Unfortunately this is just another example of a popular Pueblo restaurant with poor quality food, poor service and an outdated atmosphere. The Spanish rice was gritty and the beans were dry and thick and tasted like they were from a can. The green chili was decent but not worthy of an award. The fact that they only serve one tiny bowl of chips for two people at a table and charged $3.50 for another bowl is highway robbery. What's even more comical is they put the salsa bowl inside the bowl of stale lukewarm chips so it's not even an actual bowl of chips like at other popular Mexican restaurants in town that provide unlimited freshly made, hot chips. At around 50 years old, we are the youngest people in the restaurant. The most shocking was the $6 lemonade with $2 refills. On top of that they charge a surcharge on the bill for paying with a credit card. Never ever ever again.

A Hidden Gem for Mexican-American Fare Cactus Flower is a great, locally owned restaurant offering full table service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, making for an enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. I ordered the enchiladas, which were flavorful and well-prepared. The menu described them as "smothered" in green chile, and while the sauce was tasty, I found the portion of green chile to be more modest compared to other local spots. If you're someone who loves a generous helping of chile, you might notice the difference. One thing to note: the tortilla chips are not complimentary or unlimited, which is something to keep in mind if you're used to bottomless chips and salsa at similar restaurants. That said, the quality of the food, inviting ambiance, and attentive service make Cactus Flower a great place to dine. I'm looking forward to returning and trying more dishes from the menu.

My husband and I were driving North on I-25 and wanted to find a Mexican restaurant for dinner in Pueblo. We found Cactus Flower Restaurant & Cantina just West of the Interstate, so a great stop on the way through. We ordered the Del Mar Enchiladas with medium heat and really enjoyed our meals. The food was very flavorful and served piping hot. The salsa that came with the chips was also very good. It was Saturday and they were busy, but seated us promptly. The server was very friendly. We recommend the restaurant and will stop again when we are back in Pueblo.

Google
Good local Mexican Cantina. It was very busy, but after putting in our name we were seated quickly and the server was polite and efficient. The food was fresh and had good flavor. The taco shells were great and fresh made. There was an odd flavor to the salsa (oregano) so it wasn't my favorite. Clean, comfortable, good service and fresh hot food.

Great food served quickly, nice family vibe, attentive and friendly service ! I’ll be back!

Google
I will start by saying this, the Green Chili is amazing! But, the rest of the food lacked seasoning! Got a slopper and it was decent carried by how good the green chili was but the hamburger was not seasoned well and the fries were solid as well. My wife got a chili relleno and the batter was not seasoned well but the Green Chili again maybe it better. If we want just Green Chili this is a great place for it!. I would say this is a 3.5/5 but since you cannot give half stars I am putting as a 4 due to the green chili!

Google
Best restaurant to serve green chili. Food was absolutely to die for, service was excellent, atmosphere was quite nice. I got the pork and guac burrito and moonlight margarita, both of which were fantastic. Met one of the owners who was very kind as well. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Google
If you're ever in Pueblo, Colorado, do yourself a favor and check out this gem of a Mexican restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the experience was fantastic. We were immediately seated no wait at all, which is always a bonus. The strawberry margarita was absolutely delicious perfectly balanced, refreshing, and not too sweet, with a nice kick of tequila. It paired beautifully with the enchiladas, which were simply amazing. The flavors were so rich and authentic, it felt like I was back in Texas. You could tell everything was made with care, from the freshly made tortillas to the perfectly seasoned fillings. The queso dip was another standout creamy, cheesy, and just the right amount of spice. Honestly, I could’ve just eaten that with some chips and been completely satisfied. Order two of them if there is more than too people. But what truly made this dining experience special was the service. Our waitress was so friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home, adding to the overall positive vibe of the restaurant. (Michelle) Highly recommend eating here if you’re in the area for authentic Mexican food, fantastic drinks, and great service all around! Can’t wait to go back!

