Owner of Café Olé - Eater DC

"Café Fili, a popular restaurant situated in Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon neighborhood, is bringing a Mediterranean menu full of nicoise salads, Moroccan chicken paninis, and meze to the Union Station neighborhood this fall. The restaurant prioritizes good service, represents cuisine from all over the Mediterranean, and uses fresh ingredients. The 2,200 square-foot Café Fili in D.C. will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with several Café Olé favorites once it opens." - Lenore Adkins

Excellent. Top notch food and service. It’s well priced and can serve as either fast food or sit down. Their breakfast options are so tasty.

Google
Picked up take out from this cafe of - lentil soup / pita crisp and chicken wraps that came with a side salad. Really the enjoyed the food, the ambiance is lovely and spacious and the staff very friendly!

Google
Totally endorse Cafe Fili's Tandoor Chicken Shawarma! And teh whole thing they have going on there. When you eat at Cafe Fili, you just feel like you're doing something right--so many tasty, healthy choices! Now, there's a "cafe" in the name, so it has cafeteria-style seating, so don't expect a garçon, folded towel draping his (90-degree angle) arm. Do expect grateful taste buds and a guilt-free aftertaste!

Loved this place. One of the highlights of our trip to Baltimore. The beef short rib Panini was exquisite. Amazing coffee. Delicious salads. Need more Halal breakfast spots such as these.

Google
Fantastic fresh, well priced and relaxed joint to grab healthy Mediterranean dishes. No surprises on the menu and that is a good thing. They execute on well made, healthy options, big portions and a great welcoming attitude.

Great food! My chicken soup and hummus were both fantastic. Nice service and a good vibe. Perfect place for foodies.

Google
I had the sweet potato hummus and it was absolutely delicious! the fresh pressed juice was very flavorful also. I would like to commend the staff on their customer service, promptness, and maintaining the cleanliness as people came and went. this is a great place to sit and get some work done. plenty of seating and outlets are conveniently located at each seat of the bar.

The food was great with large portions and the service was very quick. The atmosphere provided a space to speak and work.

Yelp
This is a cute little spot. Its actually perfect for lunch or dinner. They have a nice menu of Mediterranean options. The chicken shawarma bowl was a highlight for me and their roasted potatoes were excellent. You order at the front register and your food will be brought to you at your table. I think it gets quite crowded later in the day, but in the evening there were just a few people sitting inside the small dining space. It's more expensive than your typical cafe. Food for 2 people was a little over $50. Also parking can be sort of a pain in the area, so be mindful.

Yelp
Cafe Fili was a hidden gem, great place to stop by for a a quick sandwich or a lamb shawarma, Leave some room for the amazing baklava assortments, I was impressed how fresh the baklava was, highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Great portion sizes but definitely overpriced imo. We got take out so I can't say how the service or ambiance of the place. The food was pretty unique in the types of things they put in the bowl, but the taste was pretty average. Felt a little too oily to me personally

Yelp
I used to really like this place, but I went recently when they were very busy and I felt the quality was a little worse than usual especially given the price! I got a falafel wrap, egg scramble, and French toast. They messed up one of our orders, but very quickly rectified it which was very nice! Overall, I thought the food was solid but nothing special! I think their drinks are very good and they have a great juice selection which I have had before!
google avatar

Yelp
It was crowded, but I was able to grab a spot at the bar, ordered a panini breakfast sandwich and a fatoush salad for later. They were both delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will be back!

Yelp
Overall: a bit expensive for fairly simple looking food selections BUT their tea selection is superb. Look for their carefully curated chai selections as I think I saw one from somewhere in the Middle East I think? Ambience/Service/Decor: very modern clean white tiling and decorations with plenty of indoor seating and great wifi. The manager (I assume) was super friendly having nice chats with us which definitely trickled down to the staff level. Love the environment.

