Very spacious cafe that doesn't get packed on a Wednesday morning. Coffee is very good - I got their decaf flat white. Nice place to come and do work, read, catch up with friends.

I love there coffee here super strong and wakes me up. The pastries here are also delicious and yummy. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Atmosphere feels comfortable and lovely. Overall great small coffee shop will be coming back if I in the area.

Café Grumpy has a large and very inviting indoor space. The coffee was well made, with the roast nicely balanced - not too light, not too dark.

I just love this coffee shop. They have an amazing coffee and great space to sit and enjoy it. There are a lot of spots to sit and you can actually see people working here. The pastries are good too.

Place is nice and big, plenty of seating and it’s a very chill vibe. The coffee is very average, had a 7.6 cortado that was bitter and the milk work didn’t smooth out the harshness.

Great working cafe with lots of outlets and space. There's tables right when you enter and further back. There's also a bathroom. The honey oat latte was decent; it didn't taste too different than anything I've already had. If you like sweet things, you'll enjoy it.

I came here on one of the hotter June days and man oh man it did not feel like the AC was on. There were no fans going either. It was weird. But besides these things this coffee shop is located in a quiet what seems to be a residential area and it is also near some art studios. I got an iced latte. It was a bit strong for me. The staff were nice. This place also has a whole back area with tables, outlets, a bathroom and a little bookshelf area. Great spot to get work done.

Cafe grumpy is for sure... definitely lives up to the name. No smile, subtle jabs at us ordering and coffee was yikes

I have to say the customer service has improved over the years. Quite a few of the baristas they have hired actually make an effort to say hello. Which is not always the case in Greenpoint service in general. For me I think the baked goods are the best in the neighborhood and the coffee portions are a good size. I love their almond croissant and my kids always get excited when I bring home the jelly filled donut. Only suggestion would be to open earlier on the weekends.

I didn't order anything here because I simply came to meet with someome already here, but wow, what a spacious cafe! Also, their handsoap smells incredible! Apparently it's Dial, but I would've believed it came straight from Mount Olympus.

Pricey... one size $4.25 Cold Brew, $4 pre-bottled. But worth it! LONG-lasting caffeine fix. Many of the pastries are gluten free and/or vegan and still moist af. Sometimes they're not labeled (esp for the weekday early birds coming in at 7:01am), so ask and be mindful of the contamination notice on the glass. Review of gf pastries RANKED-- Lemon Loaf $4 - Best deal. Can't go wrong. Like cake Citrus Olive Oil Bundt $5 - Smaller but more filling than the Lemon Loaf because it's suuper saturated with olive oil. ~~Read: moiiisssttt~~ Banana Walnut Muffin $3.50 - Great and also vegan! But lacking the VIP "muffin top" =(

I bought a bag of Ethiopia beans from Whole Foods. It was fresh - dated 6/3/22 - and brewed both French Press style and cold brewed with a Chemex filter. This coffee is very "flat" and does not exhibit the flavor profile described on the bag. I tried increasing the coffee to water ratio as well as the steep time and it's just not very good.

Incredible coffee. Smells so good and tastes even better. They are nice people too. Quick service to boot.

Ordered iced mocha that was approaching $7 and maybe maxed out at 12 ounces. For the rest of the day I was grumpy. Ah, ha, I get it now.

I'm down to try another Café Grumpy in another location because man, I just wasn't impressed. Maybe my brain couldn't get past the name of the coffee shop along with the vibe inside of the place. Or maybe I just stopped by at an off time. But I'll be honest... the place just kinda gave me a blah, (possibly grumpy?!) feeling. Okay, so we ordered two matcha lattes with oat milk - they deserved between a three and four star rating. On another note, apparently this location rates highly for working - I'll give them that. But, if you ask me, there are a lot more (and cooler) coffee shops within the Greenpoint and Williamsburg area... that you can work from. That's all I've got, kids. If there's one word that comes to mind for this establishment, it's... underwhelming.

