"Cafe Frederica is a favorite for breakfast and lunch for the island’s permanent residents and its frequent visitors. The cafe has been open for well over 30 years now on St. Simons. Try the crab cake benedict or the eggs benedict with country ham and corned beef." - Eater Staff

Very enjoyable breakfast. Food was excellent, I had the French Toast, my wife had the Cinnamon Roll, both were delicious. Coffee was good. Charge for refills on soft drinks. Automatically add $1 to your bill as a donation to St Simons Island trust. Saturday morning ~9 AM, 10-15 minute wait. Staff seemed a little distracted.

My boyfriend and I are here on his work trip at the Cloister so i decided to venture out and go to a new breakfast place, and this place is so good! Food was fresh, coffee taste great and it’s so cute inside! I definitely recommend coming here!

We really wanted to love this spot. Most of the reviews said it was a must include when visiting SSI. But it didn’t hit. The wait was about 20-30 minutes - and for Memorial Weekend that’s really not bad! But when we were seated the waitress took our drink orders but only brought half out with a coffee and 1 water. We ordered our food - the menu is pretty simple, limited options for breakfast to single items to make a combo. We went with French toast with potatoes and scrambled eggs as well as a regular pancake and two egg omelette. The food was… good, normal. I wanted more of a southern take, homemade from scratch feel. But it didn’t look or taste any different than I could get a regular diner. The waitress disappeared and didn’t refill our water , orange juice or coffee. The wait staff seemed a tad distracted. Overall not a bad experience, but not out of this world or a must stop while on SSI.

My sister and I came here for breakfast and I absolutely love this place. From the service to the atmosphere it's top notch. The food was delicious and fresh. I definitely recommend coming here, you will not be disappointed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Found this hidden gem this morning. The staff here is great and very attentive to their customers. The food portions are generous and full of flavor from our seats we where able to watch the kitchen staff preparing the meals. My family really enjoyed this Cafe and will definitely eat here again.

Google
Not sure what the hype is about this place… It was very disappointing. Food is pricey.. and most of the food served was from frozen. We sat at the bar counter and watched frozen biscuits and English muffins being baked.. eggs served in sandwich had no salt at all.. and they used microwave to warm up grits.. breakfast potatoes. Overall a complete waste of money.. especially if we have to wait for 30 mins to get a table.

Google
A little tough to locate this quaint little neighborhood diner has a friendly wait staff, open view kitchen, and is clean and well kept. Portion sizes were plentiful but the breakfast itself was just ok.... not overwhelming. . The biscuits and gravey seemed to be hamburger based and the toast was delicious as it is grilled after toasting.

I had the eggs Benedict salmon. Im fussy about no runny whites but I like my yoke still runny. They cooked them perfectly as per my request. Absolutely recommend Ferdericas!! Food was yum!

Yelp
I have eaten here for 20 years and never had one disappointment. The food is consistently great and so is the service. The friendly atmosphere adds to the overall experience. Stephanie A

Yelp
Tucked away in a shopping complex. We took a bike ride over from our rental house next to the golf course. The food is made to order diner style and very good! We will definitely be back again. It's a small place but plenty of tables. We didn't understand the layout of the menu completely and ended up with a $48 (before tip) breakfast for two but could have been avoided. Here are my tips: Ask questions: The menu was a little hard for me to understand the way things were laid out. Basically, all items on the breakfast side is à la cart. Share your sides: Items come in full size or half size. (Not all listed that way on the menu however our waiter was very helpful letting me know they do offer half orders with the items we ordered the full size was plenty to share with 2 people) Tip: Every item in the omelette except the cheese is an extra charge. That is what bumped up our cost by over $12

Yelp
My sister came to town and I'd read great reviews of this spot so we decided to try it. There was some kind of issue with the kitchen so they said they had a limited menu. I came for the Eggs Benedict. Definite No. The hollandaise sauce was inedible. So there went my breakfast. My sister eggs were okay and their bacon was okay. With the quality and prices, I wouldn't want to come back. The bright spot was our server who was a Ray of Sunshine!

Marsha B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. I have eaten here twice, breakfast first and lunch second. Breakfast was very good and the Ruben sandwich was excellent. Ambiance could use a little help but is clean. Very nice and friendly staff. I will be back.

Carley S.

Yelp
Cute place but I'd go somewhere else. Everything is a la carte. Love that you can build your plate but it makes things so expensive. Yes, inflation. However, my moms veggie omelette was probably $18 which is how much my seafood omelette would cost. The smoked salmon was good. I did have to peel the brown pieces off. Moms omelette and potatoes were bland. My niece got a lunch sandwich and loved it!

