In Nova Scotia, the Waves Are Fast and the Food Is Slow | Bon Appétit

"A small, sweet, brunch-focused spot that blends French classics with diner comfort: expect flaky quiche and croque-monsieurs, house-made brioche stacked with honey-caramelized ham and finished with a torched béarnaise, and pasta-driven evening dishes. The menu leans on seasonal produce from a nearby urban farm and features dishes like fresh tagliatelle tossed with pungent pink oyster mushrooms in a rich cream sauce and sunny tomatoes on garlic-rubbed sourdough." - ByMelissa Buote

Google
I stopped by this little café and it was clearly a popular spot - the place was packed when I walked in! The food all looked delicious, the service was quick, and the staff were incredibly kind. I ordered a flat white, and it was both beautiful and delicious (kudos to the barista!). This will definitely be my go-to coffee spot whenever I’m downtown Dartmouth.

Nice spot. Wandered in on a Sunday and overall happy with everything. Employees were friendly and accommodating. Food was tasty and coffee was good. If you are out and about I recommended grabbing a coffee here to either sit and people watch or take for a stroll

This café has everything a caffeine lover could want—and more. It’s a trendy, vibrant spot with a hip atmosphere and genuinely friendly service. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality. I visited on a Sunday morning and there was already a line outside, which says a lot about its popularity. Definitely worth the wait!

Cute spot with lots of character. Coffee is awesome. While I hoped they offered pour over but settled for their feature americano which on point. We had their breakfast sandwiche. One of the tastiest Breakfast sandwiches I’ve had in a while.

The tastiest espresso and the milk is steamed to perfection. I had my first breakfast sandwich, on gluten free bread and the sauce was so flavourful. I love the hand crafted touches everywhere you look. Really captures the Downtown Dartmouth vibe and creates a welcoming atmosphere. They even made sure my name was spelled correctly and used ASL for 'thank you'. It can get pretty loud with overlapping conversations but it's a well lit and functional space overall.

First, the name. Cafe Goodluck is such a straightforward, positive appellation that you can’t help but be charmed from first hearing about it. Walking in, you’re greeted by a cozy atmosphere and cheerful staff that make you feel welcome. If I weren’t in the city for business, I’d certainly be back! The logo, an adorably derpy-looking horse, is endearing and I so wish it was on more merchandise! “Drink coffee, go so fast” is exactly what that horse would say, and it’s just too bad that slogan isn’t on more merch. I had the Americano and a ginger cookie, both of which were great. The coffee was served in a special mug that I forget the name of, but he point is that even that was specially selected. Can’t exactly say what it is, but everything that went into this establishment feels curated, like you’ve been invited into someone’s beautiful world, and you’ll appreciate that for sure! Would I make a special trip? If you want to hit up cafes you can’t miss it! If you’re in Dartmouth, you gotta go. But if you see the photos and read this review and aren’t charmed, then you’re probably ok skipping. Overall, Cafe Goodluck has a unique character that I found especially charming. If that appeals to you, make the trip! Just wish they had more of that horse on merch lol!

Google
Stumbled upon Good Luck Cafe and was seriously impressed! The service was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in — you can tell they care about what they do. We tried the iced latte and iced mocha, and both were excellent — smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. To go with the coffee, we had a cinnamon coffee cake-style cookie, and wow — it was soft, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet. Easily one of the best coffee shop treats we’ve had in a while. Highly recommended if you’re looking for quality coffee and a cozy, laid-back vibe. We’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow! I think I found my new favorite coffee joint in the HRM!!! Located on the end of Portland Street in downtown Dartmouth at the bottom of an apartment building this super hipster and cute place with a tulip motif is super cozy. The coffee is smooth - from Have Fun coffee roasters in Burnside Industrial Park. Tried the eggie - what a revelation! Kind of a mix of a croissant with an egg, cream cheese and onions. Super fresh and tasty. The breakfast sandwich was amazing - huge slab of pork as an option! Lots of seating - tables and countertop. As standard utensils they also have chopsticks!!! Apparently gets extremely busy on weekend mornings - glad I got here right at opening! No wifi, parking is on the street.

Yelp
Small but cute cafe! There is some seating available inside and out. They have a fridge area where you can purchase some locally made sauces, food and desserts. We went around noon and they didn't have much of their bakery items left, but what we ended up getting was excellent. Service was quick and friendly. I had, hands down, the best London Fog I've ever had in the HRM! I also had an eggy bun, it was delicious!

