Since moving closer to downtown Mountain View, I've been frequenting this location of Café 86, to the satisfaction of my soul and the mild disappointment of my wallet. They offer a variety of drinks, from lattes to milk teas to shakes. Some of my favorites include the Mocha Latte and Ube Milk Tea. The only disappointment was the Mermaid, but I'm not a green tea drinker so maybe it's just not my taste. The drinks lean sweet, so for those who prefer less sugar than me (i.e. most people), you should adjust accordingly. Meanwhile, the desserts are just as diverse and delicious. I enjoyed the Ube Cashew Brownie and Milo Cupcake, but would recommend the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake for your first visit. One trend across their offerings is the use of Filipino flavors like ube, Milo, and sweet corn. It makes them stand out in the crowded cafe & boba market. On the other aspects.. the store itself isn't too big but is well-decorated. There's not much seating so most will just order to-go. The service is usually quick so that's not an issue. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Café 86, as I'm pretty sure you'll find something you like.

Ordered online. Seems like they forgot my order. And made the wrong order (I ordered no sugar but they gave me 100% sugar.) Appreciate that they made a new cup. However it’s still too sweet. I ended up throwing it away. The cheesecake is also too sweet, also threw away half.

I believe Cafe 86 is a Filipino dessert / coffee shop, with Ube as the central theme. I was not familiar with them, however my Filipino mate spoke highly of them. So I had to scope it out... Very, very good! Be mindful, if you get a bit too curious it adds up. $$$ This venue is cozy, not a lot of seats inside, mostly standing room and a few bar seats. Parking in downtown MV is a bit a bit challenging at peak times, so you might have to make a bit of a walk. Two young gals were running this place, sounded like they were enjoying their time here. Both of them were quick and efficient...Kudos gals! #UbeTreats: ~ Halo Halo: Upside Down Halo Halo - 4.5/5 I'm not sure what an upside down Halo Halo is as opposed to a right side up... lol. Guess I'm not sure what a Halo Halo is supposed to look like...I thought it was just a mix of ingredients and meant mix mix in Tagalog, either way, this was fantastic. Good Ube flavor with several so many treats: Coconut Jellies, Jack Fruit and Boba topped off with Corn Flakes, Ice Cream and Flan. Delish! ~ Baked Goods: Ube Tres Leches - 5/5 Filipino spin on Tres Leches. Ube Cake at the base soaked in some sort of Ube milk and topped off with Ube whipped cream! This was straight Ube on Ube. Good Ube flavor, yet not too sweet. ~ Baked Goods: Ube Leche Flan Cupcake - 4/5 Moist Ube cupcake topped with rich and creamy Leche Flan. Rich, but not sweet. ~ Baked Goods: Halo Halo Bread Pudding - 4/5 Ube flavored Bread Pudding with pieces of Jackfruit and shredded Coconut on top served with a scoop of Ube Ice Cream. This is dense and heavy, so be weary. ~ Milkshakes: Ube Monster - 4/5 Just a solid Ube milkshake. Rich and creamy Ube flavor, but not too sweet. The crushed Oreos give it a nice contrasting texture. So much Ube, so little time!

Google
Good that it's open late, mocha looked and tasted like a watered down nescafe, the one person in the cafe seemed not too happy about their job. I'll skip next time.

Everything is really sweet!! The ube tres leche tastes pretty good but I can't finish it all in one go since it's so sweet. I personally didn't like the frosting (whipped ube halaya and a crunchy layer of cashew meringue) so I took it off. I liked that they put a lot of extra liquid for the cake to soak up. The ube latte was ok. Tasted really sweet and heavy for me so I wouldn't get it again.

Google
Fun stop for an after-lunch treat. The Mermaid boba was fabulous - the mix of sea salt and jasmine tea was so unusual and delicious! We also tried the ube butter bars. Had great texture and interesting flavor, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff was super helpful with my first-time ordering questions. Welcoming seating areas to enjoy your goodies. You need to go!

