"This bustling bistro is particularly great for late dinners and brunch: The menu is nice and succinct, offering the classics you want after a few glasses of wine. You’ll find steak au cheval, steak tartare, a selection of burgers, and a sampling of salads, plus a small wine list mostly offered by the carafe. This is one of the few places open on Sunday."

Extremely good service. The food is also good, we liked the fried calamari and ravioli, but the crust of veal milanese is a bit disappointing. The lava cake is decent. We would come back, great atmosphere.

Visited relatively early on a Sunday morning and we were gestured (with an aggressive and swift hand by a frowning blonde waitress with hair pinned up) to sit wherever we wanted. We waited and seemed as though we were unnoticed for about 15 minutes. Things did get better once our waiter came to our table and took our order. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. Only had about a 10 minute wait before receiving our order. We ordered a ham & cheese omelette, fried eggs with bacon, a croissant, a pain au chocolat, orange juice, a cappuccino and a hot chocolate. The dishes, pastries and drinks were excellent.

What a night! The food was spectacular. Steak frites, burrata, beans, wine - ohh la la. The flavours were exceptional. Service was kind, welcoming, and made us feel like we’re dining with friends. Highly recommend and can’t wait come back!

While walking through the neighborhood, we found this busy, local establishment to be a good place for dinner. I had the salmon and an avocado tartare with fries. Mom had chicken and risotto. Both dishes were very enjoyable. Service was attentive - something I don’t usually find in Paris. And there was a Brooklyn Brewery beer on tap! Since I live in Brooklyn, I had to have a taste of home. Thanks for a great dining experience!

Google
Fun spot with good vibes! A bartender recommended we come here for a good local steak and it didn't disappoint. We got the peppercorn steak and lemon chicken and both were lovely. Huge plus that it stays open late!

Google
What an amazing find. We had such great food, great service, so friendly and helpful. Great portions, and reasonable prices! Thanks for a great evening!

Google
We were greeted warmly by the host and seated immediately. The two young men who waited on us were so thoughtful and attentive. I am not sure how to spell the first server’s name but it starts with an “M”. Such a kind and helpful young man! He was very willing to answer questions and made sure out bread basket and water glasses were filled. We returned tonight to be served by Sam. He provided us excellent service as well. He checked in to make sure that my husband’s steak was prepared at the right temperature. He was equally as attentive. The dishes are freshly made and full of flavor! Recommend the pepper steak and ravioli. We also had the Burrata salad tonight and baked Camembert the previous night. Both are excellent starters.

Yelp
I know I look like an uncultured American by ordering a burger but desperate times call for desperate measures. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality. I just wish the burger had some more sauce. The fries were cooked well and I enjoyed the Mayo dip. Service was very quick for French standards and there was no wait.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, apple juice, and breakfasts with great staff. Apricot jam was really good, eggs Benedict was delightfully full of flavor, and pain au chocolat was thoroughly enjoyed.

Yelp
I highly recommend this adorable local bistro. I was there when the weather was nice and loved sitting outside. I visited the location numerous times on my stay and I recommend it to others as well! yummy!

Yelp
My sister & I stopped in for wine. After having dinner across the street. We sat at the bar. Our waiter was friendly & attentive. I love the ambiance, very classy . Cute neighborhood!

Yelp
Cozy, lively atmosphere. Good, efficient service. Good drinks, large charcuterie platters. Camembert with honey needed more honey.

Yelp
This review is way late but better late than never. We ate here while visiting Paris in the summer and it was delicious. A cute little quaint Paris cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The coke soda in France is on another level let's just get that out of the way first, it hits different. I had the mushroom and onion risotto and it was delicious. See for yourself. It's a pet friendly place by the way too!

Yelp
I was initially hesitant to try Cafe Charlot given its 3.5 rating on Yelp, but it was the top recommendation from our hotel receptionist. The place was happening full of customers. The food was fantastic (two different chickens, two pastas, croque monsieur), and the service was great.

