Baltimore’s 38 Essential Restaurants

"It makes sense that husband-and-wife duo Paul and Samantha Mincarelli fell for Abruzzo, Italy, with its sparkling Adriatic coastline and lush Apennine mountain view. Their love letter to the region is Cafe Campli — a sun-filled restaurant on the ground floor of Lauraville’s mixed-used SoHa Union. Just east of Rome, Abruzzo is known for ingredients like white anchovy, oxtail ragu, and spaghetti alla chitarra. Those signature techniques and flavors are all on display, as well as a thoughtful bar program of minerally white wines from Pecorino, herbaceous cocktails featuring Italian amari, and refreshing N/A spritzes. Start with homemade rosemary focaccia, continue with a seasonal pasta (like sage pappardelle with sausage and butternut squash), order a Sunday Gravy for the table, and finish off with a warm bomboloni, a fluffy fried Italian doughnut oozing hazelnut-chocolate cream." - Jess Mayhugh, Eater Staff

"This Italian spot just outside of downtown draws inspiration and recipes from the Abruzzo region of Italy. One great thing about Cafe Campli is that they are open for lunch, which was surprisingly difficult to find while in Baltimore!" - Coolstuff Team

The Missus (bless 'er) and I had the opportunity to visit Cafe Campli recently- and we can't wait to return. As we entered and sat down, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had returned to Italy and was in a small, but well-crafted local ristorante. At no point during our visit was I disabused of this feeling. Our server was personable and professional- who could ask for more? The room was spotlessly clean- as was the bathroom. The food? Ah yes, the food: We opened with the antipasto platter, which came with a selection of salume, proscuitto, honey, and cheeses. The crostini was lightly charred, which added a complimentary note to the flavors on the board. My only quibble would be that the cheeses weren't tempered, but that is easily overlooked. The Missus (bless 'er) went for the 'Porchetta Camplese,' a slow roasted boneless pork shoulder drizzzled with an unusual but tasty parsley chimichuri. She said it was delicious and after a bite, I had to agree. I myself went for the 'Agnello Arrosto,' another boneless shoulder cut. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and had that slight char we had met before on the crostini. Again, it was full of flavor and very tender. It did not get dusty sitting on my plate... Together we shared an 'Insalata Mista' to have some extra greens on the table. The salad was lightly dressed (thank you) and the vinegrette was above average. I could not resist the 'Affogato' for dessert: White chocolate gelato topped with a double shot of espresso. I had a 'Stappi Sprita,' a non-alcoholic beverage (I was driving), but ordered a bottle of excellent 2022 Montepulciano D'Abruzzo from Colle Corviano for the Missus (bless 'er) to enjoy with dinner. Every element of the experience was well above our expectations. Sicuramente ci torneremo!

I was visiting a friend who lives in walking distance from this little gem. Situated on a quiet street in the Waltherson/Hamilton area this unassuming restaurant from the outside really packs a punch. When you walk in you're greeted with a small bar and a wall of daily specials. Make sure to check them out before taking a seat. The server was very knowledgeable and gave great tips. The menu was full of authentic paninis and dishes. I started with the homemade tagliatelle with lamb ragu on recommendation from the waiter. It did not disappoint. I was served a nice size portion with a generous amount of sauce. It was divine. For dessert, I had the affogato which, plot twist was made with salted caramel gelato. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood and a definite must try if you're in the area.

Great experience today! Phenomenal food. The chef is incredibly talented. We ordered and shared 5 different dishes and every single one was delicious. The staff is lovely, too!

Cafe Campli is a hidden gem of an Italian Restaurant located in the heart of Hamilton. If you weren't looking for it, you'd miss it, and what a shame that would be. We dined there for our anniversary dinner. The food was great, and the service was excellent! The sea bass was amazing!

