Unorthodox Spices Meet Chocolate and Pastries at Intrigue’s New Capitol Hill Cafe - Eater Seattle

"Cafe An’Clair has replaced the Eltana bagel shop in the Amazon Apollo building. In addition to coffee and espresso, the cafe serves food like breakfast sandwiches with ham, cheese, and egg; salads; and other sandwich options like caprese and a beef bulgogi with sriracha mayo and mozzarella." - Megan Hill

I’ve been coming here for over 6 months, and I really appreciate the consistency of their matcha lattes. They allow you to customize your sweetness and have many options such as honey, agave, vanilla, etc. It’s a great grab and go place! Seating can be difficult to find and tables are limited.

The lattes here are great and they ask you the level of sweetness you’d like. The financier pastries are a nice treat and also don’t taste as if they were loaded with sugar. I had the turkey, egg, and cheese sandwich and it was delicious! The staff always welcomes you and they also say goodbye when you leave. Atmosphere is pretty chill.

Got an iced vanilla latte with a blueberry scone. The scone is pretty good, it’s not super sweet and has a nice crispy exterior but soft inside. Iced vanilla latte is good, the espresso has a good flavor profile too it, but was slightly too sweet from the vanilla. Overall, pretty good!

Café an’ Claire is a great little coffee shop on the first floor of a building. The place is nice and wide open, although it’s not what I would call cozy or intimate. It’s more of us sterile, corporate feel, but they do have seating inside and outside it’s really nice. The do offer specialty drinks which I really like and I ordered the Spanish latte. It was really good. They said you can order half, 3/4 or whole sweet depending on your sweetness level. I would imagine you could even go below that. The breakfast sandwich was excellent. I had the egg and cheese on a brioche bun and it was great. The staff is great and extremely friendly and helpful. I recommend!

Great spot for a quick well prepared coffee and tasty breakfast sandwich! Baked goods are a top notch experience. Freindly quick service fairly priced. No disappointments here, not one. They know their business!

Disclaimer: My review was solely for service and atmosphere but not coffee as I only ordered a bottled tea to go. We stopped here for a quick breakfast and coffee before the Amazon meeting. We enjoyed the convenience of being right near Apollo and having a big table to work for a bit. A+ for a work friendly environment!

The staff was so friendly and helpful! They gave great suggestions and explained the sweetness level of their drinks. I ordered an iced Spanish latte. The sweetness can be controlled in this drink, but I like my drinks on the sweeter side so I didn’t make any adjustments. It comes with a cinnamon stick on top which I thought was cute. Other drinks our group ordered were a caramel latte, hazelnut latte, and I ed chai. The chai was delicious and I loved my Spanish latte! We also ordered the egg and cheese sandwich which was ok, nothing special. I think their drinks are more of the highlight.

overall, cafe an clair is an aesthetic coffee spot in SLU with very average/below average food. the food was decent overall. i had the avocado toast, the yuzu financier and a spicy chai with oat milk. the avocado was not good. the bread was thick and it was not toasted (??). the amount of avocado on the bread was too much for a bread of that size. no seasoning at all, just some red chili flakes on top. the crust of the bread was hard to chew through, but the white part was too soft (it was collapsing under the weight from the avocado). for $9.75, i would not recommend this avocado toast at all. the yuzu financier did not taste of yuzu at all, just almond cake. but it was very good. I liked that the financiers were bite sized and you could try a couple of flavors for those. they tasted fresh. the spicy chai with oat milk was good. for people looking for ‘authentic’ chai, it was not ‘authentic’ but nonetheless, it was very good. it was not too frothy and had the right amount of spice. service was good. the ladies at the front were polite and friendly. service was quick, no issues with the service at all. atmosphere is actually really good. it’s in SLU but it’s not cramped at all. the interior is monochrome white. the chairs are nice and cute and they’re placed by the window so they get enough sunlight. some bigger tables (4-6pax), but mostly tables for 2. it feels like a comfortable place where you can work for a couple of hours. overall, cafe anClair needs to work on their avocado toast but it’s a good place to relax and have your coffee/put in a couple of hours of work. I would recommend to people working in downtown for a quick coffee stop or for a corporate/work 1:1 (but only for beverages!)
