stories from that place so best to be cautious.

Google
When I arrived at Cabo da Roca, it was already quite crowded, but the breathtaking view of the ocean made it all worth it. The scenery is truly one of a kind — dramatic cliffs meeting the endless blue horizon. It was a bit windy, but that only added to the charm and wild beauty of the place. A must-visit spot if you’re exploring the Lisbon area! Easy bus access

Yelp
Boca da Roca is the westernmost point of Europe. She's a windy spot where you just stand there and look out into the abyss like you just discovered the Atlantic. Did you know you can see the United States on clear days? I'm kidding. That's just your delusion blowing in with the fog. There's a stone marker telling you this is where Europe ends, just in case the cliffs and total lack of anything else didn't clue you in.

Yelp
"There once was a man, his name was Magellan A Portuguese skipper, the girls found him cute He sailed with five ships to find the East Indies Then came back to Spain with a bounty of loot." (Ballad of Magellan) *Spoiler alert* He didn't make it back. Gaze dreamily out to the open sea from the rugged cliffs of Cabo da Roca and envision nearly circumnavigating the globe a la Magellan...unless you're a flat Earther, of course. WHAT IS CABO DA ROCA? Cabo da Roca is a cape in Colares that forms the westernmost point of Portugal and continental Europe. WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT: Cabo boasts stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean and seaside cliffs that drop 300 feet down to the waves below. Here you will also find a picturesque lighthouse, a café and gift shop, and a giant stone cross erected in the 18th century to mark where the earth ends and the sea begins. PLAN YOUR VISIT: If you're visiting either Sintra or Cascais, consider adding an excursion to Cabo. My friend and I traveled via Bolt (similar to Uber) along the scenic coastline to Cabo after a day in Cascais, hoping to catch a spectacular sunset...and we did! The tourist office and café are closed in evenings, meaning no access to the WC and no options for food. If you'll be arriving later in the day, pack for a picnic and bring layers or jackets as it becomes quite windy and chilly here. HOW TO GET HERE: Cabo is about a 30 minute drive from Lisbon. You can also take bus #035, or travel by train to Sintra and then take bus #403 (which also passes through Cascais). The last bus leaves Cabo around 8pm. We found ourselves in a panic not getting any Bolt or Uber drivers to pick us up after sunset for almost a full hour from the time we pulled up our apps. So if there for the sunset, I recommend hiring a personal driver to get from Cascais to Cabo and back, with a pitstop at Boca do Inferno. Overall Cabo da Roca is an ideal spot to catch a sunset, enjoy a picnic and hike, or to send postcards from the edge of the world. If you sail off for the East Indies, watch out for those deadly bamboo strikes!

Yelp
Interesting place because it is the most western point of mainland Europe. Great views of the ocean but you cannot go down to the water and the place gets way too many tourists as all the ground is trampled and eroded. Really need to build some boardwalks or something to try to keep people from wandering everywhere. But still a beautiful point.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Beautiful cliffs to see with the crashing ocean waves. So powerful! There's a restroom in the basement of the souvenir store but you have to buy a coffee to get the free bar code. There's also a tourism office where we got our names put on the most western part of Europe certificate!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Cabo Da Roca.is the most western coast in Europe located in Lisbon Portugal. Not much here to see however just to mark the most western boarder in all Europe was cool also, you can not beat an ocean view no matter where you're at.

Yelp
Cabo Da Roca lifted my spirits! Our tour only stopped there for 15 mins but it was indeed such a glorious and grand place and that carpet of blooming flowers in different was so gorgeous! And I can now claim have been to the Westernmost Point in Continental Europe! Next stop, America :-) Yelp 2019

Yelp
Standing at the westernmost point in continental Europe sounds gimmicky, I know. But it's not! With a jaw-dropping view of the Atlantic Ocean, dramatic cliffs dropping straight into the water similar to the stunning Irish coast, and the world's largest waves just around the corner at Nazaré, this is a point of interest worth seeing. You'll get some truly amazing photos here! A pro tip is to visit the Moinho D. Quixote restaurant on the way down, because the view from their patio is incredible and the food is amazing!

