Cafe Colette - Review - Williamsburg - New York - The Infatuation

"You know what’s suspect? When you ask someone if a restaurant is good and their answer is, “well, they have a really good brunch.” Oh, so you mean they serve mediocre food five days out of the week, but then they totally step up their game for poached eggs and scones? F*ck, we should go. That’s pretty much the story with Cafe Colette. This place is always in the mix when people talk about brunch in Williamsburg. Not that we ourselves are participating in that conversation, but we do know a handful of 24 year olds. They love brunch. From what we can tell, Cafe Colette does seem to do weekend daytime food pretty well, and they also have a very good espresso and coffee bar situation set up. But what about the other five days of the week? Judging by the several meals we’ve now had here, this place is very average. Average except for one thing. The burger. I know what you’re thinking - every place like this has a good burger. They are, after all, a staple of brunch menus. But this one is seriously good. Best in Brooklyn good. Ready for the kicker? They do a great plate of brussels sprouts too. And would you be surprised to learn that they also have a very good cocktail menu? Didn’t think so. Isn’t this exciting? Food Rundown Grilled Flatbread There are usually a couple of flatbreads on the menu at Cafe Colette, and I’ve decided I am definitely not into “flatbreads.” That word is usually employed in substitution for “pizza” or “food we’re going to overcharge you for.” And I’m pretty sure The Maccaroni Grill coined it. Skip them here, and also everywhere. Chilled Watermelon A watermelon salad with mint, lime, chili, and ricotta salata. You could make this at home. Black Tuscan Kale This kale salad is reminiscent of a Caesar, and it’ll do just fine for the evening. Hand Cut Linguine A linguine and clams dish that we couldn’t finish, not because we were full, but because it wasn’t good. Whole Roasted Daurade This whole fish is a decent option for those of you who don’t eat meat but get dragged here with someone who wanted a burger. Cheeseburger and Fries This is the thing to order at Cafe Colette. The burger here is absolutely fantastic, thanks largely to some Big Mac-style special sauce, and a nice pillowy sesame seed bun. We prefer ours with Fontina cheese on it, but you can have American or Cheddar if you like. You’ll be happy regardless. Brussels Sprouts There are olives in these brussels sprouts, and I know how some of you think olives are grody. Don’t you worry, you can pick them out and not know the difference. But for those of us who are out of the fourth grade now, we actually like this combination a lot. Order ’em up." - Chris Stang

The One-Two Punch: A Date Night Dinner & Drinks Guide

"Once you’ve worked up a proper appetite with drinks and the kind of snacks that only make you hungrier, make your way right across the street to Colette and order one thing and one thing only: the burger. The conventional thing would be to split it, but get crazy and each order your own. Trust us, you’re going to want it." - katherine lewin

My friend and I went here the other day for some brunch. The waitress was nice but not super attentive. The food was definitely not worth the cost— it was overpriced for one slice of toast per person. I got the eggs and hash and it was not worth $17. There was too much random presentation and not enough actually filling food. My friend says it’s the same for her food— she got an avocado toast with an egg. I also ordered a frozen coffee which was tasty. The vibes of the place are nice.

Honestly such a joyful start to our day. If I could give the staff 10 stars I would. Everyone was the perfect combination of friendly and helpful, while providing space for a cozy brunch. McKenna was a delightful greeting and Veronica was a fantastic server throughout. The food was superb. Everything was very high quality and I will think about those hash browns for a long time. Congrats to the team here!

Google
We had brunch here with a short wait. The potato side dish was delicious, and the grilled cheese was also spot on. I really loved the vibe created by the large windows—such a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Definitely a great spot for a relaxed meal. Great neighborhood as well.

Went there to take a small dinner with my boyfriend on Saturday evening, it was pretty hot so we sat outside. It was a nice little corner, the overall atmosphere and service were great, food was little basic but delicious. The guy serving us was very attentive and we left with a good impression about the place in general. Will come back one day during the breakfast time to try :)

We have been to Colette several times, usually during the week early when they open. We went recently on a Saturday and the food was just as delicious with great service. We ate outdoors and enjoyed the nice weather in Williamsburg. The hash and eggs are never a disappointment. We also like the fact that we are able to get the eggs poached and switch out the hash brown patty triangles for the fries. Either one is delicious! The coffee and Irish coffee is amazing as well. Other standouts are the breakfast tacos, burger and French toast. Our server also suggested a slice of chocolate cake with my coffee which was fantastic. Cannot wait to go again!

