Cafe Aurora serves the best brunch on Orcas Island - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"We’re all for ravaging a bakery like flour-crazed raccoons, but sometimes a sit-down mid-morning meal is the move. Enter Cafe Aurora, the Orcas Island diner that reigns supreme between 9am and 2pm. They cover the basics, and they cover them well. There's a reliable breakfast burrito kicked with sambal aioli, a bananas foster belgian waffle toeing the line between brunch and dessert, and a smashburger with such a powerful gravitational pull it could almost compel us to forgo a trip to Buck Bay Shellfish Farm. (Almost.) The expansive, dog-friendly patio is also a big plus. Especially if the occasional tater tot brings your pup great joy. Food Rundown Breakfast Burrito It’s stuffed with everything you want, and nothing you don’t. Submerge in the provided roasted tomato salsa and consider the day made. photo credit: Makena Yee Bananas Foster Waffle Banana slices are caramelized but still keep their freshness, rum-spiked caramel drizzles have a nice sweetness-to-booze balance, and the whip is fortified with mascarpone for added tang and durability. A communal order for the table is the best way for everyone to nab a bite or six. photo credit: Makena Yee The Smash Burger Burgers belong at brunch, and Cafe Aurora’s double-stack is Exhibit A. With a perfectly griddled bun, two layers of seared beef and good ol’ processed american cheese, and a house sauce that lubricates with a light touch, it’s the finest burger on the island. A side of tater tots sweetens the pot. photo credit: Satya Curcio" - Aimee Rizzo

10s across the board! I came to Cafe Aurora with my family at opening time and we had a great experience here. The entire staff welcomed us to their cozy restaurant. All five of us for the most part tried something different: the classic breakfast, avocado toast, avocado and tomato benedict, and the banana foster waffles. The woman who took our orders at the front was very nice and patient with our large order. My grandpa and I got some coffees as well; he had mentioned to one of the young staff members that the coffee was cold and soon enough he brought a new hot cup over to my grandpa, which was very considerate. The food came out quick and was so good! My waffles were to die for! Definitely a dish made for my fellow sweet lovers. My grandpa very pleased with his eggs benedict. I was able to see it on his face that this was a great eggs benedict. The rest of my family all had good things to say about their breakfast as well! I would definitely come back here again as the staff was incredibly helpful, sweet, and the food as amazing!

Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff. I had the “One of Us” special, Eggs in Purgatory. Delicious and perfectly spiced. The rest of our party had the breakfast burrito which was heavenly and the banana foster waffle was amazing!

Woww!!! If youre looking for a sweet breakfast, highly recommend my personal fave here!! The bananas foster waffle was SO. GOOD. No extra syrup needed! Hubby had their special which was the chocolate chip banana bread French toast but it came with a burnt bottom to is which is what can happen when you cook with chocolate chips on the stovetop.. The bacon was pretty dried out and stiff as well. Maybe it was a bad day for the cook? but that bananas foster will still have me giving this a 5 star review!! Along with their customizable coffee bar as well. Their vanilla sugar is so yum! The host taking our order at the front was so personable and nice too

Wonderful find. When a lot of places were closed on a Wednesday morning, Cafe Aurora was welcoming of my group of 8. Sat at a large picnic table surrounded by flowers. Burrito and pork rind benny were amazing!

The Best Smash Burger I've Ever Had—Period I don't normally leave reviews, but I felt that I had to because this left an impression on me. As someone who takes burgers very seriously—especially smash burgers—I’ve made it a mission to try them everywhere I go. I’ve sampled hundreds from all over, from hyped-up big city joints to hidden small-town gems. And I can say without hesitation: Café Aurora’s smash burger is in a league of its own. The flavor, the sear, the texture—it’s all dialed in to absolute perfection. The patty was crispy on the edges, juicy in the middle, and seasoned just right. The bun was soft but structured, and the cheese perfectly complimented the rich savory beef flavor. Every bite was insane. It’s the kind of burger that ruins other burgers. Like, I left wondering how I’m ever going to enjoy another one as much. If you’re anywhere near Café Aurora and love smash burgers, do yourself a favor and go. Immediately.

Relaxed brunch with solid food and great ambiance Aurora is a charming spot with a casual order-and-seat-yourself setup. No espresso drinks, but the salmon bagel and bananas foster were both solid. The atmosphere is warm and inviting—perfect for a laid-back brunch in the San Juans.

