New Names Push the Boundaries of Santa Barbara’s Craft Beer Scene | Eater LA

"The Oxnard outpost of a cafe is closing this weekend and marking the departure with a public flamenco-and-tapas party, turning the exit from an underused food-hall space into a festive send-off open to anyone who shows up." - Farley Elliott

My friends, this place is great for breakfast. They have menudo on the weekend, your traditional Mexican and American dishes, just like moms cooking. If you're in the area, make sure you stop here and try it for yourselves. Like I've said before, listen to your food souls and enjoy good eats. God bless you all, my brothers and sisters.

Ordered a wet burrito and it came out amazing! The salsa verde’s flavor was amazing and the cheese pull when I went to take a bite was so satisfying. I noticed on the menu they also have bottomless mimosas here and looked around and saw people brought a friend for that which makes me want to come back with a group next time to enjoy the full experience. The atmosphere felt lively without being overwhelming, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Definitely planning a return visit for brunch and mimosas!

IYKYK this is the brunch spot! There's a line depending on what time you get here. FOOD 4.5/5 Homemade cinnamon rolls = 5/5 - Soft, fresh and not overall too sweet - it's' perfect! Chile verde "wet" burrito = 4/5 - The verde sauce is delish! AMBIENCE 4/5 Great spacious spot and clean ambience. SERVICE 5/5 Awesome service and they consistently come around to ensure your coffee cup or drinks are topped off. Very attentive and friendly! PARKING 5/5 Easy parking esp since it's in a large shopping plaza

They know how to cook here. The food was great, almost perfect across the board; The cook understood how to cook a burger patty to the correct level upon request (within regulations of course) & the fries are out of this world. Ample portions and relatively low to average cost for a surplus of good food. Atmosphere is a bit generic and there is an odd insistence about seating in the establishment but it wasn't overly busy so seating flexed a little for us. Overall, 4/5, would recommend.

Google
The overall quality of the food was excellent...EXCEPT for the supposed mocha coffee which seemed to be something from a truck stop machine. More hot chocolate than mocha. I had the French toast in-house combo special: Very good slices with a bunch of banana, strawberry slices, blueberries and whipped cream. The "combo" added 2 eggs and bacon. Whew. Anyhow, the HUGE cinnamon roll was OVERKILL - too much of a good thing. Went home and took a 2-hour nap. That's proof of too much good food. I'll be back.

Google
What a nice place to enjoy a meal. The staff were all friendly and the food was delicious. The restaurant was clean and the seating was comfortable. They have the tables separated so you don't feel like other people are sitting on top of you. The cinnamon rolls are so darn good! The food tasted fresh, and the potatoes O'Brian were cooked to perfection!

Google
Went in for a table of one. They had a section for two people and one side being a booth seat. Ordered the bottomless mimosas, had refills before I set the glass down. The ribeye steak and eggs was delicious. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly and was even better than some steak houses I've been too. My server was attentive and checked to make sure my food was cooked properly right when it came out which I am not used to. Kudos to this place for being amazing. Also, it was packed which leads me to believe others feel the same.

Google
Great breakfast! Got the chilaquiles and a side of corned beef hash. Everything was cooked to perfection! The corned beef hash was especially good! Cooked to perfection, crispy and savory. Would definitely recommend for brunch! Thank you for the experience! Visitors from Texas!

Yelp
We're on the late train for trying this place! Everyone always talks about it but we never put it in our circulation. Until we finally did!! And let me tell you, we've been missing out!! It's our fave breakfast spot!! Husband says it's the best chicken fried steak he's ever had! I've done waffles, French toast and pancakes. It's all delicious!! Don't forget the cinnamon roll!! They are so good!! We go at least once a week if not twice! We went on Sunday and they had menudo. I was hesitant to try it and the waitress offered to bring me a sample of it!! She brought a small bowl of it and it was delicious and I ordered it. Love this place!

Yelp
Have been here for breakfast a couple times. Great big area, perfect for a family meal or going out with friends. Have only come here for breakfast. Good menu selection, and they have generous portions. The food is good, but the food is always a bit bland when I go. Favorite dish I've found so far, though, has to be their chilaquiles. Parking was easy - huge lot right out front. Wouldn't be my first choice for breakfast, but it's a solid choice when you're in the area.

