13 Must-Try Desserts in Nashville

"Escape the hustle and bustle of American urban life inside this dignified European coffeehouse located in SoBro. The bakery here offers over 23 different cakes and cheesecakes, making it difficult to choose just one, but the Oreo cookie crust cheesecake is a local favorite. The dessert is infused with coffee, Kahlua, and orange, and wrapped in layers of dark chocolate ganache and house-made chocolate buttercream. On top: a sprinkling of tiny white chocolate discs." - Clara Wang, Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Cafe Intermezzo is an absolute gem in Nashville, truly transporting you to a sophisticated European cafe experience! ☕✨ The food is beyond delicious; it's decadent and delightful. I especially loved the Smoked Salmon Benedict, which was perfectly prepared and incredibly flavorful. Paired with a calming Egyptian Chamomile tea 🍵, it was the ideal escape. This spot is perfect for anyone seeking a taste of European elegance and exceptional quality right in the heart of the city. Highly recommend! 💖🍳

From when we walked in the door we felt like everyone really enjoyed working here. Friendly, great chefs that had smiles on their faces. The food was tastefully prepared, good portion sizes. Bartenders were amazing, they know their cocktails.

Google
I love the inside of the place and the historic details and design. I tried this place and I was impressed with the food and the friendliness of the staff and being greeted. The wait was reasonable for my party of 2. Parking can be a struggle, but hey it is in downtown area although there are plenty side street and public parking garages. Oh and I absolutely loved my cocktail! 😊

Celebrating my achievement of becoming an master reviewer on Google!!! I did it at Cafe Intermezzo!!! What a beautiful European feel cafe in the heart of Nashville. We went there with our dear friends and had a wonderful time. The whole experience was fantastic. We started with Hot Chocolate Deluxe. Fantastic!! Then we had the bruschetta to start dinner of. It was great and was fully covered with a great balsamic vinaigrette. My wife and I split the French dip. It was great and came with crispy and creamy fried potatoes. We then finished off the dinner with just one of the amazing desserts. We chose the key lime cheesecake. It was delicious. We paired it with a Cuban coffee and a chocolate martini. What a wonderful meal. Cafe Intermezzo will be one of our go tos when feel like a European return without having to hop on a flight! Well done!!!

Google
This was wonderful brunch. All of our groups food was top notch. Everything made fresh and tasted amazing. My kid said “this is the best waffle I have ever had”, so they got that going for them. Staff was super friendly and very attentive to food allergies and preferences.

Google
Cafe Intermezzo is a must-visit in Nashville! A beautifully decorated cafe with equally amazing food to go with! The hummus, the French toast, the latte - all were absolutely delicious! Hope to visit again some day!

Google
Café Intermezzo is a fantastic spot for brunch or simply indulging in dessert. Their coffee selection is exceptional, from rich Turkish coffee to smooth French press brews. Their hot chocolate looks absolutely delicious. The food is consistently fresh & excellent—eggs are always poached to perfection, and the Hollandaise sauce is spot on. The staff is warm and welcoming, The prices are reasonable. Highly recommended! 💯

We just stopped in for a dessert and coffee. We ordered the Chocolate Hazelnut Torte and it was delicious.😋 All of the desserts looked amazing and it's hard to choose just one! 🍰

Yelp
Food The good: I had the open faced croissant sandwich and it was delightful. The true star was the rosemary potatoes... I could eat them by the pound. We also had the French press coffee which was just what we needed the morning after a long night out in Nashville. I had the Key Lime cheesecake afterwards and I would eat that by the ton if I was physically capable. My wife had the vegan raspberry mousse and loved it! The bad: Nothing bad to say about this place! Service The good: Our server was very friendly and super responsive. Everyone in the place seemed happy to be there. The bad: Nothing bad about the service here! Ambiance: This was a well adorned cafe off broadway. It was clean and laid back.

