"Sister restaurants Cafe Bastille and B44, known for their distinct French and Spanish bends, respectively, are slated to close for good on October 26, SFGATE reports. Manager Sabina Antonova told the news outlet that decreased foot traffic and smaller lunch crowds were factors in the decision to close." - Justine Jones

Nestled in the bustling heart of San Francisco, Cafe Bastille stands out as a delightful French culinary retreat. The restaurant’s charm is immediately apparent, inviting diners into a space that promises both comfort and a touch of elegance. Upon visiting, one is greeted by the flavorful array of dishes, each served in generous portions that satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. The menu, a blend of classic French fare with contemporary twists, ensures that every palate is catered to. Whether it’s the succulent beef bourguignon or the perfectly balanced salad, the food is consistently praised for its great taste. The experience is further enhanced by the helpful and friendly wait staff. Their attentiveness and warmth contribute significantly to the dining experience, making guests feel both valued and well-cared for. It’s no surprise that service here is often described as outstanding. Cafe Bastille is not just a restaurant; it’s a destination for those seeking a meal that will be remembered fondly long after the last bite. It’s a place where the food’s richness is matched only by the richness of the hospitality provided by its staff. For anyone looking for a taste of France in San Francisco, Cafe Bastille is a must-visit.

The restaurant has merged with a Spanish one, which makes menu choices more interesting. I had the confit duck cassoulet and my husband had steak in peppercorn sauce with frites. The steak was cooked as ordered-rare and was very tender. Both meals were value for money and for dessert we had the Creme Catalina (crème brûlée with a citrus twist). Complimentary bread was served which was warm and crusty, accompanied by an olive oil and black olive dipping sauce. We received exceptional service from the lovely waiter; he was very attentive and humorous. Generous serving of wine by the glass.

Had dinner with a friend before the theater this week, and it was delightful! Had a lovely tempranillo and the perfect French onion soup: basically a high-end grilled cheese with beef stock. The rabbit in Dijon cream sauce was absolutely perfect and a match for the restaurants I’ve visited in Paris. 🇫🇷

Had a fabulous lunch at Bastille and understand why it is so popular. Not too gaudy atmosphere yet rustic and cozy enough to get your sense transformed into a small town in France. The garlic bread was phenomenal and the burger was quite flavorful. Nothing to be blown away. Just had a great time. Price ain't too cheap but absolutely worth it to take a trip to a small eatery in a French town.

Super cute place! Everything was super yummy! The escargot came out bubbling still and was so good. The mussels were small but the sauce was great. The Lorca drink was delicious. Service was great and nice

Been coming to this place for many years. This is a little side street that is filled with restaurants where you can dine al fresco. Tucked in the middle of downtown and has a nice vibe. 3 out of the 4 came here for lunch and ordered the Niçoise salad. Our 4th ordered another tuna dish with avocado, garnish and lentils.

Definitely closing for a reason. My husband wanted to go for a final meal… his food took an hour to arrive after we ordered and the chicken was SO dry. The waiter was very sweet but that is not ok. Would not recommend going for a final meal; the staff seems to have given up.

Delicious. Absolutely delicious. I had the French Onion Soup & the rabbit as an entrée and I am so pleased I did; my only regret was eating too much earlier in the day, so I couldn’t treat myself to dessert as well. I love that they’ve got the combined menu with B44, I can’t say I’ve had tapas at too many French restaurants before. Definitely coming back.