Yelp
Here's my take on Mexican restaurants. Most of them are OK but very few are REALLY GOOD! Folks, Cactus Flower Restaurant is REALLY GOOD! Lemme' tell you. We weren't off to a great start when it took quite a while be be seated and there were many open tables. Once we sat down it still took a cool minute for anyone to come to the table. So for me to give five super stars say how good the food has to be to make up for the slow service. Chips and salsa are a telling sign on how good the food is and they more than passed the test with light chips and salsa so good I wanted to chug a gallon of it! Oh my gosh friends. I was blown away by how good the food was. I had the combo #7. Pork and guacamole, chicken and cream cheese enchilada, a fried flour shelled chicken taco, with rice and beans. I went for the mild medium green chili option and it had quite a kick! Next time, I'll stick to mild. Still, it didn't take away from how awesome it was. The taco was seriously the best taco I've ever had in my life! No kidding! I don't know how I'm going to be able to finish this review because I'm getting so hungry writing it. For dessert, I had a sopapilla. Sopapillas are one thing only a few restaurants can get just right. They should be light, airy, and puffy. These were kind of a combo of fry bread and puffy. Kinda' heavy and not too puffy, but the flavor was fantastic. They're on the pricy side at about $4.25 for one. It's good-sized, so you could spit it but you won't want to because it's so good! I believe it's a family-owned and operated restaurant, so that's super cool. Too bad I live in LA. If I lived in Pueblo I would be there all the time. Bookmark this place if you're ever passing through Pueblo. It's right of I-25 so you can have one of the best meals of your life and continue on your happy journey!

Yelp
With the many great options for Mexican food in Pueblo, we chose Cactus Flower which didn't disappoint. At first, we were put off by the impression of being a chain restaurant, but the constant flow of customers showed that this was a very popular restaurant. After a short wait, we were placed at a nice table and quickly greeted by our server Claudia who dropped chips and a tasty salsa and took our drink order. My margarita was big, but lacking a big flavor, switched to Modelo with our meal. I had the Combo #9 which was HUGE including bean tostada, chicken taco, cream cheese & chicken enchilada, beef burrito, beans and rice covering two plates. Delicious and served hot. My guest had the blue corn enchilada plate which was tasty as well. Finished with deep fried ice cream and sopapilla. Highly recommend this Mexican restaurant in Pueblo right off I-25.

Yelp
Great menu. Multi cuisine choices. Always excellent service. Very enjoyable time when I visit. Please plan a visit when the mood of the cactus flowers.

Yelp
The food was great. They were very accommodating to my husband's alteration request. Kid friendly.

Yelp
Great place to stop right off the interstate. We went in for lunch and it was very busy, but we were able to get a seat right away without a reservation. My friend and I each ordered something different and both liked what we got. The service was friendly. We even saw a group that works at another restaurant (their name tags) eating lunch there!

Robert D.

Yelp
Amazing food, great staff, hostess is always very pleasant. My favorite is their tacos bisket, prime rib tacos cooked with Pueblo chilies and onion, get the chilled on the side so they make it fresh. Servers are also awesome.

Yelp
We have been to Cactus Flower 2-3 times now since moving to Pueblo last month! The food is great, the restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. I loved the queso dip with flour chips - OMG!!! I have tried enchiladas, tamales and stuffed poblano peppers. So good! We also like to get their sopapillas.

Michael P.

Yelp
This is a place of History! We arrived shortly around noon on a Friday and the parking was packed. Luckily, they have a Huge parking lot! Our waitress was Mo, a small lady who knew her Green Chili sauce, which they have in mild, medium and Hot! We had the 7 off the lunch menu, the pork burrito and order a cheese enchilada in the side. All were great! I suggest passing on the mild and medium and get the Hot chili sauce, it has a lot more flavor and really isn't very spicy at all.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Cactus Flower! We had heard from friends that Cactus Flower was some of the best Mexican food in Pueblo, and the food and service definitely lived up to the hype! Our server, Lucas, gave us some of the best service we have had in a long time! When we pulled up the parking lot was pretty packed but we were seated immediately and were greeted by our server very quickly. The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa was very good with just a little kick. The Chimichangas and Chicken & Cream Cheese Enchiladas were delicious and the refried beans and Spanish rice were top notch. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back in the future when we are in Pueblo!