Yelp
A group of colleagues went in to Cafe Intermezzo to get to go coffees before our concert. right off the bat, the manager came to us and said they could only seat 8 folks together and if we had more, they can't accommodate. I said we were only getting to go orders. At which point the manager said, 'You have a party of 8. We automatically surcharge a 20% fee for large groups." I replied, "we are all paying separately and not a party of 8, we just know each other." The manager was quite rude and said that was what they would do. I said I would leave and then there would only be 7...she then said, 'doesn't matter. We're charging the upcharge 20% for your party whatever size.' At which point, I had already ordered a coffee...which was priced at 4.50. My bill was charged $5.46. She upcharged the two of us who stayed and had ordered coffees...to go. And I wasn't even given what I had ordered. LOUSY customer service. LOUSY attitude by whom I assumed was the manager as she dictated to the others what to do. To be upcharged 20% was a theft from me. I will NEVER EVER go back to this cafe. Rude service, upcharging when it was not necessary. I can understand if we had taken a table for there to be an additional 20% fee. But for 2 folks...all the other folks left. And another group of 6 colleagues was on their way in to order to go coffees when they stopped them and told about the upcharge and the crappy attitude. So the business lost customers-forever. We were not a bridal woop woop party. We were all playing at Symphony Hall for a concert. The coffee was not good. The service was horrendously bad. The attitude of righteous condensation and dictorial manner of the manager-absolutely uncalled for. Our group are all of a demographic who tips, who understands about service workers. I'd like to say shame on the manager for ruining an outing for us to get coffee, but whatever. this is my only recourse. Oh...I paid the bill and tipped on top of it anyways. Recommend if you want to go coffee with anyone more than yourself, be prepared for some baloney rationale and attitude to the female manager. Don't know her name...we were in there Sunday 10/20/24 at 5:25pm. And now I'll never think of this place again, no ever spend another penny there. And to think this place was highly recommended...not by me, definitely not by me!

Yelp
Desperate for my morning coffee stopped into this local café. It feels as a French fill, but I'm not sure if it is, but the ambience is nice. Is quiet on Friday morning however staff are not smiling. . The cheesecake selection is a word I can't describe because I love cheesecake so much, but it opulent comes to mind.

Yelp
Lovely experience and food! 8/10! Michael was our server and he was so kind and attentive. The food and coffee surpassed our expectations! It's a beautiful little spot with a French/euro vibe and great people watching from the window seats! Not seen was the florentine crepe which was consumed QUICKLY and definitely craveable.

Yelp
Holy crap this was the BEST eats I had on my most recent Nashville trip!! They have an insanely large variety of coffee options to start, both normal selection as well as some that you might never see at most coffee shops - turkish coffee made in the old fashioned way, and an insane number of alcoholic coffee options. It took me quite a while to settle on the alcoholic coffee: "Cappucino la scala" - cappuccino italiano with chocolate and almond liquer. It comes with the alcohol on the side because the waitress explained that they are quite proud of their coffee there... and LET ME TELL YOU. My first sip of that cappuccino and I immediately understood what she meant - it was the best coffee I've had in FOREVER. Perfectly balanced and left me wanting for more. The liquer was also quite tasty to sip, but I did add it into my coffee towards the end. 10/10!! For brunch item, I ordered the egg white omelette and swapped the goat cheese for swiss. It was absolutely delicious!!! All the ingredients tasted extra good, I was shocked but definitely think Nashville has an upper hand when it comes to brunch compared to Los Angeles. 9.5/10! For dessert, we ordered the frutti di bosco, 11/10! It was actually the highlight of the meal if you can believe it - a shortbread pastry base filled with Chantilly cream.... Just so light and perfectly tasty without being too sweet. 100% dreamed of having another slice the days after. If you're in Nashville and looking for breakrfast/brunch, look no further. This is absolutely the best in town. PS the service was also so so friendly, I loved the vibes in this restaurant!

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Reasonable prices. Good service. Food was delicious. Great place for a special occasion

Yelp
Absolutely love the coffee, food and feel of this place. Great option for coffee in Nashville. Stopped by here after our hotel coffee failed us. Its a nice cafe with sit down tables, a small bar area and of course carry out. They have a selection of food as well as a display full of cake. They have a pretty large variety of coffee drinks. I personally loved the coffee. It was rich and tasty. The cakes looked good and we ended up trying one of the chocolate cheesecake options. It worked! We didn't manage to try anything off the menu because we were there for coffee and sweets but overall this place is great.

Yelp
We visited this cafe with European decor on a Sunday afternoon. The cafe wasn't too busy considering it is located quite close to Broadway. The service was very quick and the team was very warm. We ordered coffee from Alpine, and I must say I have tried coffee at plenty of places in the city, but the coffee that I ordered was amazing. Cafe Intermezzo is a must-visit for people who are coffee and or hot chocolate enthusiasts like me!

Yelp
After debating between breakfast and lunch, I settled on the Mediterranean veggie wrap, which was served on soft, warm naan bread and filled with a delicious hummus mushroom tapenade paired with fresh tomato slices and spinach leaves along with goat cheese (I went with feta cheese instead) and artichoke. The end result was a refreshing and flavorful wrap that wasn't too filling -- a perfect lunch entree. I chose a side of strawberries, which complemented the wrap wonderfully. The service was great and I really enjoyed the eclectic decor inside. I look forward to returning to explore more of the expansive menu (including the cheesecakes!).

