Café Brunet

"This café dating back to 1875 is a real haven. It has managed to keep intact its soul of an authentic and convivial bistro (terrace, boules). As time meanders by, enjoy a good hearty meal or tasty little dishes." - Michelin Inspector

I was really lucky to find this restaurant. The food was far better than anything I had in Annecy’s downtown area. It made me so happy. Everything from the appetizer to the dessert was excellent. The fish, in particular, was absolutely delicious. ☺️

Truly an amazing evening of incredible food and even better service. From the moment we arrived we were greeted warmly and Mathieu took the time the explain the menu to us. I am sorry I did not get the name of our server but he gave us perfect wine recommendations for our meal. A flavor explosion for all three courses. Well worth the effort to come to this restaurant in picturesque Annecy Vielle. Merci beaucoup Mathieu!

Excellent all around. Wonderful, soulful cooking, not too rich, prioritizing fresh ingredients. extremely nourishing. beautiful wine selection at very reasonable prices. And lovely, genuine hospitality from the staff. Can’t wait to return.

TASTES AND FEELINGS OF THE OLD VILLAGE In the heart of the peaceful little square of Annecy-le-vieux, this XIV century building has become the warm house of a cosy bistrot, a welcoming restaurant where the young chef and his group deftly elevate the "cuisine de canaille" (dishes of common people) to a smart and tasteful meal offer. The courses - serving meat, fish and vegetables - are in line with the tradition, even tough the creative touch of the chef is critical. Flavours, textures and temperatures are enhanced and well combined. The service is casual and friendly; waiting time is appropriate. The quality/price ratio is excellent, with a three-course menu served at 33€. Highly recommended if staying or passing by the city of Annecy. Comments on the dishes. Among the starters, the springy asparagi flavours is paired with a gentle Holland sauce, while the crusty pate kicks in the rural feeling. As main courses, the masterly roasted "Onglet a l'echalote" is a proof of the chef's technical skills, while the anduillet with the hot mustard is the marvelland of spiciness. In the desserts, the chocolate pot is a gluttony temptation, while the "Pain Perdu... retrouvé" is the house signature which brings along childish memories of countryside snacks, coupling the cosy smell of the warm bread with the colder ice cream. All the courses pictured and descripted above have been personally tried, but the others have set high expectations as well and are waiting to be chosen the next time.

It's been a while since I've eaten here but the standard is just as high as it's always been. Interesting menu, lovely food, attentive staff, good value. If you're in Annecy, definitely consider coming here for a meal.

We had a lunch in this restaurant. The food was tasty, but prices are abused for the quantity you receive.

Terrible rude service with average food served by pretentious waiters at okay prices but not for the quality of food. Can't blame the servers as the manager (guy with white hair/shirt operating the cash machine is really rude) He even pushed a baby carriage roughly (with the baby in it) out of the way to point out it was blocking the way. He seemed to be nice to the people he knew. An absolute stain on beautiful France!

Lovely cappuccino and avocado toasts! Friendly service too. Would be nice to offer some umbrellas for shade outside as seating is limited and in the sun in the morning.

Yelp
My husband and I rented out a chateau for a few people in Montmin for our wedding, so we thought we'd go into Annecy to stroll around. While doing so, we stumbled upon Cafe Brunet where we felt a bit adventurous and split half of a pig's head and it was absolutely amazing. As someone who lives in the US, I am unable to eat pork in my country because it makes me very ill, so I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity in a country with much higher food standards. We also got a small cheese sampling which was absolutely phenomenal. As you would imagine, half of a pig's head is way more than two people can eat for lunch, so they packaged it up for us very carefully in a vacuum-sealed bag. I do want to point out that the menu is all in French and there weren't too many people on staff who spoke English (understandably, because they shouldn't have to). But even with the language barrier, the staff was so nice and accommodating.

Yelp
I saw this recommended by Le Fooding in their annual review of the best restaurants in France. My brother and I entered with the highest expectations and left disappointed and especially bothered by the service. We arrived right after dinner hours started at 7pm, we walked in unsure whether they were welcoming people in yet. I walked up to a waiter to ask and she took us to our table after making clear that we needed to be out by 9 since we did not have a reservation. The menus are displayed around the restaurant and divided into three sections for appetizer, main course and dessert/cheese. The waiter returned quickly asking us for our drink orders, which we weren't ready for because we had yet to look over the wine menu so we decided on the spot to try a local white ale. It was a great beer and with the waiter's advice we ordered a bottle of local white wine to follow the beer. I ordered cucumber soup to start, followed by féra (a local fish) à la plancha with ratatouille. The soup was quickly out within 5 minutes, something that always makes me suspicious. It was an unremarkable take on the soup with the addition of a bunch of herbs I had never heard of but they certainly helped. Our main course also came out within 5-10 minutes, which made me feel that they were doing their best to get us out of the way before the masses arrived around 9. The féra was cooked superbly and tasted delicious but the ratatouille came out cold and limp. At this point there were only a few other customers seated so I was surprised that something might come out cold. We were done with our food by 7:50 and this is much too quick even in the United States I would be astounded by a fine meal served that quickly. We decided to milk the hour we had left by ordering espressos so we could people watch. As it turns out, it seemed like they completely forgot about us and we sat there until 9:15 wondering whether they still knew we were even there. I finally grabbed our waiter's attention and she brought the check, telling us to go to the counter inside to pay. We observed many other people (mostly French) with bewildered expressions at slow and incompetent service (not bringing menus to tables that could not view them easily; bringing dishes to the wrong table; not pouring wine). As we paid, my brother asked about the service and told the man at the counter that we had waited an hour to get our check and he could only produce the limp reply that there were a lot of customers in the restaurant. A frustrating experience and I wouldn't recommend this place.