Google
First of all, staff are friendly and helpful. I find everything too sweet , I still prefer the original Pinoy style halo halo , I find their halo halo too sweet and had too much ube, also had a distinct taste that i dont like, it had an overpowering taste of coconut milk .

Google
Nice spot for a quick ube grab-n-go. They've got a variety of desserts and drinks and they all taste excellent! Got myself the ube latte and the ube flavour really shines through! My friends had the coffee milk tea and the halo halo and they enjoyed their choices as well. Definitely coming back again to try out other stuff!

Yelp
Tried their drinks for the first time today. I got the Ube milk tea with boba. Ube flavor was just right and the boba was not too soft. My friend ordered the Ube Monster. I'll try that drink for next time.

Yelp
There was a woman making drinks and served the customers before me. She saw me but didn't ask if I wanted anything Then she left in the back. I asked if anyone was available and said hello several times I said excuse me again but no reply despite noises being made in the back I guess they don't want customers ? That's a shame. Ended up leaving and not getting anything since I wasn't able to get any customer service.

Yelp
This place has gone downhill. Ordered an upside down halo halo and it was served with no cornflakes. They ran out. And...they ran out of long spoons. The cornflakes are the star of their halo halo and impossible to get to the bottom without the long spoon. What really annoyed me is that this was not mentioned when we ordered!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while. They had one in Daly City but I never got to try it when it was closer to me. I just KNEW I had to try the Upside down halo halo, my goodness it is as good as it looks. I did get to bring some pastries home also. The service was great, I took a while because I was indecisive. The ambiance of the space was okay, it was a small little shop and for some reason it was hot asf inside. What I ordered: Upside down Halo Halo : 10/10 would order a million times, and I love the addition of boba Ube Truffles: Omg guys I bought a half dozen and my family and it was so dense we split it up into fourths to make it worth. SUPER GOOD THO OMG Ube and Mais Butter Bar: These were okay, they were good but why was I expecting more? Didn't really taste like a mochi butter bar, I guess thats why. Also everything is pretty expensive, small business ofc. But I still would recommend to try!

Yelp
The upside down halo halo is sooooo gooood. It's one of my favorite halo halo creations out there. Highly recommend subbing the vanilla ice cream for the ube ice cream!

Yelp
One of our favorite dessert spots in Mountain View! The upside down halo halo holds a special place in my heart. We get it without langka (jackfruit) only bc my husband is allergic. The ube ice cream is so delicious. We usually mix it all together but tonight we decided to eat the ice cream and cereal first. Such a yummy treat! The front staff were so nice. The online ordering system is so great. I sent these photos to my Filipino family and friends; they are so culturally proud and said this looks delicious! I would love to try the Mais Con Yelo next time.

Yelp
Came in to try their ube cheesecake bites and I am definitely not disappointed. I heard this location was the best one, so I didnt really bother to go for the SJ location and would rather drive all the way to Mountain View instead for quality. The place is small and cute, and the workers are so sweet and patient. Would love to come next time and try their drinks!!! But yeah the ube cheesecake... 10/10, I could prob eat like 20 of those in one sitting.

Yelp
My wife and I tried their Ube Leche Flan cupcakes and it was pretty good. Since my wife can't eat sweet foods, this one was not too sweet at all. We also shared a Halo Halo and if you will noticed, the ingredients are not like what you are accustomed to seeing within your traditional Halo Halo with the mung beans and all other beans you can imagine, so this is a nice sense of direction especially those who don't want those traditional ingredients in their Halo Halo. The Halo Halo was pricey though ($10) but where else can you grab one nearby unless you decide to drive to the East Bay and grab one from Milpitas or something. The young lady working there was nice and polite and we were the only ones in the store on a Wednesday evening including our puppy who was hiding inside our carry bag. =)

Yelp
If you are craving for sugar, you are in the right place! I mostly don't prefer to consume this much sugar on my drink but sometimes... You know ?? I don't know why but teashops prepare the drinks very slowly. Not this one !! They were very quick. Inside of the shop is very tiny, but cool. They are ube experts. Next time I will choose any other drink that consumes less sugar and will try their desserts!