Overpriced coffee that doesn't have a toaster/microwave to warm pastries. I understand that Greenpoint is rich as hell, but I feel like paying $10.15 for a cold chocolate croissant and a cookie butter latte with oat milk is... oppression. It's big, great for working/tons of co-working spaces. But ten darn dollars. There's gentrification, and then there's coercion! But the biggest turn off of this place was the playlist. They played a song by R. Kelly. R. Kelly, a known pedophile/rapist/abuser of women. In this era of #MeToo, at this hipster spot where people LOVE to be "woke," y'all didn't think it would be triggering to play R. Kelly? Y'all didn't watch the docuseries that's on Lifetime that came on yesterday? Yikes.

If you need to find a real life oxymoron then look no further than cafe grumpy. Vanessa , Nicole and Steph are the highlight of my coffee break. Bringing smiles to the neighborhood and slinging some amazing drinks. Don't sleep on their assortment of pastries as well.

Underwhelming. For a $4-5 coffee drink, the cappuccino looked and tasted similar to what I'd expect to get at a gas station. This is only an issue with this particular grumpy location - the others are great. I suspect the barista wasn't trained or didn't know how to make espresso drinks, but given that grumpy's differentiation with, say, dunkin donuts, is coffee quality, this was really disappointing. Won't come here again, and if you find yourself in greenpoint is suggest you go to odd fox or homecoming instead. Excellent coffee shops with talented baristas.

The coffee here can't be beat! Excellent cold brews. If you're as caffeine-addicted as I am, you'll love Cafe Grumpy! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is it's a bit pricey, but that's Greenpoint for ya.

I like to review coffee shoppes based on customer service and quality of drink and ive never had a negative time at this cafe grumpy, my barista leann had a great demeanour and explained every confusing named drink to me. she made great conversation and had my order done in minutes. Also the raspberry donuts were my favourite pastry and i really wish they brought them back. I always invite my friends over to this cafe over any. Thank you Leann for making me a returning customer

A coworking space is nearly $400 a month- but at grumpys with a 3.25 latte a day, I spend 97.50 a month. All jokes aside - this is where remote workers and students come and park for the whole day. As a remote worker myself, the environment feels like an office, which I find comforting, sort of like an "we're all in this together" type of feel. I highly recommend this cozy environment to come and grab some coffee and git' er done!

A lot of seating with good windows. Only had the cold brew and green ice tea so far, which were great, but excited to come more in the winter for hot drinks too. My go to spot for when I'm waiting for my loads at the laundromat a block up.

The customer service of this place is top notch. Their coffee beans are incredible. I've had many of their different flavored summertime lemonades and every single one has also been delicious. At barista was super friendly. The owners are also very nice and welcoming. This is a great café to go to. Highly recommend!

Cafe Grumpy is very spacious with lots of seating although it's pretty packed occasionally. My iced latte was good but a bit expensive at $5.25 (there's an up charge for it being iced instead of hot). Overall it was a good experience

The baristas can be pretty alienating. Not really in an overt way. Mostly by systematically refusing any gesture of human fellowship, such as "hi", or, "how are you". I guess inhospitable hospitality is appealing to some, but having high school level social anxiety insinuated into my day by moody 20/30 somethings was not exactly why I chose to go out instead of make coffee at home. I get it. No one important saw your look book during fashion week or whatever. Whatever it is, I'm sorry you don't feel great about yourself. This is Ray's Cafe!!! I had a iced latte here in the afternoon. It is spacious, lots of seats and very convenient to charge your phone or laptop. They also offer lots of books and you can read free of charge. Almost everyone was working on their computer. It was super quiet and the atmosphere made me feel like there are girls like Hannah, writing their first novel and struggling in their intimate relationships. Really nice to finally enter Ray's cafe!

Stars for having outdoor seating! Stars for homey location! Stars for amble indoor size to "work" from "home"! Stars for food and bev choices including muffins and ice tea/hot tea/chai tea and obvsss coffee! Stars for wifi! Zero stars the actual meh coffee. Not that hot, in more ways than one My cousin lovess dragging me to this place!