Google
Came here after the BK Mile and they were a bit busy but still managed to get a table. They were very accommodating especially bc I had a stroller and a toddler. I got the tacos and the dressing was tasty. Only thing is, these prices are too high. Idk about half a dozen oysters for $25. Other than that, it was great. Oh! Get the frozen coffee!! Such a sweet treat

Google
Came here yesterday for breakfast with my mom who is in town visiting and had a great time. Our server (a tall guy with glasses) was awesome and really went out of his way to make sure our experience was a good one. Definitely get the Banh mi. The fries are incredible.

Google
Came across this place when a couple of friends were visiting. Spent most of the day at the East River and were looking for a place to grab a quick bite. My friends and I are more than happy to find this restaurant. The fish tacos and the oysters were amazing along with great atmosphere. It did get busy but service was on point. Will be back again.

Yelp
Cafe Collette is A Williamsburg gem, it's where you want to go for the most delicious fresh food and amazing atmosphere. We are regular customers and recently reserved the back room for a family event. The service was warm and efficient, the portions super generous, everyone raved at the end of the evening! We will definitely keep coming back. it always delivers. A unique restaurant, like no where else.

Yelp
Food:The menu looked promising, but the dishes we ordered were underwhelming. The strata, in particular, was a bit disappointing. The flavors were lackluster, and the dish lacked the richness and complexity we were expecting. Cost:The prices were a bit steep, especially considering the quality of the food. We felt that the dishes were overpriced for what we received. Environment: The cafe had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of an old-neighborhood breakfast spot. The decor was simple yet charming, creating a relaxed and comfortable dining experience. Service: The service was decent, but we felt understaffed. It took some time to get our order taken and the service was a bit slow overall. Uniqueness:While the cafe had a charming atmosphere, it didn't offer anything particularly unique or memorable. The menu was fairly standard, and the dishes we tried weren't exceptional.

Yelp
Cute spot to grab lunch and drinks. We didn't have reservations but we were able to be seated with 15 mins on Labor Day. I love how airy and open inside feels even though it's a small spot. In terms of food I ordered the cheeseburger which wasn't bad but I didn't love however the French fries were really good. Overall I would come back for drinks and a small bites but not sure if I'd have this as a sole destination for eating.

Yelp
Super cute atmosphere! 2 of us went in without a reservation on a Friday night and were able to get seats at the bar. I ordered the Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts side. Both were delicious. I had a glass of red to go with dinner. Their wine menu wasn't too big but had good options. The bartender took good care of us.

Yelp
My boyfriend found this place when he was searching for "best brunch places in Brooklyn" and this was 100% accurate! The service was fantastic and the food was out of this world. The vibes at Cafe Colette are immaculate and feel similar to a cafe in France, we sat in the garden room which is bright and perfect for any climate. Our group was so excited about all of the food options and could not decide what to order, but we were not disappointed with our decisions. Here is what we had: - Grilled Cheese (the three different cheeses made this dish! This is a must!) - Hamburger ( my friend said that the hamburger was cooked to perfection and the fries were out of this world) - Fried Eggs & Eggs and Hash (omg!! I tried the hash brown and it tasted like it was sent from heaven) The service was impeccable and made us feel at home, the food came out very quickly and the water glasses never ran dry. I highly recommend Cafe Colette and cannot wait to come back again soon! Thanks for a wonderful Brunch experience!!

Yelp
A great place to stop for an afternoon glass of wine, which is what my sister and I did. We sat outside under the warm sun and were greeted promptly by our server. We needed something to nosh on with our glasses of wine so we ordered fries and 1/2 dz oysters. The fries were DELICIOUS. Shoestring style and perfectly crisp and salted just right. So simple but done so right. The oysters tasted fresh but I'm also no oyster connoisseur. Cafe Colette was a great way to kick off my vacay in Brooklyn. If the rest of the food is anything like their fries, this is a great place to try if you're in the neighborhood. The vibe is very casual but still feels fancy enough to have wine and oysters al fresco!

