"I note Cafe Abyssinia as another Ethiopian restaurant mentioned among establishments reclaiming African culinary traditions in New Orleans, representing the broader presence of African diasporic eateries in the city." - Megan Ulu-Lani Boyanton

It was our first time eating African food. I was nervous at first. But our server helped guide us. We had the Doro Wat. Which was an amazing. Has a little heat, but not unbearable. The service was good, got our food quickly, and the taste was amazing.

Easily the best Ethiopian food in NOLA and slightly more affordable. Awesome friendly vibe. Safe neighborhood. Easy parking. INSANE flavor! Loved the vegan combo! I’ll be back with my buddies tomorrow!

THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD OMG!! I was like man, I’ve tried Asian food, Latin American food, European cuisine but never African and this was an amazing introduction. Great vibe in the restaurant too.

I wanted to try Ethiopian so I went to this place not far from my hotel in lower garden district. Was able to get a convenient parking space, which can be tricky along Magazine street. Fairly simple menu, decent food. I got vegetarian plate. Spicy flavors but not overwhelming. Reasonable prices. Somewhat limited menu. I thought the food was good. Electricity went out shortly after I got my food, so this prevented them serving more people. Inside area and outside area under a large tent w picnic tables.

Absolutely outstanding food and service! Sam, our waiter, was terrific. He guided us excellently through the menu and suggested exactly what we needed. Dora wat and the veggie combo with coffee was our dish and it did not miss. Will come again soon. Must try!

I have eaten here on multiple occasions and all have consistently impressed me. This restaurant is unique to the area and it's atmosphere is very relaxed with respectable service. My partner and I do very much enjoy this spot and it's awesome Ethiopian food. We started with Veggie Sambosas that are perfect: crisp fried creamy potato and carrot. For our entree we shared the Lamb Wat which has just enough of a kick if you are looking for that slight heat.

Me and a friend shared the vegetarian and chicken combo with two coffees. Each bite was amazing. Flavors were diverse and rich. I'm new to Ethiopian cuisine, and I'm glad I finally tried it out. We each spent $25 before tips, and I came back home with plenty of leftovers after being stuffed. No need to cook tonight! Please check this gem out.