Yelp
Food is good. Service is fair because only 2 servers per day. However the cost for breakfast will be around $40 (without tip) for 2 people. Nothing special was ordered. Figure on $10 more than other places for the same items. We will be going elsewhere because of cost from now on.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Can only give the place 3 stars because our server only came back to the table ONCE. Thank god for the older gentleman bussing tables who was kind enough to get drinks refills for us. As we never saw the server again until it was time for the check. Food was completely worth the 35 minute wait. Will go back again, but will ask for a different server next time.

Yelp
10+ years on, this place remains our favorite breakfast / brunch place on St. Simons Island. All entrees are tasty and fresh. The quality is consistent year after year. This speaks volumes to the worthiness of this spot for a visit. Go and enjoy!

Mike S.

Yelp
Food was decent, service was fine. I just cannot get over the cost. It does not have a good ambience, it is not in a prime location, yet it was $54 for my wife and I to have breakfast. Everything is a la carte, and VERY expensive. It has waterfront prices without the waterfront. I got the steak and eggs, my wife got an omelette, and we each had a coffee. It was almost $60 with tip.....are you kidding me??? Also, the steak and eggs was 2 eggs with 2 tiny little steak nuggets. I will not be back. You can literally get breakfast at ANY other St. Simon's restaurant that has a view for the Same if not cheaper price. Maybe this was a staple prior to everyone using Covid as an excuse to jack up prices.

Craig Y.

Yelp
Away from the island tourist area we noted that many were local 'regulars'. We waited 30 minutes to get a breakfast seating but was worth it. Really good food and service. Price is rated $ but with a few extras my bill is $60.00 for 3 adults. The seating is limited but they move customers in and out efficiently w/o feeling rushed.

Yelp
Wondering if I can just get away with great food & excellent service for breakfast & call it a day ? We tried their Coffee, Eggs Benedict with breakfast sausage , French toast, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, fried eggs & hash browns. Locals really love this place also.?

Deidre S.

Yelp
Step 1: Add your name and group size to the unmanned list. Step 2: Wait (typically 20-25 min wait on the weekend) Step 3: Order ( Menu is pretty much a la carte) Step 4: Enjoy! - Food is phenomenal. Nothing too fancy (no flavored coffee, lattes, or farm-to-table quail eggs), but absolutely everything we ordered was delicious.

Joe T.

Yelp
Great food and service. Had the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. It was excellent.

Emily H.

Yelp
Arrived around 11:30 for Sunday brunch, party of 4. Put our name on the list and was told to wait an unknown amount of time. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated. Waited another 15 or so for drink orders to be taken. About 6 other tables seated after us got their food before us. When my order came out it was incorrect but corrected pretty quickly. The waitress was apologetic and discounted us. It's a long time to wait for adequate food.

Jeremy H.

Yelp
Solid all American breakfast spot - no frills but great eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage and service Nothing fancy

Yelp
This was our first meal in St. Simons. Even better than the food was the excellent service, which is hard to find these days. At every turn someone checked in on us. This was a really special experience.

Mahalie D.

Yelp
Good quality food for price. Place is a little hole in the wall with great staff. Always busy when I go, but staff is always fast with service.

Douglas D.

Yelp
Food was decent, little pricey. Ordered a ham and cheese omelet, no toast, no potatoes.

Dave S.

Yelp
Great food and awesome service for a reasonable price!! My favorite breakfast destination while on St Simons Island!!

Chloe C.

Yelp
Another really good brunch spot in town! I had their 2 egg omelette. I say I eat a good amount per meal and the 2 egg omelette filled me up just enough! My friend joked the food was so fresh, they prob have chickens in the back of the restaurant laying eggs :) Also love their grits!

Emily B.

Yelp
The cafe used to be really good. They have drastically raised their pricing. A grilled chicken salad is $18. It consisted of bagged iceberg lettuce, one tomato wedge, half an egg, and dry chicken. I can get a better salad from Zaxby's for less money.

Carla H.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast location - we chose to eat here three of the four days we were in Saint Simons - delicious food with top notch service with a smile also kept us coming back! Will be back next time we visit the area!

Chef Ross K.

