Best Candy Shops in Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"Cacao is a chocaholic’s dream. Find gem-like truffles with flavor infusions such as tequila lime and tamarind habanero. Try the salame di cioccolato: a confection made of chocolate rolled with shortbread and amaretti cookies that resembles the deli classic." - Eater Staff

1st off AMAZING ONE OF A KIND CHOCOLATE This Chocolate Shop is modern Willy Wonka chocolate shop a great mixture of flavor & unique art, followed by an amazing one of a kind experience with the owner Mr. Wattson. Everything in there he made by hand like a personal art museum and his diverse chocolate flavors are addictive. Can’t wait to go back!!

What an epic night I had filled with live music, Dj, Art and top notch chocolate. My fav was the box filled with 12 morsels of joy. I can't speak highly enough of the creativity that is poured into this Chocolate Shop. Art, music, creative spirits all gathered in one place. As an artist myself I could appreciate it. Oh by the way, check out the jackets on sale there. Super fresh. If you get the opportunity to witness this venue just tell em ibii sent you. 🤗

By far the most exquisite chocolates I’ve ever tasted! A total surprise to get such a variety of subtle flavor profiles, it was like exploring a fine wine. Highly recommend the box of truffles for gifting yourself or someone else!

If you haven’t visited Cacao you are missing out!! Kristen Hard’s chocolate is literally the best I’ve ever had. I am obsessed with the “Free The Mind” coconut and dark chocolate bar. Even the packaging is such a piece of art! Owner, Mr. Wattson and his space is such a vibe. The store is full of art and creative vintage clothing pieces. I’m amazed at how creatively designed the space is. 10 out 10 highly recommend checking this space out and grabbing chocolate for all of your loved ones! I’ll be buying bars as gifts for all my favorite people.

Upon walking into this establishment, it is something very different and I mean different in a good way. Nice, calm, casual, and good vibes all around. Mr. Wattson, the store owner is just the absolute nicest! He will greet you as if you are already family. He's very much like a steam punk Willy Wonka. Now, the chocolates…. Sure you can shoot for some other high end brand of chocolate but why go normal?! The chocolate here is just absolutely divine. Upon first trying it, it’s very smooth. It’s rich flavors truly add to it. And where can you get flavors like White Chocolate Fruity Pebbles! (It’s literally so good!) All in all I highly recommend this place if you’re craving something chocolate and/or looking for a gift idea that involves chocolate. I’d give more than 5 stars if I could!

Google
I got a mint basil chocolate bar from here and the first word that came to mind was “ethereal”. The chocolate was not too sweet, I’d say perfect, and the mint-basil combination was amazing. Also the packaging is super cool so it’s hanging on my fridge. Really, it’s worth going for the vibes alone. The proprietor is super kind and, if you’re into good conversation about art and music *combined* with chocolate, then this is the place for you.

Mr Wattsons Chocolate Shop is one of the last original Atlanta underground spots. It’s not just a chocolate shop it’s a destination for artists around the city. You may run into the guy on the corner or the person you saw on TV last night. You truly never know. The chocolate speaks for itself and keeps people coming back. Come to enjoy live music, great chocolate, and who knows, maybe even stumble upon greatness.

Yelp
Terrible/Nonexistent customer service. A friend ordered chocolate for my birthday to be sent to Oregon. Cacao sent it via UPS (what? there wasn't a slower option?). Once it arrived 10 days later all of the chocolate was (shocker!) melted and inedible. I texted, emailed, and sent messages via Instagram. No one ever replied. I was very disappointed.

Yelp
This location has some serious issues. Last week there was a stern note on the door stating that they were behind on their rent. You have to make an appointment in order to shop in the store. This is not high-end art in an exclusive gallery, it's just chocolate, so why would anyone need to make an appointment to simply buy a box of chocolates? And it's not even the best chocolate in town.

