First time trying Serbian food, and this place came highly recommended by my boyfriend’s friend, it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, and our server Nada was super friendly and took the time to explain the dishes and how to eat them, which we really appreciated. We had the veal soup, and it was rich and comforting with incredibly tender veal, highly recommend it. The ćevapčići were flavorful with a nice charcoal-grilled taste, and the burek was crispy, flaky, and delicious. Overall, a great dining experience. There’s also a market next door, which is fun to check out after eating.

Hearty, healthy (ish) and delicious! If you are seeking a no BS filing meal where you can also get wonderful sides of vegetables, this may be your spot. Everything was served promptly and everything looked/smelled/tasted great. The Serbian beers were great, if you like lager/pilsner kinda of beers try them out. Service was friendly and prompt. This is the kind of food that will satisfy you winter or summer. And if you get there before 7pm be sure to check out their grocery store. Lots of interesting things in there.

Great place for an authentic European (Serbian) food experience. We enjoyed the Mixed Sampler Plate with various delicious meats, was a generous portion with fresh bread. And the Cheese Burek-Pie & cabbage salad were delish too! We received wonderful service from Valentina. Highly recommended place 👍

All the food was really good! I especially liked the burek, but I also tried a sandwich and omelette. We also liked our food so much that we ended up having a post breakfast dessert. Be prepared to wait for the burek, but when it comes out, it's crispy and hot on the inside and out. 😋

Fantastic Serbian cuisine! The decor feels like an old Serbian farmhouse. The food is some of the best I've had. Our servers were friendly and attentive. There's even a small market attached if you want European specialties to take home.

Had never tried Serbian food before and found what we got to be very tasty and have generous portions. Staff were friendly and quick to get out orders in, but be prepared for a bit of a wait on cook times which are noted on the menu. The wait though for freshly made dishes is absolutely worth it though.

Ever had Serbian pie? Cafe Beogard's house specialty is Burek - Filo dough pie stuffed with melty cheese & spinach. It's huge and totally worth the 25 min wait. Save room for their vegetable crepes & meat mixed sampler plate! Also, house made bread is AMAZING! Cute cafe area with the dim lighting and lots of spread out seating. Good for a family dinner or solo time on a laptop.

We love Cafe Beograd. It's a must when friends and family are in town, plus I love bringing anyone here who is food-adventurous and interested in trying something new. We often order the beef burek - and it is my favorite dish on the menu! It is the size of a dinner plate and cut into 4 pieces. The dough is delicious and chewy and the very outside is so crispy. Inside it's stuffed with flavored ground beef. It's SO good. We also often get the chevapci and/or the bacon-wrapped chevapci. I personally like to eat these with ajvar, a thick roasted red pepper side sauce. Actually, I like to eat everything here with ajvar. Definitely recommend you try it! On my most recent visit we also had the Shopska salad, which was soooooo good and I highly recommend. I love how they grate the feta cheese over everything. I've also had the serbian salad. And of course, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Between the palacinke (crepes) or the number of amazing cakes they make in-house, you won't be disappointed. :)

I came here with a group of friends and we had a great time! We shared the big meat platter which allowed us to try a little bit of everything. I really enjoyed the bacon wrapped sausages. I will be getting that next time. I also really liked the puff pastry with meat inside. It was perfect. We got a spinach one too, but give me the meats! The only downside was that I wasn't too thrilled with my cocktail. It was ok, but I was hoping for more flavor. The service was pretty good, especially since we were such a large group! I would have never checked out this place, but I will be sure to come back for that meat pastry pie!

I admittedly have never had much Serbian food, but we are recommended to come to Café Beograd. Food is very meat centric but they're also very delicious pies and crêpes to satisfy which works for those nights that you're really looking for that comfort food that you're craving. The restaurant felt cozy with the lighting. The mixed sampler plate consisting of chevapchichi, spicy pork sausages, a pork chop, and pljeskavica was delicious. The bread was also delicious. However, service was so-so.