Very rarely can you say you have a perfect dining experience. I can say that every time I go to Cafe Campli, it is a perfect dining experience. From food to service, this place is the best in Baltimore. I am not easy to please. I’ve been wanting to try Cafe Campli since it opened because my family is from Abruzzo. We have spent time in Italy so our expectations are very high. Cafe Campli blows it out of the water! This restaurant is the real deal with not only the best food in Baltimore, but the best Italian food I have had in the U.S. Excluding my own kitchen of course. ;) Go eat here, you will love anything you order! Please support this local gem, my family would love to see them thrive in the community for many years to come. Cafe Campli? You can take all my money and I won’t even feel guilty for all the lbs I have gained from you. <3

Google
Added Cafe Campli to the list of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore after last nights dinner. We had no reservations for dinner so we sat at the bar. I ordered a sangria and it was a perfect summer drink. Appetizer - For starters we had the burrata special, which came with crostini and a tomato sauce. The burrata was so fresh and paired wonderfully with the tomato sauce. The crostini was toasted and drizzled in olive oil that you could really taste. Loved it. Entree - For mains we just ordered pasta. I had the Alla Lanterna, a lemon butter spaghetti alla chitarra with roasted garlic, cauliflower & garbanzo puree, anchovy breadcrumbs. Lemon pasta = summer in my opinion, and it was perfectly refreshing. The lemon flavor was just right- not too subtle and not too overbearing. There was a little too much crunchy bits for me tho, I wish I had less to really appreciate the pasta. My friend had the Sunday Gravy, which was a rigatoni with oxtail and sausage ragu. I tried a bit- The pasta and sauce was very fresh. I didn’t try the meat. Dessert - For dessert we had a slice of cake. I believe it rotates what flavor- we had a pistachio ricotta cake and it was perfection. The layers were beautiful! The pistachio flavor was subtle and the cake melted in your mouth. So good. Service - Service was great at the bar- not sure about table service but the place is really cozy and seemed like plenty of staff to cover! Seating - the restaurant is smaller with a cozy vibe, few seats for bar seating so make a reservation. Parking - We parked on the street. No payment required when we there around 6pm on Saturday.

Stopped in for happy hour one Friday afternoon and had a really great experience. This is a very small cozy place with a to of atmosphere. The food here is incredible! Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. The have a great selection of Italian cocktails and wine. I would definitely recommend coming here and can't wait to come back and have dinner with friends.

Can’t say enough great things about this restaurant! From pre-dinner drink to desserts, it’s all wonderful. A terrific addition to our neighborhood! I think our favorites are the ravioli (or any other filled pasta dishes). Worth checking out the happy hour specials as well!

Yelp
My friends and I came in for dinner on a Friday. The space is a bit small but warm and cozy. I enjoyed the environment and the food was okay. The prices are pretty high for what you get IMO. I found the prices comparable to Marta, which blew my socks off when I had dinner there last month. Here's what we tried: - Started with a spritz, it was just as you'd expect. - ROSEMARY FOCACCIA DELLA CASA ($7) - we got the olive oil and tomato jam. I wasn't really impressed with the jam. The bread was good (could have been served a little warmer), olive oil was great. - GNUDI SPINACI ($12) - This was probably the star of the show for me. The dumplings were so light and airy. I could have had two orders of them to myself. - I believe the special was burrata with marinara, which we also ordered. This was a big let down for me. The bread is was served with seemed stale and soaked in olive oil to try and bring it back to life. I never leave a breadcrumb behind but I didn't take more than one bite. The marinara was also really cold, which didn't seem to throw off anyone else, but I didn't care for that. I guess I just prefer burrata with the usual suspects like tomato and olive oil. - TAGLIATELLE CINGHIALE E PORCINI ($26) - This dish was really sad. The sauce didn't stick to the noodles and ended up just looking like some soup at the bottom of the bowl. I would echo what another review mentioned about the meat, it was really limited. - PAPPARDELLE SALSICCIA E ZUCCA ($26) - The sage pappardelle was good. I only tried a bite bite but there seemed to be a similar situation here with light meat and the noodle not really taking to it. - ALLA LANTERNA ($21) - LOVED this one. Great flavor and texture - RISOTTO PORCINI ($22) - Very rich and very delightful. This dish had quite a presentation as well. I loved the dallops of ricotta, making it extra creamy and the pecans really took it up a notch. - We ordered chocolate and pistacio gelato to share alone with a bombolone and some decaf capps. I loved the pistacio, didn't try the bombolone but it was eaten up by others. Capp was fantastic! Service was okay. I don't think our server liked us very much because we took a while to decide what we wanted. We also may have overstayed our welcome because she took away the cappacino before it was gone. Which, is all good. I can take a hint.