My wife and I are just visiting the island for a few days and decided to stop by for breakfast. We had bananas foster waffles and braised pork belly Benedict, which were awesome. We happened to notice a little card on the table mentioning Bingo night with ridiculous prizes in the evening, so obviously we had to come back. It was a blast! Food and drinks were amazing and I ended up winning a "big ass sandwich" during it. We are staying in a condo with a mini fridge, so I was a little concerned how I was going to store it in there for the ferry ride the next day. Luckily they come equipped with a giant sub holder. Food 10/10, drinks 10/10, service 10/10, and atmosphere 11/10.

Real great new cafe. You order at the counter and they give you a number. The inside seating is limited but they have a patio. Everything we got was great but I would say small portions at least for us being so active out on the island. If y'all can add like a half waffle option or some more side options that would be good like extra egg for the classic plate. Only two triangles of toast was also small. The jam was good and I'd like to try blackberry one if you add that in future. We didn't try the cocktails but in future if you add a coffee one like Spanish coffee I would definitely get that. Regular coffee was good and they had oat milk. Service was good and got our food quickly. I think the owners are smart in having a condensed menu and would like to have tried lunch. Absolutely recommend.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and we weren't disappointed! It was a busy bustling place, but they got us seated within about 15-20 minutes. This is an order-at-the-counter restaurant and get your own water, which I appreciate. I ordered the "one of us", which was a chicken and avocado ceasar wrap! Sooo good! My husband ordered "the Jenny". He scarfed it down too! Everything is fresh and homemade! The tater tots were hot and well seasoned too! Everyone was super friendly and the space was casual and comfortable. We would definitely come back and try other items on the menu in the future!

Yelp
Excellent food, customer service and ambiance. I had Eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was the real deal.

Yelp
My wife and I were hungry and short on time. Luckily we stumbled upon Cafe Aurora where we were able to quickly order and sit down. The service very friendly and fast. I had the tomato and avocado Bennie and my wife had the classic breakfast. We both loved our food and the fact that they serve tots instead of your standard house potatoes. Needless to say we were soon on our way with full bellies.

Yelp
Special omelet was fabulous best meal eaten out in a long time on and off island. I loved it. Ingredients preparation... portion and side salad and even the tater tots were prepared perfectly. Service with a big smile. Ambiance of friendly neighborhood. Friends greeting friends and complimenting the chef and waiters. I'll be back. Soon. Cheers.

New cafe in town that just opened with phenomenal food!!! Awesome chef and great people work here. Vegan options and great cocktails. I had the Traditional Breakfast with bacon and their homemade sausage patty. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Love this new spot on Orcas. The venue is wonderful w indoor and outdoor seating and more parking than many places. The food was delicious and the service great. People commented at our table how they liked the order and pay process before sitting down that streamlines time efficiently. Two at our table had the Eggs Benedict w Pork Belly; they're very generous w the pork and the eggs and hollandaise were prepared perfectly. Another had the smash burger and that's what I'm getting next time. Highly recommend and if you like having a Bloody Mary w your meal, the one they serve is quite the specimen, it's loaded and my husband very much enjoyed it.

Yelp
Came here twice on a four day trip because we loved it so much. Love that they serve breakfast all day. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to you at your table. Both times the food came super fast and it is so delicious! Fair prices in comparison to other places on Orcas Island. Kind staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Their front patio is beautiful!

Yelp
The atmosphere was casually elegant. Food was delicious we got the Smash Burger and the Clams. The clams came with fresh brioche that was perfect for sopping up the tasty broth. The pickles on the burger gave a great crunch. You could tell the bun was tasted up on the flattop. Yum. I was able to get in and out in under an hour.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast! Had the Pork Belly Benedict - wow! Everything was fresh. Service quick. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had heard this brunch spot was great! It did not disappoint!! My pastrami on Rye with Tater Tots and a delicious dill pickle was the perfect brunch choice for me! My husband got the traditional breakfast and his easy over eggs were on point! The sausage was met with a great smile from him and the English muffin? Wow! Not sure whether that's made in house but really well done!

Carrie S.

Yelp
Had fantastic Bloody Mary's that was a meal with shrimp, bacon and lots of yummy marinated veggies. The owner was fantastic and a great bartender. We will go back to try out their brunch and lunch. Heard the Smashburgers were great

Yelp
Tastiest burger on island! And I've tried them all! My friend had the rueben and really enjoyed that as well. Chatted with the owner, and she said they may be doing old school supper club in the winter. That'll be fun! Especially in that cozy space.
