"Europe is home to a wide variety of decadent and everyday mushrooms, but to get a taste of the entire European fungi spectrum, head to Café des Spores. This decidedly cool, but surprisingly affordable bistro nestled in the trendy Saint Gilles neighbourhood serves mushrooms in every single dish — including dessert. While the menu changes seasonally, expect everything from porcini and cheese croquettes to mussels with Jerusalem artichokes and black chanterelles." - Travel + Leisure Editors

A culinary highlight! We had the pleasure of dining here, and it was simply fantastic! Every dish was prepared with great care, but the absolute highlight was the cheesecake- incredibly creamy, perfect balanced in sweetness and simply a delight. The service was also friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back!

Small cute restaurant with amazing food. My friend invited me to this place, and every dish was a delightful surprise. I had no expectations and with left impressed by the quality of the food, presentation, and service. I would definitely be coming back.

My visit was truly delightful. Each dish, with its artful focus on mushrooms, showcased exceptional flavors and creativity. The service was impeccable, combining attentiveness with efficiency. A must-visit for those who appreciate culinary finesse and the exquisite versatility of mushrooms.

We loved the atmosphere and the staff was so friendly! We felt super welcome and seen all the time, the two guys really know hospitality. The food was nice, we'd have loved a little more mushroom elements maybe (different textures to discover, ways of preparing them for example) and some dishes were really salty. We like salty, but it may not be for everyone. We'd still come back though, for a new menu to try!

I'm a huge mushroom fan, so I was really looking forward to trying this place! While the mushrooms themselves were fresh and flavorful, I was hoping for more creativity in how they were integrated into the dishes. I imagined dishes where mushrooms were fully infused or thoughtfully incorporated, like the cep cheesecake or other unexpected combinations that showcase their unique taste and texture. Instead, most of the mushrooms were simply fried and served on the side. Overall, it’s a nice spot, especially if you love mushrooms, but for those looking for an adventurous, mushroom-focused experience, it might leave you wanting a bit more in terms of imaginative culinary use.

Google
Nice little mushroom restaurant. The food is cooked and presented beautifully and the staff are very friendly. Portions are not big, so do not go feeling extremely hungry, I would say this is a lovely delicious light meal. Prices are correct for what you get. Recommend if you love mushrooms and seasonal foods.

Amazing place with a great atmosphere and great food. We tried everything that was on the menu and really enjoyed our night. The food was delicious—and that's coming from someone who is usually not a fan of mushrooms. Quality and presentation were top notch. The wine that accompanied our meal—a 2017 Côtes-du-Rhône from Domaine Richaud—was a perfect match. To top it all off, the staff was lovely as well; they all seemed to really love their job. I definitely recommend this place.

If you're a fan of mushrooms, do yourself a favor and book a table here ASAP. 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts. We were 3 people, so we just tried everything. The kitchen is right there next to the front door, you could see the chefs work with surgical precision and rigorous cleanliness. Our waitress was great too. Our favorite entree was the duxelle with the cheese croquette, simply amazing. The pork belly with eryngiis mushrooms was also a home run. All of the desserts were fabulous. Simple wine list, but our easy drinking red was a great match. It's places like this that gives Brussels it's cred as a foodie destination.

Yelp
What a surprise! I had a friend in town visiting for the week, and before he came, he an admitted lover of mushrooms, spotted this spot on Google. I'd had it saved before on one of my restaurant wishlist so we were all for going. What a treat. Every dish consists of mushrooms, of course, that's their thing. It was pretty easy to make a reservation. We were seated right by the window. It was lovely. To begin with, their porcini butter? Wanted to eat my weight in it! The wife and I ordered and shared our way though the menu. We started off with the Shiitakés et boulettes. A delicious combination of small meatballs with caramelized onions and shiitake mushrooms. The sauce? To die for. We then each got a main dish, which we both are half of and shared. We had the salmon, marinated in white miso; and the pork belly with portobello. The pork belly was the better of the two dishes, but my god, were they delicious. Lastly, their dessert. Cheesecake with dried porcini mushrooms? Might not sound like it, but it was spectacular! I think the menu changes frequently, so you may not get the same fare, but c'mon, if you like good food, and of course mushrooms. Café des Spores.

Yelp
The ambiance was great and the wine was lovely, service was pleasant! The 2 stars are due to the length of time it took for each coarse. It was one hour between each course. In addition each dish for the most part was cold! Disappointing to say the least as the restaurant was recommended by a local. local.

Yelp
Being a huge fan of mushrooms i've to say that i was thrilled to go there . we planned to go there since august with a friend of mine and finally managed to go beginning of january . they offer you a menu where you can choose main dish with starter or dessert or both or with cheese plate or all together for a-OK price man, and all with mushrooms! what a bliss!! 0_o !!! cute cooks and friendly staff. what else? the dishes are really exquisite and yummy. perfectly prepared decorated and nurtured with love. they even have made a cheesecake out of mushrooms, and i've to say quite delicious i loved the place (deco, food, people etc) but the dishes are quite gastronomic . don't be too hungry coz won't feed you.