Yelp
We came here for a date night on a Tuesday evening. I love that this is a little neighborhood restaurant, and it's very cute. There was a nice crowd around 6:30pm. We ordered a couple of pasta dishes (Sunday gravy, Mugnaia). They both had a good flavor, the pasta was a little too al dente for my liking. They felt undercooked, but I'm also very partial to what is considered "overcooked" by the elite pasta people! The rosemary focaccia was bomb! And they have a nice selection of non alcoholic bevs. The bartender put a nice spin on a non alcoholic drink for me, and it was surprisingly delicious!!! The bomboloni was not the small donuts that I've seen on other menus. It was a whole donut stuffed with a hazelnut spread. It was pretty tasty! There were no options to add protein to any pasta dishes, which was no problem, just be aware. I also felt the dishes with meat in them, the meat was very slight, couldn't even tell it was in there. I would definitely come back again for the string beans!!! And id like to try the flat bread on my next visit.

Yelp
Excellent small neighborhood restaurant with good, friendly service and delicious food. Limited seasonal menu but everything was great. We really enjoyed the flavors and freshness of the food. Very good service and very clean. Absolutely recommend especially if it's nearby. We were visiting and came in from the Inner Harbor so saw a lot of sad, derelict neighborhoods on the way but this place was quality and worth the Uber. Parking is not easy so be warned. Otherwise get in there and enjoy!

Yelp
Had a great time dining here on a Friday night with friends! Cafe Campli has limited seating but is beautifully decorated and cozy. It is situated in a cute neighborhood and is clearly a local favorite for those living in the area. Definitely recommend making a reservation, especially if you are dining with more than 2 people. Also worth noting that there isn't any reserved restaurant parking so you have to find a spot on the street. We ordered everything family style so we could try several things and get the full experience since most of us had never dined here before. The menu is tight but has many vegetarian and gluten free options. I really loved that they had several zero proof mocktails to choose from as well. I ordered the Pomoelmo di Calabria (think spicy Paloma but with zero proof reposado) and it was lovely. We ordered the rosemary focaccia with olive oil and tomato jam and the insalata di farro antipasti. The focaccia was excellent! Beautiful texture and aromas which paired perfectly with the buttery olive oil and tomato jam. The insalata was very flavorful and had interesting and exciting ingredients like pickled fennel and anchovy breadcrumbs. So good! My favorite dish we ordered was the capesante del sottobosco which featured delicious, buttery trumpet mushrooms with sweet pea risotto. I wasn't expecting this to be my favorite but it really blew me away with the complexity of flavors and textures. The whole table was in agreement! For dessert, you must get the limoncello layer cake and bomboloni. The limoncello cake was light, creamy, and oh so lemony. A perfect ending to a great meal! The bomboloni was also excellent and had the most delicious hazelnut chocolate cream inside that I am still thinking about as I write this review. Service was great and the food came out quickly. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Yes yes. It's been awhile since I've posted, so I actually got my elite status revoked. That put insult to the injury. But I must write a review despite the pain. We've been to Cafe Cami often for lunch. Never for dinner, but finally got a night away from our toddler king for Mother's Day. Yay! Reservation process simple and the vibes are wonderful. Lovely ambiance, candles lit, good music, perfect volume. The food is always good here. But why did I feel like ratatouille eating this charcuterie board? It was too good, do I even deserve it? Then it's get better as we wait in anticipation for our pasta. Which I ordered the same one I always do because if somethings not broke why fix it? Why not use it if it's in excellent condition? Ok anyways you get the point. Alla Lanterna never disappoints My husband usually gets Sunday gravy but he tried something new which he liked too. The QUALITY of every ingredient is specifically picked for the experience and artfully crafted to be the perfect pairing. There's a lot of thought that goes into every dish here. And we really appreciate the thoughtfulness and care that goes into it. I can't really explain everything. But the balance between salt, acid, fat, heat....combined with aldente to perfection. Anyways! We got strawberry gelato and a cannoli with a decaf lungo. Honestly, I was so sad this meal was over. I can't wait to come back for dinner. The service is always great here too! Thank you staff at Cafe Campli! This cafe reminds us of being in Europe. As we are in the process of moving to our new country, it's such a nostalgic yet future promising memory to create when we come here. It's not an experience you can get everywhere.

