There’s a Top-Secret Ramen Special Hiding at a Westside Mall - Eater LA

"L.A. Taco brings news of a new coffee shop in Boyle Heights: Cafe Girasol is the brainchild of ska musicians Jovan Loera and Patti Hernandez. In addition to brewing coffee and hosting live music, the duo is hoping their cafe on Cesar Chavez Avenue will be “a space for bands, spoken word, book clubs, movie nights, study sessions, and more.”" - Karen Palmer

Cafe Girasol is an absolute gem! This adorable hole-in-the-wall coffee shop is the perfect spot to unwind. Whether you're indulging in their homemade treats or savoring your new favorite coffee beverage, you'll feel right at home. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming, making every visit a delight. Plus, they sell wonderful merchandise from small businesses, adding a unique touch to the experience. Don't miss out on their monthly events either! If you're nearby, definitely check it out. You won't be disappointed!

I don't drink coffee so the owner made me the most delicious matcha oat milk tea EVER! It tasted like horchata but with a matcha spin on it, SOOO GOOD. She is the cutest, sweetest barista Ive ever met. She didn't give me a eye roll when I requested a baristas choice that wasn't coffee & I really appreciated that. Parking is not bad because spots open very frequently. Such a chill family vibe. & There was even live music going on with many local vendors.

This coffee shop is not just great coffee, it’s a great vibe. Not just Some of the Best coffee in Boyle heights, cafe girasol provides a an open space for community events to be held, and you can tell cafe girasols is first and foremost a supporter and member of their community. Very small town vibes in the middle of Los Angeles. In fact, that’s what keeps me coming back. The community and the people and the store owners are all friendly and fun. There’s plenty of outlets to get work done and enjoy some great coffee and I highly recommend. My biggest issue is the street parking, but that’s an LA issue in general. The vibes of cafe girasol and their little community coffee shop makes me understand why community is so important to a good cup of coffee. I suggest the hot cafe de olla, especially during this rainy season.

I have been hearing a buzz about a few different Latino owned coffee shops in the neighborhood and wanted to seek them out and support them. It was my first time here and I was looking for a coffee of the day a regular house brew’ but the barista told me they can make me an Americano as they didn’t have a house brew. I was a little reluctant because I’m picky but I had to say it’s one of the best espresso drinks I’ve had in a long time and I will continue to support this place and so should you if you live in the area. On my way to get a quadruple shot Americano with café de la olla sweetener if you’re a real coffee fan and I’m sure it’ll work well if you do iced lattes

Great service, delicious coffee, and a real local feel. What more could you ask for? Don't support cruel, faceless corporate entities that could care less about you and your family

Yelp
Really nice coffee spot in East LA. I had an iced latte and it was really good. I arrived at about 11am on a Saturday and they were not too busy. I ordered right away and my drink was ready in less than 10min. They have a lot of little items for sale from different small vendors. I thought it was cool to look at all the magnets, tote bags and other things while waiting for my coffee to be ready. They have a few tables indoors where you can sit and enjoy your coffee. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy my coffee there but it seems like a good place to go do some studying.

Yelp
Fun and cute little coffee shop in East LA area. I had a latte and loved it. It was so creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. They also sell merchandise from different vendors which includes tote bags , stickers , candles and mugs. They were all super creative and cute. They also have a lovely mural of a sunflower which I loved. When I visited the owner also had her friends there and they were playing some music. Parkin can be tricky as it's only street parking but if you go in the mornings you probably will get lucky with parking.

Yelp
Very glad I found this place. My sister and I were looking for a coffee shop in Boyle Heights/ East LA area and came across this shop, thanks to Yelp. It's a cute neighborhood shop with some retail options (I got a cute mug) and they have cookies and beans for sale. The barista was very friendly and patient with us as we decided what we wanted to order. They also made recommendations which didn't disappoint. My sister got the cafe de olla latte and I got the bourbon caramel w/ cold foam. Both were delicious! Next time I'm in the area I'll def be back.