Yelp
I've been to this downtown Dartmouth spot a couple of times and my experiences have been positive. Friendly staff, delicious baked treats, with options for savoury and sweet things. Today included a potentially perfect Blueberry scone with just the right amount of glaze. The scone was moist on the inside but also had just enough bake/crunch on the edges. My wife got an "eggy", which I ate most of, which was tasty and garlicky. She also got Raspberry pinwheel with a raspberry butter cream frosting (at least I think it was), which was excellent! Until next time...

Always a delicious cup of coffee, and the treats are scrumptious. Fast, friendly service.

Yelp
Been here twice now, the first time was a Monday so the kitchen was closed (unfortunately). They have great grab & go items ready for the day. I got a Mediterranean pastry; delicious! The next experience I had here, was also just as great! I ordered the brioche with fruit and it was AMAAAAZZZINNNGG. I thought I'd wanna order more as I'm used to huge breakfasts at chain restaurants but it was perfect. I didn't need to order anything but that & my coffee. I love how I was satisfied and not wasting food :) As for the interior, absolutely adorable! And the staff was very helpful both times :) Especially as I'm clueless.. not realizing to order up at the front (clearly states on the menu) and that milk, sugar etc for coffee is self serve (duh). ***** Another day, another 5 star. I keep forgetting to check kitchen hours rather than cafe hours so the kitchen was closed this time again, but I ended up getting a breakfast pastry (as seen in photos) for only $5! Very filling and delicious!

Yelp
We had wanted to try Cafe Good Luck as we had read good reviews. it is a small restaurant with a hipster-esque feel to the decor. small menu - brunch and lunch items. when looking at the plates that our neighbours got - the portions are somewhat on the small side esp the breakfast sandwich. as we were quite hungry I went with the noodle bowl and my partner went w the BLT with potatoes thinking that they may be larger lol. the noodle bowl was...different. I didn't love or hate it. I was hoping for more of an asian flair - the noodles were a bit hard (I think soba noodles would have been better as its cold salad) and underwhelming. the veggies and egg were fine. some local kimchi would have been a great addition! my partner said his sandwich was good but the potatoes on the side lacked seasoning. I'd give this place another try- this experience was so-so!

Yelp
Wow. I popped in on a very busy day and was treated to perhaps the tastiest turkey sandwich I have ever had. The turkey was the real kind, with bacon and tasty sauce, hugged between two slices of delicious sourdough bread. Yum. Despite the busyness of the day (it was SWITCH in Dartmouth, with crowds passing by outside), the staff were lovely and quick. I will be back, and often!

Yelp
On the very limited breakfast menu, we both chose the breakfast sandwich. 2 sandwiches WITHOUT meat and 2 coffees came to $20! We had yo wait in line to order at the counter. Then the service was SO slow...on a Tuesday at 10:30. Food good, not great.

Yelp
hot chocolate was very tasty and beautiful! coffee wasn't the best i ever had, but overall fine. the cafe itself is on the small side with limited seating, and is pretty busy most times! but if you can get there when it's slow, it's beautiful!

Yelp
Staff is very friendly; everything is delicious (especially the soup), such a good place for a quick bite to eat!

Yelp
This small place on Portland Street is upscale. Great new addition to the Downtown Dartmouth Neighbourhood. The Croque Monsieur is a real hit with lots of cheese on top and lots of ham in the middle.

Yelp
This is one of my fave local spots, the food and drinks are top quality, I've been here a few times and each time I get a gorgeous meal and a cappuccino which is just so delicious. However there are a few things that take away from being a 5 star: the service and the price. It's a pretty pricey spot, and there is no table service it can be a bit awkward especially if you go with friends. Also there is this one guy who is always working who always has a snobby attitude about him, hard to explain without rambling off into a novel here but you'd know who I'm talking about if you go there. He doesn't smile, and there is no warmth about him. But everyone else that works there is very nice and welcoming. Great food and drink but too expensive to justify going all the time, even if I'd like to.

Yelp
As soon as we stepped into this cozy little place in downtown Dartmouth, the staff were friendly, offering coffee during our short wait for a table. The only complaint that I'd have about the food is that everything on the menu looked so good, it was hard to decide what to order. I ended up choosing the breakfast sandwich with latke and sausage patty, and I was NOT disappointed. Flavourful and just the right size, and the soft egg on the sandwich tied all the flavours together nicely. I can't say enough good things about my experience, and will definitely be back.

Yelp
I cannot really say if food is good or not, but if their ignorance is anything to go by it would seem questionable at best. My wife and I dropped by to eat here on Saturday morning{22\12\2018} figuring we would patronize downtown Dartmouth instead of Halifax. On this morning the rain and wind was torrential at the least, we were soaking wet and the staff informed us through the doors that we would have to wait for 10 minutes before they opened. So you can see where this is going, we now have no taste for visiting downtown Dartmouth for any reason. So good luck on staying open????