Yelp
Honestly, I thought this place would be pretty decent since the name is so cute, I do think it needs a little bit of work. The green chili is actually pretty decent but the reason why I'm giving it three stars is because I had the salmon enchiladas (I honestly have no idea what gotten into me thinking this plate would be good) and truthfully, it should be taken out of the menu along with the imitation crab and shrimp enchilada. Thankfully, our server was awesome and nice!
google avatar

Shelby K.

Yelp
I don't think I have ever had a bad meal here. The service is always amazing. My go to is always the nachos and my wife's is the enchiladas every time it delicious.
google avatar

Lou P.

Yelp
Good Mexican food, with a large menu. Despite being busy, we were seating quickly and our server was very efficient in taking care of us. Our friends have visited for years, I can see why!
google avatar

Debbie W.

Yelp
Cactus Flower is almost always my first restaurant choice while visiting family in Pueblo, CO. The service is prompt and delivered with a smile. The atmosphere is fun, the food and especially the green chile is tasty and the margaritas are delicious. Finally, order the flour tortilla chips. They are extra, but worth it!
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
Love this place! The food was great, the service was great! We live rural and go to Pueblo every few weeks. This will be a regular stop!

Amber W.

Yelp
I love cactus flower and think the food is good but the issue that I have is when placing a takeout order, there are fees charged that are not transparent when starting your order. I checked the site again and there is no mention of fees for take out but a $4 fee is added when checking out. I understand inflation has hit us all BUT this is ridiculous considering the amount of business this restaurant generates on a daily basis. Can I afford $4? Yes but that's not the point. The lack of transparency as well as the nickel and diming type fees that have popped up are getting to be too much. I shouldn't have to pay to pick up food. I will probably skip ordering from here in the future.

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Excellent food! Green chili is delicious and service was great! Flour chips and guacamole were outstanding.

Charlotte C.

Yelp
Wonderful slippers Both red and green chili were wonderful Beer is so cold you get a sheet of ice on top Atmosphere is wonderful little bar
google avatar

Stevie K.

Yelp
The lavender margarita on the rocks might be one of the best margaritas I have ever had! I had the Cactus Combo #7 and my boyfriend had the massive chimichanga. Although the plates were huge and you will not leave hungry, I must admit I felt the food was bland and lacked flavor (other than the green chili). The service was great and the prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Josie D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this family restaurant! Great food, authentic Mexican atmosphere! Great location right off the highway! Service was a little slow, however, Very good under the circumstance ( short staffed).. Will definitely be back soon!!!
google avatar

Karl K.

Yelp
Food is ok Mexican. Not worth the prices. Staff are friendly but forget things and are a little slow. They also charge you for a second basket of tortilla chips and salsa. Salsa is also horrible tasting. Definitely canned.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Pueblo! The service can be hit or miss, and they charge if you want refills on chips, but other than that, it's THE best!!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Even thought the place was hoppin, we were sat down fairly quickly at the bar by staff. Great atmosphere! Drinks served and filled the whole time. Our order was taken and food delivered within 10-15 minutes. Staff were friendly and courteous, never pushy. The chicken and cream cheese enchiladas were amazing paired with a cherry limeade margarita!
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
One of the things I missed the most about living in Colorado is eating at this place. I was visiting friends and went to satisfied my cravings for a Monster burrito smothered in mild green chili with a super chill Dr.Pepper. I was in heaven! My husband ordered the chimichanga and enjoyed it as well. We went an hour before closing time and the place was packed. We waited 20 minutes to be seated. The hostess was courteous and the waiter was fast.
google avatar

Tulshi P.