Yelp
Cafe des Spores is a very special, mushroom-themed restaurant. Unpretentious, friendly and only 35 Euros for a unique and delicious four course meal. The waiters are kind and attentive but also very busy and actually jog to deliver dishes and drinks so at times it can be hard to catch one. There is a lot of time between each course so this is not a place to eat if you are in a rush or are starving. Each course should be savored and contemplated while awaiting the next. Also, Cafe des Spores is one block away from the Albert metro stop, so it's easy to get to. My detailed experience: I recently became a vegetarian and since Brussels has very few vegetarian friendly places let alone interesting ones, after some internet research, Cafe des Spores was the only restaurant I was really excited about visiting. Please note, they do also serve meat and fish. I was in town on a short business trip and left a message late Friday night to see if I could have a reservation the next night for one person. My phone ran out of batteries on Saturday and finally when I called again at 6pm the man who answered said he had been trying to reach me and knew my name. He said they were completely booked but since I was alone they would let me eat upstairs at a table normally meant only for drinking. I was so excited but still nervous it would somehow fall through. When I arrived the waiters were so nice and addressed me by my name since they knew the situation. I think it always reflects well on a restaurant when they choose to and are able to hire extremely kind waiters and that is the case here. There had actually just been a cancellation and I ended up getting to eat at a small table in the back of the real restaurant. The Cafe des Spores menu specifies that if you are vegetarian or have allergies to please let them know and they will make accommodations. I love that because often restaurants instead have a note that says "no substitutions!". I told them I wanted all four courses and to bring whatever was vegetarian. On to the food. The complimentary bread basket had a darker bread that must have been delicious since before I realized it I had finished it and a perfect baguette- soft in the middle, hard on the outside. The appetizer was a tiny piece of flatbread with ricotta cheese with either scallions or chives and pickled gray tricholome mushrooms. A tiny portion but rich. The next course was a big piece of burrata, portobello mushroom, pickled onions and arugula. My main course was possibly the best gnocchi I have ever had- in a garlic sauce with mushrooms. After that, the cheese was pecorino with truffle and two prunes on the side that still had their pits, as in they were very fresh and better than most prunes. For dessert I had a bizarre cup of pineapple, lemon and "white fungus". It was sort of in a liquid that had a surprising pop, I think it was carbonated. I loved each course. Every portion was small but rich and I had to stop myself from finishing the pecorino so I could have room for dessert. With two glasses of wine my bill came to 53 Euros and I spent a total of two hours there. If I ever go back to Brussels I really look forward to returning to Cafe des Spores.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, good and interesting food, decent service and a bit overpriced, but the cep cheesecake is amazing !! I'd say it's a really interesting experience especially the deserts, but I don't think this restaurant will become a regular place for me to go.

Yelp
If you love mushrooms, this is the place for you. Very creative dishes, elegantly presented... but most importantly, extremely tasty. Setting is cosy but remains intimate, tables are nicely spaced out. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. If it's free, ask to be seated upstairs with a view of the open kitchen to watch the chefs work their magic. One downside is the restaurant doesn't offer house wine v and drinks are quite expensive... even the beers. Otherwise a wonderful experience.

Yelp
I am writing a review for this place to help other travelers find this - as it was a great experience! We had a rough time finding amazing food in Brussels away from the tourist spots and stumbled upon this cozy neighborhood restaurant during a rainstorm. It only had one chef and one waitress and it was filled with mainly locals - which is always a good sign for me. The menu is as soon as you come in on a blackboard - you can order a la carte or do the chef's recommendations. We opted for chef's recommendations and a bottle of wine. Both were excellent choices. You would think that a menu of mushroom inspired dishes would get old and tired fast but not so much. He made a mushroom and duck fois gras that turned my better half around on a dish he usually despises and the simplest of stuffed mushrooms had so much complexity of flavor that it was a definite star of our meal. You really can't go wrong here...just expect to be there at least 2 hours and that was no problem with a great bottle of wine. The value was amazing as we spent just as much at other places around town whose fare wasn't so great. Recommended for couples and girlfriend dinners.

Yelp
Nice bistronomy gem themed around mushrooms. Very pleasant atmosphere, good service, nice wine suggestions and surprisingly tasteful and balanced menu.

Yelp
Just had a great dinner (again). Creative use of mushrooms and great favors. Good wine list and not crazily priced. My guest was a vegetarian and found plenty of good choices on the menu. Service is attentive but at times a bit slow to realize where you are in your meal. Great to watch the cook in open kitchen. Never tried the buvette but understand that is even better. If early have a beer at moeder around the corner!

Yelp
Ate there with my wife, son and his fiancée on our last evening Brussels. It is a small but very clean and smartly decorated with comfortable seating. As anticipated the menu was written on a chalkboard behind the cooking station which is in full view of most of the tables on the main level. We chose a window seat so we could watch the passers by as well. The wonderful and friendly server spoke broken English but enough to help us choose the Tapas selection at 30 euros per. We were not disappointed and with a bottle of Pinot Noir all the mushroom infused dishes just continued to amaze and satisfy. The 7 course followed and highlights for me where the Creme brulle, the beef cheeks and the chicken with morels. After two and a half hours we all left knowing we had experienced a very special meal and a completely unique experience. This is a must do in Brussels so please take the time to visit this wonderful establishment. Never knew that mushrooms could be used so many ways with such wonderful results!
