The Odyssey: The best hotels in the Greek islands

"If you’re looking for something grand and extravagant, there are plenty of hotels in the Greek Isles to fit the bill. And with a name like Caesars Gardens Hotel & Spa, you’d think this one might be among the grandest of them all. But it turns out that what makes Caesars Gardens special is its small scale, and its relatively humble ambitions — this is no imperial palace, just 23 rooms in a warm and inviting mod-bohemian style, set amid rambling gardens on a hillside overlooking the village of Lindos, on the east coast of Rhodes, Greece’s easternmost island." - Le Guide MICHELIN

We stayed for one week at Caesars Gardens. It was incredibly relaxing. We had room 203 which was on the first floor. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spotless and very large. Breakfast was ordered from a daily menu and there was also a small buffet to choose from. The food was delicious. Pool was spotless and even though the hotel was full there was never an issue finding a sunbed. The jacuzzi area was also spotlessly clean and so chilled. A 15 min walk into Lindos each evening for dinner - 7 euros in a taxi back to the hotel or could scale the steep hill up to the road. All the staff in the hotel were professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. A really wonderful stay. Thank you

Having seen all the reviews for Caesars Gardens, my wife and I had such high hopes staying here for our honeymoon. We had saved up for well over a year to stay somewhere beautiful, relaxing and quiet. Instead, we were kept awake at night by loud music from the bar of the neighbouring hotel, about 20 yards away from our room, until 2am. We weren’t offered to move rooms, received no apology and instead were told it wouldn’t happen again during our stay, but unfortunately it continued throughout the week. We ended up sleeping with earplugs just to get some rest. Our last night was the loudest, and when we brought it up again, we were told the noise was out of their control. At checkout, due to paying over €500 per night and getting no sleep on two of those, we asked for some sort of compensation and were refused, instead they handed us a hotel-branded candle and the final bill. We were also surprised to see that despite paying over €500 per night we were charged for the use of 5 coffee pods during our stay. The manager was rude and dismissive and told us it was out of their control. While we agreed that another hotel playing music was an external factor, we highlighted that they shouldn’t advertise the bungalow we stayed in as sound proof. The manager’s response to this was staggering, claiming the bungalows are sound proof, “but sometimes you can hear noise.” While the grounds were beautiful and the restaurant staff were incredible, the lack of empathy and the way we were treated was awful. This was our honeymoon and all we wanted was a restful, special experience and some kindness when things didn’t go right. Instead, we left feeling exhausted, upset and deeply let down.

My stay at Caesars Gardens Hotel & Spa in Lindos was overall pleasant. The hotel is beautifully designed, very peaceful, and offers a relaxing, quiet atmosphere. Sunbeds are always available, and there’s a strong sense of calm throughout the property.|That said, there are several aspects that could be improved to truly meet the expectations of a luxury experience, especially considering the price point. The welcome upon arrival felt rather impersonal, lacking the warmth and attention to detail one would expect from a hotel in this category.|Breakfast was fresh and enjoyable, but the variety was limited and didn’t quite live up to five-star standards. The hotel is also somewhat removed from both the beach and the town, and the walking route into Lindos is not particularly pleasant. A complimentary shuttle service would certainly enhance guest comfort.|Cleanliness could also be improved. During our stay, we noticed ants in the room, and the fruit left as a welcome amenity was already overripe. |In my opinion, amenities such as a gym are essential in a hotel of this level and would significantly improve the guest experience.|Additionally, small details like extra charges for in-room coffee and rather high food prices impact the overall sense of value for money.|Overall, the hotel has a lot of charm and potential. It is a beautiful place, but a few thoughtful upgrades would help deliver an experience more in line with what one expects from a true luxury stay. I’m giving it 3 stars — not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because compared to other hotels in this price and category, it falls behind.

What a holiday!!!|We had an amazing time in Caesars Gardens and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. |With only 23 rooms this tranquil resort felt more like a retreat/sanctuary than a hotel. |All the staff including the receptionists, cleaners, bar staff, waiters and gardeners were all pleasant and very attentive. |The rooms were spacious, spotless and decorated to a very high standard. |The bedding, towels and cleanliness was pristine and the bed extremely comfortable. |No need to reserve sun loungers as there were plenty of these along with day beds in both sun and shade. |This is the ideal holiday to relax and switch off. |Plenty to do and see in Lindos whether you just walk into Lindos Village for bars, restaurants and shops or if you decide to hire a car to visit Rhodes Town, Pefkos or other areas.|An array of beautiful beaches across Rhodes along with the Acropolis to see. ||We will most definitely be returning. |Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

We stayed here recently for our honeymoon and I can say this is easily the most relaxing hotel we have ever stayed at. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped, the staff are really attentive and friendly and the gardens and views are spectacular! We had a 1st floor (top) room and we had views of the sea, the acropolis, the gardens and the mountains, it was absolutely perfect. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice of pastries, bread, fruit and yogurts with tea, coffee and water also available. The staff were always smiling and cater to your every need. The hotel is situated at the top of a hill, it's about a 15 minute walk down to Lindos's main square, which isn't too bad if you are relatively fit and mobile. The hotel has some resident cats and there is much more wildlife around with chickens and donkeys nearby also. It was genuinely absolute paradise for our 10 day stay and would have absolutely no issues recommending to others. We will definitely return for another visit soon.

