Google
The upside down halo halo - it’s sweet and yummy! It’s a perfect dessert to share if you don’t want all the sweets for yourself. Flan and ube cupcake - ok The flan was way too firm and not smooth. I love flan, so wish it was better. Besides the flan, everything else was good. I’d skip the flan and ube cupcake and go for the upside down halo halo!

Kathy LC

Google
For a Filipino, I do not like halo halo but Cafe 86's Upside Down Halo Halo is the only halo halo I will eat. Definitely try! Other faves from here are their Thai Tea Monster Milkshake, Ube Leche Flan Cupcake, Ube Tres Leches & Ube Truffle.

Google
First time coming here this past weekend and I had a 50/50 experience. All the sweets are over priced, my drink tasted like water (hibiscus calamanci) and the boba felt like slime. My lady’s drink was immaculate (strawberry calamanci ) which I’m happy for… I was super disappointed because I love their SJ location which my go to drink is their strawberry calamanci. I hope in the future it’ll be better…

Google
I love ube and would get anything ube here! I had the ube milk tea with almond milk, the ube truffle, the ube butter bar, and the ube Pop-Tart! I traveled a bit far and definitely wish I could order put the butter bars and truffles to be shipped to me!

Google
Got the upside down Halo Halo and it was so delicious! Loved the coconut jellies! So many different textures and flavors!

Google
Nice deco and disappointed they ran out of the ube Halo halo purple. So we decided to get the brown sugar halo halo halo. It wasn’t what we liked. Maybe next time. Please, get the distribution on track. As always post wherever your palate takes you.

Google
First time I experienced this cafe 5/23/25. Grade A, not just the food but customer service is elite, and the waiting is great. My nephew loves UBE. And the moment he tried the UBE brownie and the Ube milk tea, and Ube Tres Leches. He said aunty this sooo good. More of this review. Go try it for yourself and support small ACTIVE businesses. ChefKai approved. 🌺

Google
Ordered plenty and so far, SO GOOD. Iordered the Upside down Halo Halo, the Hibiscus Calamansi, Mermaid Milk Tea and most of the treats lol. Upside Down Halo Halo...AMAZING. The cornflakes tasted so good and the ice cream on top, so good. Husband's Hibiscus Calamansi, refreshing, sweet, and nothing seemed to overpower each other. Kids Mermaid milk tea was nice, Jasmine notes. Kids inhaled the Chocolate coffee crunch cups and the Banana Langka cups were smooth. Haven't tried the other items yet (need to ease up on the sugar load😉) but can't wait.

Yelp
Cafe 86 | Union City 1. Upside Down Halo Halo -- coconut jellies, jack fruit, boba, froasted flakes, vanilla ice cream, and flan 2. Milk Milk Tea 3. Ube Leche Flan Cupcake & Milo Cupcake Café 86 in Union City is a dessert and boba spot known for its Filipino-inspired treats and creative drinks. We ordered the Halo-Halo, which was refreshing and packed with layers of sweet ingredients, the Milo Milk Tea (IFYKYK), and the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake, a rich and creamy dessert that perfectly combined ube and caramel flavors. Everything we got was phenomenal! My family & I enjoyed every single bite & hope to come back soon to try the rest of the menu!

Jeff M.

Yelp
My friends and I visited on a Saturday night to find a fairly large crowd at Cafe 86. Luckily parking was not too tough even though the lot was small. I ordered a Chamoy Mango Slush. This drink was okay. The mango flavor was a bit light; and you couldn't really taste the Chamoy spice. We also got an Ube Butter Bar. It was "not-too-sweet" which I appreciated, but the flavor was too light. The bottom crust was not as crunchy as I had hoped it would have been. I forgot my lactaid, so could not order the Halo Halo nor ice cream. I'll definitely come back to give it a try if I'm in the area.

Yelp
My friends and I came to Café 86 to satisfy our sweet tooth, and it was such a fun experience! They got the Upside Down Halo Halo, which they finished in one sitting hahaha. I went with the Ube Flan Cake, but unfortunately, it was a bit dry. Maybe it's because I came two hours before closing, so I'd probably skip that next time. One cool thing about this spot is that they have card games you can rent out to play. You just hand your ID to the worker, and you're good to go. It's a great place to hang out and enjoy some yummy desserts!

