Where To Go Next in Barcelona

"With a brown and beige Japanese-inspired interior and such outré creations as anchovy- or Parmesan-flavored bonbons, Barcelona's newest temple to chocolate is co-owned by Albert Adrià, the brainy pastry chef at El Bulli and brother of chef Ferran Adrià." - Food & Wine Editors

I was here now several times and have to add more pictures of the store and the nice staff on my next visit. I bought a fantastic chocoloate teddy bear for my husband in April and was back in my birthday in May and finally bought the really tasty spice selection of pralines No 3. High quality chocolate with aromas you will not anywhere else.

Five star chocolate artistic shop. I enjoyed tasting and shopping. Very friendly and lovely place. Highly recommended if you love chocolate and wants to try different kinds.

What I love about Cacao Sampaka the most is their interesting range of lesser known chocolates. The Legendary Cocoas box is a top pick. You get 4 unique origins to try side by side and at €15 it's not breaking the bank. One bar goes for €9.90. The lady in charge is very knowledgable and utterly friendly. I could even try a bonbon from Tanzania. Thank you so much.

Google
I asked for advice for ceremonial raw cacao. I bought 8 bars of cacao she recommended, but I found out later that this was not raw cacao. I tried to bring it back whithin a few hours and they were unfriendly and didnt came with a solution or checked that the chocolats still has the seal. The communication was unfriendly and this costs me 45,- euro.

I stopped here to buy some special chocolate and I got amazing rose strawberry chocolate bar. They have great selections of different flavors. Perfect for gifts. They had very friendly nice staff who spoke fluent Japanese also! Very lovely.

Step out for a bit from the Rambla towards Consell de Cent and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with churros, a piece of authentic brownie or their flagship pastry "eclair". There is a bunch of different types of chocolate products to enjoy and also to purchase, as right before the café you walk through the store. A good choice if you are trying to hide in a (bit) more quiet environment, and certainly if you are a chocolate lover. A bit pricy, yet worth a visit.

Google
A great handmade chocolate shop with a variety of handmade chocolates of different flavors. They are all delicious, delicate, and very special chocolates. The environment in the store is very warm, and there will be different decorations and limited chocolates according to the festival. And the staff are very nice.

I’m always excited to try a new chocolate shop when I travel and this was no exception; I’d heard good things. I bought a few bars during my visit and just finished the last one, about 2 weeks later. The toffee fudge was really good, as was the cappuccino. However, the Roses and Strawberries left a lasting impression. Smooth white chocolate speckled with what seemed like freeze dried strawberries and roses. The taste was unique and I ended up sharing with a client, I now regret that.

Yelp
I love hot chocolate. So everywhere I go, I have to try one or more and ice cream and local sweets. Yeah I like sweet :) The hot chocolate was not sweet 70% and it had the consistency like. Beside you can have a drink here and the typical xurros, you can also buy chocolate and pralines.

Yelp
My husband's favorite chocolate shop in Barcelona and now my favorite, too. I've heard about this place for over a decade and finally got to taste that thick, spicy hot chocolate deliciousness that I've been hearing about. Never tasted anything like this in my life. WOW! Seriously decadent. Seriously perfect hot chocolate, the Barcelona way. Though we came for the hot chocolate, we highly recommend their sandwiches as well. Everything is friendly about this place. Every future visit to Barcelona won't be complete without at least one visit to Cacao Sampaka. This is affordable bliss. Heaven in a cup.

Yelp
Dearest Cacao Sampaka, Why are you not here in the U.S. I think it was a mistake crossing paths with you while walking down your side of the street. Why did our eyes meet? You're dangerous. Your chocolate covered sunflower seeds are dangerous. Your chocolate covered nuts are dangerous. You have given me all the power to lay down arms and give up my American way of drinking hot chocolate. In fact, you've converted me to drink my hot chocolate European style now. It's a love hate relationship and I cannot wait until I lay my eyes on you again. Like a love sick puppy, I beckon and bow to your deliciousness. Always, Marianne

Yelp
This was a good spot for getting your chocolate fix. They have a great selection of different kinds of chocolates including, truffles, candy bars, lollipops, sauces and more. I tried a lollipop, which was very good and a chocolate-peanut butter sauce that was amazing. There's a small café in the back of this shop, but I have to say it was pretty disappointing - the hot chocolate and churros were just okay and the brownie was not very good at all...stick with the main shop in front and you'll have great luck with chocolate.

