29 Iconic French Quarter Dining Experiences

"Though it’s one of the most well-known locales on this list, the powdered sugar-dusted wares found at this Decatur Street classic sets Café du Monde apart from most tourist traps. Take a seat at one of the many formica tables or step up to the to-go window for a bag of pillowy beignets and a cup of chicory coffee — both of which are served in the establishment’s outdoor facade." - Eater Staff

Let me start by saying you should definitely visit this place in New Orleans. I have visited three times and came to Cafe Du Monde every time. That said, this is a tourist trap. The beignets are very good but probably not the best (I don’t know I’ve never had other ones) and the chicory coffee is weird. Expect to wait and expect it be crowded With that said. It’s a must see area of New Orleans. Jackson Square is gorgeous. You have to visit this area anyway so you might as well grab these!

The line up goes by fairly quickly as they have a lot of tables within the expanded terrace. It's very crowded. Don't expect a romantic arrangement. The coffee for me was great and I enjoyed the beignets. A definite visit if you have time!

Iconic and lived up to expectations. Beignets were great and very good service. Prices were reasonable and just note that it is cash only. I even stopped at their store at the airport on the way home and the exact same experience and even cost.

It was underwhelming compared to my expectations. I went to try the beignets, a signature New Orleans dessert, but they tasted too much like flour. The coffee was also mediocre—not something I’d crave again. It’s worth trying once for the experience, though. The restroom was inconvenient to use, and the lines were long. The café was incredibly busy, creating a chaotic atmosphere. Thankfully, I found a seat quickly, but the next day I saw an even longer line, so I guess I was lucky.

A must visit every time we are in the Quarters. Classic beignets with amazing coffee and hot chocolate. The cash only policy is a bit of a hassle but other than that it’s a great stop during our visit.

Visiting Café du Monde was definitely an experience. The beignet was warm and tasty, and the lively atmosphere, complete with a sidewalk performer singing entertaining cover songs, added a nice touch. However, the service felt very rushed—more of a “get in, get out” vibe. There was no greeting, and the person taking orders seemed less than thrilled to be there, even though the day had just begun. For a first-timer, it felt more like being herded through feeding time than enjoying a classic New Orleans tradition. Next time, I’d probably try Café Beignet on Royal or Bourbon Street for a more welcoming experience.

Café du Monde is a 9-5 café known for its freshly made New Orleans beignets. These beignets, fried to perfection and dusted with a generous layer of powdered sugar, are always a winning choice. While the coffee is decent, it doesn't stand out as exceptional. One of the café's great features is its incredibly fast table service, even when the line appears long. Additionally, it's one of the few cafés in the area that offers restroom facilities, which is a convenient perk.

First of all, this rating is for Café Du Monde Mail Order Store and NOT the restaurant across the street. This store sells beignet mix, coffee products, memorabilia and not food. The atmosphere is lively and fun. I went to buy some items for an out of State friend having a New Orleans party. I was never greeted nor even acknowledged the whole time I was there, despite two employees at the counter and two what looked like managers upstairs and a third wandering around. I left buying nothing, good thing they did not waste time with me 😂