Valerie T.

Yelp
I've known about Cafe 86 ever since they opened their first few locations in SoCal and was SO EXCITED when they announced they were opening in NorCal, and so close to me in Union City!! If you love ube, you HAVE to go here. Their entire menu is a heaven of ube. I've tried several items here, and I would most recommend the ube truffles and the ube crack cheesecake. I also wouldn't recommend getting drinks here - they're known for their desserts. The ube truffles were super decadent and flavorful - a slight crunch on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. The ube crack cheesecake was a decadent cheesecake with a crumbly buttery graham cracker crust. I've brought these to holiday parties several times and they've been a hit with everyone!

Sherry Y.

Yelp
Came here after dinner and there was no line. However, after we ordered, there was a long line to order. We were able to get a table before the crowd. Staff were friendly. Ordered the regular sized upside down halo halo. It did take awhile for it to be ready. It was good and wasn't too sweet.

Heidi C.

Yelp
My main feedback is about the wait time. It seemed like they were short-staffed on the night we visited (a Saturday). I don't blame the storefront for this, as it was unfortunate that there was such a rush of people. It was my first time coming here, and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I ordered a regular halo-halo and ended up waiting for 1 hour and 15 minutes. I didn't expect such a long wait, but the dessert did make up for it while I waited for my drink. As for the drink, it was good, but I wouldn't wait that long for it again. I'd probably go to Sunright instead.

Kaelin N.

Yelp
Maybe I didn't get the right thing, but there was no "wow" factor for me. I think I would have been happier with a milk tea from a neighboring store for a few bucks less as well. There just wasn't as much ube flavor as I wanted. Nothing was memorable to be honest, so I haven't been back.

Rachel L.

Yelp
This review is solely for the drinks I tried. I had the ube milk tea and my mom got the coffee milk tea. We both ordered 50% sweet. My ube milk tea tasted like 150% sweet. It was unbearably sweet I could only take three tiny sips before throwing it away. I added egg pudding and really enjoyed the texture of it but it was hard to actually taste it because of the drink itself. The coffee milk tea my mom said was "not bad," and I definitely enjoyed her drink more than mine. I'm willing to come back and try their dessert items in hopes that they will be better! Service was quick and easy up at the cashier. Drinks came out within a few minutes. Place is quite spacious with a good amount of seats and it's uniquely decorated!

Rae M.

Yelp
I live far from this place but I will travel here whenever I'm craving one of their desserts. I've tried their the crinkle cookies, ube flan cupcakes, truffles and their upside down halo halo. My favorites are the truffles and the upside down halo halo! The truffles are really decadent and buttery. The upside down halo halo is soooo good! Ube ice cream, flan, and Frosted Flakes! So yummy!

Rheina C.

Yelp
Love this place! Came here on a Monday night for some sweet treats. They have various options and tons of Ube! Personally love the Milo milk tea with boba and the milo cupcakes. If you like chocolate, I'd highly recommend! We also love the Calamansi juices they offer if you're looking for something more refreshing! The staff is really friendly and welcoming and same with the entire cafe. It's a cute, smaller sized cafe, maybe enough to seat 20 people altogether. We will definitely be back as we love the Filipino fusion treats and the drinks!

Gabrielle E.

Yelp
Food is amazing! Quick excellent service! The guy that helped me was very friendly and made me feel welcomed upon arrival. I asked for his name so I could give him the proper credit he deserves. I wasn't sure what I wanted to order but JC quickly gave me a couple of recommendations. Which was super helpful! Food was amazing as well as the drink. I had a great experience here, as it is only my 3rd time coming in. It was a very positive atmosphere and I will be coming back soon :)

Angeli S.

Yelp
Ube goodness!! A few things we got to try: -ube tres leche: yummy! It was topped with a cashew crunch which added a bit texture that just made it better -pop tart turon: this was good, but not my favorite. The pastry itself wasn't too sweet which was good and balanced the sweetness of the banana but I felt like something was missing - Milo cupcake: love me a chocolate cupcake. The cake was moist and you can taste the Milo chocolate flavor in the frosting - pastrami sandwich: this was super good. Lots of meat inside and the mustard wasn't too heavy. Would def come back for this panini - sea salt coffee: simple and good. Although I didn't taste much of the sea salt Staff was really friendly and helpful.