Yelp
I am disappointed. Moreover, my wife is disappointed and I hate to let her down. I was in the area meeting with one of the local restaurants that I was hosting an event at and happened across Cacao. I stopped because chocolate is one of my wife's favorite things. I also thought I could pickup some special chocolates for my meetings. The lady behind the counter was nice enough. I applauded the art on the wall and asked about this special box of chocolates in a display case. She indicated it was a special box created in partnership with an artist. I thought that could be a wonderful way to impress my colleagues and my wife. So, I paid over $300 for 3 boxes of chocolate. I reserved one of the special artist boxes for my wife and gave the rest to my colleagues. After leaving the location, I received an email announcement about a Valentines event where we could have a tasting and even make chocolate. That was perfect for my wife. So I bought those tickets and made reservations at Aria for dinner beforehand. My wife could not have been more ecstatic for our Valentines outing. Dinner was amazing and we only had to drive just down the street to Cacao in Buckhead. Walking into the shop something was immediately amiss when there weren't mobs of other couples standing around. We obviously didn't read the fine print, so we had no idea that Cacao had other locations and that the event was in a completely different part of town. So we left, dejected. Went over to the Southern Gentleman where the GM took great care of us, as always. Even so, I could not shake the disappointed look on my wife's face, despite her positive acceptance of the circumstances. So when we arrived home, I thanked her for her graciousness and apologized because I knew she was really looking forward to the chocolate event. So, I gave her the special artist box of chocolates from Cacao. I explained the story behind it and that it was from the shop we had disappointedly left a couple hours earlier. She perked up and was immediately excited. Then she opened the box. There was no cars describing the artist or the chocolates as the salesperson has promised me would be in the box. Next, the chocolates were in disarray. Apparently you can only transport them with the box upright because the packaging does not keep them in place. I helped her rearrange them. That's when we looked at the design. Perhaps it was artistically dramatic before all the pieces moved all over. However, at first glance, it was overwhelmingly drab and uninspiring. Again, I loved the artist's painting in the shop. Finally, the icing on the cake came when I decided to try one. The texture was like a brittle chocolate nougat, which was fine. The chocolate flavor was subtle and not particularly memorable. It had a thin layer topping with what might have been something like a crumb of a candied orange. Not the decadence my wife enjoys. She likes smooth, creamy milk chocolate. Maybe our palettes are just not sophisticated enough. We do chocolate tours in the cities we travel to. Mea culpa for not catching the location of the event. Granted, the quality and product delivery I associate with what I paid to this company seem disproportionate. I will try to make it up to my wife with a trip to Cacao's factory in the hopes of a better experience. The concept is something she would still love to try.

Yelp
This place is definitely funny. There is more space then there is chocolate - it has an air of Vosges a la 2012 when they opened their first shop but without the charm and well chocolate - how do you have a shoppe and don't have chocolate because you are "waiting on a delivery." HAHAHA and why is the chocolate so small it is like a peanut - anyway - damn well we all know I know my chocolate - so whilst cute and friendly me thinks I won't be going back - awkward location to boot sorta hidden behind Tom Ford on a busy strip - so sorry - though my chocolate was enough - I am not craving it ya know?

Yelp
We first tried Cacao in 2014 and were quite impressed. We've lived in Europe for years and have grown accustomed to fine chocolate. A few weeks ago we decided to try Cacao again and could not be more disappointed. We spent $86 on a small box of 6 pieces, a chocolate bar and some chocolate covered gummies for the kids. The pieces were bland and flavorless, the bar was devoid of any flavor and the gummies were hard and the kids spit them out. I reached out to their management and after a few emails they finally responded. They assured me that they had tasted the chocolate and it was fine. They offered to refund any chocolate that we hadn't tried or thrown away. The trouble is, we knew it was bad by trying it. And I would have to drive almost an hour to get a partial refund. When you spend this kind of money on chocolate you expect good chocolate and good customer service, sadly with Cacao you get neither.

Yelp
This is a high end chocolate boutique that looks like it just opened the location here in this new shopping area in Bulkhead. I came here to find a specific type of gift. I'm scoring this store strictly based on my shopping experience, not on the quality of the chocolate. I didn't try any of their chocolate since I came to buy a gift and not chocolate for myself. What I particularly liked is that they have a really nice gift option called the daily dose, which is a box of small dark chocolate pieces, enough for a 30 day supply. This is a really nice gift for someone who likes taking small pieces of chocolate as a treat and for the health benefits, and it's hard to find this type of gift anywhere else. The chocolate in this box is 60% cacao -- I wish it were slightly higher, like above 70%, but I'll take what I can get. The store itself is very small with one counter and a selection of truffles behind the counter, plus some chocolate bars. Some of their chocolate is wrapped in a very unique manner and exquisite packaging to make it look like to me they are small pieces of luxury soap. If you want to make a good presentation with a gift, this is a real nice place to go. I hope to try some of their chocolate and hope it's as good as the presentation and packaging.

Yelp
Ripoff. You're better off buying artisan chocolate at any whole foods, much better and helps the indigenous growers. Avoid Cacao, out of touch with reality.

Yelp
I'll keep it simple. Perhaps I'm not a gourmand when it comes to chocolates. I appreciate the artistic aspect and enjoy the flavors. But maybe I'm just not into chocolates like, let's say shoes... So spending around $48 on 7 pieces of chocolate just doesn't do it for me. But maybe I just don't know and so 2 stars instead of 1. Shop is nice, designs on chocolates are cool, and they taste pretty good. If you are a gourmand and appreciate finer chocolates, this may be for you.