Yelp
I stopped here on my way to the Great Sand Dunes park based on all the great reviews. However, this place was below average when it comes to food. Veggie options are lacking and even the beans and rice are cooked with lard and chicken stock. I ordered a burrito which was the only vegetarian option on the menu aside from fajitas, and it was not appetizing. Service was great and the place is mindful of covid precautions which is a plus.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
The chicken chimichanga!! I wish I could say I have eaten more things at this place but every single time I always order the exact same thing I had the time before! I do however, always try my wife's dishes and they are just as tasty. This past time she ordered the nachos with shredded chicken. FYI, that is seriously a sharable dish. They were completely loaded and almost a little too much in some places but seriously, is that even a thing that nachos could be too loaded?? No! Currently they advise you to wait in your car after seeing the host stand where they take your info and cell #. We went on a Wednesday night and it was about a 30 minute wait for 4 people. Place is kept nice and clean as always and service is wonderful every time!

Lori S.

Yelp
Love the food at this restaurant. Everyone is kind and friendly. However, it is GROSS that they allowed a dog in the restaurant even if it is in a carrier. Just terrible.

Yelp
Almost every time I'm in Pueblo I go to the Cactus Flower. Pueblo is right in the middle of me and my family back home, so we like to meet here for lunch or dinner! I stuff myself on chips and salsa before my food even arrives because it's THAT good. The staff are always so helpful and friendly. My favorite dish is the enchiladas with cream cheese...I haven't tried another place nearby that uses cream cheese. It's heaven! They have many different combinations to try, even some with a little bit of everything. Cactus Flower also has an extensive drink menu that I hope I can try soon. That horchata drink is looking at me in some kinda way...

J B.

Yelp
I ordered the carnitas plate (and a margarita & a dessert). I was sooo excited to try this place, but what I ended up getting was dry rice, dry refrieds and, you guessed it, dry carnitas. The drink was fine. The sopapilla, underwhelming, at best. I drove six hours and looked forward to a great meal, but, unfortunately, this experience really didn't live up to the hype/reviews. Won't be back.
google avatar

Pranjali S.

Yelp
3.5 stars. We ordered food online and the instructions said that I would get a confirmation message and email (I didn't get either). Curbside pick up was actually quite smooth. We did ask the lady managing reservations if my order has gone through and it had. I got the cactus flower chimichanga, my brother got the carnitas plate and I got the house special margarita to go. They look at your ID for the margarita. The chimichanga was very good - the sauce on it delicious. It had a cream cheese base. Big portion so took me two meals and a little bit more to finish. The carnitas was dry. Not the best thing we've tried. Portion was slightly smaller than mine. The margarita was strong :) they give salt on the side if you want to make your glass of it. I wasn't too convinced with that salt. So overall, decent, close to home, so more than likely, will go back.

Matt C.

Yelp
In town for a track meet stopped in for lunch glad we did. Combo 4 & Combo 7 both excellent chips and salsa on point. Now for grande finale when asked for dessert say YES I would like a sopapilla When asked would you like honey or cinnamon say BOTH. Cactus Flower should teach everyone how to make a sopapilla another 5 stars for the sopapilla alone. Bravo
google avatar

Yelp
I wish I could leave a zero. The worst Pork Green Chili I have ever had anywhere, plus it's expensive. I'm from Colorado and that chili had no kind of flavor not to mention it taste like crap. That was really disappointing being Pueblo Chili is my favorite. We live in New Mexico and had an appointment so we stayed at the Travel Lodge across the street. We wanted some good Pueblo Mexican food for breakfast, what a disappointment. Not recommended what so ever. BTW, the server Mercedes was the only bright spot, very friendly and polite.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Good salsa, great service and the entree was also excellent would totally recommend if you're looking for some good Mexican food and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
I pulled in here as I was heading south from Denver to New Mexico. The mexican place was really busy so I figured I got the right place, I had a combination which had a beef burrito, a chicken taco and a red enchilada. The enchilada was my favorite but each of the other items were tasty as well. Many of the people were drinking margs so also seemed like a good place if you like margaritas. The food was good and my service was even better. Always there to help out if I needed anything! So if your heading through Pueblo this place will not disappoint!