Yelp
The trip to and from Cabo Da Roca was a fun adventure and this will go down in my list of "superlative" reviews https://www.yelp.com/collection/fNQQ1OQ41doLSVPysXnv_Q/Superlatives-all-the-est-places as it is the Westernmost Point in Continental Europe. The 403 bus from either Sintra or Cascais stops right out front and it's a short walk to the marker point. You can also walk up the hill a little bit to the lighthouse which is private. There is a great marker and photo opportunities. You'll find a small restaurant, gift shop and tourism office. I think it's super cute and I'm glad I made the journey! Trivia question - From Cabo Da Roca, what state is the closest? Florida? Virginia? Wrong! It's MAINE! Maine is the closest to Europe! [Review 19031 overall - 227 in Portugal - 2555* of 2022.] As this is the last of the year, this is my YEAR-END WRAP UP! * What is the significance of 2555 reviews? 2555 divided by 365 is 7. I have written an average of 7 REVIEWS A DAY this year. That's the most I've ever written in a year, exceeding 2019 when I poured out 2480. This was my 19031st review, which means that just 2022 was nearly one seventh of all the reviews I've ever written in my 13+ years. Exhausting! The 2022 collection https://www.yelp.com/collection/WH-_Pak3OcycqMfuny5tXQ/ records my reviews in 44 states (I did not get to Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, or North Dakota this year) and 5 other countries (Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden). - Most reviewed state was my home state of North Carolina with 244. - Portugal was reviewed country with 151, Italy was second with 111 and Sweden was third with 90. - Top five most reviewed cities were Charlotte NC (141), Lisbon PT (125), Stockholm SE (82), New York NY (62) and Napa CA (56). - Reviewed 802 unique cities this year. 602 I had never visited before. 217 cities got three or more reviews this year, 33 got ten or more and 12 got twenty or more. - Updated 10 reviews, five of which were in Charlotte NC. - Three "round number" reviews. 17000 was the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa Italy, 18000 was the Point Place Lighthouse in Toledo Ohio and 19000 was just a few days ago, the Elevador do Lavra in Lisbon Portugal. Looking forward to making 20000 a special one! - Only eight "oddball" reviews, including Betty White, Christmas Songs and Snow Days. - Attended three in-person Yelp events in Charlotte (The Yelpies, the Chicken Sandwich and the Halloween Costume Party) and hosted UYEs in Saint Louis and Cape Coral. Whew, what a year!

Yelp
Breathtaking views. Beware of Pina Colada Sexy. Very tasty pineapple drinks. I bought two, but she charged my card for three! Pay cash to be safe.

Yelp
Cape Roca is the most western point of continental Europe. It is an easy 30 min trip from Lisbon, and the best views are for sure around sunset. We arrived an hour before sunset, and visited Ursa Beach in a same trip. There was plenty of available free parking, behind the lighthouse and further down next to the restaurant. Most of the people just stay for 30 min to walk the ground and take a photos with the stone monument. We also grabbed few items from the restaurant which had quite simple interior but offered gorgeous views of the coastline and cliffs. And do stretch your legs and walk uphill to the lighthouse. Current 22 meters tall lighthouse dates from 1842 and hovers 150 meters above the ocean, and can be seen from 28 km distance.

Yelp
PARKING IS FREE! This guy or someone like him will tell you it's 10€ to watch your car for an hour, or 20€ for two. Don't fall for it. Beautiful views, though.
google avatar

Barney C.

Yelp
Amazing views. Lots of tourists but worth while. If you need to use the restroom, go to the restaurant and buy a drink. Their restroom is for patrons only but there's no wait.
google avatar

Yelp
West most point of Europe. Tourist spot to check off a box on your bucket list. The view is beautiful, water is crystal blue and when the sun hits it the right way it does look sparkling. You can get here by taking the tourist bus or the hop on and hop off bus. Short walk from bus stop to the sign where you have to take a picture for bragging rights. The paths are well paved. I walked around the whole area, took a lot of photos and only took me 20min. Not too much to see really.

Yelp
"Where the land ends and the sea begins"-Luis de Cameos If you have a day, this is a must stop/visit especially if you make it out to Sintra. No need to drive to get here. From Lisbon, I've taken the train to Sintra (about 45 minutes) and from there I've bought a bus ticket for about 12 Euros (or if you just go to Cabo about 4 Euros) that will take you to all of the area Landmarks-Cabo da Roca, Pena Palace, Castelo dos Mouros, etc. I've covered these three in a day (started early and finished late) It will take about 40 minutes on bus from Sintra to Cabo Da Roca. Interesting ride & adventure full of rolling hills and tight roads. That said you won't be disappointed. As others have mentioned, the views are breathtaking. I've been here twice and it seemed it was busier in February than July but the later in the day you go, the smaller the crowds. You can take the bus from Cabo da Roca and finish your day in Cascais (great sights and restaurants) and take the train back to Lisbon.

Yelp
Cabo Da Roca is the western most end of Europe which some say is where Europe begins while others say it is where Europe ends. I guess it depends upon your point of view, something like whether the glass is half empty or half full or if you consider the sky to be partly cloudy or partly sunny. Whatever, Cabo Da Roca offers a magnificent high up view of the ocean with its waves smashing upon the rocks of a jagged coastline. Best off, though tourist infested, fairly free of peddlers, vendors and the like. If you go here, be sure to bundle up because it is windy, like real windy and even on the warmest of days seemingly rather chilly.