Yelp
Charming neighborhood cafe with specialty drinks and standard American menu options. The country fried steak was slightly less than average for me. O'Brien potatoes were undercooked, there was a strong greasy flavor to the eggs, and one of my over medium eggs had popped in the plate, not allowing it to cook properly without being encased. Details that add up. Service was alright; need to check on patrons in addition to taking order and delivering. Likely a fantastic spot for locals, but I will be exploring other options in the area instead of returning here. The holiday decorations did catch my attention, though. They did a really nice job making the restaurant look festival in an elegant way.

Yelp
Consistent Good food and good service Could be the best breakfast in town, in my opinion

Yelp
Rainy day in the 805 and decided to catch breakfast at Amri's. The Owners are our neighbors and we have been coming here from the very start. Unfortunately today will probably be our last visit. The service was lacking from the jump. Orders were taken and drinks arrived. The Orange Juice that was served was bad (Spoiled). Had a really bad taste. The server asked if we wanted a refund right out the gate. we just were telling her before she served anyone else. She tood the juice and tried it herself and agreed it was bad. Then our breakfast arrived. Some were hot some were not. The potatoes were hard and uncooked. All minor things. However, with the price increase lets get it right or make an attempt to correct. Finally as we were wrapping up the bill I couldn't believe a 20% charge for a large group. It was just my family of six. Nothing special was given. But a $28.00 service charge. The server as she brought the bill stated you don't have to Tip me we already built it in. Well thanks. As if I was. $200 bucks for mediocre breakfast at best. too many options in the 805 to deal with this type of non-sense and greed. Tipping should be based on the service provided. Good or Bad and left up to the diner. Greed on the other hand is a direct reflection of the Business. Sorry, Irma (Amri's) you lost a loyal customer today.

Yelp
I visited Café Amri about 10 years ago, and I remember absolutely hating it. The cinnamon rolls were terrible, the canned corned beef and hash were awful, and I didn't have a single positive thing to say about the place. Because of that experience, I refused to go back--until my wife convinced me to give it another shot while we were in the shopping center. I hoped they had improved over the years, and while parts of my meal were okay, I can now say for certain that I won't be returning again. For starters, the coffee was terrible. I'm not sure what they use, but it tasted like motor oil. The cinnamon roll? Still as bad as it was a decade ago. Knowing my expectations were low, I played it safe and ordered a simple chorizo and eggs with beans. The eggs and chorizo were okay--not great--but they ended up being the highlight of my visit. As for the beans? I took one bite and left the rest on my plate. They tasted awful. I didn't bother complaining because I doubted a second serving would be any better. I ate about half my meal and called it a day. I genuinely don't understand the allure or the glowing reviews. This is definitely not a breakfast spot I'd visit again. Maybe I'm just too picky, but when I'm paying $60-$70 for a simple breakfast for two, is it too much to expect a meal I can actually enjoy?

Yelp
This place has pretty good food, although in all fairness I thought it's a little pricey for the location and for what they have to offer. It's located in an office park so there is ample free parking. There didn't seem to be any other restaurants nearby, so perhaps that's the reason they charge a bit more. However, it's not totally unreasonable and the food is very good. I ordered the Mediterranean Turkey Burger for lunch, which comes with a choice of various sides. Nicely, they have several options such as fruit, cole slaw, etc, so you do not have to have french fries with your meal unless that's what you want.

Yelp
Cafe Amri is located at the tiny Oxnard Outlet. Plenty of parking in the big lot. It's next door to Social Security Office & a private gym. Food was great & Customer Service was great too! Despite seeing many patrons waiting outside, we still put our name on the list. Anticipated & waited 25-30 mins on a Sunday morning. They close at 2pm, which is why they can be busy. They serve Breakfast & Lunch here, so lots to choose from. Breakfast portions are huge. After many years, I'll still order the Chicken Fried Steak & even the Chicken Chicken Fried Steak. It's a pretty heavy meal. Next time I'll definitely split a plate. Was craving some Fluffy pancakes, so that's what I got.