Yelp
- recommended to me by a coworker for their matcha lattes and food; - chicken shawarma 4/5, chicken was very well seasoned and tasty + veggies were super fresh! - matcha latte 2.5/5, not enough matcha powder in ratio to the milk

Yelp
Not recommended during weekend. Very crowded. Chocolate croissant: the most soggy and unimpressive croissant I've ever had. Chicken shawarma bowl: tastes phenomenal. Will definitely get this again. Great quality of food. Humus tastes yummy. I'm not a hummus person but I love this a lot. The grains that come with it was salted and has a chewy texture which I adore. Side of falafel: the most soggy and blandest falafel I've ever had. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Super cute cafe! Came here on a whim and everything was excellent. What stood out was the clean facility and customer service.

Yelp
Café Fili is truly a hidden gem. I really appreciated the experience that I had while dining here recently. I met up with a friend and we were both very pleased with the service, the ambience, and the food. At the time I was looking for a café that would be open late and this was the absolute perfect spot. I really appreciate the extended hours in service and the fact that they served lattes at 6 PM. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I went on a Tuesday night so it wasn't very busy and I was able to sit and enjoy my meal. However, I can see this location being busy on the weekend so if you would like to sit and actually have an experience, I would come a little bit early. I've been to this location twice now and each time I've been very pleased. The first time I went, I got a latte with the most beautiful latte art. And the second time I went, I tried the short rib grilled cheese, which was by far the best grilled cheese I've ever had in my entire life. The flavor of the meat and cheese, the essence of all the vegetables and onions, mixed with the crunchiness of the bread that they used was just an experience all its own. The side salad was so refreshing and the dressing delicious. Im excited to come back and try another option on the menu. Fun fact: I found out that they have an apartment building called "the Flats", which was a nice find so if you're interested in finding an apartment. You could maybe book a tour of the apartment and then dine at this café afterwards. I highly recommend this location.

Yelp
This cute little café is one of those hidden gems that you have to put on your list. I swung by here with some friends and I was very impressed. The menu is, simply put, unique and delicious - with plenty vegetarian options that are well priced. The place was spotless and very clean, loved the white ambiance! Ordered a Latte, Falafel bowl with some fries, and ended it with a Pecan Cheesecake, which was all delicious needless to say! Great staff with a great vibe. Beautiful presentation of pastries. You can skip Starbucks and those mediocre coffee shops, this is the place to go if you're in Baltimore! You'll love it!

Yelp
Haven't been here since it first opened. Returned recently and the lunch was delicious. We enjoyed a falafel grain bowl, lamb salad, and potato and lentil soup. We had the walnut baklava as well. This is a great space for breakfast, lunch, or a coffee meet up. I also appreciate customer service after a small mix up, felt like the staff made sure to make me feel welcome and valued.

Yelp
Overall: 4.7/5 (to go) Very cute, clean, & spacious cafe. Fast service. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. What's not to love? Almond Croissant ($4): The almond croissant wasn't heated up but it was still good. It also had a bit of filling in it. The croissant wasn't very sweet and also is great to dip in your coffee. Pistachio Baklava ($2.95): Really good baklava with great flavors and plenty of pistachio bits. One of the best ones I've had! Regular Chai Latte With Oat Milk ($4.95) and Biscotti Syrup ($0.95): The cashier girl was really sweet and was indulging me with experimental flavors for my latte. She recommended the chai latte since it was cold outside so the spices would warm me up. I don't usually go for chai lattes since every time I've gotten it, the spices were too much so I wanted to add a syrup to it. She gave me a few options that could go with the chai and I chose the biscotti one. She was also the one who made my drink and it came out really well. My husband who doesn't drink coffee loved my drink and drank half of it!!! Usually he only takes a sip to try so this was huge. I liked it as well but thought it was a tad too sweet for me.

Yelp
Loved the food here. Rose coffee was very interesting! Service was great, and the space is very warm and welcoming. Lovely place for a little brunch with friends

Yelp
I have always enjoyed getting a delicious meal at Cafe Fili :) The service is quick and smooth. Staff are friendly and helpful in accommodating to dietary restrictions. The vibes are perfect for a date, catching up with a friend over coffee, or enjoying solo-time. Parking is limited to street parking in the adjacent area.