I'd been hankering to try this place for many months, and finally found the time to drive over and give it a try. I'm not sure what I think about the cevapi. For my taste, the cevapi themselves are a little too rubbery, and the bread a little too fluffy, but the ajvar was great, and the kajmak seemed to be the real deal if you like that kind of thing. Maybe it's just not my thing, as this place obviously has a devoted following and is one of the few places doing what they do. My disappointment with the cevapi aside, though, the cheese burek was just outstanding -- salty, cheesy, crunchy, and satisfying. I'm not sure how the crust stayed so crisp, flaky, and excellent even after being wrapped in a bag and driven in my car for over thirty minutes before we broke it out, but it did, through some kind of magic. If you are one of the regulars you probably don't need my review telling what you to do. But if like me you're just here exploring, maybe skip the cevapi and focus on the Magic Burek.

We did takeout recently and ordered a variety of things which were all quite good. Spinach and cheese burek was the highlight of the meal for sure. Huge order, half served as leftovers tons of great cheese with delicious flavor to brighten up the burek. Meat sampler was good, nice way to try everything but without a doubt the cevapcici was the star of the show and incredibly delicious. Schnitzel was just ok. It was well cooked and prepared but felt overly reliant on just lemon to give it some flavor. Including some ajvar would've been better. Speaking of, and this was the main negative, we got ajvar and urnebes as sides. $4 a piece. Ok fine. But to then get just like a tiny little container of so little of each dip was crazy. Not remotely worth it. The kind of thing you'd think is an extra 50 cents or a dollar.

Super cool and neat spot. Cafe Beograd features Balkan cuisine and its very delicious. I've tried other Balkan restaurants before and this is definitely one of my top favorites. My table got two Burek's to share. Burek is a savory pastry/pie baked in phyllo. It's crispy on the outside and filled with a filling of your choice. My favorite one was their meat filled Borek. We also got a sampler meat platter. Our meal came with complimentary house made bread. The waitress was so lovely and nice. I will note this cuisine is kind of heavy, but if you're looking to try something new I highly recommend this place.

I came here on a Friday evening with my cousin to grab a bite and a drink after a long flight. We were able to get a table pretty quickly. The food was good and the service was incredible. I would definitely tell people to come here! First I have to rave about the service here. The entire staff was super friendly and we had several different people stop by to check on us. It didn't matter that we added on extra things with different waiters, everything came out quickly, and correctly. When we asked for recommendations people were friendly and gave us good advice. The menu, people, and experience were very authentic. For drinks we got a hot chocolate, a Serbian brandy, and a Serbian beer. The hot chocolate was huge and topped up with an incredible mound of whipped cream. The brandy came recommended by our waiter and was pretty good. The Serbian beer (Lav) was very smooth. 10/10 would recommend. For food we got the sampler plate and the spinach and cheese burek. The sampler plate was pretty good variety and I liked it a lot. The burek was huge and we ended up eating most of it as leftovers the next day. Maybe it was because I was hungrier but it paired super well with my morning coffee.

Cafe Beograd is in the Irving Park area of Chicago. It's northwest Chicago. Also, Horne Park and California Park are just east. I like the neighborhood. The building itself is beautiful. It's a nice historic red brick building that sits on a street corner. I also loved the mural of Nikola Tesla, on the side of the building. The interior of the restaurant has a nice feel to it. It's clean and has a nice bar along with plenty of seating. It's also like stepping into a portal, going over to the former Yugoslavia. After entering the restaurant it didn't take me long to be seated at a table. I was seated at a corner high top table near the bar. It gave me a nice view of the whole restaurant. I started off with a Jelen beer from Serbia. Jelen pivo is a pale lager produced by the Apatin Brewery from Serbia. It has a nice smooth taste. For my entree I ordered the Mixed Sampler Plate. It comes with three cevapcici, two spicy pork sausages, one pork chop and pljeskavica. If you've never had Serbian grilled meat, this would be a great entree to order. I also ordered a Serbian salad as well. Entree was beautiful. Serbians grill meats very well. The salad was delicious as well. It's a lot of food and will absolutely fill you up. Definitely bring a healthy appetite! I passed on dessert or coffee. My only feedback for this place would be to pay attention to patrons when they've finished their entree and it's time for dessert or the bill. My waitress passed by me several times when I was finished, never bothering to ask me if I wanted dessert or the bill. Overall, a good experience here. I would return here again when I decide to visit the Windy City again. I strongly recommend this place if you've never had food from the former Yugoslavia. You're in for a treat!

I try de goulash is was great, delicious, I can't say the same about the burek. It's obviously frozen. And tasty. The service and ambiance is nice and relax.