Yelp
My favorite chocolate shop in Barcelona! I've been to Barca twice now and both times, I headed straight for Cacao Sampaka. This is not your average chocolate store. They have some fun, adventurous flavors like chocolate with thyme, chocolate with parmesan cheese and so much more. This is a great place to get gifts to bring back home if you know some chocolate lovers. It's a little on the pricey side but you're on vacation, you have to splurge a little! I brought home about 10 boxes of different kinds of chocolates last time as well as assorted bars. The sea salt chocolate bar was the most raved about among my friends & family. On the cafe side of things, the horchata with ice cream was so good! I'm pretty sure I've had it both times I've been. Cacao is right off of Passeig de Gràcia and it's a nice stop if you want to get away from the crowds on Passeig de Gràcia for a few minutes. I wish this store shipped to the US!

Yelp
I'm coming here every time I am in the city. My first visit was a "wow" experience ! The bar was all about drinking chocolate or cocoa: they had all sorts of degustacions in their menue, hot, cold, a variety of intensities and tastes. Glad that I wasn't here by myself, so we got to share many different experiences. :-) After the initial visit, none of the following could keep up with the first impression. The second time we were afraid that they were about to close the store - particularly the Cocoa bar seemed run down and out of stock. The third and fourth time I'm here by myself and - surprise! - the store still exists! It actually looks well kept again but the service is miserable (unfriendly, unperceptive, you need to walk to them to order, they don't clean the table... although they are in 3 for 3 parties of guests). They have also "mainstreamed" their menue, offering sandwiches and panini a now, on the expense of chocolate variations. Degustacions are no longer in the menue, but you can have them if you ask. Only cold cocoas though, and today they had run out of one.... Originally 5 stars, this unique store has disappointed me every time I came back. Down to average, I am sorry.

Yelp
Great chocolate with cocoa from all over the world! I got the history of chocolate where they had explanation of different cocoa from South America and Africa. Great gift idea There is also a cafe in the back

Yelp
Cacao Sampaka is a great spot to grab a nice chocolate drink, or browse some of their *excellent* chocolate collections (I'm a big fan of the fruit one). The space is well designed: high ceilings, cool, clean lines, and wifi. And though the shop/cafe isn't perfect, and the prices can be a bit steep, particularly in the cafe, it's a good afternoon stop, especially if you've got a sweet tooth and are in the mood for some quality cocoa :) PS: The cold chocolate drinks are deeeelish!

Yelp
This place is pretty cool, but the chocolate isn't that good. I mean, there is so much variation that when I was choosing what chocolates to get, I had to ask the lady for help because what their flavors were wasn't labeled. In the end, the chocolate was extremely average. Not that good. The lady wasn't too nice to me either. I'd say it's cooler aesthetically than anything else.

Yelp
Second favorite chocolate I've had behind maison du chocolat. Worth a detour. Must visit for chocolate lovers. Curry chocolate is a must try. Black truffle is weird.

Yelp
If you are looking for a chocolate shop with a huge offering of chocolates- this place is there for you. The chocolate is even pretty reasonable is price. I got a box of 16 for 12.9 (euros). However the chocolate itself is not the best. Some lack flavor, others are strangely dry.

Yelp
Amazing foodie, gourmet chocolate! Had an amazing chocolate and churro here, and left with some really over-the-top chocolates to take home to eat and as gifts (with flavors like truffle and basalmic vinegar). If you want to take home some really amazing chocolates from your trip, this would be the place! The staff was a bit cold and unhelpful, and so for that I'm deducting a star. Chocolates were surprisingly reasonably priced, considering how gourmet they were.

Yelp
Never again! How come they dare to charge you 11,50€ for 8 slices of carpaccio still frozen floating in oil, a coffee and a water when the menu (first, main course, desert and drink) cost 8,90€?? Thieves, not to mention the service, worse impossible...!

Yelp
Read rave reviews in guide books. Stopped in this afternoon for a refreshment and some sweets for our hotel. Would never go back. Went into the cafe, greeted them in my (poor) Castellan (Spanish), receive a surly look in return and was handed a menu. Asked about Mascarpone & Fig gelato, received merely a sour "Finished." Asked about cold chocolate drink with jasmine tea. Again, "Finished." Mind you, I had tried to make my requests in Spanish. Not even a, "Sorry, it's finished" or a suggestion that I try a different flavor. The gelato we ordered (chocolate and tea) was tasty enough, but the service was enough to sour the cream in the gelato. Left without buying the sweets for the hotel, and vowing never to return.