Yelp
Cafe Frederica has by far become our favorite breakfast spot on the island. On this morning, looking for something light, I had the quiche special with grits and grapefruit sections. The quiche was delicious and of a good portion. The grits were perfectly creamy and the grapefruit sections chilled and refreshing. Other favorites are the corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy. I could go on and on about other items on the menu. Definitely a must on the island. If there is a wait when you arrive, do yourself a favor and wait.

Teisha S.

Yelp
Great food. I didn't like the pasta salad on the lettuce salad but they were good separately. Quiche was really yummy. Great service. Clean. A little hard to find but don't give up.

Tia M.

Yelp
Love this little breakfast and lunch spot. Lots of local regulars make it part of their day for a reason. It's always busy, especially on the weekends but the wait is worth it! Their food is fantastic. Good sized portions and a huge variety of options.

Lisa K.

Yelp
Great hidden breakfast place in SSI! Service & food was terrific!! It was worth the trouble finding it!

Molly P.

Yelp
A tiny challenge finding this place but it was great. Food and service were top notch.

Juliana H.

Yelp
Three letters for you: O-M-G! Amazing breakfast food. If you like crabcakes, try the crabcakes Benedict, you won't be disappointed. The service is fast and friendly, but be prepared to wait for a table. It's a small restaurant and all the locals know about it.

Brooke E.

Yelp
Just GO!!! The food was AMAZING. Loved that we found this hole in the wall. Everything is homemade and you can tell it is. My Mom always made chip beef gravy when I was growing up. I have never seen it on a menu before, needless to say I had to order it. I cant rave enough about how delicious everything was.

Lamont F.

Yelp
Love this place. Wanted something different from the commercial chains and I found it. Portions are large for the fatty in me. Great service very friendly and inviting. I'll definitely be back again and look to bring my team as well... Living in Jax I look for places to give me a taste that's different from the norm...I've found it.

Gus L.

Yelp
Don't bother ordering the French toast it's not worth the $7.95 ! Coffee is good thou!

Brandon E.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I'm new to the area and wanted to find a good local breakfast place (or pretty much anything other than a Waffle House) and then this place appeared. To begin, this place seems to get packed. When I first arrived, there were people waiting outside in the rain which gave me hope that it was good. Luckily, I was eating alone so I was able to go right up to the counter with no wait. (I should note that there is a notebook near the cash register that you put your name on to get in line. No one there asks for it.) I had a cheese omelet with pepper jack, cheese grits, and sourdough toast. For all of this, it only came out to be $12 with tip included. The omelette was good. Nothing super special, but nothing bad. I would definitely be okay ordering it again. The grits though, they were great! Since moving down south for a few months, I've been trying them most places I can, but these had some pepper in it which I have never experienced before. And for only $2.50, you can't pass it up. Also had a great conversation with a local at the counter sitting next to me and she told me some cool things to do on the island. Everyone knew her by name, it it seemed like a very close knit kind of place. I will be back!

Amanda B.

Yelp
Be prepared for a wait, especially on the weekends, but that just tells you how popular this place is and how good the food is. Simple restaurant, simple all-American food, but so delicious and well done. I started with coffee and a warm, yummy cheese danish as big as my hand. I had Eggs Benedict on a fresh, large English muffin with bacon and enjoyed every bite. My kids loved the big pancakes. Delicious hearty food and friendly service! Will definitely make this our breakfast spot.

Yelp
The whole time I was eating I was wondering if the two trains going around and around the dining room in opposite directions would every collide. Nope. They were on two different, concentric tracks. There is a whole Youtube channel where toy trains are made to collide. Graceful Lionels, clunky Lego trains, all of the Thomas the Tank Engine crashes, even a clip of Gomez Addams crashing his trains from The Addams Family movie. If you ever think about it, you realize we live in a weird society. By God, that's why places like Cafe Frederica are needed now more than ever. A neighborhood place to escape all that can't be understood anymore. There was so much that I wanted on the menu, I kind of wanted to eat, walk around the block, come in for another go at it, walk again, and maybe slide an order of blueberry stuffed French toast in there to get to all of what I wanted. I shied away from the decadence of stuffed French toast though and settled on a bacon omelette, home fries, and some blueberry pancakes. A blissful collision of different tastes, warmth, and breakfast craftsmanship. My mother-in-law lives about 100 yards from this cafe and that's how I ended up here. If I lived 100 yards from Cafe Frederica, I would sell all of my pots and pans, my stove, my microwave and I would empty out the fridge and sell that too. I would have no use for them anymore. I'd also end up weighing 900 pounds. Nothing weird, but I'm sure there's a Youtube channel for that too. .