I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the below average customer service. It is a shame because the coffee and pastries are amazing. However the staff can be downright rude sometimes. I hesitate going in and usually go to other coffee shops because of the negative experiences I have each time. By accident I left the door open to the juice refrigerator. The barista started pointing to it and saying some verbal command of mmm mmm trying to get me to close it. Other times I go in there I give a tip and say thank you and I get no positive feedback. The name Cafe Grumpy really stands true to their name!

Most of coffee shops are very cramped and spaceless, seat next to seat, table next to table, one have to maneuver one's way onto their seat. They are pale in comparison with cafe grumpy, cafe grumpy is quite big, aside from plenty of seats( one can easily get a seat), there still got a huge space left, environment is very peaceful and quiet. Besides, Many books placed on shelf, which is very thoughtful. Ps: two giant mirrors on the wall are a bonus, for someone like me:)

Café Grumpy you are most certainly amazing, I had an incredible experience here yesterday. They have so many selections and prices are very good. Every thing is just delicious is all I can say. The team was really welcoming and service is wonderful. I just wish I lived closer so I could be a regular at Café Grumpy.

Great coffee, but on the expensive side. I loved my drink, the Grumpy Egg Nog (Cold Brew + Egg Nog), but it was $6 plus tip and tax. They do have a pretty large seating area, some in the front and more in the back. Nice spot to get some work done. Free wifi is a plus.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Brooklyn! This is their 'flagship' location in Greenpoint. Excellent coffee and drinks as you've come to expect from all things Cafe Grumpy. Baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. They take credit card via Square which is convenient. They also have an assortment of pastries and baked goods if you have the munchies. What i really love about this space is that it is HUGE - very roomy with a seating areas in front and as well as in the back with high ceilings. Plenty of seating and tables for both individuals and groups. Outlets are spread out throughout for your convenience and free WiFi is fast. Great place to enjoy a great brew or espresso drink and get work done. Don't forget to support your local business by continuing to order food and drink if you do decide to camp out for a bit. If I lived closer, I would be here all the time!

This cafe is appropriately named; the barista was very grumpy. If it was under any other title, I might be annoyed. I know people are supposed to be rude in New York or something, but this was a different kind of grumpy. So kuddos for fitting your name? Apart from the service, I think the logo is cute but the interior is drab. If grumpy is your thing, then make up for it with style. I think it could've been colored nicely with all sorts of shades of gray(just ask Drake, grays go), but instead it was boring and not well thought out. This is Brooklyn, you have to up your game. If you're going with a theme, commit. I also judge a place HARD by its cold brew. Again, this is Brooklyn, I should rarely be let down in the place where iced coffee was reincarnated into cold brew. Sadly I was. Couldn't finish it. Now I'm grumpy.

This is a great work cafe. It's huge I think it used to be a dance studio or something. I ordered hot chocolate, which I am sure is the worst thing on their menu because it literally didn't taste like chocolate or sweet at all. It could have just been a barista error, but since I really went to this place to work, whatever. It was fine. It was four dollars, but whatever.

Best place to come and do work while drinking a great pour over coffee There are spacious tables, powerpoints, wifi and the best cups of coffee I have found in New York. I spent a lot of time bumming about in coffee shops across the city and this place is by far my favorite. A bit intensely hipster but not unnerving. It is a bit of a walk to get here from the closest train station though.

This is the closest cafe to my workplace (they are conveniently wedged right between a residential area and a factory/warehousing area where my office is) but I only come here when I'm in a hurry. Main reason is the same reason I had to take off two stars in this review. 1 star: Their pricing is exorbitant and they way overcharge for the quality of the pastries and coffee they serve. To be fair, their pastries are GOOD... but not $5 for a chocolate chip cookie good; the coffee is kinda meh but it's neither watered-down nor strong and they have a refill policy, which is nice. 2nd star: Their customer service is passable but can be hit or miss. The waiting in line is also a killer sometimes and I'm usually astounded at how long it can take to get served. So that's my feedback on this cafe. It's average. Not terrible but not great either. If they could make their process a little more efficient and maybe reduce their prices just a LITTLE I would probably come here a lot more often.