Louis W.

Yelp
Great service...very poor explaining the bill??? Service charge, tip, and 28% table...? Was not explained.

Yelp
Friendly service with a family vibe. Spacious restaurant with its own style. Cafe Amri is a word play on their owner, Irma. This is a family restaurant through and through. I've tried a selection of their menu which has a mixture of your classic American with a bit of their take on Mexican cuisine as well. They serve breakfast and lunch. Their monte cristo and cinnamon French toast are a favorite!!

Barbara M.

Yelp
Charming cafe serving a variety of dishes with many Mexican choices. Great servers. Will go back next time I pass through Oxnard.

Yelp
Always friendly and always tasty! Spoke with Irma today and she's a delight! Hence the name Cafe Amri (Irma backwards). Came in to treat my mom to breakfast. Pretty busy crowd for a Friday morning. Grabbed some coffee and flavored creamer along with an order of chicken chicken fried steak. Never had that before only chicken fried steak before. But it was rich and delicious. Perfect gravy flavor and texture! Was surprised to see how busy it was for a Friday morning. It was a crowded house. But we were seated rather quickly and our food came out in good timing. This was the first time for my mom but she said she was ready to share with her friends.

Yelp
When you turn a corner into an almost completely strip mall parking lot, one is wary. But also hopeful because you know the cars there came specifically to eat. In this case at Cafe Amri. Smart people! Service was excellent. They were busy but attentive. Thank you Joanna. The food was over the top delicious. I know it was over the top because my husband mentioned multiple times how good it was and gave, what for him, was a detailed review. Do not miss out an opportunity to eat here. We can't wait to visit Oxnard again so we can.

Francisco D.

Yelp
Chilaquiles were crunchy and the bacon crispy. What more can you ask for, well my server Jacqui was helpful and attentive! I had never been here before but will definitely be on my list for returning. It's next to SS office and very good parking with a comfortable environment. The only thing was I forgot to take a picture of my plate. A definite place for breakfast!
google avatar

Ramin A.

Yelp
Food is very average, nothing special. I had the huevos rancheros and the sauce tasted like ketchup. The menu is overpriced for the quality of the food, not going back there again.
google avatar

Phillpe K.

Yelp
great breakfast great service decent prices big menu large restaurant with plenty of parking bottom line: go there
google avatar

Zulema P.

Yelp
Food and services are always great. My favorite dishes are California omelette and ribeye steak & eggs.

Jaxon A.

Yelp
Food was not fresh or homemade. You can tell it was canned sauces. The menudo was very bland. Not even tapatío, lemon, and cilantro could help it. Charged me 5$ for a Nesquik (chocolate milk), it was a small bottle. Ordered a hot chocolate and never received it. Our waitress never came around, couldn't ask for it. Overall service was not good. Price not worth the quality of food you get.
google avatar

marissa l.

Yelp
I've been here many times before and recently was reminded on how I use to come here a lot . I've always received good and friendly service here. First time trying out a patty melt. Realized it's pretty much a cheeseburger but on toast lol. But the grilled onions and cheese pulled it all together. I love hashbrowns so I switched out the fries for them ! Came in last week and had their Machaca plate and that was on point ! Loved bell peppers and onions in it. Also had to have hashbrowns with that too of course.
google avatar

Leti J.

Yelp
The service was good. The waitress was extremely sweet and attentive. However, the food was a little cold. The tortillas did not taste good, but it's more of an acquired taste. You are able to ask for regular tortillas, as I was told. The coffee was excellent. We were a large group of 15, which could be the reason why our food was kind of cold, the owner stopped by to make sure everything was good. and still, it was a good experience. Very nice place to celebrate a birthday or any kind of reunion. All the food was very good.

Marilou P.

Yelp
Food and service is top-notch here! We always make it a point to dine at Cafe Amri whenever we are in Oxnard because we can count on our meal to be a pleasant and satisfying experience. We celebrated Father's Day with brunch today and we weren't disappointed in our choice of menu items this time around. I had the machaca plate, which had tender shredded beef scrambled with eggs, onions and peppers. The refried beans were definitely homemade and super tasty. My mom's favorite, the seared ahi salad was just gorgeous filled with fresh vegetables and a generous portion of avocados. The ahi was seared just right with a delicious seasoning on the crust. Everyone else ordered either the chicken fried steak (with chopped sirloin) or the chicken fried chicken served with a delicious gravy and some of the best hashed brown potatoes (perfectly crisped and seasoned). We'll be back as Amri never disappoints!