Very beautiful place with a very good vibe. The staff here is very outgoing and has a great work ethic. A little shorthanded on the day that I came by, but made it happen regardless. Food that I ordered was a Panini. I also had one of their coffee cocktails. Both of which were great and made with class. Very attentive and worth every penny. I wouldn't expect an amazing flavor profile, but at the very least everything tasted very fresh.

Where should i begin... It's been 15 years ago when i stepped first time in Cafe Beograd and i am still coming back. Everything and i mean everything on the menu i did try and it's delicious. From cevapi, mix meat platter, beo burger, gourmet burger , sausage , stuffed burger, chicken to karadjordjeva, panini, pizza, crapes, cakes... Staff is always friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They will make your stay pleasant as possible. With few renovations that were done in the past, place is super cozy and has that European vibe all the way - great patio in the summer time. Can't believe i forgot to write this review earlier( thought i did ) but i am highly recommending this place to anyone that wants to try Serbian food. ZIVELI!!!

Always like coming to this place. Very good service and amazing food. On my most recent visit, my family and I shared the potato burek. I tried the Karadjordje's schnitzel for my entree, which was absolutely fantastic. I also grabbed two bottles of wine from the little market attached to the restaurant before I left. Another great experience at Cafe Beograd.

Café Beograd was an outstanding choice for a Chicago dinner. My friend, who is Serbian, suggested a Serbian restaurant, which was new to me. My brother-in-law is also a Serb and a chef, but he rarely makes Serbian food. What a treat! It was a wonderful experience, with lovely service and delicious food. We shared the two dishes pictured, and it was still too much to finish. The meat Chevapchici was lean and tasty. The burek was so savory with feta providing a bright flavor. I texted my brother-in-law and he will be checking out café Beograd the next time he's in Chicago. It was worth the $25 Uber ride from the city. You have a convert in me, and I will be back! Nice spot to grab a bite to eat. The mix meat platter is really good and fun to get when having a beer with friends. The service is great and there is a nice little market attached as well if you want to pick up some Serbian meats, and they have wines too.

We love Cafe Beograd! My sister in law is Macedonian so we originally learned about burek and cevapi and all the other goodies but Cafe Beograd is our local go-to for beef burek. We absolutely love it and the employees are always so nice in there! The best!!! We continue to get takeout beef burek and will never stop. PS - burek takes about 25 minutes (this is noted on their menu and also they tell you when you call to place the order). So worth the wait!!!!!

Cute, friendly and welcoming place to try Serbian cuisine, desserts and espresso/coffee. They have a bar, front patio and you can shop Serbian specialties grocery items. Ordered vegetarian Panini, cucumber salad, and chicken wings. Enjoyed it all.

Delish Serbian cuisine with an attentive and welcoming staff. Restaurant is charming and has a nice covered, outdoor patio area. I stopped by for breakfast al fresco and thoroughly enjoyed a domestic coffee (Turkish style coffee), polenta with egg, bacon and feta. And because I'm that lady, I need a bite of sweet with my savory so I ordered a small crepe with apricot and a second coffee. Did I mention that the coffee is served with a Turkish delight? (yessir!) A fellow patron shared that their Burek is the BEST. I'm sure I'll be back very soon to try it!

Had dinner here last night and loved it! They do take reservations for 2 and we were seated immediately. It was a lovely night and we sat outside. It felt like Europe! We were surrounded by Serbian people but did not feel awkward or neglected at all. Service was stellar- previous reviews said that service was slow or non- Serbs were neglected but this was not the case. We ordered a small order of the bacon wrapped sausages, the cheese and spinach burek, and the rolled chicken schnitzel dinner. It was all good. So much food! Hubby got a Serbian beer and I had a glass of the house wine. Couldn't pass on dessert so we shared a slice of the Dobos torte which was delicious despite lacking the usual hard sugar top. Took home about half our food. Afterwards we checked out the interesting attached market and resisted the other yummy looking cakes on display. Would love to come back with a group to try other things on the extensive menu.

Amazing Serbian food!! Ordered the small Cevapi, and Sopska salad and they both were delicious. Save room for the homemade desserts and coffee they do not disappoint!!! Service here is just like Europe the staff doesnt bother you to rush with your meal or pay your tab. So if you need something just flag them down and they will be right over. Not like American restaurants were the server comes every 5 minutes to the table. So be aware of that.