Yelp
I been a frequent customer at cafe fili usually for breakfast. They had a great mint green tea, Iced lattes. I usually would one of their egg panini's which is good too. Recently, I been trying their avocado toast AMAZING!!!!! And I just recently tried the roasted potatoes with garlic sauce AMAZING! The service is also very professional! The place is always clean and neat. One of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood.

Yelp
4 staff 4 cleanliness 4 value 1 gyro The gyro meat was devoid of any seasoning. Unfortunately, the tzatziki sauce couldn't save it as it too was super bland. I'll be back to try other menu items but I hope chef explores ways to season things up for the gyro. Thanks

Melonie O.

Yelp
Pita chips and grain boils are so yummy and unique. Service is great. Very kind and respectful. I had a gyro recently that i didn't like that's why i deducted a star.

Yelp
Cute place with hapless service. Took forever to get my food - which arrived well after every other order in my group. Food? The falafel was some of the worst I tasted with a weird mushy texture. The rest was okay.

Yelp
Nice space on Cathedral across from the Emmanuel church. Fast food type cashier ordering. Tables weren't cleared. Wait was about 30 minutes for a felafel. Vibe was comfortable and fun. Felafel bowl, had couscous, humus, salad and cauliflower. Felafel was dry. Thin pita came with the bowl to make small sandwiches.

Yelp
Very inviting cafe, bright and open and comfortable. Although the service model is order and pick up drinks at the counter and have food brought to you, it's more of a proper restaurant than a coffee shop/cafe, and so I wouldn't say it's a good place to camp out and work, but lots of seats have outlets available if you need to charge anything. They serve brunch food with a Mediterranean and French influence. The fridge of packaged drinks focuses on local brands which is cool. Friendly and helpful staff. I came for lunch and had the Falafel Grain Bowl, the Mascarpone Chocolate Amaretto Cream dessert cup, and a Fili Tea Latte (just a butterfly pea flower latte). Everything was outstanding! The falafel bowl was fresh and all of the individual components were seasoned well - very flavourful. Basically every part of the bowl was notably good. Generous portion, enough for a hearty meal (not a super-sized American portion though; totally normal for one person). The dessert was also delicious. It was like a mascarpone mousse with a chocolate amaretto sauce on the bottom. The chocolate sauce had a great authentic taste and you could really taste the amaretto. The crunchy topping had an interesting flavour and I'm not sure what it was (could have been just amaretto) but it was very tasty! Normally butterfly pea flower drinks are really mild but their take had a more concentrated flavour which was nice for a change. I'm sure it was mostly the vanilla syrup helping to bring that out, but they definitely also use a high quality tea powder. The prices on everything are completely reasonable. For the bowl, I've definitely seen similar meals for a significantly steeper price, so I actually feel like I got a pretty good value which is not something I can often say at a modern urban brunch place like this! From my one visit, it seems like this is a really nice place on every front and I would recommend it for plenty of occasions - a casual brunch (or even dinner since they're open late) with a date or small group, or just a relaxed meal on your own.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Cafe Fili! Especially on warm days when the extra seating area is available outside. Great spot for a coffee meeting or to grab lunch! The falafel grain bowl is delicious! Great ingredients, tasty sauce... it was a perfect lunch! Other days I've been there I've enjoyed a cup of tea. The staff is always friendly and prompt. The pastries in the window are always tempting, and one day I'll break down and indulge!

Yelp
This little establishment is nestled in a nice neighborhood with lots of foot traffic which makes it a fun place to dine al fresco on their patio. The sangria was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Gyro Sandwich and the Mediterranean Lamb Salad. Both were delicious. We had a couple of servers who were attentive and delivered prompt service. Enjoyed our experience.