Yelp
Tucked away just off Harford Road, Cafe Campli is bringing Abruzzo-focused cuisine to the neighborhood with a dash of elegance and flair. We booked a table for restaurant week dinner--the perfect avenue for checking out this new buzz worthy spot. The restaurant itself is a welcoming lot cozy and intimate setting, with a small number of tables tucked away from the bar entrance. A delightful atmosphere for date night and small group meals alike. Service was a bit inconsistent throughout the evening, with gaps in attentiveness to our table. That being said, the restaurant was fully booked and bustling, so I imagine the team is just getting their flow under their feet. Service when present was inviting, friendly and professional. As the vegetarian at the table, my decision on three plates was an easy one! I started with the Polpette di Verdure--fried vegetable croquettes with a tomato based side sauce. The croquettes were cooked to perfection with that delicious melt in your mouth soft interior but crispy exterior. With interwoven Parmesan Reggiano, they achieved a creamy texture with a pop of salt to elevate the flavorful vegetable base. Next up, Mezze maniche con vincotto e noci (Le Marche)--a truncated penne like pasta with walnut pesto. Talk about al dente perfection! An ideal pasta shape to deliver hidden corridors of sauce sneaking inside. I loved that the dish wasn't over-sauced. The ratio allowed each element to shine, with the red wine adding a next level flavor profile to the pesto. Last of the evening was Capesante del Sottobosco--trumpet mushrooms meant to mimic scallops, over kale. Unfortunately, this dish was a bit of a flop for me. Compared to the flavor punch of the first two courses, this one lacked "umf". The mushrooms were cooked beautifully but had little flavor beyond subtle earthiness. The kale tasted a bit heavy handed on the salt, and the leeks just felt out of place. The bite just didn't seem to come together, and I didn't find the plating as strong visually as other dishes on the menu. At the end of the evening, we were certainly convinced to make a return trip though! Thank you for a nice evening Cafe Campli team and look forward to trying more of the menu.

Yelp
Solid food, great food actually. Campy, small dining room with a sufficient bar for its size. Table was rather small for a 2 top, not really a complaint as much as an observation. Service tho: we were greeted with "what do you want or do you have a question". Not kidding. Those were the first words spoken to us by the server. At first, I thought she was kidding or being playful with us. She didn't want to be there and we didn't want her at our table, either. The bartender was helping her serve and he made a huge difference. I really wanted to ask that she not come back to our table. When I return, if she is working, we will leave. We also had to ask her to take our drink order. Oh, and "are you ready to rock and roll"

Yelp
A hidden gem in Baltimore in the Hamilton neighborhood. It's owned by the cutest couple and the a small restaurant with a bar area. The menu rotates seasonally and they on occasion host Italian lessons during weekday. It's an Abruzzo region inspired Italian restaurant with great wines and maybe the best amaro offering in the city. Friendly and knowledgeable service. They have a self serve water station. Worth the drive and maybe the best place to have an early dinner!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at Cafe Campli! Upon walking in, I immediately loved the space. It is bright, modern, and welcoming. It has a slight contemporary diner feel because you can see some of the dessert options on display in a case when you walk in- which made dessert verrry tempting! I ordered their version of an Aperol Spritz, which was good, and my companions and I shared the focaccia with tomato jam- it was good! For my main I ordered the sausage and squash pasta which was delicious. I also tried the Sunday gravy which I was a huge fan of, and pumpkin ravioli which was also a winner! For dessert I ended up ordering their tiramisu gelato which was fantastic! Service was also really friendly and attentive and knowledgable. I will definitely return!