Yelp
Good for a casual breakfast. Called ahead to walk in on a weekend morning before the brunch rush. The bar seats and remaining tables quickly filled up after we arrived. We ordered a chocolate scone, quiche, avocado toast and the eggs and hash. The hash browns were a favorite. I found the salad with the quiche a bit bitter for my taste otherwise super fresh. Was nice to have free refills on the drip coffee.

Yelp
This is a go-to of mine when friends are in town for a nice brunch. It's a little tight, so I do recommend either going at off-peak times or making a reservation in advance - though I have only been on the weekend for brunch. The food and service is great, albeit sometimes slow to refill waters. I usually get the quiche, though they have now replaced it with a new menu item that is just as great. The French toast is lovely especially with the berries. It is very dense though so I recommend it either as a full meal or to share. The hashbrowns are my favorite of the bunch!

Yelp
Such a cute restaurant! This hidden gem in Williamsburg is definitely worth a visit. The interior has a rustic vintage vibe and I enjoyed the photos on the walls. I did feel like the tables were a little too close together. I had to squeeze past people to sit down and you can clearly hear everyone's conversations. The French toast was SO good. Thick cut slices of bread that were the right amount of crispy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. Not too sweet with a nice cinnamon flavor and the berries were fresh. The fried eggs & hash were ok. I was looking forward to trying the hash browns. I had never seen them made in that shape and I had heard good things. They weren't bad, but ours were a little over cooked. We saw the ones on other tables were much lighter in color. The staff was very kind. We might've stayed a little too long after finishing our meals, but they did not rush us out and they continued to check on us and refill our waters. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Definitely a must try if you're in the area!

Yelp
Cute brunch spot in Brooklyn! If you go on a hot day, the frozen coffee cocktail hit the spot and they let you choose what liquor you would like it with. The espresso martini was great too! I really enjoyed the Banh mi sandwich (huge portion too!) and my friends got the cheeseburger and fries which was also a hearty portion. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but I enjoyed sitting inside. Not far from domino park too if you wanted to go for a nice stroll afterwards to digest (we did :) )

Kendra M.

Yelp
This was an old standby for me but during an ownership change there were some growing pains. But they're back! Cocktails superb, burger one of my favorites in the city and the luscious bucatini with clams and lardons was everything. The setting was festive and cozy and service was generally spot on. One little hiccup with a second glass of wine which was promptly comped. Happy to put Collette back into rotation.

Frenel M.

Yelp
Been coming to his place for at least 12 years, Maybe more actually because my daughter is 14 and I have pics of her around 1years old here. Simply put, they fell off. My wife loves it for some reason so we still go once or twice a year and we get in a fight every time. My wife also likes her burgers and steaks well done, so that should tell you about her taste when it comes to food. Got the fish & chips tonight, shit was so whack, ate two bites, waiter didn't even ask how the meal was, he knew it was whack.

Yelp
Quaint and cozy place in Brooklyn with a very cool, homely vibe.. The staff is super kind and sweet and so is the ambience.. Ordered Avocado Toast with Egg, Grilled Cheese and Fries along with a few cocktails.. The food was good and the fries were just exceptional... Definitely coming back here for seconds...

Yelp
Decided on this cute brunch spot last minute. This was probably one of the only few spots that didn't have a wait time. I had a surprisingly good-aged burger with yummy fries. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. The service was pretty good. Would definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a solid 3.5; not bad, not great. I ordered the fried chicken salad. The chicken had a nice coating, but the greens were too bitter and tasted off. The garlic dressing did not help. Plus side to the food is that all of their servings were pretty big, even at other tables with other menu items. Our waiter(s) kept stopping by my table several times within 1-3 minutes of each other. My date and I declined drinks, but two waiters asked several times each if we wanted them. It disturbed my conversation and was a little uncomfortable. The ambience is otherwise decent, but I think there's much better options in Williamsburg. I would not return

Yelp
Came to the neighborhood for brunch and everywhere we went, it seemed packed. We didn't even bother to put out names down. We walked by this brunch place and saw a few tables outside getting cleaned up and asked about the wait time. There wasn't any, so we got seated outside immediately. I order the French toast with berries and it honestly was VERY filling. I only ended up eating once slice. I would recommend only getting one slice (it's cheaper but I see why that's an option now- because it's a lot). The berries were sweet and fresh. I would recommend this place for a nice weekend brunch. Very central to the waters, brewery, etc.
google avatar

Eugenia K.