Yelp
Cafe Fili is a delightful place to grab brunch and chill or study. I wish I knew about this place earlier. They have a selection of pastries and baked goods, but also more substantial meals. When I went, it was still breakfast, which runs til 11 am. I got the Smoked Salmon on a crostini and the Pistachio Olive Oil cupcake, along with the Afghani Chai. The smoked salmon on a crostini was deconstructed. They give you two slices of bread, which are slightly toasted, 4 pieces of smoked salmon, some capers, chopped tomatoes, red onions, 1 quatered-hardboiled eggs, and lebneh (Middle eastern yogurt). Everything together was a perfect harmony, from the saltiness and acidity of the capers and lebneh to the creaminess of the egg and lox. Everything tasted so fresh too! The Pistachio Olive Oil cupcake was also great. It was moist and light, however, I wish there was pieces of pistachio in the cupcake itself. I did not enjoy the Afghani Chai as much as I thought I would. As a big tea drinker, the Afghani Chai was served black with a teabag and no sugar. I put a bit of half & half and honey and agave, yet it lacked in creaminess. I think part of the issue was the use of a tea bag rather then boiling the water in the spices itself. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Cafe Fili. The service was great and the place was clean. I defintely would come back to try more of their menu items again.

Yelp
Best croissant in Baltimore- that's all you need to know about this amazing neighborhood cafe- the best maybe in the world.

Yelp
Having tried the excellent Chicken Shish Tawook Kebab previously, My wife and I ordered out again today. She got the Short Rib & Cheese Panini, which she said was excellent, and I wanted to check the block for more Mediterranean food and ordered a Beef/Lamb mixture Gyro. Sorry to say I was very disappointed. My biggest surprise was that it was served cold!! The meat was cold, the Naan wrap was cold. SMH. And there was literally no excuse. I arrived to pick it up and they were still making the Gyro, so it was obviously made with cold meat and cold wrap. I could say that the flavor was not great, either, but given that it would have been much, much better if it had been served hot (or even warm!) it might have been edible. I won't order the Gyro again.
google avatar

Randy T.

Yelp
Food is pretty solid. I got the american scramble and the short rib panini (all for me har har) and the panini was pretty solid. Got that noice crunchy munchy for me to gobble on. Service was good too, you just order at the front desk, they give you a number and you sit. They also got wah tah so you don't need to ask them. Straight guzzling mode Small note: it seems like a great place to do work but they had notes around the cafe saying to limit dining to 45m during busy times so it might not be a great place to get work done during the heavy traffic hours. Overall though it seems to be good since they got plugz
google avatar

Faith R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! This was such a great find. It's very peaceful, calm, and great to sit in there to get some work done or meet up with someone for lunch! Also the baklava was to die for. The servers were also really nice!

Yelp
I was impressed by the menu here, breakfast and lunch. The coffee and cocktail menu both look very well thought out. The Turkish scrambler was delicious and the perfect sized portion. I look forward to going back for lunch!

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! Everything is so fresh and delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. PLUS they have delicious baklava AND various delicious desserts (they look like ones in a cooking competition). Definitely highly recommend!

Yelp
Yes! Yes! Yes! I've been looking for an empty, swanky cafe with good coffee that's open for dine in during this time. Found it! Almost don't want to share it but I've found it and it is good! Cafe Fili. Guess what ... Lo-Fi music blares from the speakers. What better way to sit down, enjoy coffee and get your work done. There's a 2 hour limit for dine in. Perfect! For my first visit I ordered the Chicken Pomodoro Panini and a Caramel Latte. Total: $16 bucks without tip. Not bad! The Chicken Pomodoro is Grilled chicken, roasted and sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, provolone cheese & basil pesto aioli. It was accompanied with a side salad. Both were delicious! Really, really good. The sandwich is fairly big so I'm taking half home with me. The house made dressing on the side salad is soooo good. When I return next week for my 2nd visit I'm going with a whole salad. I love the basil pesto aioli on the panini. I knew I wanted a coffee drink but couldn't decide on what to get. I told the very kind gentleman behind the counter that this was my first time visiting. He said ... "let me make you a Latte with a flavor of your choice. We make good Lattes here". So I took his suggestion and went with a caramel Latte. I'm so glad I did. It was crafted perfectly and look how pretty it is. I mean come on :) Heading back next week .. and the week after ... and probably the week after that :)

Yelp
Grabbed some hummus and homemade pita chips at the Baltimore Feastival yesterday and snacking on it this morning. All I can say is I can't wait to go back for more and to try more of their food. There were 3 different types, and I had the pesto hummus. I'm not a fan of store bought hummus and when you taste things like this it's easy to understand why...it just tastes so completely different. It was creamy, had a nice texture and is well seasoned. Can't have hummus without pita, these were perfectly thin and crispy. Ate them all, so unfortunately I'm unable to include a photo. Looking forward to going back and trying the trio with both the soft pita as some reviewers have suggested. Wasn't planning to post a picture, would have taken the photo before digging in, but it was so good I definitely recommend trying it when you visit!!!