Ron M.

Yelp
We ended up meeting there today, Sunday for lunch. Parking lot was full, always a good sign, and the wait was 25-minutes, reasonable for the lunch hour. Food was good. Serving size was good. Service was good plus, most of the staff were easy to talk to. Prices are reasonable to a bit high. Ambiance was comfortable and the place was clean. (floors, tables, chairs, no lipstick on glassware, etc.) Tipping recommendations of 18-25% are always irksome. Yes, I do evaluate negative ratings. Not just what is said but the number of low ratings. I was not able to edit the previous rating and replace it with what is above.
google avatar

Randall B.

Yelp
Nice place. Good food. Moderate service. Friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Prices weren't crazy but not inexpensive either. All in all it's a place to visit, but maybe not frequent. Although worthy of mentioning the place was pretty full. The bar was pretty packed and there are televisions to watch games and events on. This could be pretty fun for a lot of folks. We tried the fajita combo plate. It came out sizzling! Lots of green peppers and onions but the meat was pretty skimpy. Still, it's enough for 1 maybe 2 people. Also tried the juice featured at the table. I went for the pineapple and it was delicious. Although at $6 a glass with no alcohol included I don't know that it was THAT delicious.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Stopped in after working late to try this Slopper plate I heard so much about. The parking lot was packed at 6pm on a Thursday night so we knew this place had to be good. With only a 30 minute wait due to the COVID capacity rules, we were finally seated. We ordered right away and we each got the slopper. Medium cooked 1/2 pound hamburger on an open face bun smothered in melted cheese and green chilly sauce, basically a deconstructed burger in a large bowl. I opted for the fries vs the beans & rice. If your looking for something to fill you up with some great taste, you have GOT to try the SLOPPER. We were not disappointed and I'm sure you won't either
google avatar

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
OK do not be scared off by the reviews here! I have been avoiding for months because to be honest, I was scared of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised, and the food was delicious! The chili has just amount of right spice and it was piping hot coming out. The pineapple margarita was on point! I had a combination plate because I wanted to try a little bit of everything and it all was fantastic! Definitely give the house special Enchilada a try! The green chili Chicken cheese combo was awesome with Christmas Chili!
google avatar

Bonnie B.

Yelp
I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews....pork carnitas was delicious! Slow roasted and crispy and served with shishito peppers and grilled onions. My friends has the house specialty chicken enchiladas which were also fantastic. Fast service and friendly wait staff.

Frieda F.

Yelp
Delicious food, nice spice level, very fresh tasting. Quick service and pleasant servers. Good prices too. A winner!

Bob W.

Yelp
Salsa and chips are very good. Thin like Lays potato chips. House margarita on the rocks hit the spot and combos 5 & 7 were delicious. Excellent service.

Kelvin R.

Yelp
Please don't come here at all. They charge you for everything and anything. This is not real Mexican food it's gross!! If you get water you'll be charged 99 cents for it. Avoid this place!!!

Judi S.

Yelp
We have a group of 4 to 6 women that go out for a meal once a week. Last night Four of us went to Cactus Flower in Pueblo,CO. I expected to have five and as they were setting up one of our group wasn't coming so I told the young man at the check in counter. He reach the person getting our table ready and she 'said fine just put them anywhere.' In a not so friendly manner. We were seated and as the waitress was taking our drink and appetizer order, we told her we needed separate tickets, she said that in order to do that one of us would have to pay with cash because they would only allow 3 credit cards per table because of the cost to the restaurant to run the cards. This is not very customer friendly. They set the prices and raise them frequently, they expect us to tip the staff and not are adding up charges to our credits and limit how many per table can pay with a card. They are a very popular eat so maybe they have gotten complacent in thinking the customer service is not as important as the small fee the credit charges them.