Amazing coffee and better staff. This is our go to coffee. It's in the way to work and even when it isn't we make our way to them. Standard drinks are well done and their seasonal specials are fun and tasty

Go here for the cold brew or espresso - very yummy Don't go for a warm greeting and drip coffee. For some reason their cold brew and espresso are light years ahead of their drip coffee. Their water to coffee ratio or grind level for drip has been off for like a year now.

This is the perfect place to study, read, relax, reflect, etc...it.was a library coffee shop vibe... I have been going everyday for the past week and everyone that comes is very polite, are working or studying and are respectful of others (like they step outside to take a call even though its a cafe and they don't have to). I don't drink coffee so can't speak to that! The pastries are yummy! I love the brownie, and the chocolate coconut macaroon. The blueberry hibiscus tea is nice and refreshing. I love hot chocolate...tried it..It was not rich in taste, something was deff missing...but it could just be that the person who made it needs more practice... It's great for bike riders (like me)..deff lots of space to park & lock your bike! ®

Welcome to Cafe Grumpy in Greenpoint, home to the Best iced latte's, and the worst espresso. It reminds me of the bitter espresso that was served at my previous corporate job. Sharp, pungent, and disagreeable. There are some bitter foods that cleanse the body, but with these espressos from grumpy, it's more of a purge. I've had grumpy espresso before, in fact we would purchase it wholesale and make it ourselves. Must be the machine they use. It's a hot cup of asshole.

I was in Greenpoint for a gig and met my friend at Cafe Grumpy before heading over to my gig. I like the overall atmosphere of this coffee shop. There were a lot of people on their laptops working and it seemed like a chill type of coffee shop. The barista was pleasant--I got regular coffee (added almond milk and sugar) and my friend got an almond milk cappuccino. I like that they offer almond and soy milk here. The coffee is okay--it's not my favorite, but it did the job. Overall, I really like the environment of this coffee shop and I would come back if i'm in the neighborhood. I think that it gets a lot of hype though because it was featured on 'GIRLS'.

NIRVANA. OK, perhaps that's not how I would describe my experience at Cafe Grumpy, but that's definitely the band that was playing the whole time. And I like Kurt Cobain as much as the next guy. The barista woman seemed to have taken the name of the establishment to heart. She really was kind of grumpy; but not in a laughably cantankerous, vaguely lecherous Walter Matthau sort of way. More like an "It's 4 pm and I'm pissed because I have to deal with you and I still haven't had my morning coffee yet" way. And that doesn't even make sense, because she works in a coffee shop. I tipped her in an effort to cheer her up. No luck. My chai latte turned out to be nothing special, and actually a bit watery. However, I was more interested in a comfortable place to get some work done, and Grumpy was just that. I did wander into the back before I left, and it turns out that this place is deceptively large; I really didn't need to sit at a table with that other guy. He was grumpy in an "I wish this guy would shower before he sat right on top of me" way.

This place was comfortable and spacious, but I wasn't too impressed with anything else. The hot chocolate I got and the cappuccino my boyfriend got were nothing special. They tasted just about the same as at every other decent cafe or even a chain coffee place. We also got a biscotti to share, which could have been the saving grace of the place, but it seemed a old and little stale. What I really disliked about our visit was the attitude of the man at the counter. He was not friendly or nice at all when I was ordering for us or when I came back to try to order a second time to go before leaving. We did walk in at about an hour and a half before closing time, so giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he had just had a long and tiring day. Regardless, it didn't leave a good impression on me. They do have wifi which would come in handy if I had gone alone, but since I was with someone, neither of us bothered to try signing in to see if it even works, so I can't speak to that. All in all, I didn't find anything spectacular that would make me interested in coming back, especially when there are many other cafés and coffee shops around the area I have yet to explore.