Yelp
Food Service is always amazing here ! My daughters and husband always want to go here when we decide to eat out. The price of the food is affordable and the amount of food that just comes with an entree is amazing this is my go -to breakfast spot all the time I love it here especially the owner Irma, she is so amazing and kind.

Yelp
Great place to eat in Oxnard, very friendly staff and the food is amazing too. My wife and I enjoy coming sometimes just to talk and enjoy a cup of coffee.
google avatar

Randy A.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow. Food wasn't as great. I believe the food was overpriced. We ordered chilaquiles that were dry and the red sauce wasn't that good. Also, fried chicken and waffle. Waffle was good. Chicken was seasoned and a bit overcooked. Just a bit sweeter than what I expected. Food was mediocre at best. Won't go back again.
google avatar

Saul R.

Yelp
After coming here for a few years the food was great and so was the customer service fast and friendly. Everything was great. Omelette was good and hash browns was delicious. Pancakes were delicious too. Nice place grab a bite if your in north Oxnard or by the 101 freeway. Plenty of parking.

John B.

Yelp
Had a wonderful pork chili verde omelet here and good coffee. So filling that I skipped lunch and didn't miss it at all. Solicitous and charming server. And conveniently close to 101. Will definitely return next time I'm in Oxnard.
google avatar

Alan A.

Yelp
Just had the best fried chicken in my life! Wow! I love this place! This is where I bring my family, and where I have all my business breakfast/lunch meetings. The service is always great! Alexis was very kind and friendly with my young kids.
google avatar

Yelp
Cafe amri is a hidden gem in oxnard's dead premium outlet that became a home of business and county businesses. The food was stellar, I had ordered the chicken fried steak and it was slap yo momma good. The server was tentative and brought me arnold palmers so fast I was hydrated no matter what. The place is clean and a decent size, it also was not too busy but yet had a good amount of folks in there so very nice to see a place like this do well in a very empty outlet. I would go again to try their many other selections!

Marie J.

Yelp
Food was decent, service was fast, but they put us right in the back area, when there was plenty of seating in the front section. We were the only ones there in that section, and I could not help but feel we were singled out.

Dave T.

Yelp
Service was super. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was great and the portions were huge. First time eating here but we will definitely be back
google avatar

Yelp
Really happy to have discovered Cafe Amri because of my coworkers. A large group of us came for breakfast and from start to finish the experience was 5 star worthy! There was a group of 15 of us and they sat us in their back private room. Definitely organized and they sat us right away. Anytime you have a group this big you'd worry there are bound to be some mistakes. However, I was so impressed with how efficient the staff were and all of our meals came out within 5 minutes. Did you know how hard it is for a restaurant to perfect this so that we could all eat together? Really grateful that they provided us with a nice dining experience without all of the awkwardness that usually comes with having "too big" of a group. Everyone's order was correct & the food was on point. I definitely give them credit for having such good service and that alone would want me to support this business to come back. I felt that our business was appreciated and that all of the servers were very attentive to us during our two hour breakfast. They have a much larger menu than I expected which I feel is great because it can meet even the pickiest eaters needs. It was really hard to narrow down our choices but a lot of their Mexican breakfast options looked exceptional so most of us went in that direction when ordering. I had the Chilaquiles with red sauce and they were definitely fantastic! Also got the home fries with a side of ranch and that hit the spot. Extra carbs always right? But seriously the food is really good here I'm excited to come back to try more of their options.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
The staff is very friendly! The food is tasty. The portion size is average. The price is high. My wife and I each got one entree for breakfast. After tax and tip it was $50!
google avatar

Christian Michael Peter P.

Yelp
Great food and service like usual ! They have a crew that all helps each other which is nice for quick service!

Anissa R.

Yelp
The food and service was great! My 3 year old ate her whole plate of pancakes egg and sausage which is rare!

