The Best Hot Chocolates in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Beyond some solid coffee options, ideal for the mainly student crowd around McGill, this intimate café offers a luscious and creamy hot chocolate. Mast Brothers, the producers who provide the chocolate, source their materials sustainably and with a minimum of packaging. The café is a small place but well-loved, and has a vibrant, engaging atmosphere. There’s another location around the corner on McGill College, too." - Karin Murray-Bergquist

Fresh out of the oven, the scones are excellent—warm, flaky, and full of flavor. The coffee is pretty solid too, making it a nice spot for a quick pick-me-up.

It was good, but something was off about this place. Maybe the limited food options. Otherwise, the maple latte was nice. Felt kind of humbled at the humble lion..

This cute cafe in the heart of downtown Montreal has comfortable seating and a lovely window view to take your time to enjoy your coffee and snacks. The staff were super nice and efficient. There is a coffee menu with varied options. The cortado was excellent and velvety. I'm super curious about the maple latte so I'll be back for sure. Although I did some patrons working at the tables, the space is small and there were no visible outlets so it's really a place designed for sitting for 1 or 2 and enjoying the experience.

Cute coffee shop in the middle of the hectic Downtown. These kind of places remind me of why it’s important to not only go to places like Starbucks. There are amazing small coffee shops all around, waiting for you! The coffee here was delicious and the barista was very nice and made me feel welcomed to stay. I wanted to work so I stayed long and there was no problem. I recommend (like he did me) the Maple Latte and also I loved the Oatmeal Cookie!
So good I almost ate it before the photo haha For those remote workers like me, the internet here was good: 30mbps aprox., considering there was almost 10 people more inside maybe using it.

Here is definitely good coffee, lovely espresso and nice interior. Great harmony for your well deserved relax in the middle of the city. The service was nice, everything was prepared quickly, there was no problem with anything. There is enough space to sit. I can definitely recommend this place.

Terrible experience. The barista was rude. First the attitude when telling me to go to the cashier where I’ll be served (the tone super rude). We asked for the wifi to be fixed, and when she was asked again, her response was “if it’s not working I can’t do anything for you, I have a lineup here” and continued making coffee. I wouldn’t be surprised this coming out of racism. Definitely not recommended and surely not coming back.

Café Humble in Montreal is truly a gem in the city’s vibrant culinary scene. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that exudes a sense of community. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready with a recommendation or a friendly chat. The coffee? Simply sublime. Whether you’re looking for a cozy spot to read and relax or a lively place to meet friends, Humble Cafe has got you covered. A must-visit when you’re in Montreal!

Chill vibes guaranteed in this downtown spot. Pre and post pandemic favourite spot. Great service: very professional and good energy from barista. Served a delicious & well prepared oat latté. Perfectly balanced espresso: no surprise as they serve specialty coffee from Traffic Roasters. The espresso blend they serve on bar is Renaissance.

Yelp
The place isn't terrible with decent coffee drinks. Service could be better. Location is prime for McGill students.

Yelp
It was okay- nothing out of ordinary. They had limited selection for pastries, good coffee, free wifi. Strange- I expected them to have a variety competing with business around, and amazing service. I had a scone( chives, cheddar cheese), they didn't offer to warm it up so it was a little odd eating cold savory scone with good coffee.

Yelp
Tried the matcha latte, was good but had better elsewhere. Maybe the portion too large for medium so matcha taste diluted. My colleague had a cortado and found it very good though.

Yelp
Time for a Coffee! Cafe Humble Lion is conveniently located a couple of minute walk from our hotel. I love the decor. Clean, modern and chic. The high windows at the storefront is perfect for people watching and allow for some dose of Vitamin D while sipping my coffee. Sadly, the drinks we ordered: Cortado and Allonge were a little too fruity for my taste but it is personal preference.

Yelp
For those coffee addicts that want to escape the big coffee chains that you find a everywhere downtown, I would recommend the Humble Lion. Small and cozy, the Humble Lion offers a good selection of coffee and tea prepared with care and love. The staff is friendly and will gladly bring your order to your table. For those who are looking to encourage a small business, I wholeheartedly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Service is bare minimum , coffee too acidic , music too loud , don't go here with a friend to chat you need to shout to hear each other

Yelp
I had the worlds rarest coffee (Black Ivory) last week at The Ritz Carlton in Toronto and then came to Humble Lion this week with a friend. Humble Lion was better. Also humble brag I was at the ritz... They had this long Guatemala Espresso from Monogram Roaster that was unreal. Great cafe. I love it.

Yelp
Just stopped by for a hot drink. Nicely located in the heart of Montreal downtown. It's a small place. The seats are so tight; like bell center, you are sitting beside a stranger way too close. Compared to any coffeeshop that I have been, their menu is super limited. Service is slow, my chai latter came to me very late. My chai latte was all foam. That was really disappointing. The decor of this place was missing color and personality.

Yelp
Live this little gem walking by looking for breakfast. Delicious Americanos and the blueberry scones - divine

Yelp
The owner was a delight to chat with when deciding what to order. I had the maple latte and I could not have been happier. The espresso was the star but the maple couldn't been more delightful. Loved it! Very small location seemed to be a local hot spot rather than tourist which was nice

Yelp
Stopped in for some java during a late afternoon errand run, and I can officially say that this is my fave spot for a good latte in all of downtown! The service was super friendly and the space is clean and quiet, although quite cosy, but the coffee is great! Choice of plant based milks at no extrra cost either! They also had some delicious looking scones but I just had to resist. Next time?!

Yelp
Great tasting coffee, I recommended it to my friends. But drinks are ridiculously small considering they're not on the cheap side. Not an ideal place to sit down and quietly enjoy your coffee. This place gets very busy weekdays during business hours.

Yelp
I went to Humble Lion on a rainy day and it was a bit cold inside, the tables are small, but I was stunned by the latte fort (strong latte that has a higher dose of coffee compared to traditional latte, I LOVE IT!! The decor is simple but nice, the staff usually open the door in summer, and it is super relaxing. To study there, avoid after lunch because it can get crazy and super loud!

Yelp
First of all they ran out of chocolate for mochas and it was only 11am .The place is super small and awkwardly spaced. There is no WIFI either. The coffee tastes really good .However for this price and location, there is much better around like Myriade or the Humble Lion on Sherbrooke street .

Yelp
Great little coffee spot in the heart of downtown ! Their cold brew and their latte fort (which is essentially a latte with less milk and more coffee) are my go to choices. They do have some seating inside but it isn't your typical cozy little cafe where people take a date or sit for an hour and chat, in keeping with the fast paced downtown area it's located in , it is more a place to grab your coffee and go. That being said the service is still always attentive and friendly and the coffee quality is there. They also sell some house made pastries which look great but I haven't tried them yet! The pricing is reasonable given the quality of the coffee (not more expensive than Starbucks or second cup). I'm happy we discovered this place and I'll definitely be getting my caffeine fix here more often !
