In addition to regular menu items including the vegan cheesesteak, black bean burger, mixed vegetable fajitas, and vegan crab cakes, this State Street dining spot offers tempting daily specials, such as a coconut curry cauliflower soup and vegan tuna salad sandwich." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Google
the people are very nice. however I ordered a vegan burrito and it felt sweet. it was also very dry and needs some salsa to go with it. I wanted a different side besides a salad so I got the turmeric split pea soup which I was happy with.

Google
Good service. Nice Ambiance in the basement of a Newtown office building. Menu mostly vegan but also non vegan choices. Had the energy soup, a bowl of it made a complete meal.

Google
This was my first time there and I met up w friends. The food was really delish. I had the pea soup Tumeric, Quiche of the day and salad. It was great value for your money too and service w a smile. The owner is lovely.

Google
Great selection of vegan, vegetation, and GF with a menu anyone could find something to love. Staff was so friendly, and prices were reasonable.

Google
Came here for lunch while in the area. The quesadilla was phenomenal! Server was professional, although they did seem under staffed for servers. Overall, it was good! I would definitely recommend!

Julie

Google
I had the tapioca wrap (chicken) and it was so good and healthy. Flavorful too! All made to order. Fresh squeezed orange juice was very good. Love the vibe and customer service was great! They have different specials and really great Latin foods. Chocolate truffles were so good - I ate 3!

Google
My favorite place to eat! Tonight i had the butterfly tofu w/ black beans. It was wonderful. The food is delicious and high quality and servings are generous. The soups are all delicious and healthy. I also love the chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. It’s divine!

Had some time to accompany my husband in the office and I was in the mood for something different so we we headed to Cafe con Leche for lunch. It’s pick-up or delivery only (for now) and I’m so glad we decided to do a pick-up as it allowed us to see what other menu items are available. I wanted a bit of everything! But I had the vegan stir fry with tofu, which was so fresh and delicious! And my husband had a chicken sandwhich with mozzarella and red peppers and he said the portion was just right. We have our new favorite place and I can’t wait to try their other menu items. Our meals would’ve been even better if they had some raw juices too!

Yelp
I was very excited to try this restaurant. I was in Newtown and looking for something to eat. I saw the Vegan Cheesesteak on the menu and was excited to try it. The restaurant is literally a hidden gem. It's a little tough to spot, but the vibe in the place is amazing. The guy working on my visit was super friendly and helpful. And the vegan cheesesteak was very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try the other vegan options on the menu.

Dana S.

Yelp
Cafe Con Leche is a (very) hidden gem in Newtown. This restaurant is not easy to find, but it's worth the search. The menu is expansive and has options for vegan diners. The service was great. There is nothing fancy about this place, just good food.

Harry E.

Yelp
Amazing fresh and healthy food. One of the healthiest restaurants in the area but still manage to keep it so delicious.

Andrea A.

Yelp
Our favorite vegan friendly restaurant in the area. Their food is always so fresh and delicious. The staff is very kind and welcoming. I highly recommend trying any of their soups and/or one of their delicious vegan desserts (we love the chocolate raspberry cake!). Also fyi, they will provide an amazingly seasoned olive oil dip with their complimentary bread for those who cannot eat butter - so definitely ask for it!

David B.

Yelp
Okay, so you follow the directions to a downtown area and at first you will not be able to see this cafe. We looked and looked but it wasn't u til we saw the sign for their cafe on a sign pile with other businesses that we were able to find it. You have to walk through a small sidewalk area to the back of the building and they are located on the bottom of the building. We were seated quickly and had our lunches within 10 minutes. My daughter enjoyed the chicken sandwich which they pressed as a panini for her and the sweet potato soup with jalapeño had just the right amount of heat. A lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Nice little cafe.

Susanne S.

Yelp
I love cafe con leche! They have fantastic vegan options! My kids love that! My favorite dish is the pecan chicken and the energy soup!

Megan R.

Yelp
The sweet potato soup was unbelievable! The vegan cheesesteak was soo good I even ate it hours later and was delish! The dressing on the salad I could drink it was soooo good. The food is really good here I can't wait to try more menus items.

Melissa H.

Yelp
Delicious and healthy food served here at Cafe Con Leche. I highly recommend eating here!