Rachel R.

Yelp
I enjoyed my sandwich a lot! It's a cute little place (we did take out but checked it out) that clearly puts a lot of attention into the details. Except one. While the meat, sauce and bread were delicious and had a lot of thought put into them--every bite was great--my husband and I ordered the same sandwich and mine was about 1/4 larger. It made a big difference! These aren't cheap sandwiches (and they shouldn't be) but I'd expect them to at least similar in size. I didn't realize until my husband grabbed his and I was already eating how uneven they were! It was odd. That said, they were really good sandwiches! I'd happily eat food from there again. It's in a odd location (the entrance is actually on Southern) but worth seeking out.

Yelp
Really loved my first visit. All was great and super authentic Abruzzo area Italian food! I had a thick ravioli-like pasta dish filled with spring delights like fresh peas, ricotta, garlic and onion. Sooo great. The rabbit bolognese was fast but needed a bit more meat in the sauce...abut scant...other dishes were amazing however....and the cake was wow. I also got a sardine on toast appetizer that was fresh And very nice. This would have had a 5 rating if the rabbit dish had been a bit better, but the menu had 8-10 things I desperately wanted to try. I will be back for the Sunday gravy!!!! Motte bene!!!!
google avatar

Sani I.

Yelp
Excellent service and ambience. Definitely considering going back, but I have to share some disappointments experience by us that I hope the restaurant takes as constructive feedback. We try to order the ravioli which the restaurant was out of so we settled for an alternative pasta. That was just OK. Well I understand that ravioli is usually made in limited quantities and can run out at the end of the night, it is rather puzzling that they were out of brussels sprouts , instead we had to settle for cauliflower, which were themselves steamed and disappointing. As far as I know Brussel sprouts are not imminently perishable so stocking enough of them is not an arduous task.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful date night here. All of the dishes were delicious but the alla lanterna was my very favorite. Our server was quick and friendly too! Highly recommend dinner here. It's a cozy spot, I recommend getting a reservation!

Yelp
Awesome new addition to the Harford Rd corridor. Had a very, very delicious sandwich here the other day for lunch. It was the Verdura panini- a veggie sandwich of eggplant, mozzarella, mushrooms, tomato jam, arugula, and garlic aioli on ciabatta. Seriously very good & well portioned, served with tasty chips. Also tried some focaccia and that was enjoyable as well. I love a good bread. They have an online ordering system (for lunch only), which is something I love and, as an introvert, always makes me more likely to order from a restaurant lol. It wasn't working the first few times I tried to order (just kept saying "closed today" but seems to be back up!). Love that, and hope they eventually could do it for dinner as well. Anyway, I know this was only my first visit but the food was so good I wanted to review early. Will definitely be adding them to my lunch lineup & look forward to trying other sandwiches, the pastas & dinner items soon. So glad to have a great place in this spot & hope they will be around for awhile!

Sophie A.

Yelp
I have always loved this place so much but I realized after yet another amazing meal last night that I've never left a review. This fall menu is outstanding. All their pasta is made in house, and this dish specifically had sage infused into the pasta dough. The butternut squash ragu was insane, the perfect balance of sweet and salty, such an amazing cozy fall dish that I know I will end up dreaming about soon lol. The porchetta was SO tender, I could cut it with one swipe of my butter knife. Seasoned to perfection and sat on top of a healthy amount of parsley chimichuri that brought so much to the dish. The octopus salad was pretty good, I think I'm just not that into octopus, but if I were I'd definitely order this again. The arugula and fennel compliment it all so well. This new fall menu features a wine map that I was very entertained by. Drinks are always amazing. We finished it all off with some strawberry gelato that was perfect. Amazing night, and Cafe Campli continues to be my favorite restaurant in Baltimore.