Check it out at lunch too for on the go food that tastes like your Grandmother cooked it! They have food in warming trays with a different selection everyday, sold by the pound

I've only had takeout from here but the food is delicious! Burek is the perfect comfort food, it's a flakey pie filled with meat, cheese, potatoes. The cevapi was also so flavorful and juicy. Coming from St. Louis where there is a large Bosnian population and amazing Bosnian food I was happy to find Cafe Beograd. Definitely give it a try if you've never had Balkan food.

I enjoyed my meal here! I liked the schnitzel and drink I ordered. The waitress was also super kind and helpful. I thought my dessert drink and cake were a little too rich and creamy for me. I definitely recommend sharing desserts. Otherwise, this is a really cool restaurant to try out!

I have been here many times and am impressed with the food and the service each time I visit. I recently stopped in with my husband and decided to order the Diabolo pizza and the Bolognese pasta. My goodness, it was outstanding. I am so impressed and it's better than a lot of the Italian and pizza places in the neighborhood! I will definitely be back for more!

Sat on the patio at Beograd and had tasty food! The mixed platter has sausages, pork, and burger patty. It's seasoned deliciously and taste so good when wrapped in bread. The shopska salad is very refreshing with delish tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and cheese. Pair it all with an ice cold jelen!

Visiting from New Mexico w my Bosnian husband and amazing traditional Baltic food, had Chivapi and cucumber salad DELICIOUS server was very friendly and welcoming.

I celebrated my birthday with two friends at Café Beograd. We started with Burek, filo pastry filled with cheese and spinach which was very good and filling, good for 3-4 persons. We placed our order which included a slaw salad (big portion) then a Beograd sampler special, eight chevapchichi, traditional homemade sausages (similar to Gyros meat), four gourmet sausages, two pljeskavica (serbian hamburgers), two pork chops, & bacon strips on top, perfect for three-four people. Two orders of fries one with lots of Feta and their special bread that they make to order as well as the Burek which takes 15-20 minutes. My likes and dislikes on the Beograd special are the hamburgers were nothing special that appeared to be average hamburger patties, that were plain, the pork chops were so-so a little too tough for me. What I liked the best was the gourmet sausages and the chevepchichi, the bacon was a little undercooked for me. $5.00 for a side order of fries is too much, they're just regular fries you'd get anywhere. The Jelen beer is a must-try, it's a pale lager and the bottle is bigger than American beer, it's definitely worth $6.00.

I was travelling to meet my Serbian friends in Chicago and they took me to this place. Food was really good, coffee as well. Serbian cuisine is meat-heavy and everything you order will taste good. Very good place if you want to try something different.

It was great experience of dining with Ana who served us with smily face and perfect recommendation. Best cevabi and burek in town by far! Definitely worth to go again. Tonight we are going back. Sarma serves until 5 pm but rest all available. Love it! No picture cos all food were gone

Great food. Very good service. I'm partial to Slavic cooking so I know of what I speak. Relaxing ala fresco seating if a bit noisy from the traffic off Irving Park Rd. One caveat; Our order items were ala carte so it became a fairly pricey meal. No booze two entrees and salads, soda/coffee....$80 with tip. And as the food was good but nothing special as far as it's quality, I give them 3.5 *s

Beograd cafe made my tongue taste like it's in heavan ajajaj aj me kuku the Cevapi wrapped in bacon blew me away my food critic cousin states, "ask Luka but their juicy" the service was great he walked in and treated us to drinks and he was so nice I wanted to blow up and s**T my pants oh my gods Man I wish I could live in this restaurant

I have been here more times than i can count and every time i had an exceptional experience! The food is as phenomenal as their service! Anddd they're open late !

Food was absolutely delicious! If you are new to Serbian food, getting a combo plate is your best bet. The bread is incredibly fresh, the Cevapi and other sausages are juicy and freshly cooked and hot. Bring a breath mint for the onions but if you like simple but delicious .... The schnitzel was also incredible!!!!

Entering into a Serbian restaurant, you might think there would be no vegan options...and you'd be wrong! They have very clearly labeled options on the menu that are vegetarian/vegan. My friends and I delighted in the cabbage borek and it was incredibly flaky, I couldn't believe it was vegan! They also have great pickled items that are also vegan friendly as well as fantastic bread. We had great service that was incredibly attentive and helped us pick the best items off of the menu. Would definitely go again next time I'm in Irving Park!