Yelp
What an amazing restaurant oh my God is all I can say from entering this place. You just feel like it's a very beautiful atmosphere. It's calming the food smell really good. You're able to see the chefs cook right there. It was amazing experience. The staff was amazing. Our waiter was really really nice and was able to get our food to us very quickly. We came here for breakfast and what can I say? This place was really good. I would return to this place 1000 more times if I was in the area you cannot go wrong. The only thing that I was sad about was for dessert I wanted cookies and cream cheesecake and they did not have any and I wanted some so bad it broke my heart but other than that I give this place 10 out of 10. Just to give you guys a heads up this restaurant is a cashless restaurant only cards is accepted.

Yelp
We stopped by here on a weekend before a show at the Amphitheater & it turned out to be a great choice! Inside is a super cute cafe; they have a bar area and a to go counter and pastry/cake display. We opted to dine in and were seated right away. I got the Bruschetta ($9) to start. It was really good! Lots of great flavors and plenty of bread. And, although it's summer, I was soooo happy they still had a soup of the day & got the Red Pepper Gouda ($10) for my main. Loved this, too! The food came out pretty fast, as well, so I'm happy we ended up here before our show. Next time I'll have to try one of their old school cocktails!

Yelp
It was right next to our stay! It's so cute inside! The details from the ceiling to the walls are absolutely stunning! I came once for dinner & once to stop by & try the dessert and coffee. The baked Brie was absolutely delicious! The food was also really good & the service was not too bad. We thought because we went later in the day and it was quieter the service would be better but it's all good. The coffee was so yummy & so was the dessert! Overall enjoyed it & recommend.

Yelp
Stopped here as Broadway wasn't quite our scene... Hot chocolate and espresso were incredible. The hot chocolate was super rich and is best for sharing. The espresso with whipped cream and chocolate chips was a perfect night-time pick me up! The cheesecakes and other deserts also looked delicious.

Yelp
We stayed in the same building as the restaurant and we didn't want to go far for dinner so decided to check it out. It was 6 pm and the restaurant only had 2 parties of 2 in the entire place. Made me wonder if I was making a poor choice. Pretty atmosphere...candlelit, white linen tablecloths and a European feel. I had 2 different espresso martinis and split a bruschetta appetizer, Caesar salad and Spicy Tri-Color Tortellini meal with my husband. Really enjoyed the meal but would have preferred the app to be served before, not with, the salad (I didn't think to ask in advance and the server didn't ask us) but everything was very good. We added chicken to our pasta dish, which was grilled, and really added to the meal. The service was just okay. Had to wait to start on our salad, anyway, as we wanted pepper and could not catch our server's attention, for anything. Ended up stopping another employee to get us some salt and pepper (they do not leave it on the table). Overall, it was a good experience and we would dine here again.

Yelp
I had a pleasant experience at Cafe Intermezzo recently. Our waitress, Brooke, was attentive and provided good service throughout our meal. I tried the American omelet and avocado toast, both of which were well-prepared and flavorful. The caramel latte was enjoyable, but the standout for me was the Cafe Intermezzo latte, which had a delicious almond flavor that I can see myself craving in the future. Overall, it was a nice visit, and I would recommend it to others looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a meal.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant during our trip! The ambiance was relaxing and the waiter was very nice. We tried a few different breakfast dishes - the waffles, crepes, avocado toast, and the salmon benedict. Everything was amazing and we will definitely keep this on the list for next time!
google avatar

Teri W.

Yelp
Crouque monsurier was amazing. The Bechmel sauce was best I have ever had. The rosemary potatoes were so flavorful I didn't need any other seasonings or condiments. Service and ambience added to an already amazing dining experience for brunch
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent coffee and European-style ambience at this little cafe in downtown. They have a variety of desserts and dishes to pair with your unique coffee drink. Do yourself a huge favor and get the Cappuccino Gianduja.. amazing drink with a hazelnut spread rim that melts into the coffee as you drink it. Absolutely amazing beverage! I went back for it three times in four days. All the servers are extremely friendly and helpful. We had a delightful experience and recommend stopping by when you're in town.

Jaci F.