Yelp
I have been seeing this bakery for the longest, but never went in. But today was the day & they'll definitely be seeing me more often. First walked in and was greeted by a girl with short hair wearing a hat, told her it was my first time and asked for recommendations, she went through the menu with me and suggested some popular items, very nice and patient. I went with the house milk tea and two ube cookies. It was made fast and I was in and out less than 10 minutes. House milk tea has a sea salted caramel I believe, it's salty and sweet on its own but when mixed in with the tea it is super delicious! However, the added boba itself is a little bit on the harder side. Now my favorite though was the ube cookies, FIYAHHHHHHHH. Sweet but not overly sweet, soft but not overly soft, perfect chew to it. I want a dozen right now! Overall, cute little spot, good service and good snacks.
google avatar

Yelp
The Ube butter bar was fantastic! The flavor was light, which meant it wasn't too sweet. It was extremely buttery that it melts in your mouth.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing customer service and delicious drinks! I've only tried this spot in LA and was so happy when I found out they have it here in NorCal and been meaning to try this location. The taste is the same and I love that it's consistent. Parking: Street parking but there's a free parking lot nearby that you can park and walk a few minutes to the store. I always get the upside down halo halo and it's my favorite! I've tried the normal halo halo but prefer the upside down one (the purple base one). Service: Quick and the girl working was so sweet!
google avatar

Alice W.

Yelp
Parking was free in front of the shop. However, I did not like the drink that much and the seats were kind of uncomfortable if you're trying to do a study session because it was on top of a stool. I didn't like the combination they added to my mermaid jasmine milk tea.

Yelp
We stopped by here to try their cheesecake, and while we were there, we also decided to try the flan. All treats here are ube-flavored. Both the cheesecake and flan tasted good.  We didn't try any drinks, but they do have a good selection of teas and coffee.  The staff was very friendly. The interior looked trendy, but the seating is pretty sparse. Stop by here if you like Ube-flavored sweet treats.

Yelp
We just finished dinner with some friends and since they had never been to Cafe 86. We thought we would introduce them to this place. The cashier was very friendly, helpful, and sweet! She explained what certain things were in the display case and just made our experience more wonderful. We told our friends to get the upside down halo halo. One liked it, the other liked parts of the drink. We also tried the Ube Butter Bar. It was creamy, thick, and had a good bottom crust. First time trying it and I would get it again! The Ube Crinkle Cookies are good also!
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
Ube Overload. Went here for dessert with my hubby and brother in law. We got the ube truffle and the lech flan cupcake thing and their special ube donut pumpkin? I also got the halo halo. I couldn't finish the halo halo since it's so sweet. Too much corn flakes.
google avatar

Kayley C.

Yelp
We looooove this place. Our go to spot for non-traditional Filipino desserts and to take our out of town friends/family to try. Their ube crack cheese cake is to die for. Service can be iffy sometimes, but otherwise the food is totally worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
I was brought to Cafe 86 after lunch to try their ube desserts, and it felt like stepping into an ube dream world! This cafe is all things ube, and with so many tempting options, it was impossible to pick just one or two. So, we went all in and ordered a bunch which totaled $31. Everything was pretty good, but because the desserts were quite rich, I only had a bite of each. The sweetness wasn't overwhelming luckily; just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth without being too much, even for those sensitive to sweets. Here's how I'd rank my favorites: 1. Ube Cookie: Soft, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. 2. Ube Truffle: Decadent, and packed with rich ube goodness. 3. Ube Monster Milkshake: Mix it before drinking. A bit heavy, I could only finish half of the mini. 4. Ube Butter Bar: Dense, rich, and satisfyingly sweet. 5. Ube Brownie: A bit too sweet, but nice balance of chocolate and ube. 6. Ube Leche Flan Cupcake: ok but I'm not a flan person The service was great, and I definitely plan to come back to try more. It's a unique dessert spot--perfect for those who love ube or are looking to try something new!