Yelp
Fart rating /5 The food was bland really oily and dull (basically full fart) If this was the only breakfast place in 100 miles I'd prob be excited but this is Williamsburg BK come on!! It's our fault not Colette. We should have known when we were the only people sitting at the cafe 15min after opening. We should get a 1/5 for choosing this place.
google avatar

Dimas B.

Yelp
The Service: the people that work there think you came to the place to sit down and watch the wallpaper. Order the food took nearly 40 minutes after I complained why it was taken so long?
google avatar

Cristina R.

Yelp
Server Saskia from Cafe Colette was amazingly attentive. Outdoor and indoor ambiance was great, especially the photography/art on the wall to the restrooms. I recommend you take your time enjoying each photograph and its story! The cap with almond milk was delish and so was the oat milk latte. Bonus both came with hearts via foam art! We got the Norwegian eggs, Benedict, salmon bowl, and French toast with berries to share. I believe the salmon bowl needed just a tad more dressing...however all was cooked to perfection and enjoyed thoroughly! I highly recommend the French Toast with fresh berries as an app or entree. Outdoor seating can be a little chilly in the Fall season so bundle up and soak up the vitamin D. Remember, the sun has a lot of healing properties and people/pet watch. I also love watching all the trendsetter's and their Williamsburg, Brooklyn flare. Cheers...to an amazing server and food! Don't miss the opportunity to check-out this spot and walk to Domino Park while there!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Cafe Colette is a little tight and we were crammed between two other tables at a slow time of day. The server was nice and attentive. I really enjoyed the salmon bowl and the burger was well received. We didn't have to wait long for anything. Drinks were very expensive for quality and size, and our drinks either didn't qualify for happy hour or it wasn't applied. $20 for a 9oz drink is a bit too much. This seems to be a good food spot, but probably not one I'd circle back to.

Rishi M.

Yelp
This is my favorite local spot in Williamsburg -- the basque cheesecake is incredible and the cheeseburger (not pictured) is 5/5

Yelp
Came here before with my friend and really enjoyed it. We came back today for his birthday and I went early to tell the employee working that it was my friends birthday and to please come out with a little chocolate cake so I can sing him happy birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise. We sat down outside and after we got our coffee we were ready to order and after about 35-40 min of waiting I went inside to ask that same server if we can order. Another person came out. She seemed to have a bit of an attitude and took our order. After we got our food and finished eating we weren't serviced again. Asked for the check and I'm expecting for my earlier request to be remembered. . . Nothing. Didn't love that. Didn't really love that I asked for something to be charged to have a nice surprise for my best friends birthday and that couldn't be accomplished. Service was slow, not a lot of people around the time we went (2:30pm) we left at 4:30 after slow service. Didn't want to continue our night there. Really let down.
google avatar

Manuel R.

Yelp
Had breakfast here this morn. Service was horrible and they greet you with an attitude... our orders came quick .... Only for the server to realized she was putting all these food in the wrong table. Ok, I get it.. servers/ cooks sometimes miscommunicate... no big deal. ordered a side dish of sausage, sent it back because it was not cooked... after 15 MINUTES, they came back with it and STILL pink and undercooked (it's pork remember?). Had a basic eggs and hash... they served the eggs COLD! Geezzz! Get it together Collete. It isn't that hard ... if the kitchen and the business was run right! Never again.

Yelp
I was looking for a bar or restaurant where I could just sit down, grab a drink, and read by myself. This was a great option for after work because it wasn't too busy, but not too empty and I didn't need a reservation. I got the spicy popcorn and the strawberry cosmopolitan which were both excellent
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
This place is cute, and the food very good. The service is exceptional, and if something isn't right, they'll make it so. We loved it!
google avatar

Skyler N.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice, but that is the only positive thing I have to say about this establishment. The food was truly poor and the mussels were inedible. I went with 5 other girls and each of us left agreeing to not come back here. I do not recommend for anything other than a cocktail.

Karen C.

