London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Café Britaly—yes, that’s Britain and Italy’s couple name—is a new Peckham spot that’s all about mixing the English with the Italian. We’re talking an Italian twist on a full English breakfast, fish finger sandwiches, and daily specials like chicken milanese.  We recently checked out Café Britaly. Read our first thoughts here. Café Britaly Review - Peckham - London - The Infatuation

"Café Britaly is a thoroughly polished restaurant and wine bar in Peckham, that pays homage to London's British-Italian caffs. And the cream in the carbonara is just the tip of the (pickled onion) bruschetta. It's very pretty inside—all dusty pinks and geometric artwork—and the menu can feel like kids' foods for adults. Think fish finger sandwiches, breaded chicken, even a 'green' lasagne with some hidden vegetables. But it’s the sort of tasty, comforting food we all crave sometimes, even if we don't like to admit it. photo credit: Steven Joyce photo credit: Steven Joyce photo credit: Steven Joyce A pork chop is served with fried pizza dough, pastas are garnished with fried eggs, and Sundays aren't sacred either—porchetta gets a yorkshire pudding sidekick. The mashups are lots of fun, but the dishes aren’t vastly improved by the twists. Still it's hard to begrudge the nudge-nudge wink-wink cheekiness of it all. Especially when you see children gleefully cutting into (must-order) rice pudding arancini while their parents smile and sip wine. Or friends catching up over an ‘nduja scotch egg which makes them feel liberated enough to admit that they actually find most 'al dente' pasta too hard. Food Rundown photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Nduja Scotch Egg Gooey in the centre, as it should be. Crispy on the outside, as it should be. Sitting on a slightly goopy piccalilli mixture, as it really shouldn’t be. In the words of Meat Loaf, “two out of three ain’t bad”. photo credit: Steven Joyce Britalian Carbonara Conversations about tradition and the sanctity of The Four Pastas Of Rome aside, this tastes really nice. We just don’t like the fried egg because it doesn’t incorporate and mix with the sauce like a simple egg yolk would. Also, the cream here didn’t add any more richness than a classic carbonara has, so it feels unnecessary. photo credit: Steven Joyce Pork Chop Marinated In Cider The fried pizza dough that this comes with is a lovely puffed-up little carb scoop for the lentils—but it’s also very random. This dish needed to take one thing off before it walked out the door." - Sinéad Cranna

Had such a lovely experience at Britaly. I was visiting my daughter for a few days who lives in Peckham. We booked last minute on a Saturday eve. The host was charming, the atmosphere ambient and friendly, nice music. The food was exceptional, every plate delicious, inventive, seasonal and cooked to perfection. It was served in a timely manner, we didn’t feel hurried, nor did we have to wait and really enjoyed sharing the small plates - we had 7 in total including desserts and a cocktail each. Reasonably priced and it felt a bit different to the usual dining experience with the sharing platters and unusual menu. 100% recommend and would make a special visit even if I happened not to be in the area 👌

First time in Peckham Rye and visiting Café Britaly didn’t disappoint! Staff were friendly, indoor decor is superb, and the food was amazing! I tried their Burrata and Pizzetta crunch to start, Britalian carbonara for mains, and Zuppa inglese for dessert. I enjoyed my entire stay there and would definitely recommend!

Visited with my family while on holiday in the UK. The food was top notch and the atmosphere relaxed. Others have mentioned the delicious arancini dessert but I would also highlight a lovely earthy vegan pasta (pici, from scratch by the kitchen) and an amazing spinach side dish. Had mains each and shared some starters, sides and dessert. Staff were nice, wine was good and value at the price. Highly recommended!

Great spot and vibe inside. You can tell that a lot of love and care has been put into the setting and overall ambience. Great drinks. Good food, starters were great but a little room for improvement on the mains, could be more flavours past what you get on the first bite.

Really great food, friendly attentive staff. The fish finger sandwich was beautifully prepared, fall apart and melt in your mouth delicious. The zuppa inglese creamy and aromatic without being overly boozy. All day breakfast also tremendous with herby fennel sausage and generally excellent quality produce. Highly recommended.

We had a stunning dinner at Café Britaly on opening weekend. Despite being brand new, it felt like an established neighbourhood restaurant. Everything was fantastic: the service, the decor, the vibe, the drinks and the food. Special highlights include the deep fried pizza and the rice pudding arancini! We can't wait to come back and try breakfast. And what's more, it's dog friendly :) A welcome addition to Peckham Rye - believe the hype.

We just had a fantastic Father’s Day meal at Cafe Britaly. I couldn’t fault a single element of any of the dishes.