Yelp
After hearing about the hype, we finally came to try it out. My wife and I came yesterday during noon time and ordered an Ube cupcake topped with flan and two halo-halos. I'm glad we have a Filipino dessert place here in Mountain View now! It's a modern take on traditional Filipino sweet treats. There's not much seating so be prepared to either grab and go or find a seat against the wall which most likely you'll find one. The flan and Ube cupcake is decent tasting. I thought the flan was excellent and has that taste I love and reminds me of my mom's. The cupcake itself is dense and pretty dry. I'm not because it's inside a cold fridge? But it's pretty dry with a chalky texture. I don't care about it. The upside halo halo is delicious. Out of the two, this is my personal favorite because it's Ube dominant. I like the simplicity of corn flakes and jellies inside. I do however, wish there were red beans but either way is fine! The regular halo halo is brown sugar dominant and to me, tastes like a regular brown sugar milk tea. I'd definitely come back and try more! But for sure, the upside halo-halo is a must. If you're new to this place, order that!

Yelp
'86 Cafe 86... Tea drinks are mostly ice and light on flavor. They have house music that plays too loud, making the cafe not great to hang out at.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Cafe 86 always has $2 specials on holidays. Best deal on boba you can get. Got 4 drinks and they were all good and not skimped out on flavor. I got a strawberry calamansi, hibiscus calamansi, peach mango green tea and the rosie. All with half sweet which was good for me. Could provably do no sweet for the regular teas. Would recommend and be back.
google avatar

Katharine Y.

Yelp
Best upsides down halo halo (didn't know it's a thing but sooo good). It's the only we get from here now. The service was great, nothing to complain there.
google avatar

Aurelia R.

Yelp
I love the unique take on traditional Pinoy treats. The upside down halo halo, was unexpected for me, and was filled with all the traditional flavors with a little upside down twist. The staff were really friendly, and the cafe was super cute and cozy. I'll definitely come back when I am in town for work.
google avatar

Meghan R.

Yelp
Came to Cafe 86 to try their Filipino inspired desserts. The shop was small and quiet, ideal for a little catch up with friends. I got the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake and my friend got the Upside Down Halo Halo. Truly beautiful desserts, but both cloyingly sweet to point that they were hard to finish. The flan was delicious and helped offset the cupcake which was a little stodgy. If you don't have much of a sweet tooth, I would suggest sharing an order. Easy free parking in nearby public lots!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
My friends and I were drawn to this restaurant after seeing all the Ube flavored treats!! There are some small counter like tables if you want to hangout there and eat. The service was good and the music they were playing was even better. Everything we had was tasty. The Ube cheesecake and Ube flan were top tier. The truffle was also good, but I think the other desserts were better. They had halo halo and I think an upside down halo halo that I would love to try next time.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
Came here for nontraditional Filipino desserts! Cute cafe with indoor seating, went midday on a weekday and was not too crowded. Got their regular halo halo, upside down halo halo, hibiscus calamari's refresher, ube pumpkin spice latte, and ube cakes! Recommend sharing the halo halo and talk stories bc one can be a lot of sugar. The regular halo halo has a vanilla base while the upside down halo halo has a ube based shake. LOVED the calamari's refresher, the name does the citrusy refreshing drink well. Pumpkin spice ube latte was a little too sweet for my taste and the whole milk was hard to drink fully. Would come back if i'm in the area looking for a fun sweet treat!
google avatar

Viclaire S.

Yelp
We came after having a meal nearby and honestly adored the concept of the drinks and pastries here. The non traditional Filipino dessert vibes make you want to try everything. I asked for recommendations for a boba drink and was told the Milo milk tea. It did not disappoint!!! Stop and try some ube pastries! I'd love to come back on a warmer day and get their halo halo.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
So pricey and sweet-- got the Halo Halo which was almost 11 after taxes, insane for the size. The breakdown: I loved the Ube Ice cream, it went hard-- not too sweet and the texture was icey, which I loved! The smoothie part was also good-- but too sweet for me. The flan was insanely sweet to me but the Frosted Flakes were a great texture addition with the other soft aspects of the dessert. Boba was okay but the jello was not hitting for me. They have an interesting menu, lots of options but probably wouldn't come back as it is far too pricey for what you get.
google avatar

Holly H.