Shannon D.

Yelp
I have been coming here for about 3 years and it is always such a pleasure! Vegan options are in abundance at Cafe Con Leche and I am so grateful for that! Enjoy the many options that are offered at this restaurant. They have options for nonvegans and they also have desserts and coffee.

Lynda B.

Yelp
Amazing food, atmosphere (outdoor patio), and service! Sun dried penne dish with scallops and chicken is superb! Light and fresh! And black bean burger atop fresh salad is very fresh and tasty. Compliments to the chef, Daniel! Servers Amanda and Danni were delightful! Especially when they came out singing Happy Birthday with our scrumptious desserts; the berry cobbler and carrot cake! Try it, you'll really like it. Fyi, restroom is up 2 flights.

Brittany L.

Yelp
Had a wonderful experience here. My husband picked up a curbside order for me, (which went flawlessly). I had ordered the special Vegan Italian Hoagie, a cup of the Energy soup, and a cup of the Coconut Thai Risotto soup. Everything was top notch and so delicious. I was very impressed. Thank you for offering vegan options!

Nick L.

Yelp
If you're going to know one thing about my experience at Cafe con Leche, it's that I accidentally said "damn" when my burrito came out. But of course I'll tell you other things too ;) On my way to World of Falafel, which unfortunately was closed for succot (jewish new year) so I ended up yelping this place with a long history dating back to just before the 21st century, and a much changed menu from back then, I was thrilled to see a whole page with vegan options. Everything from mexican to indian to "Vegan Crabcakes" which I'll need to try. Upon suggestion of the hostess, i ended up with the vegan burrito, stuffed with spanish rice, romaine, and very well seasoned and cooked seitan. All wrapped in a blue corn flour tortilla and a side salad for $14. A little more than chipotle but also a little better than chipotle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Great place, very quaint, and empty on a Sunday at 3:15 (I guess not many people eat full meals at that time...) Lookig forward to returning some day.

Yelp
I've noticed an uptick in service here. The waiters/waitresses seem more prompt and are especially welcoming. The menu is slightly expanded, and it is well known they have a great vegan (Green Tea) section of the menu, too. They run daily specials, many of which are vegan, too, so that can be fun. Cafe con leche is frequented for their soups, which are made in house and are very tasty. I'm a fan of the sweet potato jalapeño, but who isn't? Flavors err toward the spicier end of the spectrum, which is probably owing to the chef/owner's South American roots. I sometimes ask them to go easy on the oil when grilling items, as they can be heavy handed, but otherwise, there is a great flavor profile here with a lot of fresh ingredients and creative, fairly healthy machinations. One ding is that you have to leave the premise to use the bathroom (up a series of stairs), and the decor could be updated to match the revised menu. They have giant cakes as the featured desserts, but you can go light with fruit cups, too.

Seanna N.

Yelp
Have been getting my favorite dish of penne and broccoli for many, many years... Wondering if you got a new chef? I just ordered and tastes awful with no flavor in a watery cream sauce. Disappointing.

H R.

Yelp
I almost don't want to write a review because I want this place to myself. I've been going to this restaurant for years and I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. And I can be a picky SOB so trust me you'll love it.

Duraiya K.

Yelp
This is one of the good place to eat in Newtown, PA. Very local place with great food and a good menu. I went out for lunch with my girlfriends. It is a small cozy place underneath a old building just off the main street. We ordered veggie taco bowl, quince sandwich and Daniel's Chicken Quesadillas. Every thing was cooked perfectly. Reasonably priced too. Definitely visiting again.

Karolyn R.

Yelp
I have eaten here since 2005, but really increased my frequency in the last few months, and it's been delicious every time. If you're nervous about a vegan restaurant, don't be. They have vegan options but also lots of real meat options. Among my faves are the vegan crab cake sandwich (doesn't taste like crab cakes to me, but I think of it as a variation on a veggie burger). Mussels & linguine is also very tasty in marinara sauce. Sides are always salad or veggies - they don't default to fries or chips, which I love because it's so much healthier.

Nicole B.