Yelp
I used to love this restaurant but have found they've become pretty inconsistent with quality. The Caesar salad used to be made with kale (it's still listed with kale on the menu) but now they use romaine even though the price has increased by $2 (it used to be $11 with kale now it's $13 with romaine). I don't mind the price, I think it's fair for a salad and this salad has a super tasty dressing. My issue is that half the time you'll get nice romaine, and half the time you'll get nothing but gross watery stumps with a few anemic leaves like we did today. I hope they get this figured out because I love this place and want to continue supporting them but I also feel like I'm playing salad roulette every time I go there. Edit: bumping this up from 3 stars to 4. I messaged Fili on their Instagram and Chyno responded immediately and gave us a discount on our next meal as a way to make it up. Really appreciate the swift handling of this issue and I'll modify this review with my upcoming experience there.

Yelp
3.5 i recall picking up a to-go order from this place, i believe multiple restaurants have occupied this space. It took a long time for my order to be ready if i recall. I believe i ordered the lamb shawarma it was decent.

Yelp
The food at Cafe Fili, O.M.Goodness! Please, get into this!! Delicious is most definitely an understatement! Arguably one of the best meals I have eaten in 2020 and coming from a foodie such as myself, that is saying a lot! I found Cafe Fili through a "sandwich takeout" search on Yelp. I ordered immediately once a saw the menu. I have a special place in my heart for Mediterranean and this restaurant has moved to the top of my list! The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Both dishes were bursting with flavor! After I devoured my meal, I didn't feel heavy, rather I was satisfyingly full! Highly considering circling back to try some of their other dishes for dinner. Get here today, like right now! Drop whatever you're doing and make your way over to Cafe Fili!

Yelp
I relocated to Mt. Vernon last fall and recently discovered Cafe Fili. This is my new favorite breakfast spot and I eat here at least twice a week. My go-to meal is the Italian scrambler and I must say as one who eats a lot of eggs, it is the best egg dish I have ever had. To add to the experience, the owner and staff are welcoming and the ambiance is lovely in an updated historical building across from a beautiful stone church. For those who like to dine outside, there is an outdoor dining area under some sprawling trees. If you haven't tried it, stop by, you won't be disappointed!

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Well, if that's not the best cup of coffee I've ever had, however, 8.46$ for a cold brew and shot of espresso with some vanilla? Criminal. In what works can you justify these prices. I'll go on occasion but in the coffee saturated mount Vernon, I'll choose a more reasonable cafe.
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
Their food is not bad, but they would never pass a health and safety inspection. The woman who does salads talks on the phone and wipes her face during her shift in the same gloves that she wears to prepare salads in those gloves. Nasty. And they're way overpriced.
google avatar

Christi M.

Yelp
This place has turned into complete TRASH. I've been coming here for the past two years, and it appears that in the past three months, they have a new staff that just keeps messing up orders. I get the same thing every time that I go, and yet they manage to mess up a simple Cesar salad by moving the dressing in when it is a TOGO salad. On top of that, the new staff is completely rude. They have no regard for customers that have been coming there for years. Specifically the woman with short hair and glasses. Do better Fili. Especially for the people that are loyal to you. But, not anymore!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Consistently tasty, service is great, and the atmosphere is clean, open, and inviting. This place is such a gem for the neighborhood! You can get delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner for eat-in or takeaway. The sandwiches are all tasty, the shawarma is delicious, and the house made hummus never disappoints. Highly recommend this for a quick and tasty work lunch!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm kicking myself for not reviewing this place a lot sooner. Stopped in to grab a quick lunch during my lunch break. Snagged their chicken pomodoro panini which comes with a side of their fatoosh salad( chopped romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, parsley, mint, crispy pita chips in a sumac dressing). Everything was delicious. The ingredients they use are always fresh. Also snagged a rose lemonade as well, oh man so yummy as well. The service was really quick and fast, did not have to wait long for my food. They have outdoor seating as well, which is really nice during these Covid times. They do offer happy hour so I will definitely return for that, as well as stop in for lunch again.