Yelp
This is your place for excellent quality food without the price tag. On a girls trip we decided to try this cafe for breakfast and were thoroughly impressed. We ended up coming back for dinner as we were not looking for bbq and did not want the heavy feeling. Again, food was amazing! This is a hidden gem that would not come up on our search's for food. Service was excellent. Drinks were good. I loved the ambiance.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
By far my favorite after dinner spot in Nashville. Their tiramisu is top tier and their espresso martinis are the perfect pair! There is also another drink named after someone that is similar that I forgot the name of but it is so good as well with the sweets. The vibe is a cool feel and it almost feels like you are in Europe. Our last server was so kind and friendly. Will keep coming back here for sure.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
Went for a night cap on a Saturday night. The service was bad and they weren't busy and weren't helpful after asking help understanding the drink and desserts. Espresso martini was average. Very quiet romantic France like ambiance.
google avatar

Connor S.

Yelp
We went for dessert and it was fabulous. The expresso martini is one of the best we've ever had, the chocolate chip cheesecake is to die for and the tart was smooth and light. The service was very kind and welcoming and the ambiance was a slow moving cafe vibe to enjoy time with friends!
google avatar

Priscilla L.

Yelp
Delicious coffee for real coffee drinkers! Their Tortellini dish was so GOOD & the spice was tasty and has a kick! I added the sausage and it was cooked to perfection. I snagged a seat at the bar and it was nice and cozy. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
What a cool place to go for food and classic desserts! Ambiance was insanely intimate and cozy. It truly looked like a French bistro in the middle of Nashville. I'm such a fan! I'll be back!
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
The French press coffee and the croque monsieur was incredible!!! The service was top tier. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Darcy D.

Yelp
This little restaurant has great decor, nice staff, and good food! There was no line to get in when we got here on Saturday morning around 10am. I had the croque monsieur and a latte. It was very rich, but good! Great place for a nice brunch without a line.
google avatar

Anika R.

Yelp
The 5 stars are purely for the cheesecake. Don't go here expecting quality service or food, only go for the cheesecake. I have loved Cafe Intermezzo from my days in Atlanta and I was so excited to hear they were opening a location in Nashville. I have been to the Atlanta location many times, unfortunately, the Nashville one doesn't compare in selection. But they still do have some excellent cakes and cheesecakes. My favorites are the Black and White cake, Tiramisu Cheesecake and White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. I also love the Carrot Cake Cheesecake but I haven't seen it at this location yet. Their cheesecakes are so rich and dense... my tastebuds have never been happier! The service here is always a little slow. Even ordering cake to-go takes a long time, but it's worth the wait. At $12 per slice, the price is hefty for what you get... but tbh, I'm still going to continue to go back. This location is in downtown so parking can be challenging so plan accordingly.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
Beautiful little place to get late night coffee and cheesecake. Ambiance was perfect, could have stayed there for hours. Highly recommend, especially for a nice ending to the evening.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious breakfast and amazing service. Our waiter liked to sing the orders LOL that was great
google avatar

Cory C.

Yelp
Loved Cafe Intermezzo!! Tons of cakes/pies from out of the country! All delicious. I ordered the French toast and bacon as a side! It was amazing. Their Coffee is freshly made and tons of flavor. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Lastly those were the cleanest bathrooms I've ever been in.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in to try the hot chocolate and the desserts for a simple wintertime date night. The wife and I sat at the bar and were blown away by the beautiful atmosphere and the most spectacular service we've had. The food and drink were fantastic and we can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!

Arianella M.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! I get the tomato basil pasta without cheese and it's so good. I am going to start taking myself on dates here more often. The ambiance is amazing, cozy, and romantic. The food, coffee, and dessert is so delicious. The male host is always there when I go and he is absolutely incredible! The best host hands down. The servers are always kind and eager to help.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Fantastic little bistro with a good amount of options for everyone. Everything was great from start to finish. I'm a big tiramisu fan -- they import theirs from Milan. We went here for brunch and it was perfect to order a few things and share.
google avatar

Paul O.

Yelp
Andrea was super efficient and friendly. The omelet was great! Fluffy and seasoned just enough, no salt, pepper or condiments needed. More places can learn on how to cook omelets from here. The house coffee was presented nicely in a silver pot, quite classical and classy... LOL

Stella T.

Yelp
This has been one of my favorite spots since moving here! Always a great atmosphere, great food, good prices. Would not skip this place!

Lynsey R.