Maddie M.

Yelp
This place is so cute. The drinks were good. I had the upside down halo halo and it was so yummy with the corn flakes. I also tried the strawberry calamansi juice and it was good with fresh strawberries. There was lots of seating indoors and they served us quickly!

Antonia O.

Yelp
Awesome snack and dessert place! I tried their ube leche flan muffin and the ube pudding and I love it! All the staff were so nice and attentive. The place is nicely decorated and clean. Highly recommended.

Emily G.

Yelp
This is a review for the booth at Filipino Island Fest in Alameda. There were long lines but I really wanted something to drink in the heat. We decided to get the strawberry calamansi cooler and the dragonberry calamansi cooler. They were 16oz and $6 each. I never had dragonberry before so I wasn't sure what to expect but it's supposed to be similar to melon or kiwi. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor as it mixed well with the calamansi. You could taste the dragonberry really well. The strawberry was a little harder to taste, maybe it needed more syrup? It was tart but didn't taste much of anything but calamansi. Overall, I enjoyed drinking both!

Alyssa C.

Yelp
I love coming here! Was in the area and decided to stop by and get halo halo. I like their halo halo because it doesn't have beans. I'm not a fan on beans in the traditional halo halo but that is just a preference. I ordered the ube cheesecake with their skyflakes crust. When I read skyflakes I was confused because I never associated sky flakes with a dessert but it paired really well with this cheesecake. Also, they ended up giving us a few ube truffles and flan ube cupcake for free as they were trying to get rid of what they had so that was nice! Thank you Cafe 86 for always having good service and delicious treats!

Elaine S.

Yelp
Came in and the cafe was not as busy than I am used to. Service was quick and fast. We were in and out with 10-15 mins from ordering. Desserts were immaculate per usual. Can't wait until the store opens closer to home.

Manny G.

Yelp
Nutella Iced Coffee was on point. Small shop in a strip mall. Besides the coffee being great, it's all about customer service. I'm not going to go into detail, but I will say the act of kindness that was demonstrated by the staff should make the owners proud. I don't care what your favorite coffee spot is. You need to give them a try next time you are craving coffee. Let me say that again. GIVE THEM A TRY!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Cafe86 is known for its halo-halo, and I went because my friends wanted to check it out. I was excited, though, because they have a lot of boba options, and I love boba! Since I'm not really a halo-halo fan I tried the ube milk tea instead, even I'm also lactose intolerant -- and it's pretty worth it! I also had one of their pastries, which was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my friend got the ube cake and that wasn't too sweet. The location is pretty convenient with ample parking and usually isn't too packed. The staff were super nice, happily recommending things and helping us decide. The place had a great vibe, and if you're a halo-halo fan, it's definitely worth a visit. If you're like me, you might prefer their boba and other treats.

Trina W.

Yelp
Came in for an after dinner dessert. The parking at the place where this is located is pretty small so I can see that finding parking can get difficult at times. Once you enter, you can either order with the cashier or through a tablet on the right side wall. The menu is surprisingly robust for most things having Ube. We got ube milk tea, milo milk tea, and Ube leche flan. Everything was good but nothing memorable. What I liked: - Ube! - There were a lot of unique drinks on the menu. What I didn't like: - There's only one size for the drinks. - The cost of substituting soy or almond milk is almost $2! - The Ube leche flan was pretty dry; both the flan and the cupcake. We'll probably come back again when we're in the area to try other things in the menu. The halo halo looks pretty good.

Trinity N.

Yelp
I have been meaning to come to this spot for awhile now and it did not disappoint! I made great conversation with a staff member Daidrian who helped me with my order. Heads up! Their drinks are not too sweet, and just perfect at reg. sweetness. My friends and I got the House milk tea but I wish I grabbed a dessert because they had a couple of treats i've never seen before. I will be coming back to try more of their drinks & snacks. This is also the perfect place to study since it offers that mellow ambiance.

Izzy T.