Yelp
We loved this place - the goat cheese sale was incredible and I'm not even a goat cheese fan! The lentils and lardons was also very good. Generous pouts of wine and amazing service - a really great staff that made you feel very welcomed. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
First time here I had the pepper steak (veritable steak) and wow that was delicious French fries were great. The chicken on the Cesar salad was tasteful and delicious I give the steak a 9/10. Delicious. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
First time dining and had a fantastic time! Came towards the later part of the night but had an amazing steak frites, creme brulee and a coke! Service was fast and friendly! Definitely recommended !

Yelp
Amazing place for lunch and dinner. Our waiter, MK, was absolutely the best. Really great service, delicious food, and such typical great Parisian ambiance.

Yelp
Best escargot! Great autmosphere and hip area. Can't forget the cookie next door on the way out :)

Yelp
The worse service I've experienced in Paris. Rude servers and even worse management. Looks good from the outside but don't come inside.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and had the eggs Benedict. It was good. Eggs were nicely poached, bacon was large and crisp and the hollandaise sauce was good - not too thick. Great if you're looking for more than just pastries for breakfast.

Yelp
This sidewalk café in Le Marais is where you go to see and be seen. It was packed both inside and out, but we were able to snag a table right outside, situated on their bustling corner with perfect people-watching views. I went with a carafe of passionfruit juice, while my friend a couple beers on tap. The service was friendly and we were attended to by a few waiters. I love that in Paris you're never rushed to give up your seat, taking as much time as you want, even if you're simply mulling over drinks. The chic gals next to us were downing bottomless bowls of salads that looked quite tasty too.

Yelp
Beautiful space, fantastic location. Unfortunately the service is not terrific and the prices are too high for the quality provided. A nice place to see or be seen, but if value is what you seek, you won't find it here.

Yelp
This was a divine experience and one of my best meals in Paris so far. The server was very accommodating and spoke English with us and he even helped me pronounce chaud correctly lol. My friend was excited that they had vegetarian friendly options as many places in the area did not. Even the table setting was an art form and cool to watch. The food came fairly quickly and was so good we hummed and danced. My chicken risotto was to die for. It was cooked perfectly, not dry and had a grilled/ rotisserie taste to it that I adore. Reminded me of KFC grilled chicken flavor. The gravy on top was flavorful and seasoned, and the risotto was absolutely perfect and creamy and cheesy. The chive ravioli was also perfect. The small ravioli were soft but packed with burst of flavor and were absolutely awesome. I had a tropical drink and a chocolate chaud. The drink was minty and I enjoyed it well, and the chocolate chaud was top three that I've had in Paris. Definitely de recommend this place and hope to return during my stay here.

Yelp
Before we sat down at Cafe Charlot, our friend told us two things: #1. They make a fantastic omelette. #2. The service is terrible. Unfortunately for us, #2 was so true that we never got to see if #1 was. I like to think I'm a patient person, especially in Paris where sitting on the street and people-watching is my favorite activity, but the wait for service here was above and beyond the normal laissez-faire attitude. That said, if you aren't in danger of getting hangry, the corner is spectacular for people-watching and the coffee is equally spectacular, although the prices are astronomical (€17 for two coffees and a tea).

Yelp
My boyfriend Cody and I had the pleasure of spending New Years Eve this year at Cafe Charlot. As much as Paris can seem intimidating at times, Cafe Charlot instantly became both familiar and exciting all at once. It's not a place to just grab a cup of coffee. Nor is it a place to simply stop by for a quick bite to eat. Cafe Charlot is a place that you come and experience. Sitting in the middle of the cafe in the heart of the Marais, you can hear multiple languages being spoken within earshot, the clamoring of celebratory champagne and wine glasses, and yet somehow you can also get lost in your own world with whoever it is you came with. There's an essence about this place that can draw you in and make you never want to leave. Far be it from me (an American) to define what a "true" Parisian cafe experience should entail, but it is one that will confirm all of the beautiful things you've heard about Paris, while simultaneously dispelling all of the negative ones you've ever been told. Merci Beacoup for an amazing NYE! Hope to see you again very soon! -Tyler & Cody

Yelp
Amazing place, great food and even better service. It was my last night in Paris and I was growing tired of the poor quality food. This place saved my whole experience and the late night availability along with the friendly very helpful staff was just what I needed. Charles was absolutely the best.