Yelp
The first time we went to this restaurant it was the middle of the week. They have some amazing specials then and not too many people. The second time we went it was a weekend and there were no specials and very very slow service. This doesn't change the fact that we all loved our dishes both times and our servers were friendly (if slow). This is the kind of place you want to go if you're not in a hurry and want to enjoy a long dinner with friends or family.

Gerald S.

Yelp
It seems that Café con Leche has been in Newtown forever. It is a place I used to go to with some frequency, but over the years it fell off my radar as a "go to" place for good Latin/Italian styled cuisine. When a friend recommended it for lunch I jumped at the chance to revisit an old friend. Daniel Lucci is the owner/chef in this walkout basement of a restaurant on the Newtown Creek side of State Street. It is best approached from the parking lot next to Isaac Newtown's, where it must compete for parking. It is accurate to describe the dining area as small and dark, but for some that adds to the ambiance and charm. The menu seemed smaller than I remembered it, but it still had Mexican, Italian, and Continental flourishes. Lunch was from the Sandwiches Menu. All are prepared on French Bread with a side salad. The bread is fresh with a moderately crunchy crusty ingratiating bite, and my accompanying salad was potato with celery and a mayo-mustard creamy connector. The Yellow Fin Tuna Salad was good, layered with lettuce and tomato slices. It was satisfying and filling. The Cajun Salmon was nicely blackened with a Pesto Mayo dressing and side garden salad with Daniel's special Balsamic Vinegrette, he calls, "Balsamico." I tasted this and thought it was better than the tuna. I could not escape the thought that perhaps, Café con Leche had remained too long in the same space, and thus cramped its growth in both tables and adventurous gourmet meals. A little more sunshine might open this accomplished chef to brand new and exciting possibilities. In some way it seemed that the rest of the local restaurant world had caught up to CCL, and even passed it by.

Yelp
I'm very enthusiastic about my lunch today. It was my first time at Cafe Con Leche. My vegetarian friend suggested we go, and since I seem to enjoy vegetarian food more & more I was eager to go. The place is rather hidden if you park on the Isaac Newton side, but it just requires a few stairs to reach it. The front room is nice with high stool seats so I chose the darker back room with regular tables. Service was excellent & so was the food. I had a delicious sandwich with a black bean burger, portobello mushrooms & smoked mozzarella & a cup of wonderful sweet potato jalapeño soup. The sandwich was awesome with a fresh side salad. My friend had the same burger served as a patty on a large garden salad. I'll be back, because everything was fresh & delicious with a menu for every food need including vegan, carnivore & gluten free. Definitely a winner!

Susan C.

Yelp
Great vegan menu. Love the soups!

Danielle D.

Yelp
If you are a vegan and you are in the area you NEED to go here! This has the best vegan meals that are really cheap! Really nice serving size and the vegan dessert was amazing! Everything tasted so good I had to double check it was actually vegan. Server was really sweet and there were so many options. Cozy vibe

Mollie-Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Husband and I came in FAMISHED!!! The quiche was to die for and hubby's quesadillas were drool worthy. We'll absolutely be back soon! Wish they made breakfast because I bet it would be fantastic.

Ed R.

Yelp
This is the 5th time I have eaten at this restaurant. The first good thing is that it's BYOB. It has been outstanding every time no matter what we order. This time we ordered the Energy Soup and Sweet Potato Jalapeno Soup. I don't usually eat healthy nor do I eat sweet potatoes but both of these soups were very good. My wife got the Cheikan Marsala and said it was very fresh and very good. I got the Penne Daniel. It was also very tasty. I read another previous review and the reviewer said they used canned vegetables. That's so wrong. Everything is very fresh and not canned. The whole time we there this time we heard the chef in kitchen chopping vegetables. We will definitely continue to come back.

Elaine M.

Yelp
So it's not their fault that on a recent visit many people can't seem to modulate their voices. There's not much space to move to in the front room so we moved to the back room There, we were "hit" with a peculiar decor. The harsh orange cement walls were not very inviting and the dated plastic floral table clothes did nothing to add to the scenery. I think the floors were linoleum. Very dated and tired "ambiance". I hadn't eaten a cream sauce in years so I decided to splurge and ordered the pasta with broccoli. It was a very bland flavor. The mild cheese sauce did not impress me. I wished for something more flavorful. I should have stuck with my old stand by, the berry cobbler, for desert, but opted for the chocolate layer cake made with filo dough (in between the layers). It was as dry as a bone. Terrible! My birthday experience there was extremely disappointing for me and a friend who was equally displeased. I did get their vegan tuna fish to go and enjoyed it very much.