Yelp
Delicious and refreshing drinks, but I will say the calamansi flavor isn't as strong. Can be overpowered by the berries pretty easily, the mahalo mango one also wasn't super "mango-y" but it still tasted good! The ube tres leches had a layer of frosting on top that was a little too sweet but the tres leches cake part was moist and had a very strong ube flavor! Service was fast and only took about 10 minutes for our drinks and food to come out! There's a few tables inside to sit at and it was pretty busy when we went by.

Chris M.

Yelp
OMG! These folks have just amazing Filipino sweet snacks! The chef is famous (TV, food competitions, etc) and we really like their small baked items, ube and otherwise, and Halo Halo! They have this 'upside down' Halo Halo that is quite good, too. It is mostly a take away place but has some seating. We live this place!!!

Ivy C.

Yelp
This was my first exposure to halo halo. I gotta say it was a very sweet experience too!! I remember coming here when it was night and also when there wasn't that many people. For around $10 after tax, this is pretty worth!! Service was standard. Just ordering with a cashier and they'll call you whenever the order is ready. I liked how there was a lot of toppings that were included inside. Giving a special shout out to the flan and jellies!! The boba was also cooked until really soft and it was so chewy. Also got a ube cheesecake and that did not disappoint. The bottoms of the cupcake had graham cracker crust!!!! It's soo good and the filling was so soft and cheesy!!

Marc C.

Yelp
The first time I tried Cafe 86 was in Pasadena years ago. I was surprised they had expanded to the Bay Area. They probably have one of the best halo halos in the area. Don't expect a traditional halo halo though. I like the touch of Frosted Flakes as it adds a nice texture to the dessert. There's also some boba, which isn't in your traditional halo halo. I noticed they didn't have the sweet beans - which I think is a pro and a con. Some prefer it, some hate the thought of beans as a dessert ingredient. Other pastries are not too sweet. If you're an ube lover, you're in luck, especially if you enjoy leche flan as well. Do keep in mind that just like with all other dessert, too much of it can get tiring. Luckily, they offer two sizes for their halo halos.

Rona S.

Yelp
This is the place to be for halo-halo! I have gone here many times since opening and I always see myself going back for that upside down halo-halo. They have other desserts in the case, with majority being ube flavored. I have tried the ube flan, ube tres leches, and ube crinkle cookies. All were just okay. The place is small, with a couple tables and chairs and plenty of parking in the front shared with other stores. The lines can get long but the service is quick.

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I have been wanting to go back to cafe 86 since I went in socal. We came here after getting some dumplings at din ding dumpling house which is literally right across the street. They have a variety of drinks and ube goods. We got an ube cheesecake, ube butter bar, and I got the milo milk tea drink. The ube cheesecake here is great, super fluffy cheesecake and yummy ube flavor. The ube butter bar is like ube halaya on top of a shortbread crust. I really enjoyed the milo milk tea! I forgot how much I liked milo! You gotta come here if you want some ube dessert!

Noel K.

Yelp
The hype of this place has finally slow down. When it first opened, there's always a long line inside. My favorite item on their menu is their Ube Truffles. It's an Ube ball of delicious, topped with Oreo crumbs. Some may think it's overly sweet because it is. Just basically a ball of sugar and butter. Yum! They also have variety of Ube treats, ube flan and ube crinkle cookies.

David C.

Yelp
I decided to indulge today in a milkshake, which I haven't had in a while, and I was surprised by how nicely balanced the shake was. I've always felt that milkshakes got to be too overwhelming in sweetness near the end, but I really enjoyed the cookie butter milkshake since it had the speculoos flavor and the creaminess of a milkshake, but throughout the shake it tasted nicely sweet. Ordering can be done either through kiosk or through the counter, and the counter workers were super friendly, greeting us with smiles. Since milkshakes take a while to make, there was a slight delay in order probably being from other people in the store, but the wait was worth it.

Vania B.