Yelp
Nice cafe in the heart of Boyle Heights/ eastside ( not East LA) that serves delicious coffee (sit for a bit and relax or get it to go). Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I don't like leaving low scores for new businesses, however, I was really looking forward to this place and it was not what I expected. I ordered the brown sugar latte with oat milk. The barista asked if I liked my drinks on the sweeter side, and I told him I did. Well, not only was the latte not sweet but it had a really bad after taste. I'm not sure what beans they're using or what, but after 3 sips I couldn't drink it anymore. My friend ordered their cold brew with a splash of milk, to his dismay it also was not good at all. I don't want to be harsh, however, I think more time needs to go into perfecting their drinks. The only thing we enjoyed was the ube cookie, that was a 10/10. Aside from that, parking is hit or miss but that's a given since they're in Boyle heights. I did feel like the space had some potential however, it looks like they're still working on the furnishing and painting.

Yelp
We love small businesses, and we love small businesses that support other small businesses even more!! I can't get over how cool this lowkey spot was. You walk in and you're immersed with art and local artists merchandise. It's absolutely beautiful. The owner is incredibly kind and told us about how the books are actually an open library. Customers are welcome to take books and contribute to the library by bringing books of their own to share and spread the love of reading! I appreciated that a lot especially in our communities. The drinks and pastry selection are amazing! Honestly at first sight of the menu it seemed basic coffee shop protocol items, but then the owner quite magically suggested to make my matcha latte the way he takes it, with mushroom infusion and lavender to sweeten. My mind was blown and my tastebuds were very happy. We stumbled upon this cafe by accident but I can't wait to come again and share the love with others!

Yelp
Had the best experience at this little cafe! My son and I were on a road trip and found Cafe Girasol not far from the freeway. Barrista Michael invited my son to play guitar while he was making a cappuccino, and then played some of his original music. Was super cool of him to light that little spark of joy in my kiddo! Coffee was delicious! And so was the cookie. We will always remember that as the best part of our road trip.

Yelp
Very personable yet professional. Great local coffee shop with a relaxing atmosphere that is very quiet with great music in the background.

Yelp
Great place Loved the Lavender latte would recommend it or a matcha drink with cold foam freaking amazing. Worth the try and drive.

Yelp
I was in the area running errands and wanted to stop by for a cup of coffee/ study break. Doesn't look like the times are updated. Will try later.

Yelp
This place is so cute and the atmosphere is great! I love how there is other vendors items for sale here. From pins to bags they got you!! I ordered an iced chai latte and it was 10/10! I also bought a cute tote bag! I'll be ordering a hot drink next time :)

Yelp
What a great find! I walked in for coffee, ended up with an amazing turmeric latte, a tshirt, pin and sticker. Love small business.

Yelp
Now the drink was sub par. Imma be real. But this is coming from a person who BARELY drinks coffee in the first place. I ordered the Vanilla Latte with Almond Milk. It was a bit dull in flavor and in my opinion could have bit a BIT more sweet. But other than that its a solid drink. 3.5/5 for the drink. The main reason I go to Starbucks, Tierra Mia or any coffee places like that is more for the environment/atmosphere rather than the actual food and drinks themselves. And let me tell you, Café Girasol did NOT disappoint when it comes to the vibes. Bro, this place has got a book shelf, a cozy couch, cool art thats on the walls, a dope sunflower mural. Not only that, but this place has merchandise from independent businesses. Which include clothing, pins and other dope accessories. The lady at the counter was super nice and my friend Cesar and I were understanding that the card reader was not working. We paid in cash which is cool no complaints there. Again though, I come for the atmosphere and ambience, its an opportunity to do some work on my laptop without being at home. I like doing work in other areas because its stimulating and it helps me focus. But, because there was no wifi i couldnt use my laptop. Overall, I feel this place deserves 4 out of 5 stars but because of this specific experience Im going to have to give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
This place is amazing, the coffee is the best I've ever had. The service is wonderful as well. They were able to customize my drink exactly how I love it and I drive an extra mile to get my coffee here before heading to work. It'd be a crime not to go here,

Yelp
This shop is super cute and artsy! Plus they got a good amount of merch from other community vendors. They've got great tasting coffee! When I go, they always ask me if the sweetness is to my liking and if not they can adjust it. I love that! totally recomend it if you're in the east la area! Worth it!

Yelp
Excellent coffee and such a warm inviting atmosphere! The owner was so nice and made sure we were satisfied with our drinks. As you wait for coffee, you can browse work from local artists which is featured across the coffee shop. There are even candles and cute stickers you can purchase. Coffee is EXCELLENT. Highly recommend!
