The 22 Best Seattle Cafes To Work In - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This South Lake Union cafe is all about the concept of hygge, so choose Cafe Hagen if you still want to be cozy in the middle of tech territory. Here you'll find an astroturf patio, lavender oat milk lattes, and a stress-free atmosphere made even better by the abundance of plants that you don’t even need to water." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Where To Go On A Coffee Date In Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Sure, maybe being trapped in a broken elevator sounds nicer than meeting someone in South Lake Union. But Cafe Hagen is a decent near-Downtown candidate. There are luxurious booth benches, lots of greenery, and a fancy menu of espresso concoctions to gauge whether your companion cares about good coffee or is a colossal waste of your time. Plus, they have an astroturf patio, so if it’s nice out, feel free to multitask developing a summer glow that this person might rub aloe vera on later." - aimee rizzo

⭐️⭐️ (2/5) I was so excited to finally have a new coffee shop open in Kirkland — it’s nice not to have to drive all the way to Bellevue for a good cup! The space itself is absolutely beautiful. The design is really well thought out — from the high and low tables to the cozy outdoor seating. It’s modern, inviting, and definitely adds charm to the area. That said, the experience was pretty disappointing. The prices are extremely high — even for the Eastside. I couldn’t believe I spent $16 on a turkey and bacon croissant, it was good and filling but not that good! and the latte flight I tried was honestly terrible; none of the flavors were enjoyable. What really turned me off, though, was the service. The cashier was unfriendly, and when I asked one of the employees to explain which lattes were which, he deliberately ignored me while I was sitting outside — which felt rude and unprofessional. I was really hoping this would become my daily coffee spot, especially since I walk by every day, but the staff had no warmth or personality at all. Overall, I love the location and atmosphere, but the service and drinks need serious improvement. Hopefully, as they settle in and get feedback, things will get better — because right now, it’s more of a pretty space than a good coffee experience.

Lovely place with amazing coffee! This is a genuinely serious coffee place. They have multiple pour-over options and great espresso. I had the Indonesian coffee option as a pour-over and it was absolutely delicious. Slightly fruity but not at all sour . Even still tastes good after I let it cool down! Also tried the cortado and was absolutely delicious. Pastries look amazing though haven’t tried them yet . Vibe is really nice - clean and upscale but inviting

I am so excited that Café Hagen has opened up a new location! Their pastries taste fresh full with flavor, and the croissant sandwich was well balanced. Looking forward to more trips here!

Google
I have very mixed feelings about Cafe Hagen. The pros include a very tasty red beet toast with good quality bread, though it was definitely overpriced. As for the jam waffle, it was very average. The waffle itself was the weakest part - a very small portion, but the fruit was fresh and tasty, and the whipped cream seemed homemade. I ordered a Golden Pear cappuccino, and honestly, it was one of the worst-tasting coffees I’ve had in a long time. The pear flavor was undetectable, and a very strong, strange, artificial taste was really bad. I do not recommend it. Regarding the desserts, the marble bread was okay, but the raspberry cake was awful. I rarely complain about baked goods because I love sweets, but this cake was hard to eat. I also have concerns about the cleanliness inside; the floor was very dirty, as well as the cleanliness of the silverware (the fork in the picture is after I cleaned it myself)."

I am never disappointed; their latte flavors are always consistent, in my opinion. I love their avocad toast, beet toast, and their salmon sandwich. This coffee brand has set the bar really high for my taste buds.

Coffee Hagen in Kirkland just opened a few days ago, and it’s a solid new spot. The pastries are excellent with plenty of great options. Coffee drinks are just ok - baristas might still be getting used to the rush, so hoping that improves. The interior is stylish and clean, with a cozy vibe. Seating works well for small groups (4–6), but not ideal for anything larger. No dedicated parking - just street, which is tough in downtown Kirkland. Bathrooms are shared with other shops in the back. Biggest downside (and the main reason for 4 stars) is no WiFi at all. It’s a real miss if you’re hoping to work or study here.

Google
I'm thrilled that Hagen has finally opened its doors right here in Kirkland this morning! Their staff is skilled and truly attentive. They're offering a wonderful selection of fresh, crispy, and absolutely delicious pastries, alongside eggs and salads, plus excellent coffee and lots of other tempting options – it’s a really versatile and generous menu. I think it's going to be a fantastic addition to our entire local dining community.

This place gets a five for some of the wonderful vegan options like their tofu on their lunch menu. I’d love to see some yummy chocolate vegan pastry options. I would agree with the other reviewers say this is not really a Scandinavian style. It felt a bit more California meets Northwest. It’s a very happening spot if you want action and energy, but not too loud. It works. If you want very quiet and not to be part of the sea scene, I would go to the café just to the north on the street. Sano I’ll do more of an update as I explore their menu and put more photos. I’m really happy that it’s here and I’m so grateful for having menu options for all different types of eaters. The coffee options look great, and they make their own cardamom and chai mixes.

Yelp
CAFE HAGEN @ KIRKLAND Parking is street parking only, but it fills up pretty quickly. I highly recommend parking in their lot (it does cost you) or looking for free street parking along the lake, which is the same street the café is on. My friend and I stumbled upon this place while walking by, and the outside instantly caught our eye. It was so cute, the patio, the tables, the whole vibe. Inside, it was modern, clean, and really welcoming, so we had to check it out. They had a menu posted right outside, which I appreciated, and they offered a solid variety of coffees, food items, and all the usual bakery and café staples. We ended up just getting two vanilla iced lattes, which came out to $16. I tipped 25%, so it was around $19 total for both drinks. We were given a number, picked any seat we wanted, and sat in one of the booth areas. It was busy, but you could still find seating inside or outside. One of the staff brought out only one drink, and about 10 minutes later we realized the other latte had been sitting on the counter melting. No worries, I just grabbed it myself. It was a little watered down, but the flavor was still really good. It wasn't overly sweet, they didn't overload it with ice, and it was served in a nice glass cup since we dined in. I really loved how modern and cozy this café was. It felt like the perfect spot to grab a coffee or a pastry and work on my laptop. Even though there were a lot of people, the noise was just light background chatter. The staff was friendly, the ambiance was super nice, and overall I had a great experience. I'd definitely come back next time and try the food.