Yelp
Love having Filipino dessert options in the Bay! They offer so many ube goodies from cheesecakes to cookies to pop tarts. Got the ube milk tea, honey b milk tea, and ube leche flan cupcake this time. In the past, I've also gotten the ube cheesecake. Ube milk tea was good since you get the ube flavor and it tastes fresh, rather than artificial. Honey B milk tea is a good, classic honey milk tea. Ask for less sweetness because it's quite sweet. Ube leche flan cupcake was ok. It was very wet and sticky. I prefer the ube cheesecake which has great taste and texture. Came on a weekend afternoon and it was busy. Not much seating here and it's pretty loud with the music + guests if you sit inside. Parking can get crowded since it's in a small plaza.

Kimberly N.

Yelp
One of the most delicious and unique desserts in the area! This place made me dream about their Ube drink for days! This location is inside a plaza and parking was easy. The staff is friendly and the decor is fun. The drinks here are absolutely delicious! They also have several desserts but we didn't try them...yet! Our favorite drink was the Upside Down Halo Halo. It comes with Ube base Halo Halo, Coconut Jellies, Jack Fruit, Boba, Frosted Flakes, Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and Flan. This drink was perfect. Very well balanced and flavorful. It is big and my husband and I shared one. It was perfect for us! We stopped by another location the following week because we had been dreaming about the drink and got to try the regular halo halo which comes with the same ingredients above but not an ube base. The upside halo halo takes the price. If you are around a Cafe 86 location, give this drink and some of their desserts a try! You won't regret it.

Diane T.

Yelp
The halo halo here is different than others so don't expect your typical ! The toppings are super yummy. If you're coming here to compare to Che, the Vietnamese dessert, just know that they are two very different things. To each their own, I wouldn't compare them as both are unique in their own way :) fast service and the Fourth of July deal was a bonus!

Kaila S.

Yelp
Great treats and very delicious ube desserts! They have other filipino inspired drinks and snacks. The ube butter bar is my favorite with the way it melts in your mouth. The staff were very helpful with helping me decide what other things to try. If you do get the halo-halo, just know it's not the typical halo-halo. It's almost like a milk tea slushy with lots of toppings.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
This place is one of my all time favorites because they sell ube. Stupid inflation, now the ube cupcakes with flan is now $4.99. Everything looks the same and clean. The service was slowly because there was only two people working.

Ethan N.

Yelp
Great cafe! I tried their sandwiches, which were fresh and flavorful. The dragonfruit calamansi drink was refreshing 10/10. I was a huge fan of the upside-down halo-halo. It had great presentation. Definitely worth a visit for anyone in the Union City area.

Xavier Y.

Yelp
I've been coming to Cafe 86 for my Ube fix for a couple of years now. They always have friendly, professional staff and great desserts! My favorite is the Upside Down Halo Halo, it is thee best! My other favorite drinks are their Strawberry Calamansi Cooler and Kouki Monster Milkshake. They are currently under new ownership and the service and quality are still up to par. You guys need to go here and check it out! PROS: Delicious desserts and friendly service! CONS: Sometimes it can get crowded and there is not enough places to sit on busy days. TIPS: Order online through the TOAST app to get your order quicker. They do not accept American Express credit cards, so make sure you use Visa or Mastercard

Kevin V.

Yelp
A great place to come get a sweet treat. We ordered 2 drinks and they both came out very fast. Also the staff is so friendly! A great twist on the Halo-Halo. I would definitely come back again.

Rich Q.

Yelp
Awesome little Filipino inspired dessert place. It's a small but warm place on a cold evening. They have a large digital menu board once you walk in located to the right. We've had friends try this place out and recommended the HaloHalo and HaloHalo upside down dessert. HaloHalo is a dessert made up of a mixture of beans, jackfruit, jellies, coconut and other topping that I can't remember at the moment that's all with some shaved ice, condensed milk and topped with ice cream. We tried the upside down version and it had some type of blended Ube blended with ice, the bottom had a mixture of sweet jellies and boba, then topped with a vanilla ice cream scoop. It was pretty good. Tons of jelly and also had some cereal on it that reminded me of Frosted Flakes. I didn't like the cereal much on it so I'd probably order it without and less jellies next time. Alll n all the dessert was good and most definitely shareable after a nice dinner. The workers were super nice and informative. They needed a little pick me up though. All that sugar they're serving and no spunk? lol they were super nice. Oh and there were Ube cupcakes with some flan on top of them that we wanted to try but just way too full from dinner. Looked really good and will have to come back to try. Great amount of other drinks but I think we tried their best seller as we seen almost everyone grabbing the upside down HaloHalo.