Alessandra M.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this quaint and cozy restaurant. This place is very small and casual, which I liked. I've been meaning to come here for quite some time but I wasn't sure if my fiancé would like it but boy was I wrong. We both loved it! Our server was very helpful for our first time there and gave us a rundown of entrees we had questions about. But the best part was the food!!! I got the cod topped with a guacamole mix with a carrot purée and wow! It was so fresh and bursting with flavor. My fiancé got the carnitas and was blown away as well. I only wish I had room for dessert. I will definitely be back. Everyone's food around us looked spectacular!

Thomas L.

Yelp
Nice little spot away form busy streets and people. Had a great vegan bean and rice with vegetables wrapped in a black corn soft wrap. Very nice. Side whole food and vegetable salad was perfect size and tasty.

Meghean D.

Yelp
We went to dinner the other night and were blown away! We loved all of the vegan options; it's nice that their menu split up the food items between vegan and non-vegan. Service was wonderful and the food was amazing. We will be back!

Beverly C.

Yelp
This was a tasty bite. My meal started with a sweet potato/jalapeño soup, followed by orange duck, and finished with an Argentinian Chocolate Cake accompanied with a Café con Leche. This dinner stop did lived up to its reviews. The restaurant is a cute quaint establishment. Their menu has numerous traditional choices, vegetarian dishes, and gluten free options. The soup was hearty, the entree was well executed, to include the potato mash and grilled vegetables. This chocolate cake slice was massive and pretty unique. It had layered puff pasty and dulce de leche. I'm kind of picky with my coffee and this café con leche was spot on. So sad I'm in town for only a few days, I would love to go back and try other item from their menu. Good Job Café con Leche!

Jean H.

Yelp
Visiting from Southern California I had lunch here and I must say the food and service was AMAZING!! Being vegan it is sometimes challenging to find restaurant food that is super healthy and super tasty and Cafe Con Leche surprisingly exceeded my expectations and fulfilled my desire for flavorful epicurean delights.

Lena N.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out for the first time. The food was below mediocre and didn't seem fresh. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Wouldn't come back.

Jammie J.

Yelp
Great food! And very romantic little spot. The only thing is the location is small. But workable.

Dana B.

Yelp
Cafe con leche is a hidden gem in the heart of Newtown borough. It is very laid back with food fit for fine dining. BYOB! The fish- especially the salmon is always delicious. The best part about the menu is the vegetarian and vegan options!! They are absolutely delicious and extensive. Love this place.

Ibett B.

Yelp
Had been trying to come here and today I finally did. Super satisfied. Cute restaurant. Friendly service and the quality of food is outstanding!! Tried their chicken mole burrito and almond cafe con leche. Everything was delicious.

Bj B.

Yelp
Café Con Leche has so much untapped potential that I was sad eating dinner there tonight. The waitstaff was pleasant and without complaint. The food was just ok - we both had chicken fajitas. Nothing special, could have been seasoned better and honesty, I'm having a hard time saying anything more about those fajitas. However, I sat looking around at the tired, worn looking restaurant and couldn't help but think that with a good cleaning, a few gallons of fresh paint, cloth table linens, (the plastic floral print table cloths just don't do the cafe any favors), replace ALL the oddly hung, random pictures on the walls, and the owners could really breathe some life into this cute place. I sat there and redecorated it in my mind. The bottom of the staircase that leads to the restroom looks like a horror movie. It would not take too much and it would really revitalize this Café.

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
I'm happy this place is still around! It's been in the borough of Newtown for years and I hadn't been back for a visit in at least 5-10 if I had to estimate. But over the last year, I have now been back twice and both times the meal was very nice The menu is a mix of American/Mexican/Vegan/Misc.. The portions are big, the specials change often, with healthy soup options and other choices, so it keeps it fresh. In the two times I have come in, I've tried two different soups which were hearty and flavorful and had an entree once as a meal and an appetizer as well. Different ends of the spectrum (fish once, quesadilla the other) but both tasted fresh and had nice sides offered with them. Don't expect to be wow'd by the decor, but that's not what this place is going for, they prefer a simply BYO with comforting food and a cozy place to enjoy it.