Yvette M.

Yelp
I had been there several times and always thought it was good , these last few times especially yesterday after church, i ordered two plates and side of bacon and OJ and bill was 82 bucks and had basic chorizo and eggs which was just that. My niece bill was around the same only they had a drink each and her mimosa that was 10 was not even filled to the rim, i can say i will never go there again .
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Great food with great and friendly service. We have been coming here for years now and have never had a bad experience. Give Cafe Amri a try!
google avatar

Genneah F.

Yelp
My meal was excellent! Let me say that I took my meal to go. My refrigerator managed to break down and I wanted a hot breakfast. Unfortunately, they were extremely busy and I could not get through on the phone. Just stopping by, the hostesses helped me quickly and were very polite. I received my meal within 15-20 minutes and was off! The restaurant was clean and well appointed so the staff could work efficiently. It is a wide open space covering 2 units and may not be as cozy as some would like. But the food and friendly service definitely make it worth a try for a family or group breakfast/brunch!!
google avatar

Douglas M.

Yelp
Wow $80.00 bill for 3 people including a $12.00 tip. Order was for pick up. 2 orders didn't get pancakes funny I got the extra syrup. One order was with O'brian potatoes but got hash browns. Another order was chicken chicken fried steak that came with 2 pieces one big and so thin I couldn't see chicken in it all the breading and the small piece had very small piece of chicken inside and again all breading. When I called it was no big deal they'll just give me credit so what does that do for me now. I don't even know how to express how disappointed I am
google avatar

Blanca F.

Yelp
We came for breakfast , my little family . We ordered chicken fried steak , chilaquiles, pancakes , etc lots of food . It was all perfect ! Our Waitress was sweet and on point , place is clean , people are happy and everyone has a smile ! This is my favorite spot for breakfast !
google avatar

Peggysue T.

Yelp
The food was excellent. My husband and I split the chicken friend chicken. It was so tasty. It came with potatoes, fruit, and a pancake. Our waiter Alvaro was awesome. He was so friendly, kind, and so sweet. He was very detailed in our request. This was our first time here. Right by our hotel where we always stay. We will be back.
google avatar

Yareli R.

Yelp
DRINKS+FOOD They have different flavor mimosas! They don't fill it close to the rim at all so my impression of the restaurant went down a bit. Burrito with sausage eggs cheese and side of pico de gallo was really good! My husband doesn't like pico de gallo but he liked this one lol. Overall this dish was yummy! Cinnamon French toast is for anyone who has a sweet tooth! I didn't like the butter on top tho. If u think it'll be like a cinnamon roll from cinnabon it's not lol it's more on the dry side so I believe that's why they add the butter??? ATMOSPHERE It's a small restaurant. It was basically packed when we got there but the fact that I noticed there was no music playing... the energy of the room was low so they really should play music. The interior of the restaurant is out of date so going based off prices I think they should lower the price just a bit. Our waitress was attentive and she had a good attitude so I love good customer service even when it's busy :)

Yelp
Ooooooo steak and eggs was so delicious. Cooked how ever you like it. Coffee great as well as service. I'm going back!!!

Larry P.

Yelp
Service is good as is the food didn't like that I had to pay an extra $5.50 for 5 eggs because of shortage come on I came for breakfast don't they come with eggs. My bill was nearly $60.00 with tip didn't notice the $5.50 till I got home and read the receipt. should of brought my own eggs????

Bob A.

Yelp
My son in law went there this morning spent about $25 and left a $4 tip and he heard the server say that he so cheap could not of left $5 tip this isn't the 1st time I had friends tell me this that there servers are complaining about tips I will never go back there and will my family and friends!

Keith W.

Yelp
Family biz with great comfort food and prices. Service was personable and food came rather quickly. I will be back.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant on the north end of Oxnard. Ordered the eggs Benedict with extra hollandaise sauce. Quality ingredients and well prepared. All of the food is tasty and appetizing. It's a good size restaurant and plenty of parking. Service is a little above average. Get there early popular place. Prices are very fair given the quality and location. The Bennys were $13.25. Hueveos rancheros $12.50. Buen Provecho!