Yelp
Wonderful time here this past Sunday. We took over the entire place for a lunch after my daughters baptism just up the street. Paul the owner was great as well as all the other staff. Food was amazing....charcuterie upon arrival and then course after course after course. Everything was so fresh and and was delicious. Focaccia, rigatoni with ox tail, arugula salad, roasted pork with a fresh chimichurri and assorted focaccia sandwiches of chicken thighs and eggplant. This is now our new go-to for small gatherings. Everything about the place, the staff and the food was wonderful. We had 8 young kids with us too and the staff was great with them!

Yelp
Really excellent. Great service, all the food was top notch. Nice little cafe atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I had been to this place before, so this not a 'once bitten twice shy' review. A friend ordered a Pasta dish that took an 'Italian' amount of time to arrive. The usual bar trick for my Sangria is to pack the glass with ice so I might see a cup of wine in there...not good.. my Fruitta Al Mar, if it can be called that, was good with one disagreeable appointment. In the dish was some kind of substitute for Calamari that was litteraly IMPOSSIBLE to chew, the same for cutting, with either a knife or fork. I should have complained, but didn't. The Ambience was friendly, Service was ok, but the complaint above is really a sticking point for me. Won't be returning, unless I just want to drink diluted Sangria.

Yelp
I was impressed by the food, but not as much by the service. My party of three had a reservation for restaurant week. The restaurant is tiny. When we first arrived, we walked up to the counter and were ignored by several workers. We were standing right it front of them and no one said anything. After standing there for a few minutes, I grabbed someone's attention. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes for our table, which was fine. Everything I tried (baccala mantecato, polpette di verdure, speck crostini, uscita ascoli piceno, uscita ortona and uscita gargano) had good flavor, with my favorite dishes being the roasted lamb shoulder and the walnut pesto pasta. Everything was well balanced. The service once we sat down was fine, but the initial entrance into the restaurant left a bad taste in all of our mouths. Service: 3/5, Food: 4/5.

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit to Cafe Campli, in a cool new building on Harford Road and Southern Avenue. Our server was delightful and informed. We shared focaccia, linguini and clams, and a polenta and Ragu dish for two. We loved every bite. I hope folks discover this lovely casual Italian dining spot.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience at Cafe Campli! The food was amazing, they had multiple vegatarian options, which was a huge plus! The service was great and the staff was very knowledgeable and welcoming. .Will definitely be back!

Yelp
It was a wonderful afternoon. Get Nico to concoct one of his special brews for you. You won't be disappointed. And do not pass up the salumi misti, a delicious board with beautifully assorted Italian aged meats and cheeses. Biggest "YUM" on Harford Road! We were more than happy!

Yelp
I highly recommend checking out this spot! the food is amazing, such a thoughtfully curated food and drinks menu. amazing amaro selection. The service was fantastic and the ambience was cute and relaxing. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed chatting with the bartender. The food was delicious, it's amazing to have a spot focusing on Abruzzo-inspired Italian food in the city. Well worth a visit