Lauren S.

Yelp
Food was awesome. Service was friendly and attentive. Didn't care for the lavender marg, but that's just my personal preference. Other than that everything was delicious.

Sandrine C.

Yelp
Used to be good, the food has gone downhill so sad. The service is ok , the ambiance does not feel the same either. We will have to find a different place for mexican food.
google avatar

Holly R.

Yelp
Was looking forward to eating here while on vacation. I had the Carnitas, and hubby had a #7 combo. My carnitas plate included grilled onions, grilled shishito peppers, carnitas, and rice (I chose not to have beans). The carnitas had a delicious flavor and the peppers were good. Although I appreciate a good side of grilled onion, the amount of onion overwhelmed the carnitas. The rice had basically no flavor and was undercooked. For the #7 combo I was told it was strange to eat a beef enchilada with avocado on it, not guacamole just plain avocado. Said the hot red sauce tasted good, the rest was not very good. Now the wonderful part: fried ice cream with caramel sauce......only dish we both loved. Our experience was very different that the Tex-Mex we are used to. And I know you'll say, "It was southwestern style silly" and yes were excited to try this style of cuisine and was disappointed.

Malissa G.

Yelp
So this would have been my 4rd time bringing a guest to this resturant. First impressions months ago great which is why I came back again, however this time not so much. My guest and I came for drinks which are pretty good. My guest asked if the bar is available it did look pretty pack, and my cousin did noticed a few empty chairs at the bar, immediately we were told that those seats are for someone as the front just all of a sudden recall, and told us it was a 25 minute wait. We did walk out and the young lady didn't seem to mind that 2 paying customers walked out. So my guest was not impress, we ended up going else where and had a good time. I would hope next time that maybe you would try to try to accommodate or possibly make an effort, The resturant had people sitting outside, in the car, fire hazard at the front as it was pretty cramped. Just thought I would put this out there as I am sure I am not the first.

Yelp
The food wasn't very good. Menu is extremely overpriced, and the cooks clearly have no idea what Mexican cuisine entails. First the tortillas: Tortillas are the threshold of authentic Mexican cuisine. I asked the waitress if they were made fresh in the store, she had no idea. If tortillas are being made fresh, everyone that walks through that kitchen would know. When they arrived, they were very clearly not fresh tortillas. I've had better tortillas at "On the Border" the commercially produced cousin of Chilis. I ordered a chimichanga, it was edible, but not anything I would ever order again. The sauce tasted like "wolfs brand chili", the rice was over seasoned and over cooked. The black beans were unbearable. My wife ordered the combo fajita plate. That was actually really good. I wish I would've ordered that instead of my dish. However, fajitas naturally require fresh tortillas to complete the dish which were not present. I'd rate the flavoring of the meat and fajita peppers at a 7/10 but without the tortillas the entire dish is rated 4/10. My children had the kids "Mexican grilled cheese". It's an ok quesadilla. Very basic tortilla with cheese. Not worth $7. The lavender margarita taste like triple sec and essential oils. Whoever came up with that idea should be flogged. Who the hell coin cuts lemon/limes for beverages? The point is to squeeze the juice out to flavor the water. Coin cutting is absolutely stupid for this application. Please go back to wedges. I've had a wide variety of Authentic Mexican cuisine throughout my travels. My assumption would be that this style of food was created by someone in Canada who read about Mexican flavors but never actually tasted an authentic Mexican dish.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way out of Colorado. Service was decent. We got the queso. If there's queso on the menu, my queso loving kids is ordering it before we get a chance to say yes or no we can order it. I don't ever turn queso down either, but it's just funny. Don't ask if we can get it, they are just automatically ordering it. Queso was good. Probably better than most places in Texas. The chips aren't complimentary here. I got the steak tacos. My husband got the green chili plate. I really liked the tacos, but I liked his food better. All in all it's a decent place to eat.