I had a great experience today at Cafe Grumpy. As most of you know, Cafe Grumpy is the place of work for several characters on the HBO series hit Girls. Anyways, I got talking with the manager who's the inspiration behind the character Ray on the show. He was nice enough to tell me all about the cast and what their preferences are when they come into the cafe. He also brought me upstairs and showed me his office where the scene of Marni being fired takes place. He told me that plot was was based on a true occurrence that happened in the Cafe. He shared it with Lena and she wrote in for the following season. Check this place out if you want some good coffee some aight macaroons and are a fan of the HBO series hit Girls. If you play your cards right, the manager may give you the behind the scenes/inside scoop tour of the cafe.

Yesterday I ordered two matcha ice lattes one with a shot of espresso. The woman said we don't do that. I said why not it's espresso you make espresso just add a shot. The guy next to her then said "we don't make those drinks here" I didn't order some douchey Starbucks half caf skinny latte with a shot of hazelnut no foam for fucks sake. They need to get over themselves. Will NEVER go in again. How hipster snotty can you be. You serve fucking coffee. If you don't want to add a shot of espresso give it to someone on the side and let them do it but the " we don't make those kind of drinks here" answer is stupid. Hope the owners know that's who is running their business

I could see myself doing work here...and that's about it. Their cold brew left such a weird taste in my mouth. I usually take my iced coffee black but here I couldn't do it. Needed milk to get rid of that off taste. I don't think they're known for their iced coffee because I was the only person drinking it. I think I should've gone for an espresso based drink. I will return here! But next time ordering something else. The Internet is fast and it's a HUGE cafe. Is this the cafe brand that they used in Girls? They seem to have regulars and the baristas seem to know who they are and what they order which is always a good sign.

So expensive for the most disgusting chai tea latte I've ever drank in my life. And I've had my fair share of nasty chais lmao... I took two sips and threw it out (waste of my money) and felt too awkward to tell them I hated it/if they could fix it or make me another drink bc the baristas didn't seem like the friendliest. Usually, at a lil coffee shop corner the baristas are super sweet; but not here- but also it might be why they call it Cafe Grumpy? ‍

All drinks... no food (I don't like pastries anyway...) I have passed this place many times always saying to myself that I would go in there (kind of on an anonymous corner off the main drag of McGuiness Blvd.). Looks tiny from the outside but... surprise it extends pretty far back (and is more spacious than your would think). Concise menu, but I wasn't looking for options really, just the big ole C... coffee fix man! I ordered simple, skim latte, that's all, $5 one size fits all I suppose, it was the right size for this fit, today at least, the place is very minimal and clean, the coffee fixin' counter was spotless and sparse (not that I require much), just a splash of stevia and I was off... Good roasted flavor, nice mouthfeel, solid cup of joe, do I prefer melt your face bitter? sure... but this certainly hit the spot and at $5 I can't complain, caffeine with flavor signed, sealed, and delivered... So, later on I came back 'round the corner, this time with something else in mind, the temp had peaked up to 90 (nine-tee!), so I was in the mood for refreshment (as something on the specials menu had caught my eye earlier). Turmeric Lemonade... sounded yummy and refreshing. $7.25 for the privilege... hmmm... considering they use Newman's Own fresh out of the box this seems steep price wise (the fresh turmeric was nice however), it sure was quite refreshing and bright, so... next time I'll make that one at home... I'll come back for the coffee, that is for sure, cute place, nice space, clean and efficient in the aspects that matter to this traveler...

I love this place with all my heart. The coffee is the best and I can get work done with my laptop. It's expensive, yes, welcome New York. 3 Cons though... 1. I wished they had healthier snacks or meal options! I'm afraid they don't go for it because then we'd live here, basically. I always think that this should turn into a library space somehow. 2. If the bigger tables could have plugs around them, that'd be amazing too... 3. Would appreciate a cleaner, less smelly bathroom.

I love the Cafe Grumpy chain, but this location is my least favorite because of the rude and snobby employees behind the counter. Which is unfortunate since I live 2 blocks away. Today was different, 7/29/18 at around 4:50 PM-ish the two employees behind the counter were the best. I will now return more often hoping the previous people have been replaced. I love their Iced Oat Matcha Latte and Flat White.