Yelp
Overall, it was just okay -- the food and coffee were both decent. However, as someone quite familiar with Danish design and culture, I found the experience a bit lacking in authenticity. The food had some Danish touches, but the ambiance was far from hygge. The loud music and flashy, contemporary (non-Nordic) design made it feel more bling than cozy. For a more genuinely hygge vibe, Truline, Zoka, or Sana next door do it much better.

Yelp
Really nice large pastries and the coffee is good. I'm happy to have Hagen especially as downtown lost Starbucks as a place to grab some carbs and coffee and walk around Kirkland. I must say that the music is quite strange and loud. Feels club vibe and when I look around the clientele is not club clientele. Despite the noise issues, I like Hagen and I wish them well.

Yelp
Lovely modern-chic Scandinavian cafe right by HeyDay in downtown kirkland. We were a party of 4 and came in for brunch on a Thursday but sadly couldn't find any indoor seating. It was super packed - understandable considering the time of day. Thankfully the weather was acceptable and we sat outside. Service was good. The coffees were excellent! And a favorite at our table was the almond croissant I'm gluten free and it would have been helpful if items on the menu were labeled. I asked if the avocado chicken salad was gf and it turns out that the dressing contains soy sauce which is a no-no, so they said they could sub the dressing to another one that doesn't contain soy but that's a little spicy. I said that was fine...Unfortunately though it wasn't a little spicy it was very spicy (at least for me and I typically have no problem with spicy food), so truthfully I didn't get to enjoy my salad or finish it. For anyone that can't tolerate spicy food, ask for the almonds to be removed. Nice place, check it out!

Yelp
IF YOU LOVE PASTRIES, LIKE THEY HAVE IN EUROPE, YOU MUST COME THRU TO CAFE HAGEN. I've loved Cafe Hagen since they opened their bellevue location. Makes me so happy that they opened one up here in DT Kirkland. Go to is a Croissant, Vanilla Latte, and any of their breakfast options are 10/10. No joke. And if you feeling European, get a croissant and dip it in your latte! Life Hack unlocked lol.

Yelp
Loved this brand new spot! There is ample seating both indoors and outdoors, and the decor was clean and cute. I went during their first week - other than a slight hitch in a menu item name, everything went seamlessly, and service was super friendly. I got a matcha latte and the brunch board. The latte art was so pretty! The macadamia milk they use is pre-sweetened so the drink was a little too sweet for me even though I got no additional sweetener - just a personal preference. The brunch board was huge, and everything tasted super fresh and homemade. Loved the variety of items included, and I especially loved that they give you a (perfectly ripe) avocado + the mini waffle and cream was a lovely way to end the meal. Parking is not too difficult if you don't mind parking a little further away. Looking forward to trying some of their pastries next time!

Yelp
OMG THEY OPENED!! Guys this place is so cute!! I love it when cafe/restaurants put effort into their locations and this one is a beauty lots of comfy seating. I'm just gonna say, love that their music isn't insanely load sorry sorry I digress I am a big fan of their Bellevue locations so I've been waiting on pins and needles for this place to open. I had the marble cake an absolute favorite of mine and my husband had the cheesecake and two half caf lattes everything was on point! So excited to come to this place all the time now, they know what they're doing. They don't have parking so just know that but the staff is awesome and super friendly

Yelp
They forgot my food for awhile and when it came they forgot the bacon but the restaurant is super cute and the pastries looked amazing. I would redesign the positioning of the line to order though because it blocks the bathroom. Pretty uncomfortable trying to squeeze through people in line.

Yelp
A wonderful, cozy, and elegant place like this with great food should have WiFi available to customers. When I asked, one of the workers said there is no WiFi and he wasn't that friendly either. It wouldn't be so bad, except the cell signal inside the cafe is practically nonexistent. There should be WiFi so that this place can call itself a true cafe.

Yelp
Really great place! Matcha was perfection. Service was helpful and fantastic location!

Yelp
Cafe Hagen is all the things you want out of a good coffee shop. Good coffee, good pastries, and a beautiful interior with space to sit. They even have great food options. Love the bellevue one and was very glad to hear they were expanding to Kirkland. My only critique would be a better solution for parking since DT Kirkland is pretty wild.

Yelp
Can't give it 5 stars because it's a coffee shop without wifi! It would be a great place to work and grab a delicious coffee or baked good otherwise. Nice, relaxing ambience.

Janelle R.

Yelp
I go to the Bellevue location whenever I can squeeze time in my busy schedule for, and boy I jumped out of my seat when I heard they were opening in downtown Kirkland! The ambiance is unmatched, incredibly photo worthy!! Music is a little loud but outdoor seating is available! Almond croissant is my go toooo!

Pao L.

Yelp
Great location and great atmosphere. The pastries are good. A few things I have a problem with: (1) No WiFi and cellphone reception is terrible. So it makes it difficult to even browse on your phone inside. This is the reason I take my stuff to go. (2) The avocado toast is quite bad. The "toast" is a soft and thick multigrain slice which seems barely toasted. The avocado mix is pretty much tasteless. It's probably one of the worst avocado toasts I've ever had. Literally the one at Nordstrom E-bar in Bellevue square mall is better.