Arianna M.

Yelp
It's worth it. Literally a hidden gem. The GPS kinda threw us off but we were able to find it. Write your name on the list and wait to be called. Let me tell you- the stuffed blueberry cream cheese French toast was recommended by our waitress and it did not disappoint!! Amazing. Decadent. Closes by 2 so make sure you get there early!

Pamela J.

Yelp
A cute little local cafe. The pancakes were amazing! I love that my Diet Coke was served in a glass bottle!

Christy C.

Yelp
I dined here for Sunday brunch and was extremely pleased with the friendliness of the servers as well as the amazing food. My two friends and I ordered three dishes and asked for an extra plate so we could share each of the items. We had the following (in order of what we liked the best): -Quiche special: crab, onion, havarti cheese -Stuffed blueberry French toast special -3 egg omelette with cheddar, bacon, mushrooms, onion and bell pepper There was about a 30 minute wait which wasn't ideal as there is no where inside to wait and it was quite hot out. I noticed some guests were waiting in their cars (with the AC on I'm sure). When you walk in the room to the right facing the building there is a list at the bar you write your name and number in your party on. We were seated at a large table on the end with another party which wasn't an issue as everyone was friendly - it's the south! I'd highly recommend trying out Cafe Frederica for breakfast. Look for a shady place out front while you wait!

Mark M.

Yelp
Really Really good hole in the wall place for breakfast. Great service and the food preparation was first class.

Amelia A.

Yelp
Overall kind of boring, but it was extremely busy. If you really want breakfast food it's not a bad spot but I would go for Waffle House over here.

Shawn B.

Yelp
Food was good, coffee was very good when we could get some. Waitress was friendly but easily distracted. Took a long time to get coffee originally and a couple times asking before finally getting more. We saw multiple tables with the same problem maybe they were just understaffed as it was mostly full when we were there. Overall it was fine not great. Still worth the try and definitely could tell they have some regular locals there.

Alex M.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday, service & staff were excellent. Food was fresh & delicious. Even with minmal staffing. It was a perfect find, a little hidden gem. However, we returned the following morning for breakfast before leaving town... different story. Food was terrible, service was subpar, surprising since there was higher staffing for the day. We decided to order sandwiches to go - thru screwed up bread choices on the sandwiches, we plastic found in the potato salad. First day was definitely 5 stars, but not after the following day's experience.

Jennie S.

Yelp
Would really like to have tried the food here but after waiting 20 minutes, finally Just left. We did manage to get a glass of water but that was it. Staff didn't seem to care about any of the customers. Better off going to Waffle House; at least you can get served.

Megan B.

Yelp
Cute little breakfast place. The servers were friendly and worked as a team. The seating is limited but it was worth the wait. Their coffee was delicious and so was the authentic French bread French toast. There's not much waiting room outside and the place is a little tricky to find but it's worth the wait !

Chloe D.

Yelp
Basic cafe. Maybe I did not order the popular items on the menu but my chicken sandwich was basic. Would give it another try and see if maybe I missed something. Waitstaff however were very upbeat and attentive!

David B.

Yelp
Very good breakfast. Had French toast, eggs and bacon. All were perfectly cooked and delicious! We will definitely be back on our next trip.

R T.

Yelp
I admit I was sceptical walking in but was immediately greeted. I was able to seat myself and was served very soon. There was only one main servers but she did great. My food came in a timely fashion and was very good. We were checked on multiple times and they made sure everything was right. It was cheaper than most places around here which made me buy more stuff than I normally would, and it was worth it! Everything was flavoured just right and was really one of the hidden charms. Great for all ages and families. I will be coming back!

Adolfo B.

Yelp
What a great find! The cafe is nestled in a pocket off of Sylvan Dr - as soon as you turn onto the drive make your first right. You will be greeted with a welcome home type feeling and quickly note the place is quaint with tables positioned close to one another. The menu is not expansive but offers traditional breakfast and brunch items. Ask about daily specials. If you are a coffee lover they serve a very good local coffee... enjoy a cup.. Prices are reasonable and the portions are satisfying.

Lynn S.

Yelp
It was hard to find this restaurant, but so glad we did. The services relaxed and attentive. The menu for breakfast was spot on with basics and build your own breakfast. Quality food and local's atmosphere. We will be back.

Debra S.

Yelp
Great food and service. Prices may be a little high but the food shire is good. The best breakfast on the Island.