Sherri S.

Yelp
I was having a great day, beautiful fall day too. Ordered take out from this restaurant for a few of us. I am a local resident but hadn't been to this place in years. I didn't realize there were only two gals running the restaurant at a fairly busy lunch hour. I really did not know the lay of the land. So when the one gal said to me...with nasty attitude..."there are only two of us here" I wanted to respond and say..."sorry but that is not my problem...I too have stresses at work...with much bigger fish to fry". A better way to talk to your customer is to "kindly" explain we are busier than normal and we are short handed. Guess what...no more lunches for me...this may not lighten the lunch load but I absolutely prefer when someone appreciates my business. This gal's lousy attitude stayed with me all day. My lunch was okay...nothing special actually...and I am certainly not anxious to go back.

Antonino T.

Yelp
The the energy soup was amazing however I was not bouncing off the walls. I would eat gallons of it. The salad with pear is very good and the cod entree is very good as well. Its a byob so look at the menu before you pick a wine/ beer to bring.

Sapan S.

Yelp
The services was great! Very friendly and knowledgable about everything. She came around a few times to make sure that we were taken care of. The food was delicious and the ingredients you can tell were very fresh. I was especially fond of the Vegan Hawaiian Panini. This was my first time here and I will be definitely be back when I come back to visit the area.

Don H.

Yelp
Simply great. It is a hidden little treasure, small, but with wonderful food. I think that the chef is originally from Argentina, but could be wrong. Entrees and desserts are solid.

Julia S.

Yelp
Really yummy vegan options and really great service. I was in love with the food I got here. Will go back soon!!!!!!

Gina D.

Yelp
Delicious burrito and quesadillas. Interesting menu lots of vegan choices if you're into that. Really intriguing menu. Online ordering makes is convenient.

Gerianna H.

Yelp
Everything here is really good. It's easy to look over but I highly recommend coming here if you're in new town

Ed M.

Yelp
Everything i have tried here has been excellent . They also have a nice selection of vegan options. Try the black bean burger amd soup for lunch. Dont forget the coffee and dessert.

Dana G.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Newtown. Fresh, delicious, healthy food. Good service and cute atmosphere. Love that it's a byob. Energy soup is one of the best soups I have ever tasted.

Adam L.

Yelp
This place is a cute little restaurant that has been around for almost 20 years. It's sort of hidden though, Cafe Con Leche is in the basement of the blue building near Isaac Newtons. They share the same parking lot too. It is small, but the place is worth it. They have a section right by the front door with high tables, and your standard tables in the back. The food is really good, especially for any vegetarians and vegans out there. The different seitan entrees are all pretty remarkable (I think they call it cheitan there because of someone named Charlie... but don't quote me). I am not a vegan, but I think I like that part of the menu better than the regular portion. All in all, Cafe Con Leche is a nice little spot in Newtown if you are looking for something a bit different.

Kisha B.

Yelp
I am the happiest person ever. Coming across this hidden gem was the best thing ever! I found this place a few months ago and finally made my way there yesterday. OMG!!! Here's this quaint little restaurant that I comfortably have dinner with my husband and the in laws. We all have special diets and CCL meets all of needs. And if you are wondering, yes the prices are very reasonable. You must try this place

Michele C.

Yelp
Went here for the first time. Cute little place! I had the vegan cheesesteak. I never had seitan before, it was delicious! I looked, felt, and tasted just like chicken! Also had the gingerbread chai latte and the cherry coconut cake. Loved it all! I will def be back!

Nigel N.

Yelp
Really unique place. While the menu could be a bit larger with more selection, the food I've had the three times I went there has been terrific.

Mark M.

Yelp
Great menu and awesome fresh food! The vegan options are plenty and the daily specials menu has several vegan offerings. I had the mole vegan burrito and it was an absolute mouth orgasm! Sandi had the stir fry with Blackened Seitan and linguine and Sis had Penne and Broccoli. Rave reviews from all. Will definitely hit here every time I visit my Sister!