Yelp
I came here for brunch on a sunday afternoon without a reservation and was surprised to be able to get a table right away. I ordered the strata expecting a sandwich of sorts and was pleasantly surprised by my plate instead. It was similar to a slice of quiche- a decadent, flavorful baked egg tart with a nice touch of a side salad (though after stealing some of my friend's fries, i almost wished i substituted for those!) Only con was the matcha. Very mid, small, and lacking flavor. Otherwise, great!
google avatar

Yelp
Took a friend from out of town here for brunch this morning. It's a cute neighborhood spot with a fairly diverse menu. We ate inside at a two person table in the corner of the restaurant. There is outdoor seating as well, but because of the weather we opted for air conditioning inside. The ambiance was chill french café vibes. Calming. Not overly noisy but not too quiet where you feel that everyone can overhear your brunch gossip. I'll break down food & service below. Overall 3/5. Food: Tried the slushie coffee but wasn't a fan as it was made with oat milk and I'm a full fat whole milk girlie. The texture was divine though and if i liked oat milk this would be a must have. On a hot muggy day, this would be delish. I got the avo toast with an over medium eggie and my friend got the quiche. She said hers was yum and ate the entire thing. My toast was decent. The bread is THICC and kind of was serving banana bread energy. Like it felt like a slice from a loaf of a cake bread. Not crunchy or toasty at all. But also not bad. I ate it. I felt full.it did some with cilantro on top. I hate cilantro. I picked it off. All was well, but know to ask for it without if you also dislike cilantro. Not my favorite avo toast in Williamsburg but decent. Should be renamed avocado lump bread not toast. I also got an iced coffee with while milk on the side. Coffee was strong and pretty good. Not my fav but truly just preference. They have reg milk so that is cause for celebration. I wish that slushie had reg milk :/ Service: Weird vibes. They took away the Cholula and salt and pepper mid meal, which just felt off. The wait staff weren't the warmest, so coupled with them clearing the condiments as we were eating it just felt like they were trying to get us out quickly. Yes it was Saturday morning, but half the restaurant was empty inside. Just an odd vibe in general. But tool our order timely. Food came out fairy quickly.

Yelp
Food is good. Service is good. Ambiance is good. Nice local Brooklyn place to eat and drink. I don't live near by but if I were to live in the neighborhood then I would frequent the place.
google avatar

Johanna R.

Yelp
We came to this French restaurant after attending a concert nearby. The food wasn't anything special, and it was quite pricey, too. It might be better for brunch on the weekend, but if you're looking for a memorable dinner experience, then this place isn't for you. I definitely wouldn't be recommending it to anyone.

Carol W.

Yelp
My pasta was so small and was supposed to have broccolini -- but was mostly stalks, the pasta was overcooked and soggy. It's unbelievable they actually served it. It looked terrible and tasted bad. They agreed to exchange it for a caesar salad -- it took so long my family was done eating. It's Father Day, we were hoping to have a nice family meal. They took one drink off the check as compensation, but really, if you're not eating with your party, they should take the entree off, or at least give you the option to cancel it. At that point, I didn't even want it. In Williamsburg there are amazing places to eat everywhere. I suggest you go somewhere else.

John V.

Yelp
I went here for brunch recently, and the food was outstanding. The eggs, hashbrowns, and even the toast were really, really good. The drinks were excellent as well. Great staff too! I'll definitely be going back soon.

Grace M.

Yelp
Caesar salad so good with chicken, unsure why rating is low for this place! Even when busy the salad came very quick. Ambiance is a vibe, there is a bar inside seating and outdoor.

Yelp
I'm disappointed to have to give Cafe Colette only 3 stars, because I think there is a lot of potential here, but after several unexceptional experiences I am simply left wanting. The atmosphere is nearly perfect -- a low-key French-ish corner cafe with an elegant but unfussy sensibility. The drinks (both the caffeinated and alcoholic offerings) and smaller plates are excellent, so I'd therefore recommend Cafe Colette, mostly, as a place for a solo snack or casual catch up. That said, I have found both lunch and dinner to be underwhelming. The sparse menu contains an unusually high number of misses, many lacking in flavor and salt, and I have yet to try an entree worth ordering twice. It also seems that this place is perpetually understaffed, resulting in spotty service that, during rush hour, can make you feel, uncomfortably, like the server is as disappointed in you for asking for something as you are for having to wait 10 minutes to get their attention. Overall, not a bad choice but really not a must-visit destination in the crowded Williamsburg cafe landscape.

