I visited Café Amri about 10 years ago, and I remember absolutely hating it. The cinnamon rolls were terrible, the canned corned beef and hash were awful, and I didn't have a single positive thing to say about the place.
Because of that experience, I refused to go back--until my wife convinced me to give it another shot while we were in the shopping center. I hoped they had improved over the years, and while parts of my meal were okay, I can now say for certain that I won't be returning again.
For starters, the coffee was terrible. I'm not sure what they use, but it tasted like motor oil. The cinnamon roll? Still as bad as it was a decade ago. Knowing my expectations were low, I played it safe and ordered a simple chorizo and eggs with beans.
The eggs and chorizo were okay--not great--but they ended up being the highlight of my visit. As for the beans? I took one bite and left the rest on my plate. They tasted awful.
I didn't bother complaining because I doubted a second serving would be any better. I ate about half my meal and called it a day. I genuinely don't understand the allure or the glowing reviews. This is definitely not a breakfast spot I'd visit again.
Maybe I'm just too picky, but when I'm paying $60-$70 for a simple breakfast for two, is it too much to expect a meal I can actually enjoy?
