Yelp
Cafe Fili is a delightful place to grab brunch and chill or study. I wish I knew about this place earlier. They have a selection of pastries and baked goods, but also more substantial meals. When I went, it was still breakfast, which runs til 11 am. I got the Smoked Salmon on a crostini and the Pistachio Olive Oil cupcake, along with the Afghani Chai.
The smoked salmon on a crostini was deconstructed. They give you two slices of bread, which are slightly toasted, 4 pieces of smoked salmon, some capers, chopped tomatoes, red onions, 1 quatered-hardboiled eggs, and lebneh (Middle eastern yogurt). Everything together was a perfect harmony, from the saltiness and acidity of the capers and lebneh to the creaminess of the egg and lox. Everything tasted so fresh too!
The Pistachio Olive Oil cupcake was also great. It was moist and light, however, I wish there was pieces of pistachio in the cupcake itself.
I did not enjoy the Afghani Chai as much as I thought I would. As a big tea drinker, the Afghani Chai was served black with a teabag and no sugar. I put a bit of half & half and honey and agave, yet it lacked in creaminess. I think part of the issue was the use of a tea bag rather then boiling the water in the spices itself.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed Cafe Fili. The service was great and the place was clean. I defintely would come back to try more of their menu items again.