Yelp
What I like most about Cafe Charlot is the location and style, very French, yet modern, right in the middle of a very Parisian street, rue de Bretagne. As the food is good, however very pricey, I only find myself here when friends from out of town are interested in it. We had caesar salad with smoked salmon, chicken club sandwich with fries, avocado vinaigrette and rooibois tea. All very tasty and fresh. Service was friendly as well and they were happy to give us a doggy-bag to take home the half-finished sandwich.

Yelp
This is definitely one of my favorite places to dine in Paris. The Ravioles du Royans, champignons (ravioli) keeps me coming back every visit to France. The Filet de poulet, risotto mozzarella was also delicious. This corner cafe has great ambiance and the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating for non-French speakers.

Yelp
We came here on a fluke. The bakery we wanted to go to was closed. It was 7:30am and options were limited. We saw a guy enjoying a croissant at the shop at this time so we figured they were open super early. We snagged a table and then found out the kitchen was closed until 8. We could still have juice, espresso, and pastries, so hey why not? We had the typical French fare of fresh pressed OJ, grilled bread w/butter and jam, and shared a croissant and pain au chocolat. We also got a couple of cups of chocolat chaud, because vacation calories don't count. Everything was very good. Service was French. Just do your ordering and prepare to be served in whatever order they feel like, and if you're in a hurry you'll need to ask for "l'addition, s'il vous plaît."

Yelp
We stopped by here on a walk for the chocolat chaud (chocolate de charlot), which was as good or better than the fancy spots (like Ladurée). Ambience lovely, and the hot chocolat was so good we got another.

Yelp
This place was awesome. The environment was hip and the bar was alive. I got the burger and it was delicious. We stopped here in New Year's Day after stumbling upon it. I was extremely satisfied. The service was outstanding and you could tell the staff was making a point to make our experience great (literally three guys SPRINTING around the restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone in town.

Yelp
Came for the steak tartare as our last meal before heading to the airport and it didn't disappoint. Was seated quickly and the service was attentive and friendly. The steak tartare itself was very good and at a good price as well. I would be interested in trying their other food items next time.

Yelp
Enjoyed delicious espresso and the absolute best pain au chocolat! Service isn't great but the location and free WiFi help to make up for it. I could sit here all day and watch the world pass by. This place takes you back in time with its vintage charm, life slows down while you sit and sip.

Yelp
Cafe' Charlot IS WHERE WE DO BRUNCH IN PARIS! There are no others that can compare. If you want BRUNCH and you want it done right and d*mn good, then scoot your toot to CAFE CHARLOT! Now I am ONLY reviewing this place on their Brunch and their one MUST ORDER breakfast dish PAIN PERDU (also known as FRENCH TOAST in America). Thanks to a lovely Paris Food Blogger named Miss Devour I was able to find this amazing Brunch Plate. Pain Perdu is only ever served with the brunch plate on Sundays, a delicious forest of ramekins filled with creamy eggs, smoked salmon, herbed crème fraiche, seasonal fruit and a plum tomato salad. Pain Perdu is sweet, but not too sweat, moist and smooth like a marshmallow of brioche, cream, eggs and sugar. Just make sure when you arrive on Sunday to ask if they are serving food off the Brunch Menu yet. If not, take a small stroll or grab a coffee and wait. The picture I'm including with this review speaks for yourself. Stop drooling and get yourself some! ;-)

Yelp
The first meal in paris. It was very good: good service(server speak english, some of them are even smile),perfectly cooked egg(in french standard, very runny, perfectly yellow, no burn spot). Very simple menu, we didn't have to spend long time to decide which one .... Omelette, benedict, coffee. Eggs benedict was typical; perfectly cooked eggs, good portion of ham but not exceptional, the omelette was however great. Everything was very good until very typical Parisienne sat right next to us invading our space; right next to us, just like she is with us, there are plenty of other tables! Strange woman... Anyway overall it was nice, looking outside, watching people...

