I've eaten here before - it was fine. The indoors is a bit small, but had a quaint feel; it was enjoyable. Having eaten there recently, though, my sense of the place has changed completely.
- The prices are too high. They attempt to offer dishes that seem 'fancy' and high-end, but ultimately, merely placing an exotic flower on every other dish and every cocktail does not an exotic experience make!
- The parking is bad. An unfinished, dusty, rocky parking lot enters on the right side of the building, and apparently (as we found out the hard way) exits only on the left side.
- The service was merely okay. The servers would say they're going to bring you something you requested, then completely forget it two or three times. They brought the completely wrong dish to one in our group, only to retrieve it after a couple minutes.
- The food was awful. The pasta dish with red sauce was so overly salted that I could barely drink enough water the rest of the evening to be free of a substantial sense of thirst. Again, when I had the leftovers a couple days after, I noticed it even more - truly terrible. At least one other in our group said the same later; I'll check w/ the others to see about their food. It simply seems not worthy of the prices they ask (& why can't they simply pave a parking lot with the profits?)
Are they trying to rely on the over-imbibing in alcohol to dull the senses (so they don't notice the un-great service and overly-salted, unspectacular food?
Pretty sure I'll not be frequenting Cafe Assissi ever again.
[The Commonwealth next door is usually a fantastic meal, though... It's really 'rustic', but the food is great.]