The Serb grub here is solid. Outdoor patio, be prepared to wait awhile for service. Inside seating is plentiful with an extra dining room in the back and service was quick. We had a party of 10. We had two mixed platters, 4 salads, a plate of cevapi, bread and spreads. A few folks had alcohol, mostly pop and water. The tab was modest at right around 200.00. Can't be beat for as much food as you get. Bakery/deli attached next door.

Devojke su sjajne, rade punom parom. Sve pohvale za Andjelu i Tanju najpre jer su zaista uvek nasmejane i ništa nije problem, pa čad i kad imamo drugačije zahteve. Ambijent je super i sam dolazak ovde čini se kao da si u Srbiji, eto samo taj ćošak i ljudi pruže osećaj kao kod kuće. I've gone here a couple times now. I've had their beef burek (a crispy flakey dough filled with ground beef), shopska salad (super crunchy and fresh salad) chevapchici (minced meat sausages). Which are some of my favorites! I love to eat the beef Burke with kaymak (whipped creamy butter) I've also eaten their meat platters are so good and well seasoned. Their food is filling and the size portions are large. Waiters have always been attentive.

Beograd is no frills, just good food, and a ton of it. Our table of four split the Beograd Special and a spinach and cheese Burek, and we all left full, even with some leftovers to spare. What's better is that even with a few rounds of drinks, our bill was very reasonable at the end. The space is modest and homey feeling, completely unpretentious, which was kind of a refreshing change of pace from other restaurants, and also made it feel more authentic. The food was also very, very solid. The Special is essentially an all-you-can-meat platter (heh), with a couple of types of sausages, pork chops, and hamburger patties, topped with a pile of fatty, thick cut bacon that drizzled juices down over the rest of the meats. Incredible. Our Burek was also very tasty, and definitely didn't skimp on the cheese. The service was also very fast and friendly. Beograd's menu is giant, and there are a lot of other items that looked fascinating, so I'll definitely be back. This place is great if you're ready to eat.

My Serbian friend recommended this place and told us to try the Burek, Cevapi, Ajvar, and Sarma. The waitress was attentive and helped us order everything we wanted, and also made some other recommendations! It was all amazing - took a bit for the food to come out, but they state this on the menu, and we didn't mind waiting since it was all made to order! The Serbian salad was amazing and all of the bread was extremely fresh. The sarma was one of the best stuffed cabbages I've ever had - the meat inside was smoked and so flavorful. Highly recommend this place! If you've never had Serbian food, they are willing to help you and you can't go wrong with Burek and the cevapi (meat).

Great cozy place for legit Serbian food (as far as I can tell!). Came here with a Serbian friend who heavily recommended this place and was not disappointed, I wish I knew how heavy Serbian food is on grilled meats and carbs because if I did I totally would've come sooner! He ordered me the Karageorge's schnitzel, which is a rolled chicken cutlet filled with a cheese mixture, breaded and deep fried. It came out hot and fresh, with cheese oozing out as I made my first cut; it was as satisfying and indulgent as it sounds. However, I think the sausage platters my friends got were even better; they were so simple, just a couple sausages and also some heartier spicy sausages, with sides of chopped onions, sour cream, and eaten with bread. There isn't a ton of meat but the sausages are packed with flavor. To finish, my friend got a crepe filled with "Eurocrem"- it's like semi-Nutella, but instead half is cocoa flavor (like the Nutella we're used to) and the other half is a creamy white hazelnut mixture, which together taste like a super sweet, richer and less chocolaty Nutella. The crepe was perfectly thin and delicate, and surprisingly long. Great end to a super satisfying lunch! I would totally come back to try some of their other meat offerings (the combination meat platter with sausages and pork chop sounds amazing), as well as their other traditional entrees.

Wow this cafe is amazing. They have a full bar, an attached store, and a delicious menu! They also have yummy coffee drinks and an outdoor patio. All your Serbian favorites are offered. They have a good sopska. Burek is a good size and a good price. My favorite is the pizza. It's European style - first the toppings, then the sauce, then the cheese. Seriously so good, one of my favorite pizzas. My only complaint is the service. Most servers are pleasant but some are not very welcoming. Every time I come here I always experience such a long wait...being seated doesn't take long but the service is so incredibly slow. It's consistently slow.