Ideal honeymoon destination. We arrived late but were met by a hotel member who showed us to our room. |The room was cool, spacious, has a lovely balcony and a clean tidy shower room. The tropical water head was a great touch. |Plenty of choice for a waiter served breakfast. The staff were always friendly, helpful and not obtrusive. |The pools and sun loungers were plentiful, as were the brolleys. |Can’t fault this small luxury hotel at all. Looking forward to planning another trip here in the future.

We spent a week in May at the rather splendid Ceasers Gardens and had a thoroughly wonderful time! ||We stayed in their highest room category, the Mediterranean Suite which has all the outdoor space you could possibly need! Nice to see a parasol for those of us that dont want to be in the sun constantly and there were a variety of seating options to choose from. The plunge pool was far too cold to use at this time of year sadly, but dipping your feet in for a few seconds soon brought your temperature down when necessary. The room was spacious and beautifully styled, however we have never come across a bed quite so high - a step was provided to get in and out of it! We found it amusing but its not for everyone!||All the staff were very friendly and accommodating and seemed genuinely pleased to be there. Breakfast each day was a real treat, we also had lunch and dinner on a couple of occasions at the hotel restaurant- the food was consistently fantastic! Being a small property, there are very few people around at one time and the whole place has a gorgeous, tranquil ambience - very relaxing. No sunbed wars here! Oh and just on a side note, not sure if those lux sun loungers on their marketing photos were just brought in to dress the place, but they don't exist! Just your regular sun loungers round the pool, no deep cushions as advertised! ||Location was perfect for us, a 20 minute walk into Lindos, any further would have been a touch too far in the heat. We did walk back most of the time, but the uphill part as you come out of the village is a challenge after a big meal! Taxis are plentiful and only a few euros if you're not feeling up to it. ||There is a supermarket a couple of minutes down the road which stocks a little of everything, we also brought carrots every day and fed them to the two donkeys in the field on the way back! ||Hotel reception very kindly organised a rental car for us one day, we drove into Rhodes Old Town and went out to dinner the other side of Pefkos that evening. At €50 for the day it was great value and cheaper than a taxi. You can catch the bus from the bottom of the road but it gets very busy and obviously takes much longer.||We ate dinner one evening at Cesars Meze Bar in Lindos and would highly recommend it. Beautifully styled, gorgeous views and the food and drink were superb. We met the owner that evening, he came over and introduced himself, lovely chap - clearly very passionate about what he does. ||Lindos has a very special place in our hearts as we got married here 10 years ago, so it was amazing to come back and see how much is has changed. Ceasers was the perfect place to stay for us. ||A few observations that if addressed would elevate this lovely little hotel even further...|- There is a coffee machine in the room, but pods are chargeable, this is unusual in a 5 star hotel.|- 2 small bottles of water are provided each day, if you'd like more, it's also chargeable. Again, wouldn't expect that in a 5 star hotel.|- The shower temperature is a bit like playing Russian roulette! We also woke up one morning to no water at all.|- That bed!! Quirky but not very practical at all!||Our only real disappointment was that despite having emailed ahead to make them aware we were celebrating a special anniversary, and mentioning it again at check in as the lady didn't have any idea - there was no acknowledgement of this whatsoever by the hotel. The cleaners noticed we had cards up in our room the day after and left us a little note and some flowers they had picked from the garden - thank you ladies, you are a credit to the hotel! |

What a Fabulous beautiful peaceful setting just perfect for the holiday we were looking for. All the staff were so welcoming friendly and helpful and were there for you if and when needed. The gardens are beautifully maintained along with impeccable cleanliness and attention to detail from all the staff, in both the rooms and all outside areas of the hotel.|The breakfasts lunches and evening meals were outstanding along with the wine and service. We loved it so much we booked for next summer. We can’t thank you all enough as we wanted a peaceful relaxing holiday away from the busy life we have back home in the UK and you came up with the perfect mix and blend of care and attention with smiles and friendliness we so love about Greece, without it being false and forced as it can be in many other places and countries.|We are really looking forward to our return next year.|Thank you all so much |Barbara and Hugh from Manchester UK 🥰🥰🥰