Yelp
This place has the best ube desserts! And really unique desserts that you can't really find anywhere else. We always like to get the ube tres leches and ube leche flan. They also have a combo deal right now: buy 4 of one type of dessert (ube leche flan, ube crack cheesecake, ube truffle, or ube crinkle), get a free hibiscus calamansi drink. My friend got this and said it was good! We also tried a new dessert, the halo halo bread pudding. There's a slight banana flavor, it's pretty tasty! It also comes with ube ice cream, which you can get on the side if you're not eating it right away. I also like to get the upside down halo halo if I'm feeling up for a bigger dessert. The corn flakes provide a really nice crunch and texture. It's surprisingly easy to reach all the different layers and get a good spoonful of everything. The shop is pretty small, and there's only some bar seating, so it's probably not the best place to hang out for too long. The workers are always very nice and quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Calling all my ube lovers!! Perfect spot to get unique ube pastries and/or refreshing drinks. It is located in downtown mountain view/Castro so it is a perfect place go get dessert after a meal or a nice hangout spot with friends. The store is a bit small but it has a cozy atmosphere and is clean. They have limited bar seating around the perimeter of the shop. I ordered the upside down halo halo and the ube tres leches cake. The halo halo was super delicious. It was an ube milkshake with ice cream and various toppings. Super filling so it is perfect to share with a friend. The ube tres leches was alright. It was not as moist as I hoped. I think I would get a cupcake or some other pastry next time. The workers were quick and friendly.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Love all their ube desserts. One thing I like is that the ube flavor is strong, but the overall dessert is not too sweet. My favorite combo is the flan cupcake. Flavor and texture wise it's my favorite. I like being able to order ahead of time for pickup. This one is at downtown Castro in MV and parking could be alittle tricky at times. I do appreciate more locations opening up in the South Bay. I'd love to see more ube desserts variations included and added into their menu. If you go here a lot joining their rewards program is a good idea. It seems like when you given a reward it will work throughout the system at any location.
google avatar

Mitali A.

Yelp
The ube tres leches was good, soft, exactly how it should be. The frosting felt a bit suggery, but the crispy cashews on top were the best part of it. The service was pretty quick and has few high tables for you to hang out.
google avatar

Tocrazypup H.

Yelp
The jasmine green tea was amazing! The perfect balance of tea and orange flavor from the orange (I can't spell calamance) juice. The place is really small with only seats up by the wall. It isn't an issue for me but if you are looking to sit with a large group this place would not work. The drink I got was not even their most popular drink and I was truly amazed by it. I can't wait to go back and try their other drinks!
google avatar

Adriana M.

Yelp
My mango peach green tea tasted like hand sanitizer! The vibes in there were also so off. I didn't appreciate not having my name called after my order was made. I did get a full refund for my order. Parking was difficult. Just a bad experience all around.
google avatar

Marilen R.

Yelp
Love all things Ube so this was my kind of cafe. My fave was the ube cupcake with the leche flan topping. It had a deep ube flavor and the leche flan was a nice topping. Second was the mini ube cheesecake which also had a strong ube flavor. My kids and I had the halo halo however we all felt it was too modernized, with the cornflakes and green and red jellies. We especially could have done without the cornflakes as it gave it a maple flavor and too much crunch. We like the classic halo halo with all the beans and various coconut jellies and bits. The ube ice cream and piece of leche flan were great though. Always here to support Filipino owned businesses and ube desserts.
google avatar

Allen W.

Yelp
Service was fast and the menu is big! They have lots of drinks and baked goods and even some savory sandwiches if you're in the mood for that. There are some chairs and tables along the walls - not too much seating but downtown is a nice place to take a stroll. The drinks were quite sweet - no adjustment for sugar.
google avatar

Fernanda T.