Yelp
Cafe Charlot is a lovely spot for people-watching while brunching with friends. We came on a Saturday early afternoon and each ordered the 20 euro set brunch (came with eggs, smoked salmon, pain perdu, fruit, coffee, juice). The food was delicious! The service was friendly but SLOWWWW (perhaps because it was a busy weekend). The environment and ambiance made up for that though. A good spot to eat and spend a couple hours in Haut Marais! Right across from Marche des Enfants Rouges.

Yelp
Worst part of our trip to Paris. It took the waiter about 15mins to bring us the menu. Another 10 to take our orders. We sat there and all ordered something except one, he didn't want to have anything... such a crime! The waiter told us that he needs to order something in order to sit there. What?! Ridiculous. Overall, we were treated like shit and beyond that the service was bad.

Yelp
My family and I were walking back to our Airbnb after a night out while looking for a late night meal. It was around 11:00 PM and we discovered most kitchens are closed around that time. We asked around and we were directed to Cafe Charlot because their kitchen closes at 12:00 AM. It was easily found and we were seated right away. It seemed as if many of the locals come here for late night drinks. The place was so cute and filled with good vibes! We ordered a hamburger, the chicken risotto, and the cheese plate. The hamburger was very flavorful. It was filled with greens, tomatoes, and some kind of tangy sauce. You could taste that the meat was fresh. Overall, it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Unless you have a big appetite, I recommend you split it in half with someone. The chicken risotto was delicious. The risotto was a bit heavy because it was really rich and thick. On the other hand the chicken was extremely moist and covered in a barbecue sauce. This plate was split among three people so if you're looking for a small meal you may want to share. The cheese plate was nice to have with some wine. It was only about 10 euros for four/five different cheeses. Also, it was nice to pair with the bread they provide. Lastly, the service is kinda slow but it seems like it is just a cultural thing. So if you need something or the bill right away you are better off getting up and asking someone!

Yelp
perfect place to grab a seat outside and a café...we enjoyed a couple artichokes, an omelette, and salads...and were on our way.

Yelp
I went here on my own yesterday and was approached by the waiter in a grossly flirtatious way, as he was cornering me against the wall. I then proceeded to order a cup of coffee and their tiny and expensive eggs benedict. After I finished and was about to pay, another waiter, again cornered me against the wall asking me for money, i think he was afraid I was not going to pay, maybe becausw I wasn't white? I speak french and I am classy. Moreover, would never order something I cannot afford! Anyway, I felt generally disrespected. What a shame.

Yelp
Rue de Bretagne is a great street for multitudes of wine cafes. Cafe Charlot has an amazing happy hour menu - 3 euro red and white wine! The bartender here was really nice and unlike a lot of other places, he spoke decent English. Thank god I didn't have to bust out my terrible French. Wished I could have eaten here as well but we came after lunch. There's always next time~
google avatar

Ellen M.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would. Do no go here. Especially if you are American. They take advantage of you. They charged us for more drinks than we had. Do not go here.
google avatar

Rio J.

Yelp
Hands down, one of my favorite go-tos whenever I am in town. The most quintessential of French bistros in a really nice part of Haut Marais, this place isn't all about that perfect French decor or the beautiful people who seem to always congregate there. It's definitely about their très très goooood food - my favorites are the salmon burger (real salmon slab, not patty, sandwiched in between so much goodness) and their goat cheese salad - their sharp service and their drinks that complement the vibe of the place so well! The location is great for people-watching as well. On the corner of Rue du Bretagne and Rue Charlot, you can spend hours here just facing the street, sipping un café, while reveling in the Paris-ness of that moment. They are open until late too, unlike other places in the city, so yay!!
google avatar

Karina K.

Yelp
Ok this is one of the places to be (and be seen) in the Marais, drinks are affordable for Paris, and they have a really nice terrace facing South, very sunny. That said, don't go for the food because it is a total rip off. Quality is mediocre and prices outrageous (burgers are 17-20 euros, croque monsieurs 14, Tomato +Mozzarealla Salad 16, etc...). Nothing annoys me more than poor bang for my buck. Am ok to pay a good price for quality, but this is not the case here. I had a Caesar Salad that had me cry when the waitress brought it over: tons of iceberg lettuce, tasteless slices or white chicken straight from the supermarket cellophane packaging, some parmesan slices that were ok but just ok, and a kind of ranch sauce I could not really taste it was so bland. And it cost me 15 Euros. That was not worth the price for looking at a bunch of tourists and model wanna-bes. The décor is in the now overdone old-style French bistro, but it works. Just go for a glass of something outside on the terrasse.
google avatar

Liza L.