Alissa D.

Yelp
A very cute neighborhood spot! This place is known for brunch but we stopped by for dinner around 6pm instead. It was pretty cold outside so nice to have somewhere to sit that wasn't too trendy and had a simple menu. The ambiance is cozy, neighborhood-y. Would probably get away with sweatpants/workout gear or jeans and sneakers which sometimes we all need a simple place! We ordered two hot toddys which hit the spot (especially with that cold!), the cauliflower and I got the famous burger, my boyfriend the steak. Both were tasty and felt like a classic item your parents would make you. The service was very memorable as well, super attentive and very kind. We felt right at home! Will be back as it wasn't too crowded for dinner and got the job done :)

Yelp
The hash brown. My god.? Used to come here when it was Oznot's Dish. The best breakfast vibes continue. Did I mention the hash brown?

Yelp
I was looking for a bar or restaurant where I would feel comfortable to just sit down, grab a drink, and read by myself. This is the excellent place for it. You don't need a reservation in the evening after work, and I did not feel weird sitting alone. I ordered the spicy popcorn, which was a perfect light snack, and the strawberry cosmopolitan. Also great.

Sydney F.

Yelp
Cute place but we got drip coffee ( which at most is $3 anywhere else) and they charged $6. Food was decent but that price just seems kinda shady.

Ann W.

Yelp
Food is Flavorless. Got the fish tacos they had no taste. My fam got the quiche and avocado toast both almost inedible. Would not recommend.

Shayna O.

Yelp
Haven't tried many things from this place but have been a few times. The burger is so good, reminds me of McDonald's, and the drinks are made with fresh ingredients.

Yelp
The interior of this place is so delightful - an old French Island vibe. I came here for brunch on Saturday with a girl friend and loved how the light poured in. I really loved how they accommodated us, seating my friend first as I was running late to our reservation. It's such a pet peeve of mine when restaurants don't seat the party as they trickle in. The food was delicious! I've had the fish tacos once before and ordered the salmon bowl. It was full of flavor and hearty which is what I needed for Saturday afternoon plant-shopping. Will definitely be back again for another intimate catch-up.
google avatar

Jeanie J.

Yelp
The food was disappointing. Came here for brunch with my friend on Tuesday at 12:30. We ordered fish tacos and the salmon bowl. My friend ended up eating halfway and leaving the rest because it was so bland. The avocado in the bowl was not fresh and they were a quarter dark. My fish tacos were very dry and flavorless.
google avatar

Swathi K.

Yelp
If you come here- you must get two things: their hash browns and their frozen coffee! Well worth the $9 for a coffee - especially after a night out! I got the fried eggs and hash and it looked so good that my friends had to order it on the side for themselves!!! The wait wasn't too long- we were able to put our names down and walk around Williamsburg, which worked out as our other friend was running late and got there right as our table was ready! Perfect for a chill brunch!

Yelp
I've had the chance to come here several times throughout the last few months and every time just keeps getting better and better! The thing I like most about this space is the vibes. they've got outdoor seating, indoor in their main dining area, and a back area that's great for groups. The menu is pretty traditional. They're known for their brunch and dinner dishes. This spot is good for both groups and dates! I'd recommend making a reservation a head of time as well! P.S. When it's busy it can seem a bit cramped. I'd go during a slower time of the day.

Food was great! The food came quickly and the ambiance was cool. Good music and chill vibes.

Yelp
Cafe Collette is one of my favorite places to get brunch in the north Brooklyn area. Everything on the menu is so good and the service is always a great experience. We had Oskar as our server and he really rolls out the red carpet treatment. This place is great for summer because of the outdoor seating and frozen cocktails but the inside is very cute and quaint. It's also right near all the shopping in Williamsburg so that's a plus 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
Awesome vibes and great food meets an easy to grab a weekend brunch table. Always recommend cafe Colette as a solid and reliable casual spot.

Yelp
Food is just ok. Service is a bit chaotic at times and they would deliver another table's order. Ambience is great - cozy and French.