Yelp
The ube taste is so strong and i LOVEE that. The pastries were so delicious i regret not getting more. The spot is located in the downtown area so it's perfect for a quick stop. 100% visiting again.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place because I love ube desserts, and this place is filled with ube-flavored menu items! I got a drink and a dessert: - Upside Down Halo Halo (4/5): A sweet treat! I got the upside down halo halo, which has an ube base. The ice cream and flan on top were delicious, and the corn flakes tasted like Frosted Flakes and made me feel like a kid all over again! I'd recommend eating the top with a spoon and sipping the rest with a straw. I wasn't the biggest fan of the boba and the jellies at the bottom. The taste wasn't really appealing for the jellies, and I think some of them were cut too large, as it was really hard to suck them up even with the wide straw. I would've preferred if it were a tad less sweet because near the end, I started to feel a bit sick from the sweetness. - Ube Leche Flan Cupcake (4.5/5): The soft texture of the flan paired well with the texture of the cupcake. The ube flavor was definitely there, and the caramel notes from the flan paired well. It's a bit small with limited seating, but when I went on a Saturday evening, it was easy to find a seat inside as it wasn't crowded. Prices are a bit high, sitting at $8.75 for a mini halo halo and $5.25 for the cupcake. It's definitely a place I'd take to treat myself if I'm feeling a sweet craving.

Yelp
Delicious drinks! We ordered the dragon berry calamansi and this was so delicious! I was able to drink the whole beverage which is usually not the case when I have a drink in hand. To describe the drink, it tasted similar to lemonade with a citrus-y taste from the calamansi. Overall, a great experience.

Yelp
- good food - good drinks - hip atmosphere Service is good, staff is nice, drinks and food are unique. Good Filipino representation! I recommend any of the Calamansi drinks for citrus, Ube for coffee, and any of the pastries.

Yelp
This spot is made for Ube and Filipino dessert lovers. They have a variety of desserts for your sweet tooth. I ordered: - Ube tres leches 5/5. Must try. Moist flan cake that's not too sweet and captures the ube taste. It's also topped off what I believe is a cashew crust meringue. - turon poptart with jackfruit pieces. 2/5. I've never had turon before so I thought it would be a good intro as I was expecting a nice fried sweet banana. Instead it's like a simple apple pie.

Yelp
I am so sorry that I came in 38 minutes before closing time. 4/18/2025 8/19 PM. I wish I could return this cupcake. Cashier ruined the experience for me.

Yelp
The small upside down halo halo was the best I've ever had! Staff was helpful on deciding on something. Cute trendy spot w/ photo ops and cool to sit and chill.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night close to closing time. Quaint cafe with fun decorations and a quirky yet cozy feel. Was craving halo halo and also ordered the ube butter bar per the cashier's recommendation. The butter bar was 5/5, really yummy, soft, almost melting in my mouth, and full of ube goodness. Not anything groundbreaking, but a solid choice for a quick baked ube goodie. The halo halo, however, was a 3/5 for me. I enjoyed the texture of the corn flakes as an unusual add to this classic Filipino dessert, but much was left to be desired in the emptiness of milk between the jellies at the bottom and the toppings at the top (I did mix the drink as best as I could). Really wish there were beans to fill out the drink proportionally. Also, the milk was reeeallly sweet and strangely maple-y which caught me off guard. Giving a 4/5 since service and ambiance are good, and there's def more items on the menu that I want to try. Grateful to have a Filipino cafe close to home, hoping with revisions to the halo halo recipe this place becomes a 5/5 for me!

Yelp
Bring your halo halo loving family members here to impress them! Halo halo is my mom's absolute favorite dessert and will practically order it anywhere it's served, so when we were in downtown Mountain View I knew we had to stop by here. The upside down halo halo is must order. Its modern take on the classic Filipino dessert replaces the chunky ice with an icy ube milkshake and layers all the best toppings you'd find in a traditional halo halo. You've got all the sweet jellies, corn flakes, leche flan, ice cream scoop, and they even add boba. It's conveniently served in a cup with a wide lid, making it easy to mix while being mess-free. Another popular item is the ube leche flan cupcake, these put them on the map when they first opened their stores in socal. The flan and cake is on the more firm and dense side, but still decadent and easily shareable.
