I was in Vegas to see the Eagles and Shania Twain. We stayed at the Paris because our friend likes to gamble and usually gambles enough to have the room and food comped. This was my second stay at Paris. The first time was many, many years ago. The hotel has definitely aged. The lobby and some of the restaurants are still beautiful. Cafe Americano is undergoing a remodel, so the restaurant is currently too small for the number of guests. This made the waits long. Unfortunately the food and service also suffered. There were some really bright spots with one or two servers, but we had breakfast here 5 days in a row and a few late night desserts, so there were some pretty poor spots too. The breakfast omelet is good, but there are only so many days in a row you want to eat that. The breakfast potatoes were never hot, or even warm. I think they cook a huge batch to have them ready to go, but why? I tried the Cuban sandwich (yes, for breakfast) and it was lacking flavor. Finally I tried the fried chicken sandwich on the last day (also for breakfast because I was tired of the breakfast foods). That chicken sandwich is awesome and probably the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had! I also really enjoyed the chocolate cake one night after a concert. The cake is delicious but then they cover it with Hershey’s syrup, which is so unnecessary. Most of the waiters seemed grumpy, or perhaps they were overworked. It was hard to say. It’s a good thing they are revamping the restaurant. Hopefully that will give it a renewed energy.