Yelp
* * * WESTERNMOST POINT IN MAINLAND EUROPE!!! * * * * * * WESTERNMOST POINT IN MAINLAND EUROPE!!! * * * * * * WESTERNMOST POINT IN MAINLAND EUROPE!!! * * * No admission fee, just show up! Now, getting there, will cost you, but usually not much. The most common route is taking the train from Lisbon to Sintra (which you will want to visit anyway) for about 4€. From there, the line 403 bus will take you 38 mins to get to Cabo da Roca from Sintra for about another 4€. You can also rent a little car-type vehicle in Sintra, which allows you the freedom to go where you please, at your own pace. One such company we saw there was LAS tours Sintra, but the tourism office in Sintra will be able to present you with all the options. You can take an Uber from Lisbon all the way out to Cabo, but it is a lot more costly than the train and bus. We drove from Lisbon in a rental car, and it took us about 40mins. There are tolls on the major highways (most, but not all take credit cards). Tolls are under 2€ each. If you are up for hiking, you'll want at least an hour here, but there are beaches nearby (Praia da Ursa and Praia da Adraga) with amazing natural rock formations, that are a much better bang for your hike effort than the trails along the Cabo cliff. So, for us, we wanted to just show up, look around, and leave. Taking a bus would have forced us to be stuck there longer than we wanted, and many people mill around, check out the cafe (which has bad reviews), and end up wasting some of their day. Just to clarify, Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of MAINLAND Europe, just as when we visited Tarifa, Spain, it was again, the southernmost point of MAINLAND Europe. The Azores Islands are much more to the West, just as the Gavdos Island is farther south, but the novelty of the mainland factor is still there. It is definitely a site worth seeing, I just recommend realizing that you'll want either a lot of time, or very little time here, and to plan transport accordingly. Either way though, it is a pristine place of natural beauty, especially on a sunny day, and is a special experience to think of the generations of Portuguese explorers who looked out from this coast, conceiving of some of the most significant exploration of our world, that written history has ever known! * * * TIP * * * Nearby breathtaking beaches to visit are Praia da Ursa, 1km to the north by road, then a difficult hike to the beach, but all reviews say it's worth the work for the amazing rock outcroppings. Another 4.4km to the north from there, is Praia da Adraga, another memorable beach with more crazy geo forms. * * * TIP * * * Hungry? Just up the road are a bunch of quaint restaurants. Don't rely on the obvious tourist trap cafe right at the site...much better options a short walk up the road. * * * TIP * * * 40 min drive in car (or via bus) from Lisbon

Yelp
Cold AF. If you're doing a tour to Sintra chances are this will be one of your stops. Bring a jacket- it's cold and windy.
google avatar

Denise L.

Yelp
Wonderful view of ocean to sea! It wasn't too windy and sun was shining the day we visited. Apparently you can get a stamp being on the most western tip of Europe if you want! A must see if you are in Lisbon!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
It's a pretty overlook of the ocean that was part of an escorted tour. If not, I would probably recommemd skipping it. Its completely over crowded. The bathroom line was super long and I didnt know it until I got to the front but they only took exact change. I didnt have time to get change and wait in line all over again so I had to hold it until we got back to Lisbon.
google avatar

Neluta G.

Yelp
As previews Yelpers stated in their reviews this is the most Western point in Europe and on the same latitude with Washington DC. So on a clear day you can see the White House....just kidding, however it is a fun fact to know. It was extremely windy and cold on this day, but a fun place to visit and tell you family and friends about.
google avatar

Nicky D S.

Yelp
This is a must visit if you come to Lisbon. It is the western moat point in Europe, and right by the Atlantic Ocean...if you jump in the water and swim you'll reach NYC! I don't suggest anyone do this as the water is very choppy but definitely a cool sight to see. Bring your cameras because the views are absolutely breathtaking and you will get some great shots and selfies ;) It's very windy so I suggest you hold on to your hat!
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
If you've seen or are from the West coast and have traveled Big Sure or the coast of Oregon I'm not sure this is worth the time. I've been blown away by by many things I've seen in Portugal but this place- crowded with idiots from tour buses sure didn't do it for me. We've been to much lovelier beach views in Portugal. Unless you really need to be at the westernmost point- despite hordes of tourists- give this place a miss. If you do go, bring a jacket. It can be very windy.
google avatar

Eurasia L.