Yelp
Best meal we ate in Paris, twice! Delicious with cute staff dressed uniformly, it is very Parisian. We were in Paris during a very hot week so were seeking cooler dishes. We had the artichoke with vinegar and the tomatoes with mozzarella. Simple, fresh perfect flavor. We also returned for these dishes again and also got the salmon, perfection...and steak. We were fooled by a different steak on the menu which turned out to be hamburger with an egg on top so be sure that you get beefsteak with beurre with a side of pomme frites! Excellent! Oh...only negative but this isn't the restaurant because this is just the way it is in Paris but there is so much smoking during meals so ask for inside and try and position yourself near non-smokers.
google avatar

Marc A.

Yelp
Poor service, poor attitude, ran out of eggs and even injured my wife! The pastries were from Poillaine down the street. Doesn't really matter if you speak in English or French. Don't waste your time. Go to the market across the street or one of the numerous other places in the area. Too bad...up to this point all the cafes and bistros have been outstanding and excellent in service.
google avatar

David I.

Yelp
If you want to see true Parisian service at it's finest I'd have to say this is one of the places to visit. The staff were polite, fast and as good as some of the best I've seen, they know what they are doing and seem to love their jobs. The costs for breakfast was super great value, the croissants were fresh, crunchy and oh so very very good. It's a great start to a day exploring Paris, make sure you don't miss out on breakfast here. If you want great experience in Paris then this is the perfect place!

Sarah H.

Yelp
My favorite spot for an omelette nature. I can't wait to come back when Americans are allowed to travel anywhere again.
google avatar

Mia J.

Yelp
Stopped in here looking for brunch on a Saturday. They only serve their brunch plate on a Sunday, but given that I never seem to need all the 'extras' the Parisians add to their brunch, the simple eggs Benedict and Florentine on the regular menu were ideal Saturday fare for us. Charming if hurried service, lovely seating outside in the sunshine, outstanding freshly squeezed orange juice (I almost had a second glass) and decent eggs (the bacon was even nice!). Reasonable prices given the area and the excellent people watching one can do. I would not cross Paris for this place but if I'm in the area I'd definitely come back.
google avatar

Laure M.

Yelp
Not impressed, service less than polite, they never learnt how to smile? Good place for a drink or coffee but the food is less than average. My friends each got the burrata salad which was very small. I got the steak à cheval but the steak is a steak haché (ground meat). Served with fries, i asked for salad and was charged an extra 4 euros. Never mind. We had lots of drinks (champagne) and the waiter was not very friendly. Small place, not great service, I won't return.
google avatar

Cary S.

Yelp
This place was a great local cafe in Paris to enjoy a great morning breakfast among the locals. If I lived here, this would be my morning breakfast stop before work.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
This was the closest café to where we were staying, and had breakfast there three or four times. The combo with soft-boiled egg, toast, croissants, hot beverage, and fresh-squeezed orange juice was a good deal at about $15 each. The orange juice is exceptionally good, IMO, though my partner thought it had too much pulp. The service was mildly gruff, but in a friendly way. They have an excellent outdoor seating area looking out on Rue Bretagne and Rue Charlot. Great people watching.
google avatar

Meg K.

Yelp
We grabbed lunch here after dropping our luggage at our airbnb. My toasted goat cheese salad, with a glass of proseco was a perfect start to our stay in Paris. Fresh greens, a sprinkle of herbs and a side of fries. Yum! Service was pleasant. A great place to sit and people watch.
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Paris, staff was very friendly, brunch was outstanding!
google avatar

Edward J.

Yelp
Excellent service, incredibly fast compared to other venues. And the food was fantastic also. I'd usually regret paying €20 for a cheeseburger but this one was worth it!
