The Best Cafes in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Gamba sources quality beans from the likes of Café Saint-Henri, Intelligentsia, Detour, 49th Parallel, and others. The interior is meant to make you feel at home in your friend’s Mile End apartment — think minimalist art prints, lots of pothos plants, and big, comfy couches — and it works. Their newest location on St-Viateur opened in late 2019." - Daniel Bromberg

As a lesser known branch of one of Montreal's first fourth wave coffee shops, Cafe in Gamba features outstanding, high-quality coffee in a cozy, not-too-crowded space. The coffee is phenomenal -- it's rich, smooth, slightly nutty, and not overly acidic. The baristas are remarkably friendly (and very willing to practice French, for those who are trying to build up their French vocabulary :)), and I love the variety of indoor and outdoor seating. The front windows open into the outdoors, and there's also a lovely patio area with open benches right next to the park. Can't wait to come back!

This café offers a pleasant ambiance with beautiful outdoor seating under pergolas. However, my espresso lungo was served in a big cup and it lacked the expected richness. My wife's iced matcha latte fell flat.

The cafe in itself is super cute! Has lots of light and an overall nice vibe. However, the seats aren’t ( apart the couch) the most comfortable as they are little cushion seats with no support whatsoever. Also the table is so small you can barely place two drinks plus some food. The food and matcha latte were pretty good highly recommend! Service was good! Overall a good cafe to stop by if for a chat or a quick work but not the best for a long stay as they have no charging ports or super comfortable seating.

Solid coffee. Staff are always friendly. Ample indoor seating and lovely outside terrace in the warmer months. Can be very busy at times but still a great place to grab a quick coffee or sit and work for a couple hours.

I recently visited Café In Gamba and had a wonderful time! We ordered a latte and a matcha, both of which were delicious and well-prepared. We also tried their biscotti, brownie, and a vegan panini—all of which were absolutely delightful and added to the overall experience. The service was fast, and the staff were polite, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The café itself is beautifully decorated, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There’s plenty of seating, and the place was spotless, which is always a plus. That said, I did notice that the tables attached to the benches are quite small—perfect for one person but a bit tight for two, especially if you’re ordering food along with your drinks. It might be a bit challenging to fit everything comfortably. Despite this minor issue, I absolutely loved my visit and will definitely be returning. I can imagine this place being even more enjoyable during the summer months, as they have a garage door that lets in plenty of fresh air, creating a lovely open and breezy vibe. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing coffee break and some tasty treats!

I’m not sure how this place has amazing ratings but the coffee sucks! If you’re looking for a good cup of coffee, don’t even bother going here. The atmosphere and the sweet treats on the other hand are pretty good… But the coffee alone is not worth the visit.

15 dollars for a latte, a croissant and a chocolatine. The coffre was good but the food was truly awful, couldn't finish it. There are places in the same street where I pay half the price for much better quality. I don't understand the hype.

Such a chill vibe. You can only work on wifi for 90 minutes. It's not the fastest either but the place is comfy and aesthetically pleasing. They have a couch, outdoor patio, bar table, seated tables as well. Literally something for all. The coffee is ok, not the best but ok. Also tried the vegan doubke chocolate chip muffin and it was a debit dense and too creamy for me. Prefer more bready, crumbly muffin. Was also a bit pricey. The decaf Soy latte with chai cost CAD$8. Not cool. Lol.
