The 25 Essential Montreal Sandwiches

"This decades-old Italian haunt in the Garment District up on Chabanel recently opened a shinier location in Westmount, making its sandwiches an undisputed highlight in both parts of town. The Famous Chicken Cutlet — served with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and bomba (spicy Calabrian pepper spread) — basically speaks for itself." - Erinn Blicher, Eater Staff

13 Worthy Westmount Restaurants for Takeout | Eater Montreal

"After nearly six decades at an address in the Garment District, this Italian spot expanded to Westmount with many of the its classic Italian sandwiches while expanding its menu to substantial offerings of pasta and protein courses. Westmount residents are big on the coffee and lemonade here as well, and the neatly designed interior from Zebulon Perron ain’t too shabby either." - JP Karwacki

★★★★★ This place is a true trademark of the hardworking people who built something unique and long-lasting. You’ll find excellent coffee and sandwiches made in authentic Italian style—simple, fresh, and full of flavor. They’ve been serving the Chabanel apparel and footwear community for as long as I can remember. A must-visit if you’re in the area. Five-star spot, without a doubt.

Spaghetti, Meatballs, Mozzarella, Basil, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? 🍝❤️ . What could I say, I'm a sucker for a delicious bowl of Spaghetti and Nonna Teresa's Veal Meatballs. Tried the new location of @cafegentile last summer and I've ordered from there about 4 times since it was so good. Loved the new vibe they are going for, but after being a loyal customer for over 25 years now, the OG spot on Parc Av off Chabanel is a go to of mine for a great sandwich and salad ❤️.

Old School Italian neighborhood coffee shop. Very nostalgic and the coffee and baked goods were delicious. They even have dairy free Milk. Very Impressed 👍

Food was very good. We had the ricotta pancakes, classic chicken parmesan sandwich, and the Sunday lunch (spaghetti with meatballs) with iced tea and lemon granita. Beautifully decorated and good use of the space. Service was good but a bit confused and overall we found it be on the end of the price scale coming in at $30 pp for 3 meals, a coffee, and Iced tea (including tax and tip).

Café Gentile is a small coffee shop located in a beautiful area next to a lot of other shops. As soon as we arrived, my friend and I were greeted by the waitress who asked us where we wanted to sit. We decided to have a seat on the outdoor terrace since it was very nice outside. The terrace is very cosy, but small! It makes it hard to have a conversation without hearing everyone else's conversation. Despite that, everything is very beautiful, inside and outside. As for the food, my friend ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel with the small potatoes and I had the avocado toast with a plate of fresh fruit. We also both had iced lattes with almond milk. The iced lattes were delicious, but only after we asked the waiter to add more almond milk because they felt bitter before that. The coffee was very strong, but very good! The cream cheese bagel was delicious, filled with smoked salmon and perfectly crunchy. The potatoes were also very good. I'd have to say I was a little bit disappointed with the avocado toast, I thought it was going to be a bigger portion than that, especially for the price. It was very good, just expected it to be bigger. The fresh fruit plate was huge and definitely fresh! I would recommend this place if you're grabbing coffee on the go or for a little breakfast date with friends or family. The service is very good as well, everything arrived fast and the waiters explained some items on the menu for us.
