Loved the atmosphere of this place! I didn't know what to expect of a zydeco dance hall/restaurant, but I was thoroughly delighted. As a vegan, I didn't try to have a meal here (seems it would have been a waste of table space), but my $5 entry fee sure did provide plenty of great music and spectacle. The dance floor takes up at least half of the building, with the musicians performing right at the front. It's easy to hear the music from outside if you don't want to pay the entry fee (and it is quite loud inside), but you won't be able to easily see the dancers, and that would be a great shame. One of the most memorable stops in my trip through Louisiana (including a few days in New Orleans!).

We expected to have music and when we showed up at noon on Saturday there was not any music. Though it is on a festive little strip with wonderful antique shops we found ourselves walking around wishing we would have eaten somewhere else. We had the funnel cakes that have the meat in them and they were actually really good but we also got regular ones too and didn't need too. The ones with the meat have tons of extra breading. The "kid's" chicken gumbo was an adult portion and it if you like gumbo it was wonderful. If that's what your after it would be a great place to go get the kids gumbo and have a cheap great bowl of gumbo, but if you are after an experience this is not the place.

My wife and I go here when we visit her family in Lafayette. The appetizers are amazing we don't even get to the main course anymore. We order the fried eggplant and craw-fish corn bread, catfish bites and the crab cakes. All are fantastic! It a very casual place where people come to talk and have great food. Not the uptight 5 star restaurant experience but a fun place to go have some good Cajun food.

Pretty good food, but horrible service. They forgot one salad, one entree, and 2 drinks for the table. Server spilled my drink, and for refills she took the cups back to the kitchen -- not just extremely inefficient, but disgusting, because she gave the wrong cups back. (Please bring pitchers to the table next time, so much cleaner and more efficient!) The server was impatient and rude. My brother-in-law received rancid salad dressing but he did not complain. Restaurant was nearly empty, not busy at all, so this is hard to understand.

Good local food. Lots of it. In a nice, large, bit chilly space. Service started slowly but was friendly. Excellent Cajun food, luckily hardly any French stuff at all (OK, the burger buns are croissants...).

Don and I had the very best experience at this historic cafe! We wanted to get a true cajun taste before we left Louisiana . We ordered soup, appetizers and dessert. What a full meal! We had shrimp and okra gumbo and chicken and sausage gumbo for our soups. For appetizers we had eggplant wheels topped with crawfish étouffée half and half and crawfish alligator sausage cheesecake ! So filling! The loaf of french bread was wonderful! For dessert we had white chocolate bread pudding! Fantastic! I can truly say this was a most pleasant experience! You will not be disappointed with the atmosphere, food, service or price! Our waiter was exceptional!

I'm not one to complain, but this place has left me with a very bad memory. My mate has since passed away. Knowing my mate didn't have long to live, we decided to try something new. We were told about this place from a friend. It was January of 2015...Downright rude waitress...finally got our crawfish pies. They were extremely salty. And I, and my mate, like salt. The waitress didn't acknowledge us when she brought us our drinks. She just placed them on our table and walked away to talk to someone she saw. After she walked off, I remember my mate telling me in a humorous way, "Yes, we're doing fine." This waitress brought bread to us, pushing the bread against my wet glass, and again rushed off. No eye contact, no nothing. I so wanted this to be another special memory for me to have knowing my mate wouldn't be here very much longer. Needless to say, this was our first time there, and it is my last...My mate died in July of 2015...

Worst waitress ever! we had to leave after 45 minutes of not getting any service or food from our very unhelpful & super rude waitress. 2 other tables came In after we did both of whom got their food. When we asked The hostess checked on our order & said it wasn't even put in yet. Rather than offer an apology or explanation the waitress came over & gave us hell. The very nice hostess tried desperately to help but the waitress was flat out mean to us customers & her co-workers. Even after years of having worked in bars & restaurants I have never seen such appalling behavior from a server.