Alexa A.

Yelp
Came here specifically for the upsidedown halo halo and it did not disappoint!! I'm definitely wanting to come back to try their pastries and other drinks. It's worth the drive! Service was fast, even though there was a line already at opening. The shop itself is small and cute :)

Isabella R.

Yelp
I am a huge ube lover, and this place hits the spot everytime! My brother introduced me to this place and it never disappoints. We took our family from out of town here and they loved it! We made sure to try the Upside Down Halo Halo, which was amazing! The ube was delicious! We also got the ube truffle which is my favorite item from here. It was so cold the night we went, but no matter the weather, you can catch me eating halo halo! Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu!

Rigel C.

Yelp
This guy is freakin' disrespectful and doesn't know customer service. You can say that you guys are closing in a nice way not banging the freaking chairs. That made the customer just stood up and make their way out the restaurant. If you're tired working ur ass whole day just quit the freakin job dude. I know being a server is hard but please don't be freakin' disrespectful. They even gave us the wrong drinks and not give the freakin dessert. What the cause u guys were pissed? Wth please train these freakin people.

Kayla P.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and I loved it! I liked that you didn't have to mix it as much as you normally would and I really enjoyed the consistency. I also loved all of the toppings.

Ivan C.

Yelp
Been going here for about 2 years now. A must is their upside down halo halo. Perfect sweetness. Good amount of toppings inside. Can't explain how delicious their halo halo is. Ube truffle is great. Perfect sweet ube brownie. Service was great, very fast and polite workers. Welcoming us in. Even if they're busy they will still keep a positive attitude toward their customers. Great customer service. Great place. Great lighting inside. Very spacious for big family or parties. Very clean inside.

Kyra M.

Yelp
Way too sweet. It could have the potential, just reduce the sugar. Maybe? Their drinks are good, but I can't enjoy them because the sweetness from the cupcakes are overpowering it.

Jerry Y.

Yelp
Best halo halo i ever tried, ube truffles are great too. Cafe 86 union city is one of the best snacks and boba place to visit.

Shirley F.

Yelp
Was in the area and decided to grab a few UBE desserts to go. I was honestly IMPRESSED by ALL of their drinks and treats! Upside Down Halo Halo - The BEST I've ever had, loved the cereal, jellies were large so use a spoon Ube Crack Cheesecake - This was DELICIOUS, full on UBE flavor Ube Tres Leches - This one was ALRIGHT, exciting to try out the idea Anyways, I definitely recommend y'all stop by and try out their Halo Halo and desserts!

Cathy B.

Yelp
This place is literally a gem!!!! This place has been on my bookmark and finally got to go after watching the owner getting featured on Padma's show. My boyfriend and I had an early dinner and was craving desert in a Friday night. When we looked through Yelp we saw that cafe 86 is open late! We got the halo halo and an ube butter bar. Everything was so yummy. The halo halo has a lot of good ingredient and the ube flavor was very tasty. I finished the entire thing myself! The ube butter bar was moist and delicious! The service was friendly and quick! And the vibe in there was very cool. Lots of photo op! Really got me in touch w my Filipino culture. Will def come back and try other treats!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I've been to their Pasadena location years ago, and so I was so happy to learn that they opened a location in the Bay Area. This location was just okay. I remember the desserts differently in Pasadena--although it was a while ago and a different location entirely. We got the ube tres leches and the ube butter bar. Ube tres leches--overbearingly sweet. The sweetness overpowered any ube flavor and had me craving for some water Ube butter bar--was too hard to cut with my plastic fork (my fork broke so I had to get another one lol). Definitely let it thaw for a good 15-20 minutes before attempting to eat it as it is chilled before serving. Service was friendly and the actual store is cute. I do want to come back and try some of their other desserts, but I don't see myself getting the tres leches or butter bar again

Rochelle G.

Yelp
Place is super cute, giving sort of an oldies retro but modern day cafe. My fav is the matcha monster, their desserts are so tempting. Makes me want to buy them all! (I am an ube lover)