Yelp
We went this week having heard good things about Cafe Campli and were not disappointed. It was a weeknight and they were not very busy. The small bar was filled but there were a number of open tables. This is a very comfortable unpretentious place. We liked the small, approachable wine list, which was cleverly presented on a map of Italy so that you could see where the wine comes from. The food was very tasty. We shared the octopus antipasti. It was a salad with marinated octopus, raisins, potato and arugula. The pastas were excellent. One was particularly interesting. It was a lemon pasta with cauliflower and garbanzo bean puree, with anchovy bread crumbs. Our other pasta was a delicious chewy, thick semolina pasta and a red sauce with eggplant. We shared the porchetta (with a delicious chimichurri sauce) and the lamb shoulder. The portions were neither large or small, just right if you are having all courses. We shared a slice of pistachio, ricotta cheese cake for dessert. It was light and flavorful. A nice touch was a candle to acknowledge our anniversary. The only modest downside was the bread, which was fine but I felt it unnecessary to charge. The server was very pleasant, and someone who may be one of the owners helped out and also spoke with us about the wine. They were just beginning their summer menu. We will definitely return but will probably wait for the fall menu, as the menu is small.

Yelp
Super friendly service, great cocktails and delicious food. The pasta with clam sauce was garlicky and tasty and the polenta with sausage ragu was absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Love this place so much! We've been for brunch a few times and dinner for the first time last night. The food is the freshest and most delicious. The drinks are top notch. Dessert is fantastic. Staff is warm and welcoming. Atmosphere is quaint and simple with small details that make it unique and fun. So happy to have this place in our neighborhood. Can't wait to go back again!!

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect. Utterly perfect. There is nothing they could do to make it any better than it is- our meal was delightful. It is the very best type of restaurant: the food is perfection and it is prepared by the loving hands of people who want you to love food in the way they love food. There is nothing but love coming out of their kitchen. Love for you as the patron who will eat the meal, and love for the ingredients that go into the preparation of the meal. Thank you to all of those who contributed their hard work to creating a beautiful meal and experience for me and my husband. You restaurant is a joy to be celebrated!

Yelp
I enjoyed my first meal at Cafe Campli last evening. The intimate space is beautifully appointed. We were greeted promptly when we arrived and our table was ready. The service was wonderful, attentive and prompt and all our questions about menu items were explained. Our foursome enjoyed some of the specials as well as seasonal menu items. We started with the polenta with candied root vegetables which consisted of a shareable polenta cake, candied parsnips & carrots, herb goat cheese & ricotta cream, thyme olive oil, and toasted pepitas. We also tried the house made focaccia which was crispy and pillowy at the same time, it was delicious. Two of us tried the rigatoni with Sunday gravy (an oxtail and sausage ragu) and there no leftovers. One member of our party tried the Raviolone, an enormous, almost plate sized ravioli filled with roasted mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, and topped with salsa pomodoro. She had to take 1/2 of it home. My husband tried the porchetta Camplese and it was delicious and so well seasoned. The side dishes are perfectly portioned to accompany the entrees. We enjoyed the roasted potatoes, arugula salad and the Brussel sprouts. The entree portion sizes are great but we still managed to make some room for dessert, a large softball sized bamboloni filled with a hazelnut cream and dusted with confectionary sugar. Think of it as an extra fancy donut! Our overall experience was amazing, the place was bustling and busy but everyone seemed to be accommodated quickly. Diners waiting for a table seemed to enjoy being in the intimate bar space socializing with other folks. One thing that stood out was the cocktail menu. There were so many tempting offerings and they did not miss out on crafting beautiful mocktails. I would highly recommend Cafe Campli!

Yelp
On 12/27/23 My sister had reservations at Cafe Campli. We started with a board of meat and cheeses which was fine, but the bread that came with it was sort of anemic looking. Two of us ordered the pasta dish with a Ragu of wild boar and mushrooms. The restaurant is known for its homemade pasta and they should have down precisely the time to cook it to get it to a perfect Al Dente, but unfortunately it was under cooked. But an even greater problem was the over salting of the ragu. A proper level of salt brings out all of the flavors of a dish, but over salting does just the opposite. Another dish ordered was a butternut squash risotto, which not only looked unappetizing but indeed was. The last dish ordered was a salad with chicken an walnuts with way too much chicken and walnuts but little arugula, and flavor wise left much to be desired. Given the good reviews perhaps it was a bad night in the kitchen, but some of these issues were inexcusable for an experienced kitchen.