Yelp
As good as it gets!. Getting here was a bit of a challenge by car but I made it! How many can say I've been here especially where I came from. I've come a long way you guys. I thought the farthest place I'll ever get to is Disneyland but guess what? Portugal? R ju kidding me!?? This is an amazing experience for me. Again and again, I'm so ever grateful for all the beauty this place has, the winery and the displays they have here. The fields of interesting plants and flowers? Truly amazing! However, there cliffs all around which, by the way have signs all over as well and I hope some will pay attention and try not to drink a little too many and try to take selfies late at night or at all by the cliffs. It is a beautiful sight and lets stick to that. It's free to enter this place and there are many tourist buses as well who come to this to take great photos of their liking. Did I mention this is the farthest point of the Atlantic ocean here in Europe. Yes, you're welcome! Respect the area because it is a beautiful place. I hope you guys can make it here one day. Obrigada!
google avatar

Lim K.

Yelp
It is a beautiful place to visit while in Lisbon; however, we have many beautiful ocean views in California. This was one of the stops on our tour of Sintra. We have visited the southernmost point in Africa and we were happy to visit the westernmost point in Europe.
google avatar

Kristy N.

Yelp
I went to THE END OF THE WORLD (or so, does Luís de Camões believe it to be). Cabo Da Roca is an amazing, but extremely windy place in Portugal! Located in Sintra National Park, Cabo Da Roca is a great place to visit if you're travelling around Portugal. Located at the most western part of Europe, you get a beautiful view as the sky and ocean are separated by one fine line. Even on a warm summer day in the middle of August in Portugal, you will need a jacket - preferably a sweater and a windbreaker on top! It's EXTREMELY windy - so when you take pictures, expect yourself to look like Albert Einstein's hair or a mad scientist after a chemical explosion. A lot of people step beyond the rails, and honestly I would too if I didn't go with a tour, but unfortunately, a year or so ago, a couple was standing near the cliff taking a selfie, when a huge gust of wind blew them off balance, causing them to fall down into the waters. The worst part is that their two young children witnessed it all. My heart goes out to these two children. So keep in mind that rails are there for a reason! Even insurance wouldn't cover any of this because it was your choice to go beyond the rails. They have a really interesting sovenier here. For about 10Euro, you can pay for a certificate with your name written in the old language stating that you have made it to Cabo Da Roca.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
We went on a cold and windy day. Not much to see if you've been to a coast before. BUT, my son wanted to go to Ursa Beach back up the road and nearby. We walked 10 minutes to the trail head then headed toward the coast. It was a typical barren landscape until you go over a small hill and then BAM! you see why it's a destination. The hike down and up the cliffs is not for anyone out of shape. It was very steep with loose rocks and dirt. The beach is secluded and clean. This hike was the best part of our trip to Sintra. 4.7 out of 5.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Definitely a must-see when in Sintra! This was one of our stops on our day trip tour. Westernmost point of Europe should be enough of a draw, but I honestly was pretty 'meh' about it until I saw it. We may have broken the rules a little bit and went past the "do not pass" area to avoid the really busy touristy area and get a peek from the cliff. It was mesmerizing watching the water. Super scenic and naturally beautiful - the colors looked like the contrast was turned up. Worth the visit!
google avatar

Shahin S.

Yelp
Marvellous sites of the Atlantic ocean situated over a green lush hilly landscape. It can get extremely busy - so be prepared for that. Also they charge $0.50 to use the bathroom (which is annoying - but so European)!
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
Cabo Da Roca is the Western most point in Europe....and as I stood along the rail...I am SURE I saw my house in Florida! :) If you are in Sinta/Cascais area...do not miss. This lighthouse is right smack dab in the middle of both towns. There is a great bus, Scotturb #403, that will take you straight there. This Cabo Da Roca is a wonderfully windy spot with tons of people flocking there to see the cliffs that surround the lighthouse. There are guideposts that blocks paths, but people were climbing under them and hiking all around. Be very careful....as the wind gusts can and will catch you off guard. Try to go at sunset...for some amazing scenery. Take some Ginjinha and toast to a wonderful world that we live in! Brinde!
google avatar

Henry Y.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning. Cabo da Roca is the western-most point of continental Europe and I'd highly highly recommend making a trip here if you're in Lisbon. You can spend the morning and early afternoon in Sintra before taking an uber or bus to this lookout point just 15-20 minutes away by car from Sintra. It's like... a lighthouse in the East Coast of the US but 1000x better. The cliffside is as steep as it is beautiful. There are barriers that people recklessly amble over. The waves crash below at sea-level at what most be deafening loudness but to your ears it just sounds like a muffled roar. Everything about this place is amazing and it'd be great to just sit here and zone out or even to have a simple picnic. This is definitely a can't-miss place.
google avatar

Tobias A.

Yelp
Just maybe an hour away from Lisbon is Cabo Da Roca, and it is gorgeous. There is a nice platform, but you can walk along the cliffs (dangerous). The cafe next to the lighthouse has public toilets, but the food itself is not that amazing. Still, the view is great and if you are on a road-trip this is a must-see.

Yelp
Just must visit place!!! Won't tell you more just to let u explore the wonderful feeling there.