Yelp
We popped in for an appetizer-it was so yummy and the service was wonderful. The ambiance is quiet and romantic, it's a small, cute cafe.
google avatar

Yelp
Cafe Intermezzo is a beautiful slice of heaven. This place takes you to a quaint European style breakfast with coffee options for days! The coffee here was amazing as well as the the service. I revisit every chance I can and would now take my 7 year old daughter to experience this with me!
google avatar

Yelp
So first things first I do love this place solely for the food and coffee. The food and drinks are good although does move at a very slow pace. I live in the building attached to the cafe and am very much so a regular. Every time I have people in town I take them here for an espresso martini. However the last time I was in there my boyfriend and I walked up to the bar and was immediately rudely approached by who I assume was the manager that told us we couldn't get a drink unless we were both sitting at the bar and said that it was a rule? We both work downtown in the industry so we had never heard of this. So apparently you cannot stand and order a drink? You are a location downtown Nashville and have 6 bar seats what do you expect ? There was only one seat left so my boyfriend let me sit in it. I was told he wouldn't be served until he was sitting. Fast forward to a week later we tried to go in there again this time the bartender was rude about one of their girls "not getting served" (mind you there was only ONE other customer in the whole place) until she sat down we got up and left again. I have brought a lot of people and business to this place and unfortunately from the attitude of the manager, certain bartenders and the new "rule" we will be finding other places to spend our time and money and I'll not recommend this place to others anymore.

Yelp
Food and coffee are so tasty we stay airbnb next to this place gotta stay the best coffee and they have the alcohol coffee too
google avatar

Yelp
Fabulous stop for Sunday Brunch. The service was fabulous and the food was very good!
google avatar

Dylan P.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I've been seeing this cafe on my suggested places to visit recently but was always overlooking it. Glad we decided to go. You don't really feel like you are in Nashville which can be a nice little getaway from the craziness of what Nashville has become. You will feel like you are relaxing in Europe.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Super good coffee and a great selection! I loved my latte it was one of the best lattes i've ever had. I recommend their coffee highly! super pretty inside too and their cakes looked delicious
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Our gang of four stopped in Café Intermezzo for mid-afternoon drinks and desserts. Amaretto White Chocolate and Heavenly Lemon Torte desserts were delicious, fresh, and high quality. Cozy. Inviting. Warm decor. Friendly service. Block from Cumberland River. While a limited bourbon menu...though suspect patrons don't come here first for their bourbon...we sampled a delightful maple-wood finished bourbon from Company Distilling (TN). You can also find this craft bourbon at TotalWine. Small Gripe: Was surprised that the bar was out of vermouth...so drank our nicely chilled martinis with straight gin. Like KFC running out of chicken.

Yelp
Relaxed restaurant in Nashville where we only had to wait twenty minutes during peak brunch hours. I had the Belgian waffles with banana and candied walnuts, as well as the smoked salmon eggs benedict with home fries. Shoutout to the bathroom having background music that teaches you different foreign languages.
google avatar

Jaimie D.

Yelp
This French inspired cafe/restaurant was adorable! Lots of character and charm, from the ceiling tile detail, wall art to the fresh cut flowers on each table, this is definitely a charming little breakfast stop. Located in the corner, they offer indoor seating and have large windows over looking both streets, ideal for people watching. They have a coffee bar and full service bar, we indulged in both and both were wonderful! Cocktails and coffee our brunch selections were delicious, cooked to perfection. I gave a 4 out of 5 ONLY because I'm sensitive to smells and there was a strange egg smell in the restaurant. If you're sensitive to smells, just be aware. It wasn't enough to make us leave but noticeable. I'd go back!
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
Great end to our weekend in Nashville! Our breakfast was cooked perfectly to order and our service was exceptional. Our food came out quickly and to our exact specifications. It's a cute place. Not as large as the Atlanta one, but the quality is definitely there.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
This was an unexpected yes beyond amazing find when we did a search for "coffee" in Nashville. The website looked great so we stopped in and were blown away by the decor and ambiance. Such a pleasant atmosphere and bustling busy corner. We were seated by the window and got to enjoy amazing coffee, brunch, and dessert. The staff was fantastic, we were not rushed and got to enjoy an amazing time. We will come back for sure! See our meal selection and photos below!

Yelp
Food is fine if you want breakfast for dinner. After showing the manager multiple facebook posts from my condominium building group saying specifically that Cafe Intermezzo gives the local discount he told me he is "not trying to argue with me, has never heard of the Encore and they have never given that discount ever." It was the gaslighting for me since they most certainly have. He must had not be hired yet when they did. The other restaurants around the area give the discount or if they don't they are so sympathetic and don't have me walking out feeling like i never want to step foot in there again. Even if you're not a local this management will not be taking care of you. This restaurant lacks customer service. Server with heart shaped glasses was nice though, she should be manager instead.

Yelp
I went for the desserts, I tried the tres leches and a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. The tres leches was ok and the cheesecake was better. Too expensive for what was served.