Yelp
I forgot my lunch at home today, so I walked over to Cafe Fili for lunch. I ordered ahead on Toast, and it was ready when I arrived. I chose the lamb shawarma grain bowl with freekeh, roasted cauliflower, pickled turnip, chopped lettuce, classic hummus, and tahini sauce (with soft pita on the side). I picked it up inside and walked it over to one of their tables outside on Read Street, which was so nice. The little patio area has beautiful flower beds and tables with umbrellas, and it was such lovely weather as well. The food was good, and the experience of eating it out on their little patio area made it even better. As I'm just a short walk away, I'm sure I'll "forget" my lunch again so I can eat at Cafe Fili fairly regularly. What a nice lunch!

Yelp
I've come here 5 or 6 times and each time I come I'm reminded why I love it so much. The dining room is clean, well lit with huge windows letting natural light into the room. Everything from the way the drinks are organized on the cooler shelves to how the pastries are displayed, it's perfect. The staff here are the most pleasant I've ever experienced in the city of Baltimore. They're well spoken, kind and consistent. There isn't a layer of intimidation to get passed when asking them questions about the lattes or the food, they're ready and willing to give their best answers in such a kind way. The lattes and food are so delicious and the presentation on everything they bring to the table is always STUNNING! The colors of the cafe are so beautiful, the blue walls and the tile floors are so fabulous and well balanced by beautiful wooden tables and chairs and even some wood accents on the bar where the baristas are. There is absolutely no other cafe in the city of Baltimore that is as well appointed as this cafe. I love it, and to the staff and owners... thank you so much for bringing this side of town such a beautiful experience!

Yelp
Grabbed a quick bite for lunch today - such a cute cafe in Baltimore! The restaurant is open seating - you can order at the counter and sit wherever. It wasn't super busy when we got there so we were able to find a seat pretty quick. Some of the tables didn't seemed cleaned though, so we had to ask one of the servers to clear it off for us. I got the Tomato Basil soup and the Chicken Shwarma sandwich and everything tasted delicious! Portions sizes were perfect as well! Would definitely recommend for a quick lunch/coffee!

Yelp
went for baltimore restaurant week! the chicken pomodoro panini was very good and the hummus was alright as well. i thought it would come with pita chips lol 9/10

Yelp
This place is so cute! Cafe Fili has been on my list for sometime now. Finally went for lunch with my friend and we were so excited. The food did not disappoint. She got a chicken bowl while I got the Chicken Pomodoro sandwich. Both were really yummy!

Yelp
I don't know if this place is a hidden gem, or if I'm the only one who hasn't discovered this place before this year. I feel like I've been missing out. Upon walking in, it smelled like you were walking into your family's house who had been up all night cooking....turns out it was garlic pita chips...either way, I was happy. I had seen (on Instgram) about their Latte Art, and obiously, I wanted one. We got 3...one was a person sitting under a beautiful tree, a panda, and a cat....or should I say a cat-a-chinno....ok, enough. The food is mouth watering as well. Get one of everything. Ok, AND def. the Mushroom Panini (if you like to endulge in goat cheese) this is a must. Their seasme panini bread is unique and adds a special touch. Solid crunch. I'll be by tomorrow.

Keith D.

Yelp
Great food great coffee and great service. I come here all the time!!! Recommend the hummus and the chicken Caesar salad

Yelp
Cafe Fili is a really cute cafe in Mount Vernon. The atmosphere is very chill with a million cafe drink options and also alcoholic choices! I got one of the scramblers (one amongst the many breakfast options) and it was pretty decent! The salads and sandwiches look bomb though and I would definitely want to try one of those next time. This place is a bit on the pricier side but a nice place to study or grab a cup of coffee, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
