In Tbilisi, Georgia, Food Is a Language of Resistance | Condé Nast Traveler

"In a sleek new spot in the city center that locals tout as the current favorite for khinkali, waiters in leather-like aprons brought me steaming plates: beef dumplings that tasted like a meaty herbal bath of coriander and parsley, and a potato-and-cheese version that veered into sweet-and-savory dessert territory with a heavy butter sauce. I like to flip each khinkali by its doughy knob, grind black pepper over the flat bottom, and eat with my hands; juice runs down my fingers, a sensuous snack best managed by keeping the dumpling close to my mouth to catch the steady drip." - Gary Shteyngart

Cafe Daphna was one of the coziest and most pleasant restaurants in Tbilisi, in my opinion. At first, we had to wait a bit since it was quite crowded, but it was worth it. We ordered a khachapuri, meat khinkali, and potato khinkali. The khachapuri was absolutely amazing — super tasty with perfectly baked dough. The meat khinkali was also great; the meat was fresh and had some herbs inside that made it really unique. But the potato khinkali wasn’t good at all — we didn’t like it. The staff were friendly, and the interior decor was beautiful. Overall, if I come back to Tbilisi, I’ll definitely choose this place again! 🌿

The khachapuri was quite tasty, but unfortunately, I didn't like the khinkali. When we ordered the khinkali, they were quite rudely told it would take an hour, but they served it in 25 minutes. The place is simple, and the ambiance isn't bad. Some of the waiters were rude, but the tall gentleman, who I think was the manager or chef, was quite polite. I don't think I'll be back. The local beers were delicious. If you go, definitely try just “local beers”

Often has a long queue and the khinkali can take about 30 minutes to arrive, but the staff are very friendly and helpful. The khinkali aren’t bad, tasty and satisfying. A good spot if you don’t mind waiting a bit for your meal.

khinkali and lazuri khachapuri were heavenly!! Would recommend if you want to try out tasty Georgian dishes. Our waitress Lizi was very kind and gave us great wine recommendations. Would definitely come here again next time we’re in Tbilisi.

Hard to find really great places at the center of Tbilisi with it being so touristic but this place was a great find! Best khinkali we had for sure, nice refreshing salads, great pastries. The place was nicely designed with great atmosphere and the staff were super friendly. I highly recommend it if you want a benchmark for amazing khinkali!

I saw this restaurant in a documentary and also the reviews in general and I must say that it was ok, not what the people described. Great ambient and location but the food was not amazing, it was good yes but not blowing my mind and the prices are high for Georgia. The salad was almost empty, just a few peces of cheese and beetroot… all green color. Good idea of dessert with the pumpkin.

We've had the Khinkali dumplings, and it's very delicious. It was one of the tastiest we've had in the city. The tomato and cucumber salad was also really delicious, but it was really big for two people. Because we visited at 11am when it just opened and it was raining, there was no queue at all. However, if we've had to queue up for a long time for this, it might not have been worth it.

Went to Cafe Daphna after seeing it on social media. It has a reputation of serving the best khinkali in Tbilisi from what I could the tell. The cafe is cozy and nice to sit it. The coffee was good, but the dumplings seemed average to me. They were certainly good, but nothing to be hyped over. A good place to visit for a quick bite to eat if you are in the neighborhood.
